Have a great trip Amesford. It sounds as though you are well prepared.

I don't mind cleaning the sides..... it's the roof that's an absolute pain. The trouble with a dirty roof is that it does nothing to keep the sides clean..... I've been threatening to pay someone to do the roof, but never seem to get around to it!!
I've booked in a tyre change for next week.. our tyres are 5-6 years old, and although they still look good, you can't really risk it as a caravan spends most of its life stationary - on the tyre. Some seem to recommend changing at 5 years, others say 7, so I reckon it's time!

Had an interesting day. We needed a bowl for MiLs microwaved porridge in the mornings and as there isn't a suitable one in the cottage we drove to Bedale to see what we could find. A busy, bustling market town. First time we've been and impressed. There is a "Home and House" shop on the main street and we found a suitable bowl. Plenty of other independent shops in town. Great to see and most of them full.
Home for lunch as we had a couple of showers and then off to Jevaulx Abbey for a stroll, except the grounds were closed due to a wedding taking place there. So plan B. Off to see Middleham castle where the Richard the Third Society were celebrating his enthrolment (or usurping depending on your point of view) to the crown back in 1483. There were various people from the "re-enacting society" doing all sorts in the castle grounds, which provided a great entertainment for MiL. She absolutely loved seeing a rescued Red Kite sitting on the handlers gauntlet, close up. One of her favourite birds. So all in all a satisfactory outcome to the afternoon.
Sunny but quite breezy at the moment.
ps the bed was fine!

That’s a typical sign board for Yorkshire🤣 Coffee with all the pretentiousness removed.
Love Middleham Castle, such a history. I like the statue there of Dick III. Did you catch a glimpse of any of the racehorses, there are almost as many horses as humans in Middleham? I used to get up early when we stayed at Leyburn, off to watch them up on the gallops above the village. Bedale, as you say is very nice. Hope you get to see Jervaulx, it is interesting, and the cafe is nice. Make sure you take a look at the adjacent CL, it’s lovely if the rally field isn’t in use.
MH cleaning day for me. I do inside, OH does outside. If it can be fitted in between bike rides.🤣
This is my favourite Yorkshire sign, you see them, with a few different versions all over.🤣

Indeed, Ttda, I first noticed a very similar sign when I stayed at Englethwaite Hall Club Site. Coming back down from Scotland it was wonderful to see that only the second and third states were in use
I seem to recall there was a 'Plant Pot' man on guard duty in those days !!0 -
It's the GP at Silverstone this weekend so lots of helicopters flying over today, probably even more tomorrow, but hopefully will catch the Red Arrow's on route there tomorrow.
Youngest son has been out on his bike today, sent me a photo of him reaching the Cat & fiddle, said he enjoyed the ride down better! 🤣
Got the bbq out today, OH has had the chicken marinating in his special marinade all day, hopefully the rain will stay away.
Loved the sign WN, I'm with your MIL, Red Kites are beautiful birds, we get to see them regularly round here but not that close up.

WN we liked Bedale having ended up there by mistake last year.
No chance of a bbq here Helen torrential rain on and off all day, quite chilly too but next week looks a lot warmer. We now have two terriers staying plus our own little dog, quite a while since we've had three in the house and it's like taking spaghetti out for a walk, tangled leads! 🐕🐕🐕

Did he climb up from Macclesfield or Buxton Helen? Steeper climb from Macc side. Good effort though whichever way.

Our house is right under the flight path of those helicopters going to Silverstone. Mind you since the dual carriageway was built around Silverstone the numbers have decreased considerably. A previous next door neighbour and her husband used to go away for the Silverstone Weekend as she couldn't stand the noise!!!!

Hello, hello is any body out there ??
Right joke time over

As of now I'm just getting myself ready for a trip to Elvaston Castle Steam Rally tomorrow, all things being equal and the weather being fine even if not sunny. Not been to Elvaston, just south of Derby, for many a long year so it's going to be at least a 'reminder', if not a Learning Experience. Camera dusted, batteries fully charged, masks sterilised, fingers crossed ~~ what more can a fellow do I ask myself
Suggestions before the Ducato starts to morrow at 9.00 am please

B
P.S. David, at least you won't find 20 ton steam ploughing engines coming past at 20,000 feet.

We missed you in Middleham Wherenext. Perhaps we need Club Together badges!?? Loved all the dressing up, unfortunately we didn’t get to stay very long as OH was keen to get off to a special photographic location before the light changed. We were staying in a lovely CL overlooking Middleham, on our way home now. Various family commitments coming up now so that’s us done until September and Scotland, fuel prices permitting!

Son and half his family at our caravan today, his eldest two abroad with their friends. Said he was going to have a relaxing weekend there as his work has been busy recently. However, they were at a Broadway yesterday and he then texted to say Stratford and Bourton on Water today. Don’t think he can sit still for long. I sent back tips on where to eat and drink in both places when it’s busy. He has just suggested I apply for a job as local travel agent there. More gardening for me today but not very inspiring as cloudy and not warm here.

Rain held off for the bbq, but it wasn't very warm.🙁
Hoping it warms up by next weekend we're in Somerset, any tips for places to visit very welcome 😉

On site with glorious hot sunshine after a very wet crossing over the A66. Weather looks promising (ie little rain) over the next few days so just planning which fells to do first.
Site is quite full on all types of pitches.
Everyone enjoy yourselves.

Shame we missed you Heddlo. Mind you it was a plan B. I'll have to put a photo up of MiL. Once seen.....

Great cycle ride from your son Helen. Good bit of climbing in that. Made me feel tired just thinking about it.
We all wanted to stretch our legs away from the crowds today so had a pleasant time walking a quiet section along the River Swale to the west of Richmond. Long enough for MiL anyway. I was sent on the longer loop and was happy with that. On the way back to the cottage we went the long route and stopped at Jervaulx Abbey to give them another chance. It's not far from the car park to the ruins so all happy with that. A few photos enclosed.
Might be Helmsley or Mount Grace tomorrow. Leave it up to the ladies to decide. I feel that a need for a walk around some shops for them coming on though.

We have a family meet up down in Cornwall next week. Both Mrs M's sisters and OHs and us, all in the same place at the same time! Doesn't happen very often, haven’t seen her younger sister since our nephew's wedding well before the pandemic - they have a new girlie dog, not sure what Ralph's going on make of her - think I'll have to have "the conversation" with him before they meet up! 🐶

It does depend on where about you are stopping and what you like doing, each to their own, but for us it’s Wells. Lovely little city, the cathedral, the Bishops Palace or just a wander around by the moat and the palace wall. Nice market there too if you pick the right day. Then a bit of retail therapy at Clark’s outlet village, but that’s just us.

You are on OH's 'home turf' WN. We love Jervaulx Abbey. Such a lovely place. Is the ice cream place near there still open? Both Helmsley and Mount Grace are lovely but I think I would go for Mount Grace if the weather is good. It was a Carthusian Monastery where each of the monks lived separately and were only allowed to speak to each other once a year. Goodness know what they did if next doors drains blocked and you had another 6 months to wait before you could tell him that they were flooding your cell!! Are you going up to Tan Hill pub while you are staying there? We can never go to that area without paying it a visit.
It has been a busy week here since getting back from holiday. The garden looked as though we had been away for a month or more so a lot to do out there. It is suffering badly from lack of water. I have had to clear quite a few of my pots as stuff was just dead or dying. We have had a lot of heavy black clouds over the past few days but only a passing shower of rain.
OH has not been feeling too good since he had covid so I am wondering whether he has long covid. Complete lack of energy, loss of appetite, difficulty walking because everything aches. I am trying to get him to speak to the doctor. Mind you that is easier said than done.

Hi Millie .
Making decisions about which one to choose is way above my pay grade. I just give them options!
I'll pass on your comments. Those monks couldn't have come over all tongue tied on their special day could they?Don't think we'll get to Tan Hill. Running out of time already. Just have to come back!
And yes, Brymor ice cream still going. Stopped whilst driving through Bellerby as there was a Brymor van selling ice cream on the village green as they had an open garden day. Had time to admire a couple of gardens, thinking of Brue, before the ice cream was finished. Got back in the car and the heavens opened.

LookA like everyone has been having a good weekend. We’ve been busy here at home
clearing out the sheds over the weekend so a couple of runs to the local tip will be on the agenda during the week. Got the caravan cleaned today even did the roof which actually wasn’t that dirty so didn’t take too long caravan sitting all nice and shined ready for the off at the end of the week almost 3 weeks away we can’t wait it seems like ages since we were last away in the van but it’s only been 4 weeks.
Corner - Troutbeck one of our faves
Helen - We spent three weeks in Somerset last summer at the clubs site Hurn Lane near Western. There was plenty to do in the area Weston was nice for a walk around and a bit further afield we visited the Haynes Motor museum which was brilliant we spent the whole day there a great collection of cars. Wookey Hole caves was a good day out too you can explore the caves which was very interesting and the have a nice cafe area too.

Looks like we're in for a warm spell so H&T should be in for a nice time in sunny Somerset, lots to see here but I'm biased. Our local cider (and brandy) place at Burrow Hill is worth seeing and it's in amongst some nice villages too. That said we're off to Devon again very soon!
Trying to get breaks in before the main holiday rush.Hope Mr H is OK Millie and can be persuaded to check things out.
Enjoy your holiday Francis and others who are ready for the "off" too.

Just had an email from my cousin whose husband was recently diagnosed as having long covid. She said that it's quite debilitating. Has the symptoms as your OH Millie. Try your best to get him to talk to his doctor. Hope he recovers soon though.

Two castles visited over this weekend, each vastly different from the other. Can anyone identify them?
