Yesterday was a memorable one for our family. While most of us were beavering away preparing for our Farm Tour day, our son was down in Norfolk. He's back sometime today - along with a very prestigious prize. The Silver lapwing Award.
quote - About the FWAG Silver Lapwing Award
To win this prestigious and longstanding award, a farm has to demonstrate a real commitment to species and habitat conservation and be able to show how they integrate their environmental management in their overall farm business. Understanding and conserving historic aspects of the farm is also important. In addition, consideration is given to the farm’s approach to conserving natural resources; this includes good soil management, the protection of water quality and efficient use of water and energy. These are all areas that the judges consider on their tour of the competition finalists.

Wow! As some of you may remember I've been having a few issues with renewing my passport.
Today I'm happy to say I received an email to say it has been printed.
This is amazing as on Monday evening I received an email to say the photo I submitted online was not acceptable. Yesterday (Tuesday) I went to Timpsons and paid £11.99 for a photo to be taken, checked ( they do this via the online passport checker) printed and received the online code to submit to the passport office. Once home we did that and within a very short time got an email to say photo accepted. This morning not 24hrs later a new email saying passport printed and waiting to be sent, details to follow.
My advice to anyone who has to renew a passport, save yourself the hassle of trying to do a photo at home and get one done by a passport approved person/booth. Once you have the code they give you it means the photo has been approved and the application is very speedy. Wish I had known this before applying for ours. OH not heard anything about his but had photos done yesterday just incase his is not accepted.

Well done to the Goldies! Hope the farm visits also went well and they liked the fresh paint too...

Silage cutting going on round here at a great speed hope you get yours done and the weather holds.
Better news about your passport TG.
Nice to see the photos of castles and mountains hope the holidays are going well.
OH out fishing twice this week so it's quiet here, we have one extra dog at the moment, he goes home tonight. Our daughter had days owing to her from work so she's visiting relatives in Cornwall with the new terrier.
Good that you managed the Humber Bridge TDA. Like Redkite we took a Canadian cousin over the Bristol Suspension Bridge in the car and she kept her eyes closed...didn't blame her, it is vertigo inducing!

Congratulations from us as well Goldie.
TG glad all sorted with passport photos OH did his in January he had already got a booth one from our residency card so being ex IT scanned it and resized it and it was accepted and it was posted to here with extra postage but worth it to get done my is due early 2024 but as we hope to get to UK in September next year will have to do it earlier as it has got the extra 6 months on it so OH just said he will do the same for me.
Got a small amount of ironing to do and have just sorted a big cupboard in our hall and a few more things for the boot sale in August.
A bit hazy at present so a bit cooler.

Good news about your passport photo TG and very good advice for the future. Last time I had my photo taken at a small independent chemist in town who hopefully now offer the code as well. I didn't realise that Timpsons did passport photos that is worth remembering as mine is due for renewal in about 2 years. I am not sure that we will go abroad in future but we like to have our passports up to date as youngest son and family live in N Ireland and we are never sure what will happen there in the future!
Well done to Goldie and family, especially your son.
I love all the photos of the mountains and castles but I am not sure whether I will guess any of nellie's as I am not very familiar with Welsh castles. Still love the photos though.
A bit of a quieter week at home this week as we have caught up with our post holiday jobs (I think) but it is all go at the Cathedral as the dinosaurs are arriving and being set up this week. The exhibition opens a week on Monday and runs until 3 September if anyone is in the area and is interested. There has been such a lot of work gone into this exhibition that I hope it is successful for the Cathedral. Nene Park have started doing some wildlife boat trips on the lakes and the river in a new electric boat. It is called Wyndham after the marvellous man who masterminded the whole idea of Nene Park and how it should be run (definitely NOT by the local council by by a Trust thank goodness). We have just booked to go on one of the trips on Saturday. We would have taken some of the grand-children a few years ago but teenagers don't do that kind of thing apparently!

Had a few problems with internet yesterday so 2 days of photos.
Yesterday we went to Bolton Castle, which we all enjoyed, particularly the bird of prey flying display. Then onto Aysgarth Falls for a stroll of the legs.
Today we went to Mount Grace Priory. A fascinating insight into Cathusian life. The garden and house were also interesting as the garden was done by Chris Beardshaw.
All in all a good couple of days which seemed to go down well with the powers that be.
Hope you enjoy your trip Millie.
And many congratulations to Goldies' "team". What a lovely trophy.

I'm hoping it won't need polishing. It won't be down the fields when our visitors arrive (nor by the pond where we'll be serving lunch), but safe in the house on top of the piano.
Our pond.

Huge Congratulations Goldie, glad to hear the award will have pride of place. Lovely pond too.
Getting everything sorted at work ready for my week off, almost there!
Caravan packing almost done, just the food to go in. Have been " "googling" the area in Somerset and checking out CT suggestions, think we will have plenty to do.🙂
Millie will make sure I get some photos of Wells cathedral, they allow dogs in too, big bonus! 🐕🐕
Wherenext sounds like you are enjoying your break, lovely photos, we only had a short visit to that area a couple of years ago, so must get back sometime soon.
Hope all other trips going well.

WN You ticked a few of our favourite places there. I hope you weren't strolling your legs in Aysgarth falls!! Reeth in Swaledale is OH's very favourite place, He had relatives who lived there. One of them owned The Burgoyne Hotel many years ago before it became the rather upmarket place that it is today. I took him there for the weekend for his 60th birthday. Lovely place for a treat.
Helen Have a lovely holiday in Somerset. Just for the record Peterborough Cathedral now also welcomes dogs

Be sure not to miss the stairs up to the Chapter House in the cathedral Helen, it’s an amazing space and used in many films, I think, also the Chapter House itself, which has a lovely feeling. Also the clock in the cathedral, watch the knights fall. Our son watched the film Hot Fuzz and then followed the trail around Wells. We were lucky enough to be on the market place the day the market scene was filmed. Love Wells, hope that you enjoy it.

I spent 2 hours making sweet potato and corned beef pasties yesterday. As I loaded them into the freezer I suddenly remembered that I hadn’t added the mango chutney to the fillings. We haven’t tried them yet but I really hope that OH is so forgiving when he tastes them.

As predicted a very wettish day but a good day spent in Ambleside. Weather looks good from now on so it's back to work tomorrow!
If this is you btw - just wow!

Not a castle today but another historical monument. Anyone know where this is located and it's significance?
Congratulations to your whole family, Goldie. A great achievement by all concerned. Well done.

Contractors are replacing the lamp posts in our road ,but the contractors have said none are fitted with EV charging points? as they think because the underground cables are much to old to cope
They say the only county in East Anglia that are doing so is Suffolk in some areas

Hope you get all done DSB with caravan. Just gave ours a quick wipe around to hot for much else but we want to put the cover tomorrow as next week here is going to be very hot upto 40C and it is a bit exposed on three sides so that will be fun in the morning will have to get OH up early ha ha.
As covid cases are going up here 200,000 on the 5th July we have booked for our second booster trying to find more locally not easy so just going over into next department about 20 minutes from here on Monday 18th July just after mid-day so the local nurses must be doing covid jabs in a rota.
They are talking about mask wearing again in Nice and public transport but we can see they will tighten up again here as the mad dash from the north will start tomorrow and we have a lot of holiday homes in the main part of the village, have had a chat with a friend this morning as were all going to gourmande food evening in the village a week on Saturday but we both decided not a good idea due to a lot of folk about although mostly outside there will be some covered areas and the heat will be too much possibly 40C+ day not keen of sitting in that sort of heat with no shade, she went to the hospital yesterday and her wrist has healed well so no more visits and 3 more to the local physio who actually lives in our village and is English, but she has been doing a lot of swimming and now can drive again which her OH will be pleased about.
Stay safe folks.
Great to see all your photos.

Woke to a lovely sunny day so decided it has to be the garden again, front one this time. Enlisted OHs help with one of the bushes that needed a hair cut, while I tackled the Holly. All done now just the clearing up to be done then OH can get it away to the skip.
I now have a navy blue passport 😊 couldn't believe it when it came this morning. Can't complain about the time it took once they were happy with the photo, 2 days from up loading photo to Gov. site to receiving passport wow. OHs photo was also rejected but we thought it would be since my first one was. No problem as he had one taken at the same time I did on Tuesday. Within minutes of him getting the email to say the first photo was rejected he up loaded the new one. It was approved within minutes and told passport would be printed shortly and he would be informed when ready to post. Think he may get it Fri/Sat if Peterborough follow the same timings as Bootle.
Right lunch over time to go and tidy up outside.

Tyres all replaced and managed to clean the front and back of the 'van. The sides looked quite clean so I did worry about them - it's not been too long ago since I did them anyway.
I noticed the Offside motor mover plastic cover has disappeared - either it came off in transit, or someone may have taken it!!! New covers order from Truma/ Powrtouch

A day out for us today, we went to NT Knightshayes. Although it isn’t that far from us for some reason we haven’t visited it for about 30 years. It was cloudy and windy when we left home but it brightened up into a hot day. We found a shady spot to sit and watched some little ones running up and down a slope, I really want to know where they get all their energy from and exactly where all mine went to! We had a lovely day just wandering around.
I was about to drive home when OH said that he would, thank goodness he did. Going along the link road when a fully grown hind dashed across two empty lanes heading straight for our car, OH swerved inwards and she ran backwards along the side of the car, ran behind it and jumped the fence into a field. The van behind slammed his brakes on and just missed her also. Scared me, such a close shave. So glad the lorry behind us, which had been following us much too closely for a while, had just turned off or I’m sure he would have hit her. I do find that some lorries like to tailgate.
Meeting a friend and ex work colleague for coffee tomorrow, we’ll even after being retired for 10 years I still like to hear the gossip.

Quiet last day here. Couldn't do a great deal as too sunny for MiL to be out and about for too long. We even abandoned the idea of a meal at lunch as none of us fancied an Italian meal. Settled on a cake and a good old cup of tea from a lovely little cafe (10 seats maximum but all home made cakes including a GF one for me).
Had a shady riverside walk back to the car and home to rest. Off tomorrow after a smashing week. It's MiLs holiday and she has declared it a success so all is well.
Glad that Millie has joined us, at least in spirit, on our journeys this week.

Off to Raby castle in the morning and lunch at a hotel/pub that we met Tammy and her OH in 2 years ago when we were all in the area. Another week another holiday.
Had to make an appointment for when we get back as an arm off my glasses broke when they fell off the table. Good job OH carries a spare set or two for me.
That was lucky DEBSC. I remember following a car through Aviemore when a deer ran out straight in front of that car. Hit it, albeit slowly. Deer got up and ran away. American tourist a bit shook up but more worried about his excess for damage to the car. I was more worried about the deer but it genuinely seemed OK.

We are home after another great short break. Really nice CL, some great things to do and see, and some really great weather. Came back over the Humber Bridge, then round to visit Howden Minster and wend our way home the scenic way.
