Just enjoyed catching up and reading about the trips away, not sure I could cope with the heat some have been experiencing. undecided

OH's foot is slowly improving with the help of the tablets and ice packs. Just hoping it's better by the time we go on holiday in July.

Not been very busy at work this week, was going through some fuel invoices today the costs for filling up the lorries are frightening now!

It’s the second Yorkshire Motorsport weekend starting today. This is a new event for these parts with a hill climb time trial thingy and classic car shows. Last year residents of the three villages most affected were up in arms because the organisers closed the roads for three days, there were even complaints to the local MP.

So what did they do this year? They waved a big two fingers at us and closed the bl**dy  roads for eight days. Out of interest I had a look at their website. There are some questionable claims on there. For instance the site of the man events is said to be in the heart of West Yorkshire, that’s bunkum we’re nowhere near that, you only need to go about five miles and you can stand in three counties ( if you’ve got three legs) at Holme Moss your right next door to Derbyshire and Cheshire.

The much vaunted hill climb is advertised as being nearly a mile. It’s nowhere near that and it’s not much of a hill, it’s on one of our regular walks.

Next weekend the dressing up boxes come out for the war time weekend, that’s not something I should get started on 🤬

    Anyhoo have a nice weekend

Quite understand your complaints, Roger !!  Too many "organisers" assume all public roads are "Their" roads without asking those good folks who are paying rates etc for upkeep.

As a result I do not suppose you can do a lot right now, but do not stop warning the world of the problems you are getting.

Wind up your M.P.s, Town & County Councillors, threaten Rate Strikes etc etc  --  send them  acidic Christmas cards in due season --  whatever you do JUST DONT LET IT GO !!

I like my steam rallies, as most on here know. They are  normally held on private land / estates but they usually work very hard to involve & include local people, shops, organisations and so on ~~  it's much more fun if everybody is smiling --  if you can get that  message across then both sides could benefit wink

Well it was looking positively continental in Exmouth this morning but not much sun. Now the wind is rattling the awning straps and looking at the forecast it looks like 40mph will mean we'll have to take everything in tomorrow...frown One of those unpredictable holidays.

Suffering from a bad cold myself I now hear youngest grandson has Covid whilst his father does recordings at Glastonbury and nearby Frome. Wondering if it will be a Glastonbury super spreader?! undecided At least we're not quite packed in here as they are there...OH had to search for a bag of homegrown lettuce I'd hung up outside, the wind whipped it away. smile🪐

Welcome back David, daylight robbery what they are asking for sites now. Going to look out CLs for our journey down to the tunnel later in the year.

SteveL, when we were at the site near Blois we had a quick storm. It looked to be passing us by we could see it clearly like a line drawn in the sky. Then all of a sudden it turned and came straight at us. We managed to get the chairs and table folded up and under the van. Wasn't concerned about the canopy as we knew it was tied down well. Famous last words, the rain was horrendous and pooled around one of the legs, thats OK says OH the tiedowns are in good and firm. Then the pooling got bigger, we had our own pond. The ground on arrival was rock solid but with the rain it turned to mush it was sandy soil. We watched as one of the tie down pegs started to work loose. OH went out to drive it back in but a waste of time the ground just wouldn't hold while it was so wet. He ended up standing under the canopy for over 30 mins holding onto the leg and roof arm. No point in trying to put it away in the wind, we had already seen one damaged trying that on the islands. Once the storm passed we were able to get it fixed back in a bit further out where the ground was still firm. Being so sandy it drain very quickly, within an hour all gone and sun back out as if it never happened. No hail thankfully, I've seen the damage that can do.  Hope you escape the storm RK mentioned, enjoy your time there.

Busy day today at the gKids school, last day of the summer term means big parade with pipes and drums of the school band. Had a great day, gKids did very well in the warm conditions. They get up at 05.30 on Grand day, special breakfast, then lots to do around the school before guests and family arrive. Both of them got awards for things they have been doing. Granddaughter got her Bronze DOE. Grandson got one for a community project he's been involved with.

Long day for them, 2 very tired and hungry teenagers, 2 tired parents who drove up from Wiltshire yesterday evening. Great day had by all. Back home now feet up having a cuppa.

    Have a good weekend everyone.

😁 Poor you. You won’t probably have been mourning the demise of the Tour De Yorkshire I am guessing, unlike thousands of others who loved it. Early warning for you though……..The Tour of Britain is coming back to Yorkshire this September. The trials of living in God’s Own County🤣 At least the road closures won’t last too long though. Get that old bike back out and paint it up….the festival is still on👍

Last holiday photo from me you will be glad to hear! This lovely little place in Cromer used to be called The Jetty Coffee bar back in the day and my best friend and I spent many a happy hour in there when we were teenagers many moons ago. The guy running it now is trying to source a juke box as quite a few of us remember there being one.

We have had 2 emails in the last few days to tell us that friends have died. Sad times.

Well done to your grandchildren TG. It sounds as though you have all had a great day.

Brue  reading about your flying lettuce, reminded me of loosing our bbq cover over the jubilee weekend in the peak district, the wind must have got under it, OH found it at the bottom of the next field 😀 Enjoy your few days.

Well done to your Grandchildren Tammy,  start of the holidays already.

MIillie hope you have had  lovely holiday,  enjoyed the photos,  youngest son emailed me their holiday photo album from their holiday in America,  it took me a while to look through them all. 🙂

Off to MK to see our Grand-daughter tomorrow, she had her 16 week jabs today, apparently she needs Nana cuddles. 🥰

We are back home and unpacked after four lovely days away. Another Peak District Cycle Trail ticked off my list, this time the High Peak Trail. We set off from Splash Farm CL at Cromford, and that meant tackling the dreaded 1:8 gradient kilometre and a half long incline, followed by another similar two miles in. I cooked my battery totally on the first incline, so did the rest of the ride without power, admittedly had to push 30 kilos of bike up the second incline, but after a bit of gasping at the top, we really enjoyed the rest of the trail ride, even though it was very very warm. Riding back down the inclines was awful for me, very steep and my worst nightmare ….gravel. But a brilliant day out. I volunteered for pooch watching and walking duties next day, while OH went out alone on bike and did it all again🤣 Great Site, lovely weather and scenery. Had a chat with a couple of expats on CL. They had come across from Spain to get away from the searing heatwave where they now live, having a holiday touring round and visiting relatives.

I know how you feel about the coffee bar Millie. There is a little cafe at Moreton in Marsh, we often go there now as OH likes their milkshakes, (and their cakes if he’s honest) As young teenagers my cousin and I used to cycle there for a cola and just to hang out for a while. Sometimes, sitting there, I can still imagine the 60s furniture, the worn lino on the floor and the juke box in the corner, plus the two young girls and some of the local lads. Life was so much simpler in those days.

🤣🤣🤣 Actually, True Grit describes the rest of my none powered ride. OH was astonished how well I coped, and in that time honoured cycling tradition, if the going does get too tough, you can actually climb off and walk. It was pushing a heavy ebike up the incline that had me gasping, not the cycling🤣 OH is on the case, replacing the bit that cooked itself. Too hot to touch at the time, so well cream crackered😁

Well done TDA you are braver than me I hate hills and gravel. 👏

Thanks Millie & H&T, it was a good day.

Today I am ironing, I've been putting it off for a week but bit the bullet today 2 hours so far and that's only half of it.

This morning we spent a couple of hours trying to do our passport photos. We must have taken 30 photos before we got 1 each that was 'fair' if it wasn't the right background, it was a shadow on it, reflection on glasses, can't distinguish between subject and background 😲 OH had a red polo top on and the background was plain white. What a flipping palaver, tried taking them outside against the white wall of the caravan. Background to shiny 🤪 eventually we got sufficient light coming into the dining room as the sun came round. Then it was shadows 😩 finally we got a couple of shots that was OK. All paperwork now done and in envelopes waiting to be posted on Monday, post office closed by the time we had got everything completed. We have 13 weeks until we go away again, here's hoping it's a lucky 13. Strangely my passport is going to Liverpool while OHs is going to Peterborough, why not Glasgow. The system generates where to send them you don't seem to have a choice.

OH is down the Men's Shed trying to sort out the 3D printer, it's been used by others over the last 30 mths but no one has cleaned it or maintained it. One of the nozzles has become clogged up and place you put the filament in is also clogged. They have a big order on to make 55 sets of brackets so need it to work.

Of out to Arbroath tonight to a party for one of OHs friend and former colleague. Its his 60th birthday. I've elected to drive back rather than stay over in a B&B, I don't sleep well in these places so it's a waste of money.

Right break over back to work, more ironing 😩

    TG

We had a lot of problems with passport photos, the one that came up best on the website was the one I thought was the worst!!! I did persist with the two I thought were correct despite the online filter suggesting they would not be OK. I don't know whether you went this far into the system but if you submit photos they suggest are unsuitable they do give you the option of telling them why you think they are suitable. Being a bit of a photographer I explained why I thought they were suitable which they seem to accept, fortunately. Did it all online and got the new ones back in about three weeks. We also had to send the old passports back to two different addresses.

Well first daughter's car which was her grandmother's has finally come to the end of it's working life, it's 19 years old (and 60000 miles) but while it's passed it's MOT (with about 10 advisories) it needs about £1000 worth of remedial plus a whole new exhaust (apparently there was enough pressure to push through the emissions to just pass?) and CAT which they didn't even price up as it would be 'silly money'.

Buying a car nowadays is so different! It's just not fun anymore. Firstly many showrooms are mostly empty and can only get cars in for November to January! We finally found a Hyundai dealer where we went to last year for my other daughter that had cars in or coming in.

Also the selling of add on insurances, gap, tyres, alloys...? They put them on the price and only take them off when requested which we did. They also tried to push very hard for HP/PCP as I assume they get a commission on that, she didn't need it or want it but they still tried as it would 'boost her credit rating'. If there was another car in another dealer we would have walked.

Anyway her car is now somewhere at sea, hopefully in a ship, but due in in the next two weeks so that's the main thing.

And the Saga carries on OH and I were supposed to have training on the transfer equipment today ,got there early to find no staff trained in the use of said equipment  as with it being Saturday the "qualified staff " had not been advised so had already allotted the slots to physio with other patients and the only one that could do it finished at 1200  Could I come in Monday morning? which is the day the equipment is being delivered to home

As the duty ward manager said communication is not a strong point with the NHS as if I had not yet noted thatsurprised

You couldn’t make it up could you JV, like a Brian Rix farce🤷‍♀️

Been hard at work this morning at Mum’s. Her neighbours have dug out the hedge, and replaced with some very decent fencing. It’s not my cup of tea, but of course a lot less work, and Mum didn’t mind. On the plus side, we are now putting in another border, which will give some colour and life to the fence. I have dug out a border, and as it’s very sunny, all day, it’s going to have climbing roses, clematis, and tall herbs such as Bronze and Green Fennel for height, underplanted with more herbs such as Thymes, Mint, etc… and Lavenders and Carnations. Lovely new project for the three of us to work on, Mum still loves her garden.

OH has sorted out my bike, all now working again. The controller was absolutely shot, but he had all sorts of spares, so hasn’t cost anything. It’s very stealth, being an MTB with add ons, rather than a purpose built ebike. I get a throttle to play with as well, should I need to zip home quickly.😁

Bright and breezy day today, finished the last of my ironing this morning too laughing

This afternoon was spent visiting grand daughter and her parent's.  She is now 4 months old and we really noticed how she's changed, lots of smiles and laughter.

Ttda, glad you enjoyed your few days away, we used Splash Farm after reading your review of a few years ago, lovely site.

JVB, hope all goes well and your OH can get back home soon.

Cornersteady, my little car is almost as old, but has done over 80,000m I'am really hoping it will keep going for a while yet.undecided I don't fancy the hassle of buying another one just yet! Glad your daughter managed to find one.

I am thinking about buying a new car to replace my 6 year old Kia Venga automatic. Had they still made them I would have had another Venga as the current one is the second one I have had. Its perfect in many ways as I need a car where the seat is high enough for me to sit on the seat and swing my legs round without having to lift them too much. Trouble is all the current Kia/Hyundai smaller models are are too low so I may have to go for a car which is larger than I actually need. Must be automatic. Not sure I am quite ready to make the jump to a full electric, although apart from the cost, I can't see many disadvantages except for the price.

Dealers will always try and sell add-ons, after all that is their job!  Sometimes you have to be careful before rejecting such offers as sometimes there are discounts for adding bits in although currently it seems to be a sellers market. I once read that Ford made most of their money from the finance deals they did when they sold cars and almost nothing from actually selling the car! Its a strange world!

Try the Hyundai Kona/Kia Stonic, David. Although it looks biggish, in reality, it’s only 85mm longer and 35mm wider than the ix20/Venga. It’s also easy to get in and out of. I’ve got the Kona EV but hybrid and petrol are available although I hear they’re stopping the petrol versions soon.

Last year when other daughter bought her i20 there was an advantage to taking out HP as she got £500 'off' the car price and she could pay off the full amount after 14 days and get an interest rebate of the rest of the time which she duly did. I worked out at the time that the finance company would make under £6 in interest in those two weeks. Yes at the moment very little haggling room if you want a car asap, wouldn't even throw in free mats!
