What are you all up to

Back to normal weather here, rainy and damp! We didn't overheat yesterday but it's humid.
Had extra visiting rescue terrier for the evening, she is settling in well but not quite used to things yet, particularly unfamiliar sounds. Handed both dogs back at midnight, their "parents" had been playing at Shepton Mallet. Today there are three music engagements but only for the trumpet player. Good to see things getting back to pre covid times, hoping we don't fall victim to another wave. As for masks we wear them if requested or if we feel the need.

Well, what a contrast to yesterday's baking hot temperatures. Slight rain overnight and then quite thick fog this morning and chilly although it's brightened up a bit now. The winds have started and it's forecast to get up to 40 mph later this afternoon. Just hope the awning pegs don't pull out - we're on a 'pea-gravel' hardstanding and the usual steel pegs aren't gripping at all.
Went to Beer this morning and was pleasantly surprised at how quiet it was especially after Lyme Regis the other day which was absolutely packed.
This site at Charmouth must be running at near 100% capacity - all the time we have been here, as soon as a pitch is vacated, it's filled again within an hour or so. Not surprising since it's beautifully kept although a bit out on a limb so it won't be high on our list of ones to return to.

Haven't looked in for a while to check what everyone's been up to, so hope everyone has been behaving!

We are currently on an actual club site, it's been a while.
arrived yesterday in the hot sunshine but today has been cloudy with some showers, have been rather lazy, but then that was the plan for this weekend. Not seen the clubs new 2 peg system before, but it seems to work well especially on the grass pitches.
Off now for a stroll with the dog, to see if anything else has changed since our last visit.

We were invaded by a swarm of chafer beatles last night, there were hundreds of them. We had no idea what they were and neither did the warden. Luckily our neighbours knew and said they were harmless. Rather a nuisance though as we had to shut all the windows in that heat. I had never heard of them before. A real change in the weather today. At least 10 degrees cooler and damp.
Have a lovely weekend H&T. I love the notice, especially the last comment 😁

If they were fairly large and brown they were Cockchafer beetles Milliehull we have them here it is their grubs which get me cross as they eat the roots of many plants they are awful so hope yours have gone away.
Well we topped 40.3C today just far too hot and the pool felt like a hot bath when you put your hand in it shame really but it is in full sun it was the only place it could go with other things in the garden although shadier in the morning, should be a bit cooler tomorrow.
Great notice H&T and the last one as I used to work in Woolworth's many years ago.

Going over Shap Fell on our recent trip we were hit by a huge insect swarm, when we got to the next site our van was covered in blood from them, we could hear them hitting the van from all directions on the motorway. We didn't discover what they were as they'd all met their end, quite sad really...

WN, re masks in France. To start with there was quite a few wearing them, we did likewise. As the weeks went on it became less and less, though on one of our stops, I forget which, we went to the supermarket and lots of folk were wearing them.
Lovely day here today, spent the day in the garden and helping OH take the trailer to the skip loaded with hedge trimmings and shrub pruning. The flowering current has had a severe cut back. It's been needing it for a few years but I was reluctant to do it as its a good privacy screen between us and next door. Since they have now put up a 6 ft fence I can cut back hard and get the shrubs to a more pleasing size. OH did the front hedge, its not ours it's theirs but we know they will never cut it.
Rain showers forecast for tomorrow but they usually get it wrong here so hoping to get another day in the garden, it's either that or if it does rain there is 3 baskets of ironing with my name on it 😩
Our elderly (96) next door neighbour was taken into hospital while we were away. At one point it didn't look good and her nephew advised us she will probably not return to her home. Today he came to her house and we got an update, she has had a pacemaker fitted and she is doing well. Turns out the reason she kept fainting and falling was her pulse kept dropping. Strangely she has enjoyed her stay in hospital, I think having folk around her instead of being on her own is pleasurable.
I ache all over but its a good ache. 🤣🤣🤣

Yes, they are the ones RK. It was quite frightening having so many of them flying about our heads but they disappeared after about half an hour. No sign of them last night but it was raining. We shall see what happens this evening. Luckily not our garden. We are on a clifftop campsite.
After a very wet evening and night the sun is now shining 🌞

What Tammy has mentioned, is what I have also noticed when visiting OH over the past six weeks in both hospitals ,many elderly patients have not had any or very few visitors, and are very glad to be able to be among others
OH has been given a discharge date of the 20th Monday ,she was given after I had left on Friday a letter about the discharge decisions that would effect both of us
Which last night when at home I went though in depth as quite a few of the decisions that basically say she would not be safe to carry out safely ,have not been tried while she has been a patient, and seem to go against the meeting I had with the occupational therapist manager ,who came to assess the house last week,
Why give it to OH and not me? did they wait until I left? and as there are not many staff on at weekends (it seems like the "Mary Celest" at times Saterday and Sundays
It would hopefully give me time to come off the ceiling before I get to talk tomorrow before OH is discharged?

Daughter and family coming for Sunday lunch. One of our granddaughters is working today so I got a message, please plate me up a dinner and send it home, she loves a roast. Trifle and Strawberry pavlova for afters, why oh why does my pavlova crack! Other granddaughter is usually unwell after, or during, eating dinner, so we have to, either sit someone either side of her, or have two extra chairs each side of her with cushions on for her to pass out onto, with her illness she doesn’t have any notice at all before she faints, so these are to stop her hurting herself. Was hoping to sit in the garden afterwards but with thick cloud and cold it’s not looking likely. Better get on with peeling those spuds.

It is indeed AB😢 Company, and some form of stimulation is as important as medicine. Haven’t spent hours around elderly patient Wards, it’s surprising the little friendships that quickly spring up between patients, eager just to pass the time of day with someone. I think I visited all those next to Dad as well as him.

+1, add to that older folk are from a caring & social time when it was sorely needed👍🏻

I have no words JVB, I really feel for you. It’s so tiring and frustrating trying to get something/anything sorted in a sensible way! Your story has taken me back to when my sister and I were trying to sort something similar for our late Mum. My sister got the brunt of it as she lived much closer to Mum and some days she was in tears as she, and I, knew Mum couldn’t manage alone at home but no care package was available and fighting for it seemed impossible but we managed to get some very minimal help which wasn’t nearly adequate and again my sister ended up doing nearly everything. Looking after your parents is something we expect and were quite prepared to do but the timing, for both of us, was impossible. Sadly Mum ended up back in hospital and sadly died soon after. I do hope you have the strength and fortitude to get something sorted and get your life back. BTW all our problems with our Mum were 8 years ago so I sure things must have got worse since then. Good luck and take care.

Trust me heddlo, things are a lot, lot worse. My Sis and I took the decision to look after Dad, and now Mum at home ourselves. We did try some private carers, mainly just in case one of us was ill or injured. That one hour a week, just to get on the books cost us a fortune, and whilst the carers themselves were very nice, punctual and great with Dad, it wasn’t worth the money, as they are so restricted in what they can do. The carers are paid a pittance from that hourly rate, which made my blood boil frankly.
Now, we do it all. A huge commitment for both of us, and of course my OH. But Mum still has a brilliant quality of life, despite dementia, goes out almost every day, enjoys being in her own surroundings, with her own possessions around her. She has only ever been to hospital once since we have been looking after her, that was after a trip up visiting a church where she clunked her head on a pew. More to reassure us than her, we left after triage as the wait was another four hours. Nurses said she was fine, so we took her home. COVID has made things doubly hard, as she is vulnerable at 93, and my OH is shielding still. But we had three holidays away together last year, and it was fantastic seeing her enjoy the beach, getting around some fabulous gardens. We supervise her meds, her quality of food, her exercise, etc…..keep her entertained. Huge, huge commitment, and I don’t mind admitting that at times we all get extremely fed up. You learn to make the most of every hour, every day off. But our time will come. 🤞

Not everyone is in a position to be able to do it, but we are, so we do.
Hoping to get away this week, just for three nights midweek. Cycling, walking, chilling. Peak District is calling, see if I can fall off on the Tissington Trail this time🤣

I think one of the board of. The North and East Herts NHS community trust regretted the visit he made today ,as he asked if there was anything we were not happy with, in the way the trust was operating

I shall be very interested with what the outcome is, when I visit tomorrow

Good luck for tomorrow JV, hope things work out safely for you and your good lady.
Nice afternoon here with Mum, she was on form, enjoyed her Sunday dinner. OH has serviced our bikes, the first aid kit is stocked up, the food is sorted, the dog has packed his favourite toy (a squeaky walrus, I kid you not, named Wally of course🤣)

Had a great long weekend at the clubs Thetford Forest site. Mrs One was at a cub camp so I travel alone. Amongst the many highlights was son coming up to stay with me after we went to the Keane gig at High Lodge in the Forest. They were brilliant and there loyal fans seemed to know the words to the songs. A joy to be able to a live show again. Rest of the weekend birdwatching, and that didn’t disappoint.
all being well it’s off to Trimmingham tomorrow to see the Bee eaters, beats washing the van

Hope you see the Bee Eaters Oneputt, they are colourful birds, quite special to see them.
We're recovering from our open garden event, about 90 visitors, quite a bit of rain and a lot of cream teas. By the way the helpers, setting out the teas, put the cream on first, that was a shock to the system but no-one complained!

Nice sunny day with a pleasant breeze, busy morning sorting out all the things we needed for the event, taking down a gazebo etc.
We can now go away, hooray!

Sounds like a good w/end Oneputt and hope you see the Bee eaters. Glad all went well brue time to recover.
A much cooler today put washing out in clear blue skies and half an hour later in came the rolling clouds what a change but did manage a bit of gardening and later did manage a dip in the pool hooray yesterday we could have cooked the vegetables in it just too hot ha ha now got a better set of pool ladders with a small platform at the top much easier for me to get in although OH has to hold onto the ladder for me as I just wobble about and I am the same with a bike hence not riding anymore.
Hope you can sort things out with your OH JVB and hopefully she is back home very trying time for you with the hospitals etc.
Looks like a stormy week for us here at least I will not need to water the garden as things are drying out even the grass going brown now.

Another lovely sunny day here in the North, still breezy but we are used to that, at least the washing gets a good blow.
Day spent in the garden again, another big bush bit the dust. Didn't remove it just cut it right down, needed it, 2 more got a hair cut. Then crawl around under other bushes to gather up all the leaves we couldn't reach before. Another trailer load to the skip, really loaded as its 7 miles each way so an expensive task these days.
Our elderly neighbour had a visit home today with the occupational health team and her nephew. They were assessing her to see if/when she can come home. I popped in to say hello to her and she got quite emotional. Jumped up and walked into the kitchen to see me before the team could assist her, think she past that test😁 we had a bit of a leg pull about her now running on batteries(pacemaker) she is a tough lady. If they can put a care package together for her she may be home by the weekend.
Brue, glad your garden open day went well, where are you heading off to this time.

Glad you open garden event went well Brue, and others have enjoyed their weekend. Hope you get to see the Bee Eaters Oneputt.
We arrived home this morning after spending a lazy weekend at Stamford or Top Lodge site as I still think of it. Caravan partly emptied will finished sorting it out over the week.
Had to drop OH off at A&E to get his foot xrayed, luckily he hasn't broken anything, just some inflamed tissue apparently. Came home with some strong pain killers

JVB hope things start to improve for you and your other half.

Gardening at Mums this morning for me, afternoon spent looking at plants, roses to go into newly made bed. OH had got on with MH packing. Sorted out to stay at one of our fairly local favourite CLs…….Splash Farm👍 Great price, great location. Two others we thought of didn’t have all the dates we needed, but the weather is lovely up here, and folks are out and about in droves in Peak District.
Glad your open weekend went well Brue, if a little damp.
Bee Eaters must be a spectacular sight OP👍
TG, hope your neighbour does ok and gets the care package she needs, you as well JV.

Always liked the Thetford Forest Site, Oneputt. They introduced me to Arla's Cravendale milk, then to the blooming little muntjac deer racing round behind the caravans ~~ little perishers were worse than any junior school away day
. They also have a military celebration from the Tank Memorial up the run-in past the club site entrance complete with music, food and Military Dress for many.0 -
Hospital visit was very interesting? , and h highlighted the dire straits that many parts of the NHs and private sector are in with staff. shortages,
The rehab hospitality OH is in is one of three in Hertfordshire and although short of staff, had to "lend" several staff to the other units to maintain minimum staffing levels at all three
Which again meant very little rehab again for any patients at any unit it seems 22 patients at OHs unit including a stroke ward,
No release date for OH as unable as yet to get a care package , , even though I said if we had the equipment it would be manageable without, they are insisting it would not be safe.,, although they will not come to the house with OH and me to see if would work ?
So the county equipment service will come a date to be arranged, with a hospital bed and other equipment the occupational therapist say OH and I need?,, and will set up downstairs living for OH,
Did you know if upstairs living is installed, the local fire service have to be advised?
Ps two staff did thank me for highlighting the inadequacy of the care the rehab patiants were getting to the board member who visited on Sunday as they Could/would not be able to?
