What are you all up to

Yes we do remember meeting up Moulsey, although we had forgotten the name of the garden! You did have Harry with you, gorgeous old chap. OH has told me it was 3rd May 2018 (no, haven’t got a superhuman memory, just checked the date on photographs taken there). Sadly we haven’t been back to the Peak District area since then so we must put on our list for a return visit, with family, hip issues, and Covid we have had a few disrupted years! Loved looking at the dog pictures, as I may have mentioned before I always had a hankering to own a setter (an English setter ideally) after we lost our Golden Retriever, too late now as neither of us could give them the appropriate exercise, still love to see them though.

Our last day, today, up at Conkers C&CC site. Looking a bit damp for a pack-away day. Fortunately we don't have much to pack up, these days.
....already thinking about our next outing.... I reckon we might try Sutton-on-Sea CAMC site. Not an area we have been to....

Today we walked to Chatsworth, starting in Pilsley (where it's free to park!
) through Edensor along the river and back via Baslow. The usual peace and quiet of the estate is being shattered at the moment as they're getting settled up for the horse trials which must be coming up soon. In the park they have the most amazing display of sculptures from the "Burning Man" exhibition - https://www.chatsworth.org/events/burning-man/
Some staggering artwork.
Always feels rather strange walking past the gate to the club site without calling in!

Chatsworth often has some interesting outdoor art on display, you are certainly getting around on your holiday Moulesy! We have a lot of noise outside over the next few days so we escaped late morning to the coast (where it poured with rain!) Took this photo in the garden today a single bright tree peony flower, it hasn't flowered for two years.

Nice photos again Moulesy.
Thanks for the info the other day about the church in Ashford. I can't recall the number of times we've walked through or started a walk in Ashford but amazingly we have failed to call into the church, and we always tend to make a call into any church en route. I couldn't believe that we hadn't but your post brought home that fact. We'll make a note to do so and will probably be back in the area some time in the next few months.

A great day out walking behind Skiddaw and five Wainwrights done. Brae Fell,Great Sca Fell, Knot, Meal Fell and last but no means least the one and only Great Cockup. The views would have been great I've been told but it was low flying clouds all the way but that didn't dampen our day. Finished off by finding a great tearoom in Uldale, which was the former village school so felt right at home. I normally post some pictures but apart from glimpses like this one it was all mist.

"All of our operatives are very busy at the moment and we will answer your call as soon as one of them becomes available. Your call is important to us but you may be able to find what you are looking for by checking out our website at......."
Obviously not that important that you could employ more staff to answer said phone calls. That's 45 minutes of my life I'll never get back. It just seems a standard response to a call to any large organisation such as banks or energy companies or broadband/phone operators these days.
I wouldn't mind but today's call couldn't be answered by looking at the website as I was ringing a B/Soc on behalf of MiL. She had to explain that I would be talking to them when we eventually got through. Give the young man his fair due he did satisfy our request, eventually. She would have hung up after about 3 minutes! You don't necessarily gain more patience as you get older, as Mrs WN succinctly points out to me on a regular basis.

Fresh food shopping then more packing, this time of the car. More local would be councillors canvassing today. We do seem to have a lot to choose from on Thursday.

Oh my how I sympathise. I can't tell you how many hours of my life I have lost listening to this 'rubbish' and shouting if I was important you'd employ more staff 😤🤐 recently with the house move.
More than enough to do without this added rubbish. I had to chase Eon 3 times by phone because the several times the bot online didn't understand my question and closed me down I did eventually get in the 30 minute queue for an online chat, but the phone came good first!, for our refund, over £100 so not chicken feed, when we left our last house.
They put the DD up to a silly amount but I knew they'd owe us within the 1st month so didn't bother contacting them. Did reading's online, got instant acknowledgement which didn't acknowledge it was a final reading. Alarm bell, but I was patient. Further email saying thanks for your reading but as you're on DD we'll let you know if it needs amending! Immediately cancelled DD before they could help themselves to more! No refund, so waste an hour or so be to assured money will be in your account tomorrow - it takes 10 working days for refunds - WHY?? No satisfactory answer, it didn't arrive - once again an hour of my life gone, call handler in Cape Town 🤐. Defo been done in tomorrow. Guess what? Another 30 minutes got a guy from complaints based in UK, oh looking at it it hasn't been authorised........ I wasn't overly polite but it was in our account later the same day! What gualls me most is during the music 🤔, try website, your call important etc, they add don't abuse our staff - which I fully agree with BUT MAYBE that wouldn't be an issue if you hadn't already used the bulk of your patience waiting for a human.... Rant over.
Continuing on the above theme I thought I'd sort gas and electric suppliers. None interested in new customers, put nicely in their online message, 'not a good time to swap probably best to stay with your current supplier'. When I rang Utility Warehouse with the readings on the day of our move, chap tried to tell me their prices and T&C's he was surprised it wasn't uppermost in my mind! He sent booklet through. Just got the energy 😉😉 to read and digest this evening. No prices, but cheaper if you pay by DD, up to 10% . I try their website for prices, can't use it as they supply our property, call this number. I just can't face it.
What was wrong with the old way of gas board supplying gas, electric board supplying electric, BT the phone? It certainly lessened the stress and jobs involved, it'll be another 36 years before I consider a move again 🤣🤣🤣.
Been making up chest of drawers from a well known Swedish company for the last 3 days, 4 down, 1 pack left to make. Proud of myself, never made flat pack before. 1st one took me 6 hours, I've got progressively quicker with each. But they are heavy...
We actually had a shower of rain today, whilst I was returning from first dog walk. Library van was outside the school, so called to say hello, welcomed nicely with come on in, bring the dog. Joined but didn't take a book - daren't get sidetracked yet 🥲. By the time I got home I was quite damp. Sadly it didn't do much good for the garden or pots
Right must get off here and back into sorting things. Nice to read folks posts and see photos 👍

One of your photos is actually one of the horse trial jumps Moulesy. The arced sculpture, it lives at Chatsworth permanently. The others are very interesting, always lots of art work at Chatsworth😁

We woke up to actual rain this morning!

So it was a late start and a leisurely stroll along the Monsal Trail which is virtually on the doorstep of our cottage. The famous view of the viaduct from Monsal Head is probably one of the most photographed in the country. We walked through the Headstone Tunnel, over the viaduct with views down to the Wye, and on through the Cressbrook and Litton tunnels. The walls of the tunnels still have huge patches of soot on them and at regular intervals are these "refuges" used in the past to allow workmen a place of safety when trains came past.
Below the trail there is a view of the old Cressbrook Mill buildings. When we first started visiting the area, some 50 years ago, they were in a very sorry state but have now been renovated and converted into what I should imagine are very desirable (and expensive!) apartments.

A very wet morning but the forecast said a vast improvement in the early afternoon. And so it was!
Thanks to our support vehicle driver we were dropped off at Newlands pass and went up Knot Rigg heading to Ard Crags and to be picked up at Rigg Beck. Misty up to Knot Rigg then improving all the way till totally clear when we were picked up. Hard to believe that all these were taken within two hours!

Our next tour that was starting Friday now in tatters, as OHs problems have recently got worse she is now in hospital after emergency operation on a extremely bad (NHS words not mine) dislocated hip after her third serious fall in a week,at home,
When in either of our LVs she has little space, without some where to stop falls,

Plenty of curtain twitching as because of where and how she fell, ambulance crew needed help to get her out of the house ,so the local fire service arrived with all their rescue kit

Operated on last night , back on ward at 0125 this morning
Ps we were advised by East of England ambulance service could be up to six hour delay, ,as it was it was we only had to wait 1. hr 32 mins
The Ambulance crew were really attentive and even came to check on OH after each A&E later Hand overs while she was waiting for specialist surgeon to arrive to operate
Pps called at chippie on way home from bus ,he asked if I knew what was going on with emergency services were near our house ,when I explained. he refused payment for my meal

So sorry to hear your news JVB. So stressful for you both. At least it sounds as though the emergency services did well and well done that chippy. I do hope everything turns out well for you both. Best wishes.

Sorry to hear your news, JVB. Hope that she is not suffering too much and make a full and speedy recovery. All the best to you both and take care yourself.

Not a lot happening at home, as I'm still waiting to hear when my OP will be, so that is delaying when we will be off again. We don't want to be half way down the country and then have to rapidly return. It has meant that we have had plenty of time to do some clearing out, so have had 3 trip to both the recycling centre and to the charity shop with bags of unwanted stuff.
On the plus side we have been able to give Flyte plenty of local walks and he has come on no end. Without seeing him up close people now think that we are just dog training.
Grand photos from those away, M and CS. Nice to see places we are familiar with but not visited for a while.

....mind you, it's surprising how our tastes change. Carol's 90 year old mother used to drink so much tea. Everytime we go over these days she's always got her coat on and is waiting at the front door ready so that she can go to Costa for a coffee.... 😀😀😀

Thanks all of you for your concern and good wishes,,
We have a ferry booked for next Thursday to IOW as not seen my brother and family for two years ,and they do not come off the Island, I think they have an invisible to us mainlanders that keeps them on the island

We are keeping 2 of our grandchildren company this evening (definitely NOT babysitting 😁) while our daughter and SIL are at the Bill Bailey concert. 14 year old grandson had no idea how the TV works as 'I never watch it'. He made us a cup of tea (obviously under orders from his parents ) and then disapeared upstairs. Luckily when 12 year old grand-daughter got home from her football training she sorted it out for us and is keeping us company watching The Sewing Bee.

Definitely looking like the weather is warming up today. We have to get our garden sorted before we go away as we have the open gardens looming later. Just about got the seedlings in, surplus going to family and a plant fair. This weekend Somerset Cider Brandy are having a Mexican food day, an easy going event in one of their orchards. Daughter and co are playing the music so might go along as the support team.
Hope you manage your IOW trip ok JVB without any more things happening.
Will take a walk with the dogs to the Polling Station soon, extra dog has had another holiday here and had a good time! 🐶

JVB best wishes to you both. Its as tough being on the outside as being tge one in hospital. Hope the troops rally around you and well done that fish and chop guy.
Good photos to see and great news 🤞about Flyte settling.
Awoken to a beautiful morning. Opened email won on premiums bonds amount unknown as yet..opened fb message - didn't recognise the photo do a bit wary, turned out to be from a teenage friend who I kept vaguely in touch with through the years. Not such good news a mutual friend died after short time with ovarian caner on Monday.
Please make the most of every day folks.
Having breakfast but also helping OH dismantle kitchen sink drain yuk.... can see why it's gurgling and not draining away well. Dora is dancing around for her walk so I'm torn. I think the walk will win, as its too lovely to miss anf the pipes will still be here when we return. The last unit looks unlikely to be completed today!
Enjoy your day folks

Just popped down the road for a blood test... surprised how warm it was outside considering we've had some really cool morning this last week. I could have left my pullover at home! 😀
Enjoy your walk Bakers2 and Brue. I've never met a 14 year old who didn't know how to work the TV, Millie.... a rare feature for a 14 Yr old, I reckon... Haven't been to the I.O.W. for years, JVB. Enjoy your trip when it comes... we really must go back some day....

The 14 year old grandson does everything online upstairs on his PC these days David. He never has anything to do with something as old fashioned as the TV!
Absolutely beautiful morning here. 🌞😎
