Today is our last full day here near Clitheroe and we couldn't let a visit go by without climbing Pendle Hill. Though we did cheat a bit and take the longer, easier route up from Nick o' Pendle rather than the lung bursting climb up from Barley which we did last time we were here. The views weren't quite as spectacular as they can be because of the high cloud cover but at least that meant it stayed cool enough to make it a pleasant walk.

Tomorrow we move to our second cottage, near Little Longstone in the Peak District - on Sunday we have the "annual" Setter Rescue walk in Matlock, the first time they've been able to hold it for 3 years. Looking forward to meeting up with some old friends again. smile

Don't know what happened to the weather but we had a freezing cold lunch break on Dunster Beach on our way back from our very short break (we would have extended it if we'd been in a nicer spot at Exebridge.) Nice drive over Exmoor, not a soul in sight, so had my "moorland" fix, always love seeing Exmoor!

OH is looking at new phones for me, it's keeping him happy alongside the snooker. I could see those green tables on many a caravan TV on site! wink

Do I want a pink or purple phone?....No, I just want one that works. Good to hear you are fixed phonewise WN. laughing

Interesting watching a couple of neighbours having some major projects done on their houses. One had soffits and gutting replaced and the other had solar panels fitted. Absolutely horrified at the lack of Health and Safety. A few years ago we had our soffits and guttering replaced and we used a company we had used for our windows as they always did a good job. I will admit that the price was a bit steep but having to have scaffolding erected for the work to be done no doubt added quite a bit to the price. The house of the neighbour in question only use ladders. I just hope they had good insurance! What horrified me about the solar panel installation was that once they fixed them on the roof there was probably about a foot of tiles either side and these chaps were working on that foot of space installing bird proofing, millimetres away from a 30 foot drop into the garden! I know they are young and confident but the smallest distraction could have spelt tragedy?

Lovely photo of both of you and the dogs, M. At least you should have a dry walk underfoot to the top of Pendle, as it can get rather squelshy on the route from the Nick as we well know. Hope you get a good turnout for your charity walk.

Glad to read that your OH was able to get the M/H sorted, TG, and you can get away on time.

Pleased to hear that you passed the medical, tda. Hope you found something of interest for your mum today.

We have been continuing with our clearing out, and have another load of "stuff" to go to the tip, having been there twice already. We did discover an awning that we didn't know we possessed!! In between we have had Flyte out on the playing fields on a couple of occasions off the lead for quite a while. Have managed to stop him running too far from us with liberal use of his dog whistle, encouraging calls and a pocket full of treats!😊

We watched similar soffit replacement antics a couple of years ago with our neighbours David.  The young lads doing the work were literally just walking about the roof, also just using ladders.  It scared me so much I really couldn’t watch the work much, their soffits still look ok so we assume the job was ok but absolutely no H&S.  The company did quote us (and everyone in our Close) but no way could we entertain having them!  Like you ours was done with a company using scaffolding.

I think it's quite common, certainly up here, to just use ladders for soffit, gutters and solar panel work. When we had our chimney removed from the roof that's all they used and it was wintertime. When my sister had panels fitted again just ladders. Likewise with ours.

Another beautiful sunny day, still not that warm but its pleasant if outside working or walking.

NTH, good to hear that Flyte is adapting to his new condition. Yes great to have a handy man around to sort problems, thankfully he is calmer than me I was having kittens. If it was just us going away it wouldn't have been a problem, just rearrange the ferry but we are travelling with our friends from the west coast. It's their first time abroad with their van so really didn't want to have to do that. Still all sorted now 😊

I remember a "wobbly" house painter sailing past our window years ago. He broke his leg and we declined to let the other painter continue... Thank goodness they weren't working on the roof!  Our local roofer has a good head for heights but I've rarely seen him without scaffolding around but he does use ladders for solar panel repairs etc.

We are now on site very nice and sunny we are cooking on the Cadac. Left home late yesterday afternoon and made the short journey to Strathclyde Park CC site for the night then made the short two hour tow across to Berwick today roads ok lots of caravans out but a bit busy around Edinburgh. Got our new awning up took a bit of working out but we got there and should be easier next time we are very pleased with it seems great and much easier to put up than our air awning which we now plan to sell. Not sure what we plan to do over the next few days relax hopefully.

Hope everyone else has a nice weekend

Been a quiet week, not much to report, have enjoyed reading what you've all been up to though. smile

Had to take the dog to the vets this morning, last year he had a nasty abcess on his tail which the vet had to lance and then it was 2 courses of antibiotics before the vet was satisfied it had healed.  Yesterday though we noticed he was licking his tail again and discovered a small lump, vet wasn't too worried today, she said it wasn't infected and just to keep an eye on it.

OH picked up the "new to us" tow car this afternoon, so he has been playing laughing he was given a bottle of Whisky by the garage owner too!

Moulesy, your picture of the Packhorse Inn brought back plenty of memories of the happy hours spent in there, although it's been a few years since we were there.

Nice pub that one M, having eaten there on your recommendation. I seem to recall that I had Cider from Brittany as the beer contained wheat but I was impressed with it. Enjoy the meet up, tomorrow is it?

Glad the awning seems good Francis. We had the same experience putting it up the first time but it does get easier. Mind you we haven't put it up for at least 18 months now so I suppose we will have forgotten how.laughing Taking our sun canopy, more in hope than expectation for our long trip next week.

Hope all of those away or are going have a good time and stay safe.

One of those days that threw up problems we hadn't counted on having.

Eventually got them sorted but they did take up a large chunk of the day. Won't bore you with them but suffice to say one involved a bank and the other involved Calor Gas.

Did have some time for doing some gardening late this afternoon on what has been a glorious day weather wise. Managed to sort out a CL for when we return to the UK in June so quite happy with that.

It's been a nice day here. Shopping this morning then back to do some gardening, well more weed killing really. Our next door neighbour has put up a fence between us.

We are ok with it so no problem there, however he never bothered to clear the weeds or grass on his side before erecting the fence. So we now have them 😫 can't get to them as we have trellis on our side. Good job I have some really good weed killer and a sprayer. Hoping by the time we get back from France they will have cut back the grass from underneath the fence, weeds should be dead so I can deal with when I have more time.

OH was up cleaning the guttering and doing a couple of repairs, no scaffolding required as we live in a bungalow 😉

Rain forecast for tomorrow afternoon, the garden will enjoy that and I will get the ironing done.

    Have a good weekend folks.

Hope everyone who is away this weekend have decent weather and a good time.

After OH's visit to the hairdresser this morning we head over to the shore. Had a couple of walks, before and after our picnic lunch. I kept Flyte on a long lead and it worked well. He was able to cope with all the different surfaces we encountered and there were lots of different sniffs for him to investigate. The tide was in so we didn't let him off the lead, but had it been out and the sand exposed we would have at least given him a bit of free time, next time perhaps.

Good to hear Flyte is coping well Nellie. So long as they have a good quality of life, lots of love and affection, plenty of attention, they just get on with things.

Been a busy week for me, trying to get stuff sorted for shop. Thankfully all ready to go tomorrow, so I am hoping for a day in garden after drop off. OH has a ride planned.

Best wishes for a safe trip to all those heading overseas, and staying here.

A nice sunny morning in the SW but rain forecast tomorrow. frown

Just about to transfer seedlings out of greenhouse but an overnight groundfrost has put me off doing that, thankfully no air frost, the apple blossom is good this year.

Although we've just had a break it doesn't feel like it! Hope all the other holidays go well we'll just be mooching around at home for the B/H. 🌼

We were both allowed out yesterday after our self isolation so we went to Aldi and did a big shop, the garden centre and then M&S after which I was exhausted. I think I might take it easy today as still feeling tired. It is beautiful weather here today at last so I think I will potter in the garden.

Glad to hear that Flyte is adapting nellie. I expect he will get more used to his 'new life' as time goes on. I hope your dog is OK Helen with no further problems.

Glad to hear that your MH is now ready for your trip 'over there' TG. Have a wonderful time. I hope your plans for your trip 'over there' are going well also WN. Happiness indeed moulesy! I hope the setter meet goes well. You certainly have good weather for it. Enjoy your trips everyone who is away or planning to go away. Enjoy the sun this bank holiday weekend (that took me by surprise!) while the sun lasts.

We have rain, started around 13.30 not heavy just nice gentle rain, the garden will like that.

But more pottering this morning, then I decided to do a bit of cooking. Chicken Madras, chicken sweet and sour and chicken and noodle soup, yes I had bought a chicken 😅😅  all now chilling ready to be put into containers for the freezer. Some will come with us for the journey, the rest will be for when we get back. I made lasagne,  bolognese and chilli the other day, all in the freezer.

Ironing beckons, just need to find something decent to watch on tv while I'm doing it, that way I get through it no bother.

Millieh, I felt tired for awhile after Covid, it does get better just don't force it.

    Happy bank holiday.

Thanks, W. The meet up is actually tomorrow (Sunday), just as the weather looks set to change!  frown

We're just back in from one of our favourite walks in the area, and, if I remember rightly, one of yours too - along Lathkill Dale. We did it from the other side of the valley this time, starting just above Long Rake, across to Calling Low farm and down what seemed like an endless set of steep stone steps. Worth it in the end, though, a lovely walk in really warm sunshine. smile

Glad you are feeling better Millie,  take things slowly.

Moulesy, hope you and the dogs enjoy the walk tomorrow.

Beautiful day today, had lunch at the local farm shop cafe, before a walk round the woods to see the bluebells. Finished off the afternoon catching up with a friend and hearing all about their time in Scotland helping out with the lambing.

Glad to hear Flyte is adapting Nellie.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend everyone 🙂

Sounds as if everyone is having a good time.  Lovely picture from Cumbria, Corners....  We're just up the road from home, at Conkers C&CC site for our usual MayDay outing with a group of friends.  Raining this morning but we have our two granddaughters with us 'for one night only'.  They decided at 6am that CBeebies was a better option that sleeping...!! 😄😄

Lovely to read folks news enjoy your time home or away.

Milliehull sorry to read you've been poorly but are now back in circulation please take it easy and go with 'your body' on doing things and not overdo it.

DSB how lovely to have the granddaughters, better CBB's than having to dress etc to go to the play area 😉

Beautiful day yesterday after a heavy frost 😱. Lovely visit, probably our first  'proper' one by anyone at this house, my brother and SIL for the day. Lots of most welcome help - especially on all the mantainence stuff that OH no longer up to 😪. Lunch and dinner in return. Somehow managed to be 'conned' into dinner for son DIL and grandson as they called in to say hi to all. I was forewarned but I can vouch catering for 7 was OK. They even got the leftovers to take home for warm-ups 🥰🥰..

Today is grey and cooler after the dog walk it's building chest of drawers and sorting digital phones..having got land line WiFi etc sorted we were informed we were entitled to digital phones which arrived. I thought well stick with our old ones. Oh no,.they now don't work and I'll have to pair to WiFi. Might have to get the young brains involved - in return for dinner I expect! But I'll give it a good go myself but could do without another task. So many unnecessary complications 😤🤐.

Still to sort a couple of change of  address and then 'tackle' gas and electric suppliers. Again so complex and unnecessary. In the 'good old days'  it was BT, Electricity Board and Gas Board. No brain hurt or hours of listening to t&cos. It's called progress! Unless I get a very good deal I suspect I'll save little if I factor in my time cost...

Talking of which my jobs won't do themselves but the dog might do her own walk 🤣🤣

    Enjoy your day folks.
