Getting the caravan ready for going for service on Monday, just a few things left to remove now, then I need to put old sheets over the bed and the front settees.
Callum is a little better today, temperature down a bit, eating a little, but no energy. Nathan is fine, so are we, just done our day 2 LFTs.
We cannot help with childcare as Callum is off limits, so DD has had to take time off work. If Callum returns a negative test on day 6 and day 7, he can return to nursery, so maybe on Thursday next week. Presumably the same applies to Nathan. DD and SIL are also fine so far.
Good day for doing stuff outside, very sunny.

Well we have finally made it away in the van after having to cancel the last two weekends so this is our first trip of the year. We are just local so an easy 50 min tow this afternoon weather nice blue skies and the sun is out although it’s a bit cold. All set up now think we are going to treat ourselves to fish and chips from the local chippy tonight and then just have a few drinks in the van.
Hope everyone else has a nice weekend

Just spending a few days in Brighton Caravan Site and then Littlehampton for one night. Brighton is having a bit of work done, creating more service pitches and repairing hardstandings. It is always a pleasure to stay here and the location is excellent, particularly for the Marina. It is also good to see money being invested. We stayed at Oxford Caravan and Camping Site last week, which is a superb location, albeit a little noisy, but does need some investment. Wherever you are have a good weekend!

Not an awe inspiring week, weather been very mixed, but glorious today. Have spent some time inside the caravan getting ready for the off later this month, but i say that with some trepidation, 2 years ago it was covid now we are looking at a possible war engulfing the whole of Europe rather than just a war within Europe.
This is the entrance to Portsmouth Harbour, hopefully we will be sailing out later this month bound for France and onwards into Spain.
Not spent a lot of time on CT this week, for me it is now too much hassle, managed to get on today but it took for ever, almost finished watching "places in the Sun" on the box before i got in. Did notice that a lot of the posts are quite old, a sure sign that people are loosing patience with the poor peformance.
Special treat tomorrow, received some gift vouchers for the local Bistro so off for brunch , and fancing eggs benedict with a couple of sausages, warm croissants with jam and butter and a glass of white wine, that will be my calories for the week.
I see our UK covid infections are still on the decline, some good news at last

Plenty of fuel at both stations in Keswick, but it's at £1.59 petrol and £1.69 for diesel

Came away from Southport site this morning and got a shock to see that the fuel at the pump has jumped up by 10 p. Oh well! Walking to the local Spa sounds like being a more regular plan.

Bewcastle looked interesting Nellie, the carvings on the cross are beautiful, they've lasted well. The museum at Whithorn has lots of examples, safely inside out of the weather.
Brue, I would suggest visiting Bewcastle on a fine day as there are a couple of decent walks from the village that look worth doing. We didn't hang about because of the rain but would certainly go back for another visit.

Moved on up to a CL we've used a few times in the past near Jedburgh. Managed to get both packed up and then set up in the dry, but did have rain and some mist en route, and more rain this evening.
Francis, are you on the Ayr site? We have booked 4 nights there for later in this trip, provided we can keep getting filled up with diesel. It's been a good few years since we last visited there.
Kjell, pleased to read that Callum is feeling better and that you have tested negative.

I used to have an acquantance who was astonished that her cavalier, spaniel bitch, was pregnant to its son! I tried to explain to her that animals have never heard of incest! I was a volunteer for 5 years at an animal sanctuary (mainly cats, hedgehogs and rabbits) and even when given vouchers to have their cats spayed, many people simply did not bother, then later on, expected the charity to rehome their kittens for them!

Arrived and all setup for our 3 weeks in Lanzarote

Weather not that great, overcast and windy, Sun keeps making an appearance now and again but not long enough to consider sunbathing. Shopping it will be then and a drive somewhere. No shortage of fuel on the islands, though there is a shortage of rental cars. Thankfully we booked ours on line months ago.
Kj, hope wee Callum recovers soon and you and OH stay free from it.

Birthday party day for us. Sorry to hear about Callum K, hope he picks up quickly. Enjoy Jedburgh and Lanzarote, this diabolical website doesn’t allow for any decent conversation at the moment, but kind regards to one and all.
Any tips on entertaining a frisky 93 year old would be welcome…….🥳 The dog can’t keep up!

I’ve read all those posts last week about dentists, and yesterday had my own dentist experience. I’ve never been comfortable with going to the dentist, and have become very adroit at finding excuses. But this week it caught up with me. Niggling toothache didn’t go away and painkillers didn’t offer relief for long. So I plucked up courage and rang the dentist - the one I last used. It turned out my last visit was in 2014 and I had been dropped. They weren’t taking on any new patients (NHS or Private).
So they gave me a number to ring - the emergency dentist at the hospital. I rang at lunch time and got an appointment at 17:45. No time to have second thoughts, and by then I would have let my husband have a go with some veterinary implements.
The dentist was very calming and non judgemental, but ruthless. Ten minutes later and £23.80 poorer I was two teeth less. It wasn’t pleasant or pain free (and the pain later on when the anaesthetic wore off was off the scale), but I’m very grateful for the NHS that treats such recalcitrant cowards as me.

Well I've reluctantly liked your post Goldie as that wasn't a good experience but at least the NHS came to the rescue...hope all is well. It's a bit like the Pam Ayres Poem, "I wish I'd looked after my teeth!"
I had a phase when I didn't mind dentists too much now I've reverted to minding quite a bit as we have such limited dental services where we live. All those wanting to move to the SW will find some gaps in local services and in their teeth...😬Good to hear those on the travel circuit are ok. We had booked a short break at Hillhead later this month, chosen because of the facilities like the shop and food and access to Dartmouth etc. Have now discovered that these facilities don't open til May 17th, can this be right? All those going for Easter will be disappointed. (We were expecting to miss out on the bar and restaurant thinking it might be open at weekends only early in the season.)

£23.80, that's almost the entrance fee to my dentist without any work done!!!
I don't think any of us like going to the dentist but would say that with our previous long time dentist it was a lot less stressful because of the confidence that built up over the years. For us that has all changed since she left and we have to build new relationships.
It is difficult to say whether regular check ups would have prevented your problem although they may have identified a potential problem that could have been remedied earlier. On the bright side those two teeth are never going to cause a problem in the future

Dentists don't bother me in anyway, I'm one of the lucky ones that started visiting them when I was in primary school so have never had a bad experience.
I worked as a dental nurse before we got married and have seen how it can affect some folk. One big guy we had was ok until you had to give him an injection. He would sit there ok until he saw the needle, then he would faint. We knew this would happen so we're prepared for it. All work carried out and patient fine each time. Wednesday mornings were gas extractions, I don't think it happens in surgeries now but it did then. Children were not that good with gas and it could be upsetting for parents when they came to afterwards. The worst ones were full extractions under gas, not nice.I
We don't pay anything for check ups in Scotland, OH is with NHS dentist, all other work has to be paid for though. We don't pay for the tests either.

Another lovely sunny day here, doing some work outside while waiting for DD to arrive, she is coming to help me lift this very heavy bathroom counter top out into the garage so I can work on it. 2 pieces need to be joined to make an L shape, using both biscuit joints and joining bolts, so not something that can be done in-situ.
Once the cut-outs are made and everything is known to fit, we can oil the wood, which will take a few days as 3 coats are required. Also need to work out where the cut out for the basin should be, and whether that can be cut in-situ without damaging the unit underneath. If not, then that may mean trying it in place to mark it up, and then removing it again.
The centre of the basin is to line up with the centre of the mirror, but the mirror is not yet in place, so it is all getting quite complicated!
Callum is much better today, he wanted to come here with his Mum, but she reminded him he was "isolating".

This link shows the NHS price list.
I seem to have got off lightly.

You are so right about NHS dentists in the SW Brue. We were with our NHS dentist for 15 years and then our dentist left to go elsewhere, at that time, while considering what to do we missed one appointment, when I called to make the next one we were told that we had been taken off their list, no warning, nothing. Found that no others locally were taking on patients and the waiting list was likely to be 3years for one with a not good feedback. At that time my front tooth filling fell out, little choice but to go private! They are very good but we now both have to pay £20 per month, that is just for check ups and 3 cleans a year, anything else needed is extra, so I think you got off lightly Goldie.

Oh dear....I have been too close to Callum ........no symptoms but just tested positive. Feeling fine so far.
OH is still negative........meantime. We are not in our usual bedroom due to the work going on in the en suite bathroom, so in single beds at present. That, and not getting too close/coughing on each other, will hopefully mean she does not also get it. Better move elsewhere to eat dinner.
Will need to cancel my bone density scan due next Wednesday, but dentist appointments the following week should be OK.

Had a lovely day today it’s been blue skies and sunny. We took a drive down to Portpatrick and had a lovely meal at the Harbour House pub one of our favourite places and as usual the meal was nice also the weather was so good we even managed a pint outside on their terrace first outside pint of the year. Stopped off for a wander around Stranraer on the way back to the van then hit a pothole and the back tyre off the car went flat managed to inflated it again and get back to the van but will need to change it tomorrow before we head home.
Nellie - We are at The Ranch which is a great site one of our go to local places we do use Ayr CC site regularly too but it doesn’t open until next weekend. I’m sure you will enjoy it there we use it often through the year as it’s only 35 mins from home we alternate between Ayr and here at the Ranch and would recommend both. We are planning to go to Craigie nearer the end of this month

We have been with the same practise for the 43 years we have lived in Milton Keynes. No NHS alternative as with a constantly growing population any NHS places are always snapped up very quickly. The charges at our dentist are £52 for ten minutes and then about an additional £26 for every additional 5 minutes. We decided several years ago that one check up a year was sufficient so it wasn't worth joining Denplan as it only seems to cover check ups, at least if you want to keep the cost minimal? Something like a crown will cost £400+.

We haven't tried The Ranch, so perhaps another time. We are at Craigie from the 28th, for 4 nights, taking advantage of the mid week discount!
Prior to that we are are on a CL near Cumbernauld, Barbeth Farm, which we've not visited before.0 -
I remember having to have gas to have a tooth extracted when still in primary school. Tainted me for a long time as a child but as an adult I've always used tge maxim that the pain and the problem isn't going to solve itself so if it has to be done, best to be done early.
Mrs.WN is the same. Must admit root canal treatment was far, far worse than the eventual extraction.
An expensive day. Travelled up to our next CL, set up and tried to move the car but nothing happened. AA diagnosed new battery needed. Having seen the diagnosis I agreed so my credit card took the hit.
Hope this is the last of the rain tonight. We refused to countenance going on the pitch offered as it would have meant driving over grass. Fortunately there was a last minute cancellation on a hardstanding, which we had originally asked for, which saved us having to look elsewhere.

Oh, WN, not the thing you want happening while you are away and have to use a supplier local to where you are stopping and not get one from a less expensive on line retailer. Where have you got to now?
Kjell, sorry to hear that you have tested positive and had to cancel the scan. Stay safe.
TG, enjoy your time away. With reference to hire cars, our daughter couldn't get one when they holidayed recently in Malta, as following on from the lack of tourist over the last couple of years due to Covid the hire companies had sold off most of their stock!
Tda, hope that the birthday celebrations went to planned and all involved had a grand time. Belated birthday greetings to you, and your mum too.

After a heavy frost over night today was fine and sunny, although still cool. OH was able to get the week's washing done and it dried outside while we were out. Went into Jedburgh for essential provisions, and while we were have lunch in the car a charity tractor run of around 75 units drove through the town. We were glad that we hadn't encountered them on the way in as it took quite a while for them to turn off the main road and let the following vehicles past.

Nellie, We are at the New Willow CL. You'll know it. Sounds like you had a better day than us. AA sourced a battery through Euro Parts.First time we've had to use AA as Nationwide just changed breakdown companies from Brittania last month. Good service from them.
