It was eldest son's birthday yesterday so we were invited over for a lovely family evening meal. It was a great evening.
Good to hear that your youngest son is getting into practice with nappy changing Helen 😁.
Hope you enjoyed the snowdrops at Easton Walled Gardens WN. Pity we missed each other.
Looks like you had a great few days away with Ralph and Lady (plus Mrs M of course) moulesy. Lovely photos.

Back from dentist. As I mentioned before this is a new dentist to me having only previously seen her for a check up. I got the impression as I had not requested an emergency appointment that all the work would be completed today. It transpired that this was not necessarily the case! There appeared to be three options, two of them requiring further work which I was not keen on. We did discuss gluing the sheered tooth back into place but she was not confident that it would last that long. The second option was to have where the remains of the tooth built up to form a proper sized tooth but that would require a second appointment. I did mention that I was not concerned about the cosmetic appearance as it can hardly be seen. So we agreed on a third option which was to apply a small amount of filling/amalgam to protect the remains of the tooth and that was completed this morning. For so many years we have had a dentist who would just get on with things, even if she discovered something during a checkup. Our new dentist is a lovely person and works in a non scary way but there was a degree of hesitation which I have not come across before. Perhaps involving the patient more in the decisions is the new way of working?
I can now concentrate on getting everything back in the van after the service. Just putting the crookery a cutlery plus pots and pans through the dishwasher, at least the second load!!!

Is it just a Cornwall thing but are we back to panic buying at the fuel pumps? Starting noticing some “does anybody know where I can get diesel” type questions on local social media this morning, now most local garages and supermarkets are out of Diesel and traffic queuing at petrol stations is causing grid lock. Hopefully just folks rushing to get some before further price rises rather than shortages for other reasons?

No, not just us. I’ve heard of it in N Wales and Hampshire. I’ve not encountered anything as bad locally as the scenario you describe though.

I think, at least I hope, that it's just a price worry SB. As I used half a tank getting down to Grantham yesterday with the caravan I needed to fill it up as we're moving on tomorrow so called into Sainsbury just after lunch. Very busy but I hit lucky as someone was leaving so I filled up with diesel, noticing that a couple of pumps had no more diesel in them. Did some shopping and 10 minutes later drove out past a sign saying "No More Diesel" on the forecourt. Phew.

After some early morning rain we headed for Belton House, just 4 miles away from site. Driving into the village of Belton we were met by a quad bike driving farmer coercing his flock of "Rastafarian" Sheep down a lane. There was about 30 of these Cotswold Sheep and a sight to behold.

Had a lovely dry walk around the estate, seeing a couple of White Harts away from the other deer. Still dry when we left and did some food shopping in Grantham before returning to site and a taste of "normality" as we decided to use the shower block, particularly as they had just been cleaned and no-one else was using them. First time we have not used our own facilities since March 2020.

plus ça change…
In my student days I was a petrol pump attendant (1970s). I recall on budget day the Chancellor often put 1p on a gallon of petrol (35p/gallon at the time) which was enough to spark the same panic. I regularly had threats of violence (and ‘incentives’) from some when we attempted to ration it!

Funnily enough there didn't seem to be any queue at the 2 garages we passed on the way back to the caravan, both of which had prices exceeding £1.59 for diesel yet the Asda forecourt was full, which leads me to think it's price sensitive rather than shortages. As I said, hopefully!!

Hi Bill, I was made aware of such messages on FB last Thursday evening.
The two reasons I have heard is that its 'panic' buying, after large increases were forecast and that its due to issues of low levels of supplies following shipping issues during the recent storm er, just pick a name!
The initial messages were from someone in the St Austell area, but also Bodmin was mentioned I believe, and our next door neighbor had to visit 4 places in Launceston, en route to Bristol Airport, last Friday after finding Tesco and others had no diesel.

Yes, situation in St Austell isn’t looking good - Tesco, Asda or local stations. Sadly our local garage which has been a family business for many years has just closed. So many of them have disappeared. No money in selling petrol anymore apparently, just makes supply problems worse. I’ve got a trip to Bristol Airport too on Thursday so 🤞

We had to pop into Penrith to stick up on food before our move tomorrow so, after our visit to Aldi, called in at Morrison's to fill up. We did have to queue, as they have only 8 pumps, but we were not long in getting in. The talk at the tills was the price of diesel and the likelihood of it going up much further than the £1:55.9 per litre that it was today.
What a change from the lovely weather of yesterday, with grey clouds, the light drizzle followed by quite heavy rain this afternoon. Thankfully it has not been windy and the rain eased off around 4:00.

Nice day here for me. Weather not too bad, until heavy rain set in around 4pm. Started off with a “pamper morning” for Mum. I cut her hair and blow dried it this morning, she is all coiffured ready for her birthday later this week now. Then a nice drive out ending up at Epworth and it’s good garden centre, only purchases were three sacks of compost and some seed potatoes! Doubt we will get away end of week as planned if weather stays this foul, might as well save it for better weather.
OH has promised me lunch out for my birthday, which ought to be very promising. However, “lunch on the beach” turned out to be a chilli hot can surplus to fire service requirements one Summer, and then there was the “picnic on Dartmoor” that involved a very long bike ride, a broken chain and getting lost in a bog another time, so I am a tad suspicious🤣 One thing for sure, it will involve his beloved hound, or his beloved bike!🙄😆

Interesting to see fuel prices going up. I decided to look back on my records and discovered that in 2013 petrol was 1.38 litre and diesel 1.42 litre. In between then and now petrol did drop to as low as £1 litre before it started to climb over several years. So I suppose taking inflation into account I wonder if todays prices are really that outrageous? According to one inflation tracker £1.38 would be the equivalent of £1.74 today. Just thought I would bore everyone with some historical context

Tried posting last night lost post, redid it then it just hung and did nothing. This site gets worse not better.
WN, good to hear you got away and are having a good time.
H&T, lovely that you've had your first of many cuddles with your new grandchild.
Mixed day weather wise today, yesterday was a wonderful sunny day and quite mild. Back to frost again tonight I think.
Packing done ready for the off early doors on Thursday, just the last minute bits to go in hand luggage. Looking forward to some nice warm sunshine and lovely walks along the cliffs and beaches.
OH getting his Shingles jab tomorrow, he's had Hepatic Neuralgia for a few days but it appears to be calming down now. He gets it now and again thankfully this time he caught it early and its not been to painful.
Finally managed to get contact with BF today, I've emailed twice, had an auto reply both times saying they will be in contact within 10 days. That was over 2 weeks ago, that was the last time. Phoned once which was a nightmare trying to get through, hang on for 40 minutes then line goes dead. Lots of complaints on social media about BF and trying to contact them, staff must be under terrible pressure.

Tammygirl,
I hope that BF's office is not somewhere near to EG Towers
Cos I sorted a post about Nc500 & my difficulty getting petrol the very first time I got right up there but Post written three times, nicely checked out and posted but I think its floating out in the ether somewhere ~~ but took about seven minutes in total to be rejected !0 -
ABM, it really is diabolical on here at times, it took ages tonight just to get onto the site then every time I try to go back through the pages it just goes round and round and doesn't load.
So apologies if I've missed anything important life is to short to wait around.

We're at Teesdale Barnard Castle CAMC site at present. Weather just a bit damp today, but hoping for better tomorrow. Hopefully we'll be off to find Low Force or High Force waterfalls, weather permitting. Today we've been for a quick visit to Barnard Castle and a look around Egglestone Abbey and Bowes Castle. A bit windy at Bowes cut our visit a bit short...

David you are in OH's home area. We spent a lot of time at that site when FIL was still alive. Such a lovely area. Enjoy.
Yes this site is terrible. I tried on both my phone and PC last night. No luck with either.

Well at least I don't feel victimised if everyone else is having trouble getting this website to work 🤐
Wet here this morning but was glorious weekend. Yesterday it hung around and we got to the coast. Walk on the Naze, great clear views across to Harwich and Flexistowe. Then did the coast down to Frinton for picnic lunch, bought in the town - got go help the economy 😉, but eaten in the car as sun lovely but wind very chilly. Then a good walk for us, and run for Dora, on the beach. She adores it and was in and out of the sea brrrrr. Found herself poodle to play chase with as well. Dog heaven. We heard nothing from her once back in the car and she's still in bed 😂 as I type. Lots of sand in the beautifully valeted car but so what!
DSB in a part of the worldwide like, enjoy. Loved Bowes museum must get back there!
Happy travels and holidays to everyone in case I can't get back on here - even reading on here is difficult......

Seaside Bill wrote "I regularly had threats of violence (and ‘incentives’) from some when we attempted to ration it! "
To discourage panic buying it would be better to implement a "minimum charge £40.00" irrespective of amount filled. Then people would only buy when they actually needed to fill up instead of forming long queues for 5 litres.

A friend texted yesterday to say top up fuel. She said there were queues and folk filling containers in their car boots. Nothing like selfish folk. It'll run out eventually!
When I filled up last week tesco had most diesel pumps out of action, I presume no supplies??

We love BC, (the place, not the Site) High Force is a good visit. Egglestone Abbey is a nice place for a picnic, no charge to get in.👍
Sorry, you have found EA😬 Trust me🤣

Hi Bill, quick update-been to Bodmin this morning and no diesel at Asda or Morrisons.
Had to go to Trago so decided to try Liskeard and no diesel at Morrisons but managed to fill up at BP on Callington Road-after queuing for a few minutes and watching, what seemed like, every car slow down to check if there was a 'no diesel' sign!

Going from bad to worse here…one garage had some unleaded this morning now seems the entire town is cleaned out of any fuel, no sign of any delivery today. Tomorrow is another day….😵💫
I’ve not really been following the rewinding thread, but the idea of going back to cave dwelling is looking more attractive by the day. An alternative existence free of panic buying, global pandemic, deranged tyrants, climate/habitat destruction, lying politicians and fuel poverty has a lot going for it! 😉

B2. Our local SW TV said fuel supplies were OK, just panic buying causing the problem.
TDA hope both you and your Mum enjoy your birthdays. 🎂
We decided to go to Clarke's shopping outlet this morning, for mundane items like tea towels and a cooking pan...mission accomplished! However the busiest shop was the Lindt chocolate shop and I couldn't resist that either!
It was fairly quiet and I've hardly set foot in retail shops over the last few months so it made a change and took our minds off world events. When I got back I heard from a neighbour that her daughter's employers are shipping warm clothes to Poland. So I did a dash round for some items I can spare and they just need delivering later today. I wondered if they'd be inundated over there but because washing might be a problem extra items will be needed.
Must go and get my new pan out of it's box, I was glad to look at several as I needed a saute pan I could lift safely, some are very heavy and unwieldy. Never had one before, quite funny to try something new after X years in the kitchen managing without! 😊😀

But what about the large predators with tiny, tiny brains...................no not Putin, the dinosaurs!

We went off to Dobbies Garden Centre this morning to take advantage our free coffee membership. I was also looking for a more squirrel proof sunflower seed holder but they had sold out. I did find a wire cover that you can install over the existing feeder. It will be interesting to watch if the cunning little devil can overcome this. They seem to be quite resourceful animals so I hold out no great hope of defeating him but it will be entertaining to see!!!
On the way back Margaret wanted to have a look at a new Aldi supermarket not far from where we live. Where the new shop has been built was previously a parade of shops and on the end of the end of the original building as a mosaic of tiles created by local child who attend the nearby senior school some 40 or more years ago. It was a condition of the planning that Aldi pay for the removal and re-erection of the mosaic. They were not keen on the extra expense but eventually agreed and it is, fortunately, preserved for future generations. Picture below of its original position.
Can't say it was a great shopping experience, especially as probably less that 10% of the cliental were wearing masks!!! Interesting the amount of copy cat branding, producing something that looks and sounds like a more famous brand. The non food items can be interesting although I did spot things that would be cheaper on ebay! I do like that they have small tins of things like carrots which are handy in the motorhome. You have to watch prices though, their smoked haddock was about double what it is in ASDA! Will we be back on a regular basis, probably not but we thought we would have a look. According to the YouTube Channel "Those Happy Days" they do a good vegan range but I wouldn't be in a position to judge.
