So sorry to hear your sad news Millie. Bad news always comes with a friend, never alone, doesn't it? I'm glad Helen and Trevor at least had some more welcome news as all the news I seem to have had this year, or read about, is sad.

Starting to come out of hibernation now and made some bookings for next week, which might stretch to 3 weeks, storms providing. Also sorted out another international deposit on a site in the Netherlands for our Spring break. Once again due to it being over the Ascension period when the Dutch do like to get out and about. Had to go to the bank twice as half way through the transaction the computer went down. So not just CT!laughing Started packing the caravan with essentials that we've pilfered from it since we were last away in it in December.

I”d be more concerned about  Mr Putin’s impact on fuel supplies on the M3 - starting to see news reports of panic buying again. Deja Vue? 🙁

We too know the area well, M, having been up to the Obelisk on a number of occasions, but from the Malvern Common side. Hope you make it into the hills tomorrow, are you going to do the whole ridge?

Lovely day for you Helen, good to read that the family are doing well.

Sorry to read your news, millie, we know just what you are going through as we have just had word that daughter's MIL passed away this afternoon from cancer, following a short illness, but not a real shock. On top of that I also heard that our neighbour's father had died in Monday  after being in hospital since before Christmas. We have had better days.😞

Today hasn't been as bad as forecast so we could have travelled without any worries, but the forecast for tomorrow is for a fine, less windy day, so we start our latest trip in the morning.

So sorry to hear about your daughter's MIL nellie and also your neighbour's father. As my friend said today when I was talking to her - you think you are prepared for bad news and then you realise that you are really not. Even if bad news is expected it still comes as a shock.

So very true, millie, but it was probably the best for both, and their immediate family too, sad as it is.

Nice to hear about your first 'meeting', Helen - I bet you were so excited. And sorry to hear the sad news from others.

Well, we had a traumatic day, yesterday as Meg had her surgery - couldn't settle or concentrate on anything so, having hung on as long as I could, finally rang the vet's at 1230 to see how she was doing. She had just come round and had wolfed down some biscuits they had given her - so that was great news. What a relief.

Picked her up about 3pm and although still a bit wobbly and sleepy, she was fine. She's slept all night and has just had a small breakfast so that I could get some painkiller down her.

The Op went well and they managed to remove the lump intact - just got to wait for the histology result in a week's time but the vet was fairly confident it was nothing untoward.

    Hope Meg does well R&R.

Woke up to a sunny morning here, just having a cup of tea with the cat...his sparring partner is off on a walk. 🐕🐱

Had a nice pub take away here with daughter and partner last night. I also have a coffee and cake voucher to spend at our local cafe, won in the raffle at our village fund raising event this week. Simple pleasures!

Good to hear you got away safely Nellie, and kind thoughts on your bereavements, particularly for your daughter, and son in law.

Good to hear Meg is doing well R&R. Glorious morning here, after quite a bit of rain overnight. Hoping to get outside once things dry up a little, bit of garden tidying.

I have signed up for a Cycling challenge today. It’s to aid donations for Ukraine.

Since we didn’t get away in the van we are going to treat ourselves tomorrow night to a take away from one of our local pubs they do a very good meal and even deliver a pint. We enjoy eating out but Saturday nights they have a band on so not the quietest or most relaxing meal so best to get it delivered.

Hope everyone else enjoys their weekend

So pleased that your daughter felt well enough to have a pub takeaway at yours brue. Hopefully the change of scene will have given her a lift.

    Good news about Meg R&R.

Hope the start of your latest trip has been successful nellie.

We started a new course at our local Adult Education College this morning. The first time in 2 years. So good to be back there again and catching up with old friends. I hadn't realised how much I had missed it.

Did anyone else watch the programme about The Big Freeze of 1963 last night? That brought back memories. I was a teenager and wore the most unsuitable clothes and shoes for the weather and when I arrived home from the long walk from town crying with the cold I got no sympathy from my Mum!

Beautiful sunny day here, although rather cold. We are about to go out for a walk round our local nature reserve. Hope everyone else is enjoying some sunshine.

Wow, that is one sophisticated cat. Hobnob anyone?laughing

Our kind thoughts as well Nellie. Hope the first trip went with a hitchsmile

Fingers crossed for Meg as well. How's the other patient doing Richard?

A lovely sunny Spring like day so after being confined to quarters with the storms we devoted this morning to a walk and enjoyed listening to the birds singing and seeing the Daffs and Crocuses appearing next to Snowdrops. Lifted the spirits no end.

This afternoon was split between tidying up the garden and filling a brown bin, first one due when we're away, and packing the caravan with bits and pieces. Almost forgot to pay the Brown bin collection fee but one of the neighbours reminded me.

I remember the winter of 1963. The free milk we had at school, remember them?, was frozen solid for about 6 weeks. Nobody took the original delivery away yet we received fresh ones every day which someone had the sense to put indoors. As I was at primary school I had to wear short trousers all winter. My knees still tremble at the thought.

Just in from a fabulous day walking the southern section of the Malvern Ridge down and around Herefordshire Beacon. Both the dogs are sound asleep in the hotel lounge, Mrs M is "reading with her eyes closed" so I thought I'd post some pics before I nod off too! wink

We are being very lucky with the weather, what a contrast to last weekend!  surprised

Northern section and Worcestershire Beacon planned for tomorrow. smile

(PS - good to read the news about Meg. 🐕)

Assuming you stay at a handful of sites in low season and are aged 60+ there is no reason not to join CCC unless you want to restrict your options.

Beautiful spring like day here, provided you kept on the move and out of the breeze!

Quite productive, 2 loads of washing line dried and now smells wonderful. Snowdrops, I didn't know we had any - must have survived a transplant from mum and dad's garden the autumn before last, potted up along with a beautiful dark hellebore a gift from a friend, ready for the move. I do hope the removal chap didn't count all the pots when we came out to give our quote 😱. Really good long dog walk. Followed by trip into town to get 1st birthday card for grandson - where does the time go? Enough birthday/anniversary/wedding day cards to take us well passed our move date.

Trying very hard to avoid the news, so full of sadness 😔 but it isn't easy. Even our local news has heartbreaking human accounts 🥲🥲

    Milliehull that course sounds interesting

Moulesy lovely photos and great walking weather, which hotel are yiu using? I'm starting a portfolio for future reference.

Good to read others news. Stay safe folks

Your course sounds interesting Millie, hope you enjoy it.

Hope NTH had a safe journey, Enjoy your trip.

Moulesy sounds like a great walk.

Ooh I'm jealous. Really! 2 subjects I find fascinating, Germany and the period you're studying. I loved reading about that period and European history at school and have kept  delving into it every so often in adulthood.

I remember, partly, reading a book about German artefacts at the British Museum, by Andrew Graham Dixon, I think, and it was full of wonderful descriptions of the state of Germany or the Holy Roman Empire as it was called at one time, as seen through their historical pieces of art etc., such as the Gutenburg Press. Some of the articles talked about obviously pre date your course but it does give you an insight as to how Germany came to be formed as we see it today.

I got the book out of the library but t doesn't seem to be in production at the moment but if you find a copy then it's well worth the read.

Millie. Just a correction to my last post.

The book is by Neil Macgregor and called "Germany - Memories of a nation"

As both Mr.Macgregor and Mr.Dixon worked at the British Museum I got a bit confused.

Good to read that Meg's op went well, Richard. Hope that the results come back negative. How are you doing yourself, well I hope.

Grand photos, M, there's  some grand walking to be had up on those hills.

Good to read that you were managed to share a takeaway  with your daughter, brue.

Easy tow up to Penrith and talking to the site owner we did the right thing by not coming yesterday,  as they had periods of horizontal snow. Only 2 other vans on the CL, which was a surprise  as we expected it to be full. Went for a walk through the village after lunch and spotted this. Now that is what I call a Motorhome!!

    Millie

It was in about the 1850's that my forebears emigrated from Germany to England. Not sure what caused them, or for what reason they decided  to emigrate. I am pretty sure at that stage Germany wasn't the unified country we know today? One book you might find interesting if you can get it from the library is called Heimat by Nora Krug. She grew up after WW2 but wanted to find out about how her relations, back in Germany, reacted to Nazi Germany and whether they were complicit in anything.

WN thank you very much, I have ordered a copy on Abebooks. We discussed Kathie Kollwitz today dates 1867 - 1945. She was a socialist artist. Very interesting life. I am not quite sure how she managed not to be arrested by the Nazis. There is quite a bit about her online.
