Been a lovely sunny day here, much better than recently.  We escaped all the strong winds, and only had a few   cm of snow which melted quickly.

DD and family came up here today to help me lift and cut the very heavy new Iroko worktop for our bathroom, so now the 2 of us can manage to move the smaller pieces without help.  Will take us several days to install it all as the tops need 3 coats of danish oil each side before installation.

I still have the plinth to finish, and the front of that will also need oiled, so going to take a good while yet.

Congratulations on the new addition to the family, Helen!

Hey TG. Thought you had gone for a very long lie down in a darkened room to get over the experience. 😂

Hope you had a quiet anniversary Millie. Another one who has been gallivanting this week.

Had a quietish day here in rainy and blowy North Wales. Managed a short stroll mid afternoon. No damage here but bins not collected yesterday and we've been told that food and recyclables won't be collected until next Friday. Rubbish bin now being collected Monday. Otherwise no real disruption here but seems to have been windy and raining for almost a week solid now.

Congratulations, millie, hope you managed to get that take away meal for your celebration.

Sorry to hear that your daughter is still unwell from Covid, brue, hope that her full recovery isn't too far away.

TG glad to read that you still in the land of the living and not succumbed to the pressure of looking after your grand children.😂

Sorry to hear of the loss of your tree and rambler, B2, but glad that you were able to get some of the debris cleared already.

Quite a surprise today!! After a dry start it began to rain around 9:30, and when I was out with Flyte an hour later the rain turned to snow. Before it finally stopped around 1:00 we had nearly 1/2" on the ground. However the sun came out and the snow had all but gone from the roads and pavements by the time we got back from our afternoon walk at 3:00. Just hope now that it doesn't freeze tonight as the ground is very wet. Looks as if is I will have to get someone to straighten up our tv Ariel mast.

    B2

Difficult to judge whether it was cheap, £16 each for two oldies? Obviously nothing like you would be charged for Disney. In truth young Mila was probably, a bit young!!! A couple of years and you won't keep her off the rides! She seemed far happier with her makeup kit from Primark where she could develop her skills on Vovó (Grandmother), perhaps a make up artist in the making? It's funny when she first started to talk it was a mix of English and Portuguese but since she has been going to Nursery its nearly all English, the exception being Vovó.

Last night we went to the theatre - Penrith Players - for the final night of a run of 4 - to watch a play written by an old friend. "The Mandrake" - an updated adaptation of a 15th century play. From the theatre's site.

"A Penrith Players world premiere, Machiavelli's classic farce, The Mandrake, like you've never seen it before. Translated, modernised and packed with raunchy humour and absurd schemes."

Funny and witty, ending with a final toast "To Wickedness".

The journey back down the M6  wasn't the pleasantest, but it was worth it for a night out.

Our Great Granddaughter, born last Wednesday, will be coming home tomorrow (I think, but I'm usually the last to know), still partly tube fed. Her parents are having help from Hospital at Home, but our Grandson can't be allowed with the tube feeding etc as he is colour blind and it's vital the correct coloured tubes go in the correct place. I knew he would never get a job with Bomb Disposal, but never imagined this.

A good night out Goldie, we've done quite a few local theatre visits as Covid restrictions eased. Hope your little gt grandaughter thrives at home now.

After the  storms a friend of ours, two villages away won't get power back till mid week so we think we're lucky (at the moment!) to have our power back on. Strong winds tomorrow will be another test, our part of the village is connected distantly to less reliable power source.

Good news on your great granddaughter Goldie and sounds like a great night out.

Still very blowy here, slight drizzle. Takethedogalong along that doesn't sound good weather-wise your way.

The site is behaving bizarrely today! I've posted on the server error thread. New twists of page disappearing and server error whilst posting. Post appeared when I got back on. Refreshed thus thread to like Goldie's post, taken to log in page, then wrong way signs, few back buttons find I'm logged in, Goldie's post liked....

    Stay safe folks

Ditto here Ttda. Thinking about boat building.undecided Forecast for rest of the week is more of the same with strong and gusty winds. Just read JKs warning in UK section noting that Chatsworth being evacuated today.

Just finished my click and collect order for tomorrow.

FiL had a similar problem with colour blindness Goldie. He was rejected from joining up in WW2 due to it but was able to serve as orderly in hospitals for wounded. Good job everything was in black and white in those days!smile He did have trouble with road work traffic lights and was often found waiting for lights to change when he could have driven through. Did affect him in many ways but didn't stop him working on making bombs for MoD, just not the wiring bits!!

It's awful here, the wind is roaring in, the power is flickering. So many flood warnings out too.

Our neighbour's temporary fix to his summerhouse roof is already losing the will to live. wink

Hope you all stay safe at home.

Not sure how to feel this evening Cheerful or cheesed off !

Why I hear you asking ~~ well found some screws for my Workshop {shed} roof but had to get the small Dyson out cos I knocked a packed box of washers of various sizes over , too blooming small for my aged paws, so Dysoned up & now I just have to take them out of the waste package  frown. then Whilst recharging vac and  drill batteries saw two neighbours tidying their property ~~ one of whom may well be round tomorrow a) checking my roof's fixing and b) hoping to find the flashing tape & sealant spray I offered for curing the leaks on his conservatory roof ! Well he knows the world is full of  " don't throw it away -- it might come in handy one day " collectors wink

Now I've got the Makita drills second battery on charge for another hour, then a  late snack & more REBUS to read --  do want to finish that book  and start something more cheerful  yell

Now copy Goldie cat & stay home tonight etc and ride out these blooming weather warnings please innocent

Congratulations to the new Grandparents H&T

Belated happy anniversary to MilleH and OH

Brue, sorry to hear your daughter is still unwell, hope she gets better soon.

Still catching up on all the posts, sorry for those who have storm damage.

Out for lunch today with our eldest and the grandkids, his OH and her parents. Kids back in school by teatime. Parents stopping up until next weekend as Mum now on school half term. Such a shame half terms didn't coincide.

Snow mostly gone now just the remains of snowmen around 😕

It has been a bit blowy here too, but not as bad as others by the sound of it. We managed our walks without getting very wet, in between some heavy showers. Our new neighbours move in tomorrow, so hope that it's dry for them.

Looking at the forecast for the rest of the week we may be postponing our departure for a day because of the prospect of high winds on Thursday.

Hope all those with storm damage are soon able to get it fixed.

We seem to avoided the worst of the weather again, we even got a couple of hours of sun this afternoon, in  between the lashing rain and the snow.

Managed to get some work done in the  bathroom, now have the wood for the plinth prepared, cut another bit that will make a top for the built in toilet  cistern, and have enough left to do the same when the second bathroom is being done.   Next thing is to get the plinth pieces prepared for installation.

Need some warmer weather, working on things out in the garage is rather chilly!

Not looked in for a while, so just had a quick catch up. Congratulations on the new babies.

The storm was bad here but apart from the wooden rose arch twisting, the windows blowing out in the shed and some branches down we were lucky. Neighbours lost roof tiles, fences and a greenhouse. The electricity has been off for one day and then on and off. A couple of old wind up camping lamps we found in the garage have come in handy. The wind has started up again this evening though.

Our daughters electric was off all day yesterday, I asked about the food in her freezer, she said,’It’s the fish that I’m really worried about’, I replied, ‘well bring it here and I’ll put it in our freezer’, ‘No Mum, our tropical fish! .. Her electric is now back on and it seems the fish are fine.

Indeed, warming it with my little electric fan heater I have out there is now out of the question since we got an e mail from our supplier with the prospective new fuel prices!

Prices have gone from 15p per kwh on our recently ended fix, to 23 p now, and from 1st April 28p, plus a standing charge of 50p per day!

Gas has gone from 2.45p previously to 4.8p now, and soon 7.4p plus a 27p daily standing charge.

Certainly a few wind generators will be under great strain now --  Windier in South Cheshire than earlier in the weekend I think. It is certainly much noisier at present --  hoping that is the major problem but two bird feeders and the bird table are down yell so i will need the tied on hat after breakfast surprised

Not so, Tombar, indeed there are more 'purples' around than ever now !! Mainly due to  service errors, essential maintenance and very slow uploading times.

Another sleepless night with gales, this wind probably worse as it has lasted longer. The garden covered in items that didn’t blow the first time and our fence is down. We can see wind turbines on the hills and they are spinning like tops.  At least someone is making some money out of this.

What is it about alarm clocks when you are retired? I spent most of my working life relying on and alarm clock to wake me up in time to get to work. Since retiring there has been little need for an alarm clock except for the odd occasion. So now when I set the alarm why do I wake up at least an hour before it goes off?

The reason for the alarm today was because we had arranged to take the motorhome in for its annual service but Margaret was far from happy with taking the van out because of the wind. I must admit that once I actual got outside, as opposed to looking out the window it was stronger than I thought it was.  I phoned the dealer and he was happy to delay until tomorrow because of the high winds. Fortunately he books us in for the week so it gives a bit of wriggle room.
