Awful damp and breezy day here, I am still painting a new shutter in our Cellier whilst OH is sanding down a very small oak coffee table which we have had for many years it was left in a house when we moved to Redditch 1976 so quite old althou8gh OH said it is machine made but it is all oak, glad he is in his shed for that job as sanding down and paint do not mix.

    Birds all fed.

Take care folks for the incoming storms due in the next couple of days.

Well! I thought I'd just check the weather and I don't think I've seen 72mph winds forecast in our area before, (Friday) that was a bit of a shock! Looks like we'll need to batten down the hatches and anything else that moves. OH is convinced we'll lose one of our trees, it's on a bank and has already been pushed to a jaunty angle due to our southwesterly aspect....we'll see if he is right this time....frown Keep yourselves safe everyone, I think tomorrow is ok but after that not so good.

Christmas is coming to an end here.

Yesterday we finished off the Christmas Cake and today I made a Turkey & Leek pie with leftover turkey from the freezer. I've some mincemeat and marzipan left, I've made some "Christmas Shortbread". It's slowly cooling and smelling of Christmas!

Beginning to get rough here in the east. Must have had a lot of rain overnight last night, very mucky, but dry, dog walk. Breeze has risen steadily during the day, very fine rain started about 4pm.  Friday we have 81mph gusts forecast.

Shock phone call yesterday from my close friend who lives in Scotland who lost her younger sister last Friday 😢 . She lost her husband Monday night, very unexpectedly.

Life's for living and we must do our best to remember that every day.

    Stay safe folks

So sad to hear, Bakers2, especially as the weather will make it difficult at least for caring folks to offer a shoulder to the relatives. At least modern technology allows many to do the 'virtual' visit at such times.

Can't say I blame the little one at all Helenlaughing

Sad news Bakers. One feels for someone in your friends position.

Mrs WN had to act as makeshift weight for MiL this morning when she took her to the library, which is just a short walk across the car park. She's so small that we worry about her going out in this sort of weather. She's still sensible so tends not to if possible.

Booked a couple of sites in the Netherlands for our Spring break so it now feels almost real. Normally wouldn't bother being abroad but the sites do get full over Ascension and Whitsun and being so close to each other this year it's likely a fair few folk will make their  long Public Holidays into longer ones.

As an aside I was surprised, but shouldn't have been, to see that our calendar doesn't show either Ascension or Whitsun. Even if they are not PHs I assumed that they would be mentioned.undecided

    H & T

Enjoyed the Marmite buns, just glad that I did not put anything sweet on 'em ~~  Most defo a savoury snack  wink  even a couple of varieties of cheese in the mix according to the label !

Wherenext --  As far as I can recall, the only place I've found details of PHols, especially the religious ones, is in the front pages of my diary.innocent  Also it seems that common sense amongst the Aged Ones is getting more common !!  My Sister actually waited for her first visitor on Tuesday to ask them to get her some milk and a newspaper  ~~ then made similar arrangements for the next couple of days, even tho' it's just across the road, at very most 50 yards each way.  surprised

I thought I was fairly clued up on avoiding scams, but almost fell for one this morning. Well I suppose I did partially but not on the critical info. OH received a text that looked like it came from the NHS saying she had been in contact with a positive person and to request a test kit. I went onto the web site which totally resembled the NHS one, filled in contact details for the test to be sent to. Then the next page was credit card details for the postage and the light dawned, it was a scam. So fortunately, if it was sending as I went along, the worst they have trawled is contact details to sell on. However, I wonder how many just carry on and enter card details. Be warmed. I googled it afterwards and in various shapes and forms it is a common scam, but not one I had heard about.

For that reason I’ve got to the stage where unless it’s completely unavoidable, I don’t buy anything online where it’s necessary to enter full credit card details. Most retailers will accept PayPal or Apple Pay which don’t require you to provide such details and offer 2 stage validation using a 2nd device.

If booking ferries via this club ,it is a matter of keying in your card details, via phone keypad only as I noticed a couple of days a go

Our Council issued a warning about that scam. It was on our local news and the BBC news app.

Just back from a walk. Breezy but fine but it has just this second started hailing.😅 Last night was a bit noisy, being close to the woods behind us. Sounds like it will be even noisier tonight.

Hope all of those caught up in the projected worst of the approaching storm stay safe.

It was fairly calm down at West Bay this morning. We thought we'd go out before we get stuck in! A very stormy last night and the local winds are now predicted at 84mph tomorrow breakfast time. Unfortunately we're in a sort of wind tunnel between the north and south coasts so there's not much chance of escape. Have been round securing a few things, at least it we lose power it will be light?! Good luck to anyone in the same situation.

So far we have not had anything as bad forecast. Yesterday was ok with some early rain but it cleared up and we managed dry walks, last night wasn't very windy as today has been fine. Like brue we went out in the car, a morning walk along by Ulverston Canal, lunch in the car, called in at local caravan dealer for a nosey ( lots of vans on show, and no shortage of second-hand ones for sale), and a couple of bits for our van, and then another walk along by the shore.

Booked another couple of sites, one CC and one CL, & waiting to hear about a third, only a couple more to sort out to complete the tour.

Sorry to read of all the bad news, and hope that no-one suffers damage from the storm tonight and tomorrow.

Done the Anti-Wind rounds  almost untouched by Dudley except the larger globe-type bird feeder where the globe keeps being blown up to the top of its steel hanger,  so used a small nylon zip-tie to stop its meanderings  wink  Looking at Brue's picture it seems like a fair wind has blown a load of footballs into the harbour already surprised

Hoping that everybody  is bedded down safely,  warm enough should power fail over night with 'phones and other similar battery devices fully charged. Hoping none of you need to use the Club's infamous " Essential Maintenance "  innocent  labelling tomorrow .

Well - I don't know what's happened to the weather forecast, but according to the BBC Weather website, we should have been in the middle of 50 mph winds for the last four or five hours.

There's hardly a breath of wind outside - plants and trees are hardly moving!

We had it quite bad on Wednesday night with storm Dudley we are right on the coast so was very windy the caravan was getting rocked around so had to put the day van right up beside it and park the car in front of it to block it from the wind which seemed to work and luckily the wind died down by around midnight. Woke up to a lot of ice outside today but no winds so not sure we have seen any of the storm Eunice so far. Got a birthday party to go to tomorrow night then second youngest son and I are off to the football on Sunday afternoon.

    Hope everyone enjoys your weekend

Not seen any of Eunice  and/or her associates this far -- 9.00 AM  - certainly I can see the water in the bird bath rippling in the breeze, so no ice there yet smile.

Thinking of Sunday Football, Francis,  I seem to recall that there was a bit of a kerfuffle about that when Moses and I were very young lads.  We were not  permitted to play organised footy outside our own parish. It took some pressure to allow Football leagues to start operating so folks were not disturbed by the yelping of us kids when we fell over on the rough, gritted side streets undecided.  It's quite amazing what thoughts come floating to the surface on these breezy winter mornings  innocent

EDIT --  Four (4) minutes for this post to appear  --  must still be asleep !!

Lucky you! BBC & ITV both off air, house is taking a battering and I can hear tiles lifting on the roof! Definitely the worst winds I can recall.
