What are you all up to

It has been a rather damp day up here too. All 3 walks so far have been in wellies and full wet gear, although thankfully the wind was not too strings and I could use a brollie, so that stopped me from getting soaked. One but of good news is that the service engineer phoned to say that he would be with us tomorrow, so we could well be back on our trips again before the end of the month.
Hope that you have no ill aftereffects from the tooth extraction, tda.

Glad to hear your move is finally settled B2, I do not think we would move from here unless absolutely essential, just could not face all the packing, and no doubt having to dispose of stuff!
Today we packed up some stuff of MIL's that our son wanted, plus most of our Edinburgh Crystal glasses which he said he would like to have, he might as well have them now, and took them over to him as it was our grand- daughter's birthday party. Tea, coffee and cakes all round, and lots of chatter.
They have just had their downstairs shower room and adjoining hallway area all done up, so that looks very smart. 11 years since they moved there, only one bedroom left to deal with.........now used as the spare room so not a priority.
Miserable weather all day, heavy rain and some flooding on the roads, and surprisingly heavy traffic, glad to be home again.

Miserable looking day in South Cheshire
.Grey Sky reflecting off wet grey rooftops and I've got a little shopping to do, so I will check with my Covid - Couple Neighbours & see if they require anything, but I have a feeling that they could be released from purgatory today
. I think that they will be staying at home tho', cos I'm sure the busy little terrors have used the time to slap a little bit of emulsion & gloss around
.Pleased to hear your week was not too bad, Goldie, sad as the loss of a friend may be, it can be even worse to see them deteriorating slowly over a long period.

Thanks for asking re tooth Nellie, all absolutely fine. Congrats, commiserations, and happy moving to others, such a lot to catch up on. Expecting heating engineer today here, but we have been busy as well. Bathroom progressing, so and so of a job getting a new shower shoehorned into existing plumbing, tiling, flooring, etc… but OH carefully planning and actioning each stage. In between lots of cycling, and creativity happening.
I am making my neice’s wedding head piece, and the bridesmaid’s hair adornments, along with some other jewellery for them, so this is keeping me busy at the moment. Bride to be came to have a look and is pleased so far, so that’s made me feel a bit easier. Hat designs are upper most amongst the lady guests as well, so we are all looking out for ideas and colours. Ages since I have been to a wedding, just hope OH is well enough to go, but if not, instead of staying overnight, I shall just pop over for ceremony. End of May, so should be nice.1 -
Sounds very creative takethedogalong will you post photos once complete? Got luck on the bathroom refit.
I'm hanging on the phone for DWP 25 minutes so far, takes 3.5 minutes to listen to ll the options - naturally none fit our case! Yet it's tge number of the recent letter received. We did write a letter, paid £6.85 but heard nothing last August. You can't say we are pushing them! As there was a review we foolishly assumed it would be looked at..... Might give up in a moment, not from lack of patience but because of the appalling music and endless 'thank you waiting, you can go to our website'. Wow actually spoken to someone, naturally not their department....... Can't transfer you but here's the number. Can I advise you of upcoming change of address? No you have to phone another department, no number given for that....
Right back to hanging on the phone, maybe tge next number will have a different tune??

Great weekend with daughter in East Grinstead with all the puppies, now 6 months old. Made a change walking in the forests in the area rather than nearly always on the beach, managed a great walk on Sunday before the rain swept in, miserable journey home but made it in time to see the last 30 mins of the rugby.
Today back on the beach brilliant morning but very cold and windy, managed to catch a lone kite surfer enjoying himself, not a sport i ever fancied.

Looks lovely Rufs. Very wet morning here, but it’s brightened up a bit. I could do kite surfing, I’d love a run down a Bobsleight course as well, but with a co-pilot. Not sure about all that flying around on a ski board though, I might be a bit past that now🤣
Productive waiting around for engineer for me, while OH walked the pooch. House all tidy, so I can happily spend a couple of hours doing some creative stuff now. I loathe housework, mainly because it gets in the way of other things.
Good luck with the phone calls Bakers, very annoying😡 I am on day four of trying to get a Blue Badge for Mum. Seems to require everything but a blood test and a pregnancy test, but hey ho, onwards we go.😡

I've just taxed the Ducato and I could almost hear them taking the tax out of my poor, sobbing Debit card
they don't seem to ask silly questions for that ~~ just give us your dosh NOW !As for the Blue Badge, Ttda, my late father went for one of those and, to my eternal disgust, the clerk had his counter on the fourth bleep / bleep floor of the office block. There was a lift but, of course, took some finding & accessing. I seem to recall giving him a short terse lesson in English Vernacular !!

Way hey success and only an hour of my life used...... DWP different tune on new number, not such a long hold before a human! Checked out their file, yes can see an over deduction there's £x to be returned, almost 4 figures 🤬. I'll process that now and advise no more to be deducted..... Great person really helpful. Couldn't give change of address as it happens instantly, call again when you move!
Quite productive in other calls DD's Council tax, I'm talking to her - yes you do online! But she did do it for me, thankfully. Water company sorted, and waste water company. Anglian who do our waste water with do both supply and dispose so that's set up too, you keep the same account number - how sensible! Eon not so good, can't do until nearer the time, do call back. They're not taking on new customers, can phone EonNext to see....... I did say how simple things were when the electricity board and gas board supplied everyone - think I heard her laugh as she said gosh you're going back! Yes I said so much simpler then...
Then had a conversation with Virgin, girl didn't seem to know difference between arrears and advance payments! Once we'd established ourselves and she'd checked with a supervisor when I asked why they'd be deducting May, it was easy. They'll send a box to new address for their equipment to be returned via a Collect Plus Point (new thing to us) when we've moved, any other time they've asked us to dispose of their equipment! There'll be charge if it's not done promptly. Thank you for your loyal custom over past x years.
Quite a productive afternoon.
I also renewed the TV Licence and like ABM was surprised how few hoops I had to jump through.
Now to think about dinner. It's turned really cold and we had a very heavy shower but otherwise been bright.

Err, That was the clerk I was edificating of course, not my Father
That would have been dry cornflakes for a month !!Pleased for you there, Young B2 -- its probably the way you hold your fist that gets 'em on your side !!

I did say yesterday that the day was atrocious but actually compared with this morning it was positively benign. Chucked it down all morning. I mean really chucked it down. Local flooding chucked it down! Had to go food shopping this morning as well. We changed clothes when we got home, and I don't mean I wore Mrs WNs either!😁
I'd like to say it brightened up this afternoon but I'd be lying.
At least it gave me time to do some prep work for tonights dinner.
No romantic candles here unless you count T lights as romantic!😂

Packed up in dry, and left the forest of Dean this morning. Journey pretty good, Stow on the Wold was busy, but then it always is.
I was back at work this afternoon so only time for a cuppa, left OH to empty the van which was absolutely filthy. He gave ut a quick wash down while I was at work.
Heard from son, apparently maternity dept in MK very busy so they were waiting for a phone call, not heard anything since so assume it isn't going to be a valentine baby.🤣

It started off a damp today but the sun came out mid morning and OH was able to get the washing out on the line for a couple of hours. Service engineer came and sorted the electrical problem, it was a duff charger! News one fitted and a couple of other jobs sorted, still a couple of others to get done later. Wallet has taken a both of a hit, though.
Spent much of the afternoon sorting out sites for our next trip. Managed to get 6 booked including one club site and one commercial site.

😥They had me in tears when I had to renew Dad’s for last time Brian.. So upsetting I didn’t bother getting one for Mum, but we really need it now, so I am trying to do it online.
On a pleasanter note, creativity continues, and we have heating again😁 Luckily a very easy, no cost fix, and should same happen again, we now know how to fix it.
Today’s efforts, half of wedding stuff, and something purely for me!😁

They are beautiful, very well done, and pleased that you got the boiler fixed too.👍
Glad to read of your successes, B2, and that you got home safe and sound H&T.
Lovely photo, Rufs, good to hear that you had a grand weekend away at EG.

Sorry to hear of the delay Helen. Your som and DIL must be disappointed as they probably got psyched up for today. Hope they don't have to wait too long. You sound as though you have had a very busy and productive day Bakers2. Your wedding pieces are really beautiful tda.
Son and grandson arrived from N.Ireland today. 11 year old grandson has shot uo since we last saw him and has really grown up since starting grammar school. Eldest son, daughter and grandchildren have popped over to see them. We have worked out a schedule of indoor events for the week in view of the weather forecast

Milliehull have a super family week. I expect the cousins were happy to catch up as well as the adults.
HelenandTrevor hope you're not kept too long before meeting your new addition.
Takethedogalong those look beautiful. Very satisfying. I take it that's decoupage on the shells? Very fiddly but very good. I assume the paper comes ready patterned?
Wherenext I assume you didn't walk past 'tge bungalow' today in such lovely conditions 😊

Just a heads up for anyone (like us)who stockpiles first and second class stamps ,,just been to our post office and when in conversation lady advised that use them up , in Early 2023 ,they will not be accepted , as digital stamps? With barcode are all that will.be valid
1 -
TDA what a skill you have they are superb I would not know where to start and the shells which we see a lot of them around here as folks put them on their backpacks as they are walking the St Jacques de Compostella way and a lot of items are sold with the shell symbol on, afraid I am not good at craft i have a few cross stitch items to do but forget how to do the stitches yet ok with machine sewing as I will be later in the year replacing the curtains in our caravan they are awful wrong colour and very slippery material and really not quite the right size for side windows and as I do not like the light coming in, so when in UK in May will get some new material.
Back to painting the new shutters today inside as weather awful after rain yesterday and more on the way, hope fully next week looks better and OH can hang the shutters and I can get some gardening done a lot of stuff to be cut down even a lovely new Yucca I got last year now turned white in colour due to the frosts in January so will get another but one that can stand the lower temperatures as we have a lot dotted around the village and they are all ok, the local nursery do them but only small pots and I need a bigger one so will look at other garden shops when out shopping next.
Hope folks enjoy family times this week and hope your new g/child arrives soon Helen.

The post office will swap any unused stamps for the new type FOC so no need to use them all

Thanks for the nice comments😁 Don’t I wish I was a good enough artist to be able to paint the designs. They are decoupaged, then carefully finished with gold paint. I have always collected shells, love them, but other than using them in garden, or as the odd ornament, never done much with them. But I rather liked this idea and they make nice earring/ring bowls. I gave the blue bird one away yesterday to my SIL. I could do with living a bit closer to the sea now.😁
Not hard. A single layer of a nice napkin, a well washed shell, some glue and some gold paint. Dry brush for pressing tissue into all crevices. You cannot peel the napkin back off the glue, and the glue dries quickly, so you need to work fast. Cut napkin fairly close to size.Work from middle out to edges.👍

I read that and I wasn't altogether sure what it meant but a look at the Post Office website showed the new stamps which have a sort of QR code alongside the Queens face, see picture below.
Just incase people don't know you can buy and print of postage online for all sorts of postage. Useful if sending cards abroad and saves queueing at the Post Office.

Thanks David. I didn't know that. Very useful. Do you just google Post Office?

Wherenext I assume you didn't walk past 'tge bungalow' today in such lovely conditions
No I didn't but did stroll past today. It was unfortunately as I thought. The road it is on tends to act as a run through whereas we live at the other end of the village in a quiet cul-de-sac. In addition there are three speed humps right outside the bungalow and knowing the previous occupants it would probably need quite a bit of upgrading. So, it's a no go. Not sure I can face it but we may need to do it soon.
Those new stamps will have music etc. accessible through the QR code. Bet the price doesn't stay unchanged!
Lovely work Ttda. Mrs WN sends her compliments as well.
Nice for you to see family from NI again Millie.
Glad you've got the problems sorted Ttda and Nellie.

This is the direct link to buying stamps online https://send.royalmail.com/ You can pay by card or PayPal. You obviously also need a printer. I still have some large sticky labels, 4 to a sheet of A4, which are just the right size for printing but appreciate that everyone would have those available. Even so they can be printed on to ordinary A4 and then stuck to the letter by tape. If I do that I use Scotch Magic Tape as its see through so you can stick it across the label.

We managed to escape for a couple of days, nice CL called Chygwyne Farm near Truro, serviced handstandings, all very pleasant. However the gods weren't really with us this time round. Our water pump stopped working so no hot or cold water, our cab radio and CD player which we rarely use developed a life if it's own (a quite noisy one) and then after our two short nights away we had a text from Western Power to say they hoped to get power back on at home by 12pm..thankfully that bit was successful. Luckily it hadn't been off for too long but it was news to us! We even found broken branches in our front porch so it must have been extremely windy.
Our daughter still isn't well from Covid but she is getting better.
Having a quick catch up on here but things seem out of sync on latest activity.

Oops, not too good brue, hope you are soon able to get the problems fixed. Glad to read that your daughter is improving, albeit slowly.
A second day that started rather dull but steadily improved. OH was able to get today's washing out and dried on the line again. Have started on polishing the inside of the van, hopefully will complete tomorrow, and then we'll be all set for the off, again.

Had my weekly visit to Elderly Sister this morning, found her eldest son there with Tilly, the demented whippet ~~ seemed to be unusually quiet this time - it's normally charging round the house like a mad thing !!.
I stayed a couple of hours after the dog took her owner for a good, long run ~~ through the rain !! Did a bit of shopping ( Morrisons then M & S ) but I seemed to be in a minority of about 40% in the Masked-up stakes, barmy folks !! got home to see the council refuse collectors had emptied both Grey recycling as well as the Green or Brown garden / waste food bins so put the lot away for neighbours as well. Opening one gate I found my Covid19 riddled neighbours standing by their back door -- nicely distanced from me but, sadly, not from each other
well he has tested ok for two days now but his lady is still a "Two - Liner " alas ! They won't be happy bunnies now 'cos t'Alex have gone down 2 -- 0 to Wigan -- think I'll keep away from them till they calm down again !! # # We are bouncing along on the foot of the table # #
