What are you all up to

Morning
Crikey, Dudley was just a breeze to what we're getting now (09.45) We've bailed from the van and taken refuge in the office! My weatherstation isn't at all happy, we've had 88mph so far at 8.00 but it's getting stronger. Was going to take a look around site but it's not safe with branches and stuff launching everywhere.
Can't believe there's folk moaning on social media that sites are cancelling bookings today.
Stay safe folks

Gusting 50 knots (58mph) here and have just heard on TV that a 92 mph gust registered at the Needles. Peak wind is supposed to be around lunchtime here. You know it's windy when the mudflats in the harbour have breaking crests on them .

Yes, some folks should be certified for their own safety. These wind speeds are genuinely scary, the big gusts sound like a train coming. We’re completely exposed to the SW and just hoping the roof can take it.

Blimey, NINETY SEVEN MPH.

You'll be in a worse position than us, JK. The gusts are strong on the S coast but not too bad in between. We're just out of the red zone but you're right in it. Take care out there.

Just learnt a new term…..’roof chatter’ - wind strength partially lifts concrete roof tiles and then drops them making a loud knocking noise. Our lounge is on the first floor under a shallow pitch roof, so we can clearly hear all the action. 🥴

Bude has lost its town centre tree
luckily it went the right way.0 -
Like TW we are just 'on the edge' of the Red Zone and, having had as bad, if not worse before, prep was minimal just moving and lying down a few things.
I was surprised to get a call at 0750 saying "we are on the way with your heating oil" but driver said his journey from Redruth was uneventful and traffic much as he would expect on a Friday morning.
Just seen the sad pictures of the trees blown down at the garden at Belle Vue in Bude, our usual pasty eating/rest spot after a walk round town.

Yikes, that was some fall. What a shame.
It honestly hasn’t been too bad here and not as ferocious as the time our fence came down a couple of years back. I’d not like to be at the top of the hill though!

We've nothing here on the east coast and the BBC Weather site is still predicting 70mph by 1600. According to the same site it should be blowing 60 mph by now. It's weird.

That’s bad. The Redruth area was obviously worst affected than us.
It's eased considerably now but there’ll be some sad tales on the news later.

We've got plenty of wind in Essex 😂. It's even blown my hyacinths out of their pot despite being tucked in between bigger pots.
Family visit for this afternoon cancelled until Monday, so I can do more sorting of paperwork! How does it build up soooo much? I'm a tidy filer as we go!
Dry dog walk very early for us as the 7am news said we were now in red zone from 10am. Dora not keen on the wind before, 8am, up her tail... She's very subdued indoors and then a strong gust causes an on guard moment and bark. The lights are flickering 😱.
Saw our neighbour out looking at his roof!
Stay safe folks

Just got our power back on, Western Power have been very good with communications, still a lot in Somerset without power. Neighbour has lost his summerhouse roof, will go and pick the bits out of our garden when things die down and hand them back to him....
Hope you are ok Jolly Kernow, it certainly has been a very windy week with this end bit coming in to shake us all about!

MOT done and passed at local independent garage,
I especially asked for them to check track rods as Last years MOT at Halfords they gave a warning?
Nothing was found amiss today and examiner was very sceptical about Halfords report

I think the winds have hit a bit later than thought which might have helped with possible flooding due to high tides.
There's reports of the Needles having 122mph gust!
Definitely a lot windier now than earlier on so looks like it's marching up the country.
Despite calls for people to refrain standing on sea walls etc. to take photos there are still enough idiots out there willing to lose their life and put others in danger just for the hell of it. The RNLI are great but I'd be sorely tempted if anyone went into the sea from there to just leave them. Numpties.
As for what JK said about members moaning on social media about cancellations that also beggars belief. Pillocks (excuse my French).

It’s just hitting us up here in South Yorks now, but nothing like down South. Roof is damaged on O2, church in Wells has lost top part of spire, and Sennen Cove lifeboat station has lost its roof. So glad we had our big beech trees reduced in height a couple of years ago, next door’s tree is very active🙏
Keep as safe as you can one and all!

Getting a bit 'breezy' here and has been for the last hour but certainly nothing like the 70 mph showing on the BBC weather site.
Had some not-so-good news this morning. Took Meg to the Vet's for her to have a look at the last remaining abscess on her neck now that it has settled down a bit. The Vet last week didn't like the look of it and I didn't this morning. The Vet thought that it's probably a tumour - certainly not a normal cyst - so she has to go for surgery next Thursday. It's going to be a worrying week until she's back with us safe and sound. The chances are that it's benign - but we won't know that until the lab has done its stuff.

I've just lost a fence panel. To be honest 3 of them are rotten and would have been replaced later this year anyway so i'm not too bothered.
Could be worse, next door has lost 3 fence panels.

Lost a large tree, the one that has the beautiful rambling rector through it. Luckily it seems to have missed nextdoor's very large wooden workshop. Being kept in place along the fence top by shrubs and the their tree, the other bit is in our garden resting against the fence. Locked shed door blown open, found the key and OH 'encoraged' it back into its hole, the hinges bent I suspect! Barricaded it with heavy garden furniture. Shed felt flapping about annoying the dog as she thinks it's a cat! Glass top of the cold frame gone 😱 and lids have left the waterbutts. All collected up but definitely wind coming along side of the house and whirling around when it gets to the solid items!
Could do with all these extra jobs along with organising our move.... Still we're here to tell the tale. Got a man 😉 coming round to look at tree when he gets home, he lives opposite thankfully.
Do your best to stay as safe as you can. It isn't quite as constantly blowy as it was thankfully. Hopefully the worst has passed 🤞

Wow!!! what a day 100mph+ winds off the IOW, trees down , fences down, and some people are going to have to do some digging before they can get into their beach huts, ours has plenty of shingle on the patio but sea did not break in. Dogs knackered after a great afternoons walk, and no people, it was very windy, walking West to East was fine but walking back was a nightmare, but much calmer now, power off for a couple of hours but all ok now.

We've got trees down here too..... and it's reportedly not as bad here in the Midlands. It seems that many are heeding the advice to stay at home - roads were quiet this afternoon. I carried on with my usual Friday afternoon U3A Choir practice, but numbers were down this week. I would have cancelled, but it is really difficult to contact large numbers of people, when many of them don't pick up emails regularly. We had a good practice though, with reduced numbers.
I've taken the rare decision to cancel Abbey Choir Practice tonight. It's quite windy out there and not very pleasant..... and the news that a church in Wells has lost it's spire today, didn't exactly encourage me to venture down to the Abbey!! A date with a bottle of wine felt more attractive. 🤣🤣🤣
Stay safe everyone.

Our Grand-daughter finally arrived this morning @ 1.13am weighing 8lb9oz,

Had a facetime call with Mum,Dad and baby Serena, all doing well but obviously tired. Looking forward now to meeting her properly and having a cuddle.
Very windy day, local news reported that the roof of a building had blown off onto the railway near the station, so no trains.
Sorry to read the news about Meg R&R, hope things go well.

I think that we have been fortunate, having missed much of the storm. Managed to get our walks in without getting very wet although it was a bit of a struggle against the wind at times. Had to go out in the car to the dentist for a check up for us both, and then for me to spend nearly 3/4 hr in the chair getting a couple of fillings repaired, one having fallen out as I was having breakfast this morning.
Have now booked all but one of the sites for our next trip, to Scotland this time, with 7 CLs, 2 CC sites and 1 commercial one.
Congratulations to all concerned on the birth of your grand daughter, Helen. Good to read that mother and baby are doing fine.
