Congratulations to all concerned on the safe arrival of your granddaughter. Hope a real cuddle comes round quickly 👼👶

It seems the wind is beginning to calm down at long last. Still very chilly outside! Tree guy hopes to help tomorrow or early next week but thinks us all pretty stable for now. There's been lots of damage around the city posted on fb photos

    Stay safe

Lovely news for you all Helen, hope you soon get to see the new arrival!

Hope you get your tree sorted B2. It's been quite a day here, some won't have their electricity back till tomorrow evening, we were very lucky not to have such a long wait.

Sorry to hear about your worries with Meg R&R.

Enjoy your night at home DSB, I think many will be doing the same!

Nellie, lucky you to get to the dentist and get things fixed. I have to wait till May for fillings, I had a look around for alternative dentists but we just don't have any. Hope your next trip goes well.

Surprised to get on here, it's been impossible most of the time!

Have a good weekend one and all. smile

Brue, we've been fortunate with our dental practice, although we are with Denplan. Our long time dentist retired and passed on (sold?) the practice to a young couple who have retained, and added to, his patient list. We have always been able to phone up, when needed, and got an appointment without any trouble. In fact they will contact us and fit us in earlier should a cancellation come up, as they have done for our hygienist, check-up, and treatment this time.

Thanks for the good wishes for our next trip. Have you anything planned for the near future?

Delighted to hear of Serena's arrival  --  typical Lady  late as usual  smile  but very welcome nontheless  !!

Had a phone call just before evening meal __  my shed roof  was waving Bye Bye  surprised

But with a bit of help from the phonecaller it's all back, screwed down  with  plans to be fully checked over & bigger & better washers used tomorrow.  Poor job originally ~~ only lasted 30 or so years 'cos I was in a rush then as well !!

Lovely news Helen - bet you're so excited and pleased that all are well.  I can remember our first granddaughter being born - she's 16 now - at College with 'A' levels looming on the horizon.  Where did that time go!!

We certainly were lucky yesterday with the weather - it did eventually blow a bit but nothing like what was forecast. It was weird that the Humber Bridge was closed because of 80 mph winds and it isn't that far from us as the crow flies - but we had nothing like that here.

Thanks for all your kind wishes re Meg - I'm sure she'll be fine but it's a bit of a worry.  I think the worst bit for her will not being able to eat anything before the Opfrown

A nice calm morning here although more strong winds on the way. Will go on a search in the garden for the remains of neighbour's summerhouse roof tiles etc, the soft type but quite heavy if you get hit by one!

Glad you saved your roof ABM.

Nellie we were Denplan too, now transferred into a similar scheme run by our dentist, I'm also on the cancellation list but I'm probably one of many!

Only short breaks planned except a visit north which will take longer.

Was surprised to get on here, will now get off! wink

Calm morning here too, thankfully. Tree man coming about lunchtime. It will leave a hole in the fence, nextdoor's, but chatting to him by text he has an old pallet which will do the job for now. Was too rough and cold to chat yesterday and too early when I got tree text!

Got someone coming to look at shed felt, just needs reattaching I think but a bit flapping about is doing the dog's head in. Something alien on my territory! Had to close the blinds yesterday, still guarding from dining room or kitchen through the conservatory - just in case....

Lots of damage related requests on neighbourhood social pages. Not found anything that isn't ours in our garden thankfully and I think our losses stayed within our boundaries.

Be good to get straight before next forecast dose comes along.

Thank You for all the Congratulations and good wishes,  I tried to post replies last night but got "Essential Maintenance "

Had another chat with son when he got home last night, Mum and baby both doing well, they are hoping to come home today.

Much quieter day here, sunny first thing but now clouded over, no obvious damage here, thank goodness. Will have to get on and finish knitting the baby cardigan,  I have had to unpick and start  again a few times laughing

Bakers2 hope the "tree man " sorts the fallen tree without any problems.

     Morning

Well, we're thankfully through that. High winds are back now but only gusting around 40!! We lost power (and water as the mains is on an electric pump) yesterday morning. Western power were really good with their comms and we were back on at 23.00. We bedded down in the office with a dvd and a little winewink. Been assessing damage around site this morning, one service point wrecked, two electric bollards broken off at the base and worst of all our lovely old monterry pine laying down. Where's me saw!

Wonderful news, H&T, congratulations and trust all are doing well. Love the choice of name, really apt as a contrast to everything else that was happening yesterday - just think, they could have decided on Eunice! surprised

R&R, keeping our fingers crossed for Meg, hope things turn out ok. As you say, always a worry when they're not well.

We missed the worst of the storms yesterday, just one fence panel to replace which probably needed doing anyway. House just down the road had a lucky escape when a huge tree crashed down on their  (detached) garage but missed the actual house by a matter of feet.

We were supposed to be on our hotel break in Malvern, but, fortunately they allowed us to change to next weekend - within 48 hours and free of charge (why don't the club let you do that? laughinglaughing)

Sorry to here about your site damage JK and remember the tree such a shame, as to bollard damage I have a photo of one taken at Crossways when two Sika deer stags were having a fight the bollard lost that one.

    Take care folks.

Nice and sunny here but a bit chilly and washing out on line.

Lots to catch up on. Congrats on the new baby, hope things go well with Meg R&R, and commiserations to those with storm damage, but glad everyone seems to be unhurt.

I came home early from Mum’s yesterday, left her happily watching the Curling, safe and warm. Had an afternoon finishing off a few house chores and craft projects, while OH did more to bathroom. It’s coming along nicely now, tiles back in place on wall, grouting I think will be next. That might be my job. Very windy yesterday and lots of rain showers, but no damage locally thankfully. It’s a dark morning here, raining again.

Great news H&T, congratulations from me to to all.

Largely escaped the storms of the past few days, although there was a good few inches of snow at Consett yesterday first thing but all gradually melted away throughout the day.

We had a very anxious day yesterday. Youngest son and family were flying back to N.Ireland from East Midlands airport.  Eldest son decided to drive them to the airport rather than OH for which we were very thankful. After much discussion between 2 sons it was decided to go for it. Luckily that journey went very well and they were delivered to the airport in good time and eldest son arrived home safely. Unfortunately their flight was delayed by over 4 hours. Luckily OH had given them some cash for contingencies so they were able to have a meal while they waited.  Finally arrived home after midnight. However we had a wonderful week while they were here. We all visited the Urban Art exhibition at our local museum where there were works by Banksy, Damien Hurst, Tracey Emin and others - very impressive. Also went to the cinema to see Death on the Nile which was excellent. Apart from all of us there were only about a dozen others  in there. We finished with a lovely family meal on Thursday evening to celebrate all the February birthdays (of which there are many!) and our wedding anniversary. It is over 2 years since we have all been together.

As to damage - the felt blew off our shed roof (again!), a few fences down around here - thankfully none of ours and our side run is knee high in leaves - where did they all come from?! There are a few trees down around the city as well but have not heard of any injuries thankfully.

I hope all goes well for Meg next week R&R. Commiserations to all those with storm damage but hope everyone is OK.

It is our wedding anniversary today but after such a busy week we have decided not to go out but will probably have a Chinese takeaway. Also the weather is foul. Very wet and cold.

Happy Anniversary to you both Millie, sounds like a very nice week with the family, must have been special to get everyone together!

Just visited daughter this morning, she is taking longer to get over Covid than we hoped so I'm trying to relieve the situation a bit!

The weather has deteriorated again so not doing much else today.

Again sorry to hear your daughter taken a long time to recover brue hopefully she will soon be on the mend, our friends husband is also taking a long time nearly three weeks now but she sent a message yesterday that he seems a bit better also he has not been sleeping at all and she has tried everything bar( her expression of a lump hammer) they are very active so think he is not happy not being able to do things.

Well just had a fun not hour and half OH went to use the tap no water so check water meter in the field that was going round so went into our Cellier only to find a filter in the water system had burst so water everywhere heyho so things moved and mopped out good job only a concrete floor, a lot of things in OH's large shed and offending filter system removed some stuff still drying outside and I was only in the Cellier about 1 hour before and not problems then but all sorted now and drinking tea and coffee. At least the washing is dry.

We're having a quiet day today.... After a rainy morning, this afternoon the sun has put in an appearance, with some blue skies.  Looking forward to going to the NEC show on Wednesday... and thinking about our next journey out in the caravan.... looking like a visit up to Barnard Castle..

Happy anniversary milliehull. Glad you had a lovely family week. I'm so glad we weren't flying yesterday, especially watching some of the Heathrow landings!

Brue sorry to hear your daughter's still not well. It goes to prove we do need try our very best not to catch it. Hoping she continues to improve.

Redkite good job it wasn't too long before you discovered the water issue.

Very chilly here but thermometer not low it seems like wind chill. On and off cold heavy rain.

Shed roof felt reattached by local guy this morning, no need for new felt thankfully. Tree surgeon here and almost finished. Luckily no damage to nextdoors fence or shed. Grass is complete mess but extremely grateful to our fantastic neighbour for fitting us in. He's been hard at it since 0630 this morning . Removed dangerous stuff before ours be didn't clear other stuff completely so will have to return to those in the week. Once all our big stuff has been moved I'll have to do some tidying of borders sadly crocuses have had to be sacrificed but it will wait until its drier underfoot. He's managed to retain the ivy and that will cover the gap left and you'll hardly know there was a tree. Not having the stump ground out, as it will make the garden open so not good for the dog or incoming toddler. So expensive day 😪  but we are here to tell the tale!

Started on arrangements for new abode, contacted local cleaners re a deep clean as we arrive. Very favourable responses and costs compared to here, so need to check out their reviews. Got them from the local fb page recommendations so hoping we'll be alright. But most importantly found a reflexologist and booked an appointment for the week after the move. I've been indulging myself with  treatments every 3 week since before Christmas. I'm worth it and it certainly helps!

Went to Gulliver's Land in MK today, yes in the pouring rain!!!! Four adults accompanied by a three and a half, coming on four year old for whose benefit it was meant to be for. Can't really blame her for her lack of enthusiasm as despite being wrapped up she was still cold. We probably only stayed an hour and she only went on one ride! It was actually surprising how packed the place was. The icing on the cake (not) were the abysmal catering facilities which were more crowded than usual because of the weather. We left and went elsewhere for a much needed warming coffee! The last theme park I went to was to Disney Land Paris in 1992, now that was professional.

Oh DavidKlyne sounds like an awful experience, and I don't suppose it was cheap! It's been very cold as I kept finding out taking tea to the workers....... who would engage in conversations whilst I stood in indoor clothes - I didn't learn!

Milliehull my beautiful rambling rector has gone too, in fact the tree guy said it was that that held it all together and meant less damage. It made it harder for him because as you know they're vicious things!!  Sad that the new owners won't see its splendor. Everytime I think I'm getting order out of chaos something like yesterday puts a spanner in the works! Please tell me you're not contemplating moving 😱😱😱?

I'm back laughing its been an interesting week with the gKids. This is the longest we have looked after them for. No problems, teens very well behaved, no major dramas. They were good company (when they were up and awake) learned lots about them we didn't know. They can eat for Britain, talk the hind legs of a donkey and sleep like the dead laughing great for sorting out electronic devices smile so a good week was had, even managed a couple of days out going for walks, which they said they enjoyed and had fun.

Haven't caught up with everyone's news yet but will try in the next day or so.

Hope everyone survived the storms. We have been very fortunate that the Dudley hardly touched us and Eunice just dumped snow on us. Snow still around but not as bad as yesterday, other than if froze overnight. Roads are clear around here and pavements are mostly clear of snow and ice, snow is only in the gardens and open areas.

Weather brightened up this afternoon so got ouf for a nice walk with the dog. Finally finished baby cardigan, pleased with the result just hoping it fits!

Tammygirl glad you survived your week with the teenagers.
