When I woke at 6 am I was thinking the same, we were due to take our MH in for its habitation service, and the wind sounded horrendous and my weather app was showing 60 mile per hour gusts. We decided to drive across to the storage, which is very open and see what the conditions were there, as everywhere else was likely to be better. Fortunately by 9:15 the gusts had moderated a bit and I was happy enough to drive it the 15 miles to the dealer. The route wasn’t that exposed and the journey was thankfully uneventful. I wouldn’t have fancied trying any exposed routes.

I only use an alarm when I need to get up.  The reality is, I'm always awake before the alarm goes off... except there is 'a law' that tells me, the time I don't set it is the time I will oversleep!! 🤣🤣...

However, you'll notice I used the word 'alarm' and not 'alarm clock'.  My alarm is either on my phone or on the 'Alexa' in the bedroom..... or frequently both... 😀.  Haven't used an alarm clock for years....

We, also, seem to have had more prolonged gusts of wind over the last 24 hours with a very poor nights sleep.

Had to get up fairly early to get to Tesco for our Click and Collect. Mrs WN opened the passenger door, got out and was promptly assaulted by said door due to a gust of wind blowing it, so a bruised shoulder and plenty of new words heard that I didn't know she knew.surprised

Sun came out this afternoon so we did our library run into town and I needed to make a couple of international bank transfers so called into the building society. Not many people in and the cashier was in training, fortunately for her with a supervisor on hand as  I handed over the details. Took some time but we got there. Got home and sods law prevailed as there was an email request for another one. It can wait a day or two.

I do actually set the alarm on my phone and have done since I had a phone capable of performing that function. But, the app on the phone is still called a clock and when I set the time it is still called an alarmwink

We use our phones for alarms if needed, occasionally use the van alarm if away and need to leave a site early.

Have to congratulate British Gas for finally turning up today to do our boiler service after a three year wait, no matter that it was the wrong day, luckily we were in and just sorting out the early food delivery and untidy kitchen...As a bonus the service engineer was being "audited" so all the correct procedures were overseen by a manager. He did try to ring first apparently but I had decided to catch up with our elderly neighbours who moved to Wales last year and it was a long chat!!

The wind finally died down late afternoon, it has been like a week spent on Wuthering Heights, roaring down the chimney day after day. Hope things are better for everyone else, including Mrs WN, that must have been painful.

Not a bad day here sunny but cold, little breeze but that's all. OH been fitting a new security light at the back of the house the PIR had broken on the previous one. Then it was putting a new shaft on the snow shovel, he broke the other one a few days ago. Couple of other jobs in his shed + a bit of a tidy up.

I meanwhile was sorting out draws and wardrobes. Managed to sort some things out for Lanzarote next week and had a very nice find of £50 in the pocket of one of my cropped trousers surprised The thing is they were clean and not worn so why was there money in the pocket, OH thinks I may have 'hid' it there when away in the vanundecided

Managed to clear out a pair of sandels and a couple of pairs of leisure trousers that's seen better days, still got way to much clothes though. OHs to be tackled in a few days.

WN hope OHs shoulder isn't to painful.

Have a good trip TG, £££s in a pocket, that was a lucky find!

After my grumble on here about BG we had an email this evevning apologising and offering us compensation (we had been paying a yearly service charge) so "all's well that ends well" (I hope!) smile

I noticed that it wasn't too painful to do some painting with this afternoon but seemed to get very painful the nearer we got to washing the pots and pans time.🤣 Fortunately I saw through that one. She's fine thanks, and Brue, for asking. She's from hardy stock. Don't tell her but I checked the door after she got out.

Now if it had been me....😥🚑😀

Have a good trip next week.

Definitely been the most wind morning we've had during all 3 storms, but fortunately it has stayed dry and during the afternoon the sun came out and the winds has died down. However the forecast for the next 3 days is for more strong winds and winter showers, so we have postponed our departure until Friday.

Hope Mrs WN's shoulder is not too painful, and that you both are able to get a good night's sleep tonight.

Brue, we are with Scottish Power for our gas service, and their contractor has been very good with dates booked over the phone for the service.

Well I'd say our winds were as strong as Friday's. I was taken unaware by a gust whilst dog walking in the open. I would have said I had sufficient ballast! The sound of it through the trees was like a very full waterfall/oncoming train.

Wherenext poor Mrs Wherenext, I'm glad she found some decent vocabulary to express her shock and pain. Sounds most uncomfortable.

We must have had considerable rain as the rivers were full and running very fast.

    Good find Tammygirl.

I hope your offer of money was sufficient to cover British Gas' tardiness brue.

Dog went for her penultimate groom with current groomer, she looks lovely and smells wonderful. We would normally have lunch in the nextdoor tearoom, but I realised yesterday the appointment was Monday - and they're not open. Rectified that swiftly by booked lunch at the pub in the village. And very nice that was too. We ate early and were one of only 2 occupied tables until we'd almost finished when several more folk arrived, but there was still plenty of space.

Arrived home a few moments before our guests, OH's cousin, hubby and her dad for a catch up which was supposed to have been last Friday and postponed by Eunice. I did wonder earlier if Franklin might postpone it too. Bonus of rearranging was cousins sister could come, she lives in Hampshire but no hubby as he was scheduled to land his plane as they were sitting down to dine, who was up for Sunday family lunch to celebrate their dad's (OH only remaining uncle and baby of the family) 90th tomorrow. Luckily I'd got things organised before we went out so a great afternoon of chat and laughter.

Much quieter outside now but not a lot warmer, although not really winter cold.

We had quite a bit of wind during the night, or so OH told me, I slept through it all.

Lovely sunny day today, one of the best  so far this year, quite pleasant working in the garage.  All plinth timbers now made to correct size and passed over to OH for applying the Danish Oil.  They need 3 coats all round, so will not be ready to use till Wednesday.

A nice morning here.                                        Bakers2, the BG payment was reasonable, we had already had two small part refunds but this didn't help the actual situation of a potential danger with a long term unserviced boiler etc. All resolved amicably.

That has been the problem here Bakers2, we back onto a wood and the trees constantly all swaying in the high winds are so incredibly noisy it’s hard to believe. Spoke to an elderly neighbour yesterday and she said she hadn’t slept for nights due to the noise. I slept very well last night, OH has insisted that I go back on my prescribed ‘anxious’ pills. They also act as a sleeping tablet. I do try to do without them but I’ve barely slept for 6 nights, with all that is going on in the world and family issues playing on my mind in the wee small hours laying awake. Insomnia is a problem.

Visit to the hairdresser planned for today, they had to shut for three days due to electricity cuts but even though they are busy catching up my appointment scheduled to go ahead. OH not so lucky. He was due a shingles jab today but the Dr surgery phoned to cancel, it seems all the vaccines were ruined when their fridge went off during the electric cuts.

A bit of blue in the sky today.  Fingers crossed we've seen the worst of the Wind...  Still got a flood warning here locally.  When we get a flood it usually just the bit immediately by the river.  Only very occasionally affects the shops and residences.  Fortunately we're a bit higher up....

still blowing a gale in LOTS, and the wind and high tides has completely transformed our beach area but fortunately not too much serious damage, lots of fencing and walls to be re-built, some flooding in the low lying areas near the beach and a few houses now have mini lakes for gardens.

Not a great picture this, but just one of the cruise ships slipping back into Southampton this morning through a very large rain cloud, i bet the people onboard have had a very rough few days frown

Early start again this morning. Mrs WNs car in for service and MOT so I drove the other car to pick her up as not a day for tarrying around shopping centre.

Still quite windy with frequent squally showers so we came home . Into the library again this afternoon as a brand new book that they specifically ordered for me arrived unexpectedly. Then off to pick the car up.

Looks likely that we'll manage to get away for a break in the caravan from the end of this week. Haven't booked anything yet but will do tomorrow once I've seen the forecast.

More money going out. It's a one way street at the moment. Have to renew Mrs.WNs car insurance as well tonight. Plus just paid the balance for the short break for MiL at the end of March. HHA subscription due next month. Might have to turn the heating off when we get away to save some money. Dig out the hot water bottles for MiL

    Afternoon

Well, this afternoon we have blue sky and some sun! We've just had the chairs out and sat (with coats on) and had a beercool

Been surveying the site, hopefully no more damage to come. We all have a spreadsheet from head office to fill out with damages etc. It's really shocking to see just how much damage has happened all across the network country wide. I guess insurance premiums will go up a bit after this!!  I was chatting with the tree chopping up man yesterday, he can't get to us for at least 2 weeks there's that much to do. Luckily we're time rich on that score as we don't open until the end of March. I think some sites that open in 2 weeks time are going to struggle to be ready and safe.

Managed to achieve what we couldn't do yesterday and actually get the motorhome to White Arches for its annual hab service and MOT. They normally loan us a car but as I was reading the form which I had to sign it said are you over 18 and under 75. I am certainly over 18 but as of my last birthday no longer under 75 which caused a bit of a predicament as to how we were going to get home, WA being about 22 miles from home and not on any direct transport links. Fortunately our son Simon was working from home so was able to pick us up and take us home. Hopefully booked for the return trip on Saturday! It seems if I want to loan the car in future I will have to buy a temporary insurance policy! First look at that suggested about £61 for the 5 days! Answers on a post card if others have any better suggestions.

Sat at my computer this afternoon and thought I had something in my tooth only for the bottom of one of them to sheer off. Goodness knows what has caused that but yet another CTer en route to the dentist! Tried to ring to make an appointment but surgery closed today for staff training!

DK, hope you are able to fix an appointment tomorrow. I must admit I was fortunate when my filling fell out, already having an appointment that week.

Guess Mrs WN's car passed it's MOT. Hope that she was able to get a decent night's sleep last night, even with her injured shoulder. Any idea of where you might head of to for your trip away in the van?

I think we have been lucky in this area, as we seemed to have missed the worst of both the wind and rain. Today started out a bit wet again after rain over night but thankfully the sun came out and we were able to get some jobs done and things into the van in the dry.

Weather lovely here today after a frost sun came out cleared a bit of mist and got to 17/18C wow all washing done and caravan has had a good airing and all ok in it, a trip to the tip pm as we had some old carpets  which got a soaking with the water leak on Sunday so we have bit the bullet and got a water softener coming tomorrow so that will keep OH busy for awhile although he has already started the work with some plumbing bits he had already got, he spent about 3 hours the other night going through pros/cons before deciding which one to get and he has tested the water it is really hard here and more so with extra treatment with covid about.

Just  come in after sitting outside for coffee and tea lovely really warm best day of the year so far.

    Take care folks.

As the motorhome is in for its annual service I have today pressure washed all the paving, surprising how dirty it gets although I tend only to do it every two years. Goodness how much water I have used!!!

Got an appointment for my broken tooth on Monday. Could have had one today but would prefer to wait for the dentist that did our check ups. There have been lots of changes at our dentist and our regular one, who we had for years, has left the practise. We got so used to her that both of us were comfortable with her but we now have to start a new relationship.

    Afternoon

Interesting that you mention water use when jet washing DK., they do drink it up!  I do all the service points and all around reception building, pathways each season before we open. When I did it last March (new site to me) I read the water meter directly after and found I'd used 12 units. Five service points and reception took 11 hours in total. It doesn't look as bad this time, good job for a rainy day, the car might get lucky toosurprised

We went on a water meter in 2002 when we intended to spend 6 months a year on the road, thus saving money. 2 years later we moved OHs parents in to look after her father and regretted having had the meter installed. Too late to have the decision reversed. So no pressure washing here. I look on in envy at the 2 neighbours who love nothing better than pressure washing their cars once a week.

Another very windy day here with showers mixed in. We're forecast some snow tonight. Feels cold enough now. Haven't booked anything yet for going away but plans in hand. Had our first experience of a shop full of people without masks on today. Fortunately it was B&Q, near Chester, which tends to be huge and it wasn't packed. We're still the wearing them type, especially as its still compulsory in shops in Wales.

We felt the same a couple of years ago DK when our dentist of many years retired. New just about bedded in now but we've both noticed that she tends to be reactive more than proactive. If the previous spotted a potential problem she dealt with it there and then. Hope it goes well when you get it done.

After the storms our windows are covered in a sort of muddy spray, don't know what was in the air but everywhere looks dirty. We're on a meter so we're fairly careful but seem to be able to do occasional pressure washing and garden watering without too much concern. Just about to order another water butt, we do use these everywhere we can.

How nice to be out in the sun RedKite! It has turned distinctly cold here and we might see some snow tomorrow.

I went to a village fund raising event this morning, it was quite busy but the doors were open so at least the air got a change, it seems strange to be talking to people on close quarters, I tend to want to back away!

Same for us with a new Dentist, she seemed ok through Covid but has suddenly pounced and announced lots of fillings etc...and a long wait to get them sorted. I came out feeling quite miserable last time. frown

We have a Karcher pressure washer and ours can pump as well as wash and goes into a water butt here as we are on a water meter as well and when we water in the summer we use a water pump that goes into any of the water butts we have, they are full at the moment.
