We had a U3A visit to Fotheringhay church this afternoon. What a wonderful building much smaller now than when it was a collegiate church but still beautiful. The church warden gave us a really interesting talk on the history of the church, castle and village. So much history. They have had a major restoration (for an eye watering amount of money!) since we last visited. All the roofs replaced and a small kitchen area and loos installed all paid for by various charitable trusts.

We are long overdue a revisit to Fotheringhay, tiny place, but oozes history everywhere. We could spend a couple of days there easily.😁

Brue I hope your daughter feels better soon and that you and your OH escape.
I too am horrified at the speed the PM wants to cut restrictions......
JVB that's fantastic service I hope it works well.
Milliehull sounds like a lovely outing. If/when........ it will be very local for us. We enjoyed a ride through in our last trip to see son on our way to somewhere else.
Been chilly and bright here. Cold overnight and sunny day forecast for tomorrow..other folks can keep the snow - thanks. We actually had some quite heavy rain overnight.
Not stopped using cash for things window cleaner, cleaner and market traders, even the chemist who have minimum £5 spend as they get charged. Don't like to think small traders being penalised by the banks!

I do hope your daughter feels better soon brue. I too am horrified at the ending of quarantine for people who have tested positive. When I was at work I was always annoyed when people with flu symptoms or a heavy cold came to work and passed their germs around.

100% agreement here !! -- I noticed at the Championship Snooker in the Black Country there were hardly any spectators with masks on -- rather similar to Boris himself since he relaxed the rules a shade last week he never wears his mask when leaving No 10
DEBSC :~~ The Cheshire East Council has several ways of relieving me of my money not the least is the use of Credit Cards on the Parking Meter -- that is a medical requirement since one needs Registration number as well as the card number which all adds up to an " Alzheimer Test " especially if one has multiple cars in the family { even worse should one be using the garages spare car whilst yours is undergoing motor-surgery !! }

We did our first proper shop at Waitrose for nearly two years. We have been in and out for the odd bit of shopping but not a full shop. First disappointment was that the cafe was not open, we have to wait until the 1st March! I had foregone my toast at breakfast time in the hope that I may have got a bacon ciabatta and coffee. I had to soldier on without but I did treat myself to a smoked salmon and cream cheese pack of sandwiches for lunch! If I was being honest our shop was a bit chaotic as we seemed to have forgotten the disciplined way we used to do it. Anyway we ended up with a full trolley and Margaret muttering that she thought she preferred to have a delivery!!! We will try again next week. Someone previously asked whether it would be cheaper to do an instore shop as opposed to a personal visit. I would say that in total cost it was about the same but we had lots of different things. I am sure we will get back into the swing of it.
On the subject of cash we seemed to have needed very little in the way of coinage or notes in the last couple of years. My usual source of pound coins is our monthly pensioner meetings. Yesterday was the first time we had been to such a meeting for as long as we have not done a full Waitrose shop. I give the girls a ten pound note for two lots of raffle tickets and they give eight pound coins which keeps me going for a while. I have to say I have quite liked the move away from cash but it does seem strange paying for a small amount on a card.

David, I have spent most of the past two years buying my daily newspapers with credit / debit cards at 80pence a throw with no complaints from McColls !! Indeed they hated having to accept Coins or Notes since it meant the staff used even more hand disinfectant !!

We have been at DD's (again) today. Went mid morning with some frozen veg we did not get for her yesterday.
She is now back at work, from home, almost full time, so asked us to get their weekly Aldi shop yesterday. Last time they asked, OH was alone and it took her so long we were close to sending out the St Bernard!!! Even with me assisting this time it took about an hour. We are not used to the layout of the store!
We got most things they wanted, but today we went to Morrisons and got what was missing. Plus some stuff for ourselves.
She has had me working out how to fit fly screens to her french doors, it will take me a day or 3 to do it all. Next week we have our gardener coming to DD to prepare for the climbing frame installation next week.......a birthday present for Callum. That should be interesting!

We have a bag of "parking money" in the car, but no £1 coins, so had to fetch one from the Smart so we could get a trolley at Aldi....I think I must have moved them all when the car went for service.
Picked up the screws I need for the bathroom plinth and the sealant to (hopefully) stop water dripping into the garage from Toolstation and Screwfix, so hopefully all sorted now.
First thing on the agenda next week is to sort fire alarms for us, DD, son, and his MIL, as we now have new regs up here.
The correct items are very difficult to source, and have shot up in price by 25% recently, so suppliers are certainly profiteering. We are having a "conference" this weekend to decide what system to go with.
Our only granddaughter will be 12 on Monday, so there will be tea and cake at DS's house on Sunday, plus lots of discussions on various things.

Very cold here this morning the cars were completely covered in frost. We had planned to go away this weekend in the van but there are weather warnings out for our area so we decided not to bother but hopefully get to go in a couple of weeks. Not much planned this weekend will try and get the car washed if it’s not too cold.

Our local CooP still prefer payment by card.,, ,on one occasion I paid the amount which I thought would be covered by the accrued money on our loyalty card but it was 8pence short which I paid by the only other method of payment I had that was by credit card

We need cash for local fund raising events, raffles, etc my craft group where I chip in for a coffee and biscuit. Plant sale in spring coming up. The odd busker or band, where music is enjoyed outside, so coins are still needed by us. Haven't yet had to pay village Carol singers by card.

Blimey, Brue its all happening round your way, innit

Could it be WE are getting Old and Grumpy together round here ?? Now I've printed off the days Athletics posts I will leave you all in peace & deliver them to the C19 Closeted Couple a few doors away

{The only Busker of whom I know is that bawdy Dr Busker but I wont go into that on here

We are now on Covid shopping duty for daughter as her partner now has it for the second time, both sound unwell but I think daughter's cough has eased.
ABM I hope your neighbours are OK.
Managed to get my new glasses sorted this morning, they can't be adjusted to fit as needed so chose a new replacement pair. That will teach me to go for the new fashionable solid frame look....😀
We were trying to get away for a couple of days, things have been booked but not sure if we'll actually make it...

Have a good weekend folks!

Been on tenterhooks all day! We it started Wednesday morning 😱. Trust you're sitting down?
We finally exchanged contracts today and complete 11 April.
I'm exhausted. But plenty of time for planning, as if I needed more, and list making. Removers and packing booked. Surprisingly they don't have any bookings yet for April. House insurance on new property commenced, credit card taken a big hit, I suspect first of many!
🍾🥂🎉

That is such good news Bakers2. I am so pleased for you. It must be such a relief and as you say plenty of time for planning. I do hope you will pop into the Cathedral one Tuesday morning when I am on duty after you are all settled so that we can meet up and you can tell me which village you are moving to.

Thank you Milliehull it's in the plans! Might be able to do it before the move who knows? When does the current exhibition finish. I've been before when Gia exhibition was on but not taken a tour. That's on the list too.
A cheese village 😉 but not the one ABM.& DSB frequently mention.

The current exhibition finishes Friday 18th but I gather there are more to come in the coming months. Looking forward to seeing you sometime in the future. Dora is welcome as well. A cheese village 🤔. Does it have a pub called The Bell?

Another super "non-holiday" holiday day.

Lovely calm weather, just right for a stroll along the tidal marshes of the River Dee. We really did enjoy it. Have to have a few more of these days. Apparently the weather for tomorrow might pose a problem for the non drive home so Mrs WN can do the towing for a change!

Great news re your move Bakers2.
We are away in the van, good journey through the cotswolds in the sunshine 🌞. The WiFi here works well unlike on club sites 😉
Did a lovely circular walk this afternoon, dog now fast asleep 😴
Glad you are enjoying your days out Wherenext.
Enjoy the weekend everyone.

Hope you have a good weekend away, H&T. Where are you stopping?

Thanks for your good wishes. Before Christmas it was hoped it would all be sorted by mid February. Been hard yards at times.......
Milliehull yes you're right and The Bell is lovely 😍 . Oh won't make this exhibition sadly. They certainly have some good ones. I'm definitely aiming to do the next Katharine of Aragon event!
Nice to read Wherenext are on a non holiday, I might try for one of those! And HelenandTrevor are on the real McCoy. Sorry you're not Francis.
We've had a very cold bright day here, heavy frost overnight. But got lots of washing line dried, smells wonderful. Looks like tomorrow more of the same but Sunday brings the stuff coming from the west and north, shame the reasonably dry ground won't be for much longer.
Just had a call from OH friend he's spent 11 hours driving down from Aberdeen, his mum not so good, so hopefully a catch up with him, saw him last September under similar circumstances.
Never a dull moment in life is there?

Another fine day, weatherwise at least. Had an early morning phone call to re-adjust my appointment with the dentist till next Friday, but still had to go in today to see the hygienist.today
Looks as if you had a good day out by the Dee today, WN. 👍

Hope you both have a good few days away. When is your new grandchild due?

Well done B2 - must be a big relief. I was avoiding posting it on here - but I will never forget sitting in a house - surrounded by packing cases - expecting the removal men to turn up - due to exchange and complete on the same day and the solicitor rang me and told me it had all fallen through!! I was devastated to say the least. Anyway, you can breathe a sigh of relief now - it must be a massive weight off your shoulders
