If its anything like our pharmacy the service has certainly taken a knock over the last couple of years. Why that should be I don't know but shortage of staff does seem to be an issue and I don't know if COVID has played a part? We got fed up with one pharmacy and changed to an independent only for that independent to be taken over by the one we were fed up with!!! We now tend to leave our prescriptions for a week after ordering and even then we find they have not been made up when we go to collect then so end up waiting!!!

The trouble with statins is that can have a negative impact on the liver, as does alcohol of course that is why it is important to have annual blood test to make sure liver function is OK. I must book mine soon.

On the subject of alcohol we are currently attempting Dry January, so far, so good!!!!

Another frosty night followed by a fine clear sunny day. Had a short walk along by the R.Aire at Airmyn, near Drax power station before heading into Howden to see it's Minster and then to Skipwith Common for a 2 hr walk after lunch. Last night here before we continue further north.

Hee hee, how lovely Rufs.  I had my money on some Wheaten Terrier being in there somewhere?  (Perhaps there is!)

A friend of mine, who works his dogs has a Springer / Labrador cross and says she's the best dog he has ever owned - very intelligent and extremely fast on the pick-up.

I wasn't impressed when I took Meg to puppy classes, either - she learned far more from me and was coming back on the whistle from 4 months old.  She is easy to train, though - because she's such a greedy pigsmile

Totally agree with your last sentence!

Just stepping out of the door this morning when the phone rang. A cousin informing me of the death by Covid of another of my cousins, who passed away this morning. He didn't have any underlying conditions and was fully vaccinated.Only thing against him was age, 70+. It would normally be a big funeral but I'm not sure with this Covid being around how many will be invited. In normal times I'd attend even though it will be on the south coast. Have to see how things pan out.

We carried on with the day as planned and went to the Wirral for a lovely walk of about 5 miles overlooking the Dee Marshes and did some birdwatching, which was very welcome after the news. Nature helping out. It was a beautiful day for such a walk as well.

    Take care folks.

Sincere condolences this pandemic certainly isn't over.

You're right nature can be a great comfort at such times.

We had another glorious day of blue sky and sunshine but chilly after another heavy frost. Luckily we've not had the forecast fog, nice bits of low lying mist at times.

    Stay safe everyone.

Ps our solicitor has Covid at the moment so things slow once again... Got a horrible feeling there won't be much notice for action stations 😱

Sorry about your news WN and at least your day out helped and some good birds spotted.

A frosty start here but a lovely sunny day even a bit of warmth at 11.5C after yesterday which did not get above 3C, did manage a very short walk whilst waitingfor OH doing a few chores before we went to post off his passport which he did the renewal last night and said so much easier than before a 11 weeks possible wait so hope it will be here before end of April it will be coming by courier from UK to here and has to be signed for he has aslo sent the old one back by recorded trackable delivery to UK so hope all goes ok.

Off to see a friend who has returned back from UK last week and she has had all the tests and all ok now, not easy to get Lateral flow /Antigen tests here as it is mostly Pharmacies who sell them and quite expensive although the larger hypermarkets are being allowed to sell them until end of this month only and they are not allowed to be sold online which is a shame, OH has another appointment for a heart check on Monday in Cahors so will check the hypermarkets there for the test kits.

    Thanks.

Funnily enough I wasn't that close to the deceased or at least haven't seen him for some years but I am close to his sister who relayed the news and I do remember him fondly from the time we used to spend Christmasses together as children.

He was the type that unfortunately always found trouble but would give you his last £10 and go hungry. Our families had quite a few children between them and we all tended to pair up with the nearest in age group. As he was older he spent more time with my elder brother but I have entertained at home here whenever he passed through the area. A misunderstood man but a thoroughly decent one to me and my family.

Our new passports were returned surprisingly quickly. I got an acknowledgement on 17th November that they had received my application and an email on 8th December to say that it was on its way. The old passports took much longer to be return, probably a month after the new ones arrived. The biggest worry beforehand was whether they would accept the photographs as their online checker questioned both of them but I added notes which they seemed to accept!

Sorry to hear your news, WN, please accept our condolences.

Good to hear that you had a pleasant day out birdwatching.

Hard frost over night but another calm sunny day. Easy drive up the A1(M) to Richmond area this lunchtime. The road was surprisingly quiet, spotted only 3 other caravans out and a few more M/Hs. However the site is full tonight.

    Awful news, Wherenext.

Just heard that my 94 year old mother has tested positive.

Seems it’s ripped right through her care home.

She’s fully vaccinated and boosted, and reported to be showing no symptoms, but, hell, I’m worrying something shocking. Fingers crossed. 🙂🤞

Commiserations Wherenext and Pliers  ~~  it's still around despite the news saying it's less and less serious as time passes undecided.

The only problems { at Present wink }  round my immediate area is that the 10ish year old lad a few doors away has caught Scarlet Fever -- something I have not heard of for a long time !

Have you noticed the two pups saying hello on the New arrivals post today ?

A pair of Cavachons, with a decent description,  they seem to be as keen on comfort as others of the four-legged variety   smile

Good to hear your next move has gone ok Nellie. Did you get to see Selby Abbey at all? We were just saying earlier you have had a good week weather wise.

Thinking of you and your mum.

My, about to be, 93 uncle in a retirement home in Lytham st Ann tested positive last weekend. Touch wood no ill effects. All residents confined to their own rooms, must be very tough. He's lucky that he has a balcony and sea view. They have done very well to keep it out for so long.

We had a heavy frost and some fog when I went to bed but luckily both have disappeared this morning. Wish the frost had stayed it's much nicer for Dora's walk we both stay cleaner!

Car valet today, not before time, got missed off  (he was convinced we wouldn't be here still...) last month 😱 and no-one else cancelled 😤. Can't imagine what some on here would make of the car, inside and out. Not sure what will happen when we move 🤞. I don't do car cleaning and OH not up to it now, hopefully I'll find a good local one 🤞. This one is great and does it on our drive so very little disruption. So long as you can provide continuous tea 😀.  So will need to empty glasses, bags and towels on our return from dog walk.

    Enjoy your day folks.

Whoops spoke/typed too soon! Just looked out of the window as I left the breakfast table. Fog descending. Popped out to the bins and it feels much cooler than it did when I feed the birds.

Frost and fog here, so decided to have a lie in!!!   Sadly we heard that one of our neighbours passed away with Covid yesterday, his wife also got it but she appears to be recovering thankfully. They are around the same age as us, early 70’s.  He was fully vaccinated and boosted so take care folks it’s still out there!

Sorry to hear all the Covid news. Hope your Mum is OK Pliers.

I am hoping to see my sister over the weekend, we've not been able to see each other recently due to Covid amongst her family.

There is a slight lift to the frost and fog here, yesterday there was an accident due to fog on the A303 and the roads were closed. OH was out early and had to make a big detour.

Hope you enjoy the Richmond area Nellie, nice place to visit. I enjoyed seeing the castle in one of the Digging for Britain episodes. Have really enjoyed those programmes.

Bakers2, fingers crossed for you over the coming move.

Lazy day here, actually finished a book yesterday. Rarely get to do this so quickly!

Bit grey and dull here today complete opposite to yesterday which was lovely all day. Spent a couple of hours in the front garden in the sun felt good to be out doing again.

Sorry to hear your sad news WN, Pliers I hope your Mum comes through it OK worrying time for you.

Passports, ours have to be renewed this year. We will need to send them off as soon as we get back in June as we are planning to go away in October again. Not the best time of year to be trying to renew passports but there's nothing we can do about that, just hope it's a decent turn around time. What's the best way to do them these day's?

OH just got back, he's been out doing a job for the time bank.

Sorry to hear your sad news WN - and fingers crossed for your mum, Pliers,  It's true what heddlo said - just popped (or should that be 'hopped' - given my mobility issues at the moment!) to our next door neighbours to find that wife is ill with Covid - thinks she got it whilst attending her mum's funeral on Tuesday as others have come down with it as well.  They're both young (our neighbours) - so here's hoping they will be OK.  I must admit that when husband told me, I made a rapid retreat from the doorstep!

After some lovely sunny but frosty days during the week the weather now frosty but very foggy.

Uneventful week here, quiet week, OH changed the brake discs and pads on the car, so all good to go when we eventually decide where!🤣 Did catch up with a friend this week who had spent Christmas and New Year in the far north of Scotland, was just a bit envious. 😳

Hopefully will get to check on the caravan in storage later if the fog lifts.

Sorry to read your sad news Wherenext,   and hope you Mum is OK Pliers.

Our neighbours opposite both had covid late last year, we were bit worried at the time as he normally needs oxygen just to walk to the end of the road, the vaccines did their job and symptoms were only fairly mild.

TG Oh did his online late Thursday evening and found it very quick photo takes the longest and as he had got photo already from last year re our residency cards and the same size, re photos looks like you have the same system as here go to the right photo booth which will give you a code number on the photo otherwise you can do them yourself.

Same from us Pliers fingers crossed for your mum.

Another sharp frost here with plenty of sunshine not as warm as yesterday but no gardening for what I want to do yet will wait until a bit warmer, just topping up the bird feeders.

Take care Richard and hope your neighbour will be ok.

Thanks RedKite and I'm sure our neighbour will be fine.  She's just a sprog compared to us, but Omicron does seem to be rife around here at the moment.

Had a 'reprimand' ( was going to use another word!) from the District Nurse when she rang me earlier because I asked if my leg should be as swollen as it is.  "You're doing too much - just take it easy - as I told you on Thursday".  Trouble is, I can't - and also I'm used to bossy nurses because I used to be married to one - so it just goes over my head, I'm afraidwink

R&R. Do as you're told young man! wink

Just heard that daughter's closest work colleague at school has Covid, fully vaccinated but not feeling too good. They have done so well after being surrounded by Covid and daughter has been covering for many staff absences. Just hope it doesn't reach her, she didn't get it when her partner had it so fingers crossed.

TG my new passport took about three weeks to arrive, it was the easiest phone application I've ever done except for the bit involving the photographer (OH)....surprised

Not the best of the days or last couple of days.

Morning phone call to tell me that my Sister-in-Law had passed away overnight. We're unable to contact my brother who sent an email telling us and doesn't want any phone calls whilst he comes to terms with it. As he's in France it's difficult to just ignore it and drive to see him. He's lost a wonderful wife and all of us are feeling his loss.

Have to now start looking into getting the necessary forms to get over there.
