Thanks for all the tips. Every car park around the town was busy today. We could have just walked into town from the car park by Easby Abbey, along by the river,  had we known that it was going to be so busy. We could also have parked on Maison Dieu and walked in from there, as there was plenty of room there. The castle is only open at the weekends in the winter, hence the reason we went today. Might just give the Fish and Chip shop a try when we go in during the week, just have to make sure that it's not market day!!

Blimey, Robsail,  between us all we do have a tremendous fund of knowledge in this forum !!

And I thought I'd just get laughed at having such strange ideas  embarassed although I probably was at least the target for a fair few giggles, snorts etc etc wink

WN, condolences to you and your family, what a rotten week you've had. Glad to hear you are going to be able to get over for the funeral,  take care.

We've had another dry sunny day today, managed a couple of  hours in the garden this morning. Then after lunch we took a drive out over the hills to Dundee and onto Broughty Ferry. Ive been in the town before but not to the beach, it was lovely. Lots of folk out walking and cycling. We will be going again that's for sure. smile

Off to SS again tomorrow, glasses still not right. This time though I have an appointment  with a technician so hopefully we will get the problem sorted. I'm taking my last but one pair with me as they are the same frame, never had any issue with them so they can compare the 2 to see what the problem is.

Next door neighbour has been isolating again, didn't think he was at work last week but that's nothing unusual. Seemingly he played rugby last weekend and got pinged on Monday. This is about his 4th time he's  getting a bit bored with it now. Only just had his booster as he's just in his late 20s, after this time he won't have to isolate again under the new rules.

I got pinged this morning as well but nothing to fret about --  just needed to stir the porage  oats & add a handful of blueberries  innocent

OK OK I'll go and do my Monday morning accounts embarassed

We have several family and friends looking at lifting methods ,most seem to think a modified garage engine lifts would be feasible  one downstairs and one upstairs or just the one when stair lift fitted as it could be used as transport surprised,

Ros has two patients to look after because when I came home from hospital, I noticed that Meg's eyes and ears were all red and she was scratching herself incessantly around her neck. She was at the vet's the next day and something called 'wet eczema' was diagnosed.  Apparently, dogs have a lot of bacteria on their skin and when they scratch, it gets under the skin, causing more itching and scratching and hence it goes on.  She was in a lot of distress, but the lotions and potions prescribed by the vet - at a cost of almost £80, seem to have done the trick.  However, I noticed that one of them was Hibiscrub - nothing more complicated than a posh anti-bacterial soap.  Guess what, I was being charged over £9 for 50ml and when I looked on line at a certain well known 'A" site - I could buy 500ml for £7.50.  Now I accept that Vet's have to make a living, but that really is taking the Mick!

Trouble is, you don't know what they are prescribing until you get the bill.

Not much wonder I always insist on a prescription so that I can buy on-line for her regular meds.

Hope WN and brothers are ready for the journey to France and all goes well.

Got together with my sister and some of the family this weekend, some of the little ones are growing so fast and the difference hit me when I saw them. All thanks to Covid and not seeing them as much as usual. I'm wondering if some of my other friends will look like Methuselahs by the time I get to see them once more. What a chunk out of some of our lives this has been.

Was hoping to get to the Harold Hillier gardens in Hants this week but we're put off by the lengthy drive through frosts and fog. It's a garden I wanted to see in winter. Trying to find an alternative, all seem a long way off...

Hope your son is showing signs of improvement Robsail, what a long haul for you all.

Sounds like your dog is on the mend R&R, ears are often a problem, hard work keeping them clean and healthy.

Food delivery today so well stocked up and hot meal at lunchtime so not much to think about tonight! Can concentrate on book one of the Shetland series, engrossed with that.

Lovely sunny day but know the frosts and fog will soon descend, brrr. smile

Thank you one and all once again.

We're almost ready, last minute things to pack away tomorrow morning but I'm not relishing the near 280 mile trip tomorrow. Hopefully we'll get to my brother on the south coast in time for him to take us to Bournemouth for the LFT as I don't think I could stomach that, in rush hour as well.

Feel desperate for my other widowed brother. Found out when talking to him that his sole neighbour also passed away on Friday whilst he was otherwise engaged with his own problems. So he has had 3 deaths to contend with in one weekend. Only consolation is that he has friends nearby that will, hopefully, help him through it all. Had a word with my travelling brother and we both agree that we'll extend the trip if necessary, so packing extra clothes and meds etc.

Hope people get to enjoy the supposed nice weather this week. Stay vigilant.

Received letter from OH s visit to memory clinic, she is not going to improve  but they consider her to not get worse and neurologist is ringing tomorrow, surprised

So we have made a big decision to see how it goes ,to be able to keep using an LV have bought a very old high mileage with cycle rack but otherwise not used much for camping an Autosleeper Symbol that will tow our little trailer and save much work for me ,as OHs buggy and chairs, also porch awning can now be loaded and carried without to much work

Also it can be parked outside garage at home and save £750 storage fees and it will be handy for me to keep clean

Hope we have done the right thing?

    Stairlift being fitted Wed

    It all happening heresurprised

Only just had chance to catch up

Wherenext my condolences to you and your family and safe trip to France hope all goes well.

Managed a trip to the caravan at the weekend, got the the first gate but our fob wouldn't open the second gate, stuck in  the middle laughing. Quick phone call and we were reset and gate opened. All ok with the caravan, brought the battery back to check the charge.

Had to go back to local Mountain Warehouse, OH put new boots on today for the first time, didn't even get laces done up as metal eyelet came off!! surprised Shop hadn't got anymore in his size so they ordered a pair to be delivered.

Eldest son and his wife have been told that due to her diabetes they plan to induce the baby at 38 weeks so it looks like it may share a birthday with Uncle ( youngest son)

JVB, sounds like you have things sorted to carry on touring,  hope all goes well.

    Have a safe trip, WN.

JVB, hope that the "new" M/H works for you both, the stair lift too of course.

Pleased to read that Meg is on the mend, Richard. Vets certainly know how to charge, don't they just.

Nice for you to meet up with some of your family, brue. These last couple of years have been hard for lots of families, some will have certainly changed since they were last able to mingle properly.

Congratulations, JV. I think the older Symbols are better than the new ones. What age is it?

I hope your OH will cope in it. I’d be particularly concerned about the compact size of the washroom. I hope the space will be adequate for her.👍🏻

Same here JV. Hope things go well. Hope things go well for your family as well WN.

Hibiscrub…….Vets charge the earth for it. We used to sell it in the Saddlery I worked in something like 500 times cheaper. It’s one of those things good to have in for a pet first aid kit. Wet eczema is awful, and not easy to sort out though. Hope she picks up quickly.

JVB. If it's like our previous re-badged Symbol the washroom had a clever arrangement using the door across the gangway to form a private dressing area at the rear. We also had a step fitted around the tow bar, you might find that useful for yourself. Otherwise keep your caravan step it will come in handy. Hope it all works out. smile

JVB all sounds promising. Only trying wi8ll decide what you can and can't do so go for it. Adapt what/how/the way as you go.

Robsail I seem to have missed your post but I've checked it out now! It has been a long haul but hopefully things will improve however slowly. I remember OH having to get back onto food after gastro tube - but he did.

Wherenext and family safe travels ❤

Very heavy frost here again but not such a clear sky today.

I've calmed down a lot from yesterday when I learnt just how fast things could go now 😱😱  I want to run in the opposite direction, most unlike me!, and have started list making in earnest........ I wish I didn't feel so sick by the thought of it all. I keep telling myself to breathe and it will all come out in the wash - wish I was more convincing!

    Enjoy your day folks

Thanking you all for your good wishes

,We just happend to call in to  Venture Caravans and Motorhomes at Hitchin to get some chemicals for our c/van toilet on the way to get some food shopping ,and there was this Symbol at the back of their forecourt it seems OK very high miles but at 15years? Salesman thinks it was an only vehicle and not used much for camping as it seemed in good order, last owner px it for a new Symbol, he had fitted cycle rack and towbar with steps before changing it ,w

It is just to see if it works for us ,if not we have not lost a lot and they have offered a good price for our Bailey caravan

    Morning

Welcome back to the PVC owners jvblaughing. High mileage means nothing as long as it's been well serviced. Autosleepers build quality was really good back then, sort of feel for that chap who went for a new one!!

In his later years, my old chap had a stair lift installed by his LA. It helped give him the will to get out of bed and get out. Hope all goes well.

Were there many vans for sale there? Interesting to see how stocks go for the spring.

Thanks, just testing to see if it makes our situation easier

Their forecourt was full of both type of LVs the latest symbol. Is nearly £70,000

As the manager says they have stock  but there are still big problems in the supply chain and cannot get a delivery date for more LVs from any companies, he wonders how the Feb show will work with delivery dates?

He expects the surge in sales to last for the next two years and he also said there is not a lot of finance, it is mostly pension pots and equity release paying for sales, with parents it seems bank rolling their sprogs ?

We were told to get an LA grant for stairlift but the ceiling for any help was to low for us

Also the gas cylinder supply is still very iffy they did not have any 6 or 7kg bottles and non on last delivery

Sounds good😁 Echo what JK says, the older AS models are very well built, we have never regretted ours. We were fortunate to get one little used as well, certainly the oven had never been used, or the bathroom. Lots of Spanish stuff with ours, including a dodgy alarm that caused us a bit of initial grief, but is now long gone.
I think it will be a good move for you both, at least worth a try, you now have a mobile rest room, cafe, that is neat enough to take almost anywhere. We have used ours for my Mum these last two years, and it’s been an absolute godsend keeping her warm, comfy, well fed and safe. You might have a few compromises, but Club Sites will give you a better shower if required. Hope things work out. 🤞

MMM Magazine are always featuring older motorhomes and often point out what good condition many of them are in despite their age. I think also they have a price that doesn't change much unlike a brand new one. At least you have owned a PVC before so you have plenty of knowledge already. Hope it works out for you.

"Also the gas cylinder supply is still very iffy they did not have any 6 or 7kg bottles and non on last delivery"

same round our way, I do have 2 almost full 6kg LPG light on the caravan, but salvaged 2x4.5 kg butane cyclinders from daughters old caravan, one full, one empty, cannot find anywhere locally to exchange the 4.5kg empty for full, my plan is to use these for the gas BBq we use with the caravan which would mean the onboard 6kg's would last much longer, and transporting 2x4.5 kg canisters in the caravan is not going to be difficult.

Did consider flight to Spain this week but having some fantastic weather, even if the nights are on the chilly side, which looks set to continue into next week, so put that on hold for now, Spain having some very cold nights also, Spanish daughter making the most of her log burner.

It's probably a lucky find JVB, ours was and we'd seen a Symbol in action as OH's cousin had one, we liked theirs and they had it a long time, always looked after it. We drove past Bristol docks at the weekend, the delivery areas for new vehicles were virtually empty. Quite a few white vans and just a few cars but only in a small area. So I think things are quite tough out there and prices for new motorhomes are getting very high! We found our van could get a bit chilly in the winter so a spare heater is worth having. Glad to hear you've got a step on the tow bar, really useful.

Had a drive down into Devon today and bought a few winter plants and yet again, half price seed packets which will be good for the summer, more veg and flowers. 🌻

Bakers2, do hope you can hang on in, very soon you'll be so busy you won't have time to think it's just that horrible bit in between. Best wishes for your move and new home. smile🏡
