OH's heart check all ok yesterday and consultant pleased that his blood pressure has gone down since the same check last year.  A very cold foggy day here today 1C brr so not doing anything outside except to do bird feeders.

See you have changed your avatar JK to the latest club logo or the walls ice cream as we call it, we found a pair of the new logo stickers last week when we were sorting some old paperwork, I still have old logo on my car when I looked the other day.

Hope all goes well with your pvc outfit JVB66 and you can still enjoy your breaks away.

Dry day here today, chilly and no sun but I'm happy with dry. 😁

Thanks brue and Red kite for the info on passports, OH has checked and at the moments it's looking around 3 weeks wait to get them back so here's hoping it stays that way now.

Finally got my specs sorted 🙂 while in town we had a look around, first time since August I think. Ended up buying 2 new bike helmuts.

Then a walk along the river, no beavers or otters today but lots of evidence of where the beavers have been chomping on the trees.

JV, good luck with the new PVC hope it works for you and Mrs JV.

Another hard frost last night, enough to freeze the site's water, but thankfully we had fully charged and covered aquarolls, and I took the pump in overnight. It was still freezing at 10 this morning but soon warmed up after that. Returned to Easby Abbey car park and did the circular walk to Richmond returning along the old line. Then after lunch in the car drove into the Market Square and had a wander through the town before a quick call into Lidl again for bread and milk on the way back to the van. Spotted about 100 Mute Swans feeding in a field on what I think was Rape plantlings.

In response to a query by JK on dealers with stock, we called in at Ropers, Catterick Caravans that was, this morning and they had quiet a large number of both new Baileys and used vans but not that many M/Hs.

🤞 expecting a date any day now, think it will be very quick. Solicitor says as little as 5 days after exchange, which will probably next week. Its the uncertainty and then ACTION STATIONS, that causes the palpitations. Like most things once your doing it you just have to get on with. Lists are great but can't book removal until we know the date! Can be as organised as I like but no one to pack us and drive stuff to new abode...... We got out removal quote, granted not in this house, last June so need to see what they say now as the 6 months validity has expired.

I'd love a wand right now, wave it and we're in our new home, it's clean, stuff in the right place and our new adventure begins.....

After a wonderful start yesterday, heavy frost and bright skies the fog came down as Dora and I walked and didn't shift all day making it very chilly. I did however get to the dump with the shed fridge - it hasn't worked for a while but good additional bottle storage, especially in the cooler months! Tumble drier on the drive awaiting the 'dingy dingy van' collection, that stopped working Christmas week. Will get another when we've moved as not sure where it will live.

Bright start I'll get my act together and get the dog up, she has OH genes! I'll try to shift him too 😱. Walk and then lunch with a friend, last one with her for a while I fear 🥲

Am I the only one that feels the evenings are pulling out nicely but the mornings are getting darker?

It's very dark here this morning B2, our little dog doesn't get going either but OH has just taken her out for a field walk. Then he's off to finish some work on daughter's bathroom and tiny new utility area. Work stopped on that a month ago. Daughter's partner is busy doing some landscaping work for someone else. His music hasn't paid much during Covid although lots of free sessions have entertained people.

Housework today for me, not my favourite pastime! wink

I do feel for you Bakers2. I can't bear uncertainty. I am sure you will feel better when you get a firm date. Although I do agree a magic wand would be great so that you find it all over and done with and you are happily settled in your new home.smile Best of luck.

We were woken at 7,00 am by one of those calls from Amazon.  Not happy yell. No frost this morning but it is still cold. Nice and bright though. Yesterday was a really hard frost. It took ages to defrost the car before I set off into town. The Cathedral are setting up a display called 'made in lockdown' It is a display of work that local people have made during the past year or so.  It opens on Friday but I had a sneak preview yesterday.  I was amazed and the inventiveness and talent. There are some beautiful pieces.

Housework for me as well today brue.  Like you it is not my favourite pastime frown. OH is doing some pruning, cutting back ad clearing in the garden.

I know what you mean Millie. A new dishwasher ordered from Argos, glad to see the back of the old one, leaks and unreliable before it went caput, we had both had a bad nights sleep, then at 7.15am the phone went, I was fast asleep then and spent a few moments trying to turn off the alarm before I realised it was the phone. This was yesterday morning, a recorded message to say it would be delivered today and the approx time. Then another similar call at 8am then an email. They did deliver on time though and OH is now plumbing it in so fingers crossed it’s better than the last one. Just wish they wouldn’t ring so early, I suppose they are trying to catch people before they go to work.     A bit of tidying in the garden yesterday but not out long as so very cold, two pairs of gardening trousers and three jumpers. The front does look better now though and I filled the green bin.

Goodness me, B2, that has been a long haul for you, I hope you are able to complete your move soon.  Is the new house your first choice one, or the second?   House moving seems very stressful in England compared to our experience up here, where things are signed and organised well ahead.

OH is asking if you have booked the removers to do all the packing too?  Our daughter did that and said it was money well spent, even though she had 4 months between getting the new house and moving out of the old one.  The packers were expert and very quick.

She was able to unpack at her leisure, and tell them when the empty  boxes  were ready to be returned as she was only moving between houses a few hundred metres apart, but I expect the movers can also unpack for you.

    Great news JVB.

It's started to drizzle here. It was a mucky walk! House outdoor thermometer said 3c car said same. Met check said 2 feel like -3 and Writtle weather station said 9c 🤣🤣. Wind was cool but I wasn't overdressed once I removed hat!

Not keen on housework but do like it to look nice. Not had any incentive for months. Now telling myself basics until the furniture is out. But then I'll have a lot to do when we arrive......

Lovely sunny day here....for a change.    I am off to our son's place in Ayrshire with a full load of wood for his log burner.  More space freed up in our garage.

OH is staying home as DD, who loaded it all up for me, also filled up the front passenger footwell !!

First time the VW has been used since my fall in early  November, had to charge the battery as it was almost dead.

Yes we are having removers do the packing,  we'll that's the intention, was surprised at how 'little' the charge is. They'll be quicker than me as they're practised, and I'd be putting in and taking out again to get it right.......  Sadly they don't offer unpacking boxes service, but will put furniture in rooms as required, no idea where bits, apart from the obvious, will go as have only seen the house twice. Still despite getting older were are upsizing, garden included 😱 so plenty of space. Can only buy from choice on the market!

This is actually our 3rd choice of house but very happy with it, 2nd house was sold before we could out in an offer! My brother referred to that as palatial this one is 4 square metres bigger 🤣. The first house, become known as 'the servants quarters' as is was 'only' 3 bedrooms, but had huge wrap around garden that needed immediate attention to make it dog proof. Despite offer accepted in June she still hadn't found anywhere in a 40 mile radius by October! It was re-sold, at an increased price within days of going back on the market, but not convinced it'll be sorted yet - divorce case we've since learnt. I just made sure we stayed on the lists to be notified of properties coming on the market as we were looking in such a limited area. It was the estate agent who tipped us off about this house as think he'd got the measure of owner of servants quarters!

Been on tenterhooks all day waiting for a phone call re suggested completion (dates), can stand down now overnight.

Had a nice catch up and lunch with friend, been miserable grey and damp again for a change.

JVB it'll take a while for your OH to be confident on your house's new toy but it will make life easier in the long run! One of the things I was looking for was being able to be able to 'live' downstairs if necessary .

Goodness me,,,,sounds like a nightmare....that would never happen up here!

We offer....if offer is accepted, then you proceed to signing  the missives, then you are tied in.   Missives include a moving date, so you know what is happening.

One should not offer up here if one does not have the money to proceed.

A seller will not refuse an offer if your current home is not under offer, it is up to the buyer to be sure they have the money to proceed.

Our daughter had not sold her house, but her brother, and us, were able to lend her the difference, and she was able to have 2 mortgages for 3 months.    Halifax said nothing when that became 4 months!

Her house now is a forever house, the catchment area for the school was the main thing, but they will never move now, so happy to spend on getting it how they want it.

Fortunately they can afford to do that.

Kj. Unless a Scottish house is on the fixed price system you can find yourself out of pocket in the "offers over" bidding process. It's a bit like an auction where you have to make the legal checks beforehand, which can be expensive if your bid fails. So I think both systems north and south have drawbacks. That's from personal experience of both. smile

John, good to read a!l your posts and that things have fallen into place for you. Hope the trip to FM goes without hitch and you come back with lots more info about the "new booking scheme"winklaughing

Fingers crossed that your move come off sooner than later, B2. It certainly has been a worrying time for you. I know what you mean about dirty dog walks, Flyte hasn't been properly clean since we left home over 4 weeks ago.

Today has  been the warmest for a while, at up to 9C with no frost over night, full sunshine and a steady breeze, so grand for getting the washing dry. Morning visit to Northallerton,  market day so quite busy, then found a dryish walk at Morton on Swale after lunch. Last night here before we start on the slow trek homeward.

Moving about an hour and a half away, and will be about 10 minutes drive to son and family. Our DIL farms so highly unlikely they'll move out of the area. Even when they move into farmhouse in the future it'll be about the same distance, if different direction.

Since OH was poorly, almost 3 years ago, I have had to take on many more tasks, almost everything. It's a day for family to visit or me to drive there, weather has a great deal to play when a visit is planned so DIL may not be able to come or be there if we visit. The pandemic also made us re-evelate the situation as well. Our grandson will be a year in March, where did that time go? So means we can mutually help each other out if necessary. It would only be emergency childcare if needed nothing regular, but closer for a cuppa or pop by visit which isn't possible now or babysitting 😀.

We moved here almost 37 years ago expecting it to be our forever home. We no longer have ties here that we did, I have a brother, that's our only blood relative left,  who lives half an hour away, so still visit-able either way round, his offspring are between him and our new abode. Yes leaving friends will be a wrench, but not as hard as our daughter moving to NZ! Hopefully we can establish a new group in our new village. We're pretty good at distance friendships, my 2 oldest, as in longest 😉, now live in the Northumberland for15 years and Scotland for 30 years. We keep in touch and its like we haven't been apart when we meet. OH's lives in Oz! Maybe they're telling us something???

Don't know what the ideal method would be. We wasted several hundred pounds on a survey on house number one 😤 and I expect some abortive solicitor's costs even though we didn't have searches etc as seller hadn't found anywhere, I expect we'll be billed for that when we complete.

What I find hardest is its still in limbo and can fall apart until the very last minute before exchange of contracts. We are hearing some truly awful tales/urban myths of shenanigans just as contracts are to be exchanged. I'm trying to ignore them......

B2. Yes, close your ears to them! wink Our most frantic move was with a buyer who wanted our house "now" not in a few weeks or months time. We managed it although we still look back in amazement that we did.

I'm sure you'll enjoy your new surroundings and villages are usually friendly places.

Pre surveys are priceless-We we’re very lucky to enjoy the benefits of a survey as it saved me having to replace a full roof due to bad woodworm. As it was the seller picked up the tab. We bought & moved into our current home & was in it 3months before the wormy one was back on the market👍🏻. One of our sons was going to pay for the cheapest survey of 3, we paid the difference to get the best. It didn’t need it in the end but we were happy with our decision, peace of mind is everything.

Yes a seller doing a survey would be great!

Wholeheartedly agree about the best full survey. When I said wasted I meant if the seller hadn't appeared so keen to sell we would have held back before paying out fir the survey.

    Can't win them all 🤣

When we moved south from Scotland, bungalow had been on the market for almost 12 months, one day a guy pulled up, said he would give us the asking price but we had 6 weeks to move, we moved in 5 and lived in our caravan on Rooksbury Park for 3 weeks, just moved to new site at Winchester when current bungalow came on the market, newly renovated by builder, we viewed, shook hands on his asking price and moved in 3 weeks later, on the proviso that he carried out some minor alterations, e.g. widen drive entrance so we could get the caravan onto piece of land alongside the bungalow.

All scary stuff trying to ensure the monies was were it was supposed to be and i was officially working from home and using the rear of caravan as an office, my only regret was leaving Scotland, but had to be done, OH suffers from Raynaud's so much too cold in Scotland, but loving it down here now, weather not bad for England, coast just 5 mins away, village centre 10 mins, most big supermarkets 20 minutes drive, Portsmouth ferries 30 mins, Poole ferries 1hr 30 mins, most of Gkids 15 mins away, whats not too like.

Cracking day again, although temperature not a lot above freezing but clear blue skies, even the birds are busy, saw a very nice woodpecker in the park this morning first siting for ages, get the bike out for an hour this afternoon going to look at the new Kia Sorento, but i told the sales guy that i had no intention of buying, OH would kill me if i did surprisedhence cycling there then it will not be so easy to give me a trade in price laughing

Yes, "offers over" can be tricky, nobody wants to overpay, but now a little easier since the Home Report scheme started.
This gives a valuation which the lender will accept and your mortgage offer will be based on, so you know that if you offer over that, you need to have the difference in cash, over and above whatever deposit you are putting down.

When the market is slow, houses will sell at or below the HR value,  but the last 2 years the market here has been buoyant, so houses are going at 10-25% above the valuation in quite a few areas.  Around here, there is not a lot on the market and you have to be organised, and act quickly.    In fact in some places houses are sold before you can even book a viewing!

You need your finances in order before looking, as missives can be concluded quite quickly, and once that is done, there is no going back.

DD was advised that they should just offer what they could afford, not to go mad, so they offered about 5% over.   This was 3 1/2 years back, the market was slow but the house in a very desirable area, so offering over valuation was essential.  Theirs was not the highest offer, but preferred as they could move quickly.  They were all set to move within 2 months, but a problem with coal mining in the area delayed things by 3 weeks.
