Only the second frost of the season here this morning and a rare sunny day. Both feeling fine and testing negative, so we went to RHS Rosemoor. Busy today but big enough to easily avoid others. Lots of signs of spring, daffs, snowdrops and lots of buds and shoots.

Grandaughter feeling a lot better and, if she tests negative, will make it for her exam by one day, so she is much happier.

Talking about glasses I now only buy frames with built in nose pads as I had so much trouble with the wobbly ones!

I suppose people build fences as it saves them time having to cut hedges? I have a one metre high hedge all round our front garden (we are on a corner) and had I not discovered a cordless hedge trimmer I would be doing all I could to get rid of it!!! I have to say that I like the look of a nicely built fence. They can be a bit of a blank canvas for growing things on like Pyracantha and Clematis.

Shopping done this morning, first I had to go back to Specsavers. Last week I went in to get new nose pads on my specs, found them really uncomfortable so got my old specs out to have a good look at them only to discover they had fitted upsides down. Hot them turned round today but OH is having to 'close' up the clip that holds them in as the person in store didn't. I do despare at times, it's not as if specs are cheap.

TG a friend of mine got fed up with specsavers so decided to go to a small independent optician and was told that their glasses start at £600 per pair surprised

Fences are fine if they all match , and are not intrusive as they are here,  when the area has always been smart hedges, it really makes it look a bit run down

I so agree about hedges brue. Makes a tremendous difference in terms of birds and other wildlife if gardens keep their hedges, especially mixed ones. Yes, they do need maintenance, but good planting choices can help keep that manageable to a degree. Even fences are better if little hedgehog holes are included, and some climbing shrubs to cover, at least it gives some wildlife help, and less of a stark appearance. The ten metres of two coloured beech we planted a couple of years ago is maturing very nicely👍

Lovely day here as well. We walked into town for our eye tests this afternoon. I need specs for driving now, (still legal without, but I am better with in the dark) mainly in dark, still ok to stick to 1.5 readers. Small independent business, very helpful, huge range of frames and extras. I found a nice frame I like, coated lenses, all for £130, which I thought excellent. OH tried Specsavers, but wasn’t impressed with the quality of what he got.

Wow, that was quick, but good news, always better to recover at home if it’s safe to do so. That’s a mighty impressive scar as well. Only time I spent any time as an in patient, (pinned shoulder) OH fed me daily, food was that awful, but that was the mid 1980’s. Tough times back then for a Veggie🤣 Wishing you a good home recovery now👍

Glad you are now home Richard and here’s hoping the recovery goes well.

Not much to report from here we’ve hardly been out over the past week or so and the weather hasn’t been great. We have been discussing our trips for the year ahead so far we have booked Devon for the Summer Blackpool for the June bank holiday and a CL in Cumbria for Easter we are thinking of Stonehaven for the May bank holiday weekend.

WN - The road in to North Wales is one of our faves lovey sea views we drove it again while we were staying at Chester last October

When I was in just over 2 years ago the nursing staff didn't actually comprehend what Gluten Free was! The kitchen couldn't understand either. I couldn't possibly have been the only one in there with a dietary problem. In fact one of the nurses bought a packet of GF Cornflakes on the second morning so I could actually have something. I hate them but had to show willing as she had paid for them herself. I relied on Mrs WN bringing sandwiches and energy bars in. Went home having lost 10 lb in weight in just 7 days.

Francis, we drove past an old Volvo today and I wondered whether you still have old faithful. You were talking about getting a replacement but I don't know if you did or not.

Just back from 3 nights at Chatsworth CAMC site.  Weather hasn't been too bad for January, but today has been the best day... now that we've travelled home. Had to get the sunglasses out to drive on the M1...😀

Mrs WN has eye problems and tried our local Specsavers one year instead of the independent that she's been using since we moved here. Only once she said. Not at all happy with the service. They missed her eye problem until she told them and the lenses they supplied were so poor she replaced them with better ones at the Indie shop within 6 months. I'm sure there must be good Opthalmists working for Specsavers but all of us would prefer to use the Independent one in town.

On saying that she won't use one of the three main Opticians there, preferring either of the other two.

Forgot to say on an earlier post that last night about 10pm we heard some strange noises outside so went out to find the local military area was having a flare training session and gosh they certainly went a long way and looked like UFO's in the sky not seen that here before and then today they were on gun practice and can be very loud sometimes even though it is 6 miles away from us.

    All quiet tonight.

Yes WN we still have our trusty V70 we did think about replacing it as we had to spend £500’ on it just before Christmas and it’s cost us a bit of money over the past couple of years but it’s never let us down and is a brilliant tow car also we have replaced so many bits on it that there isn’t much else to go wrong with it (touch wood) so plan is to have it another couple of years any way. Had it a long time now and we are both quite attached to it hehe

Our  daughter still has OH's V40 now coming up on 22 years old, and loves it dearly.   It has cost her a bit over the years, but only has about 90k  miles on the clock, and has never failed her completely.

Having been given it free, she can afford to keep it going.....less expensive than a similar quality and load carrying new car!

You are doing the opposite to us......we try to avoid school hols and bank hols......too busy for us , and far too expensive on CAMC sites!

We will, unfortunately, be away over Easter, but will be using CLs, CCC sites, and smaller commercial sites, the CAMC prices of £30+ are way too much for us.

After that we will head off south in mid June, be in England/Wales on CLs or CCC sites when the Scottish schools go on  holiday, and return home in mid/late July,  before the English schools break up.

Last year we headed north in late August/September as DD was on maternity leave, but this year she will be back at work, so we will combine the September  weekend with the October week, as we have childcare to take into account, but have not yet decided where to go.

Hopefully that will give us at least 12 weeks away in total .

We love north Wales too, it is always, to a greater or lesser degree, on our itinerary as we have friends in Ruthin to visit every year.  Could be a destination for September as well as June/July.

Yeah KJ they are great cars ours is a 59 reg so 12 years old but only had one owner before us and has a full service history and we have kept this up using a Voltech in Glasgow who have been great. It suits our needs it’s a big V70 so plenty of space and it’s fairly economical for being such a big car and it tows our van effortlessly

    Just had a t-t-terrible Half Hour listening to footy on Radio Stoke  surprised  Got the Christmas Goodies via Hermes yesterday and got them neatly wrapped and delivered after finishing the ironing today.   Since they were 'silly Christmas Socks' I had the daft idea of listening to the Alex playing CH-Ch-Charlton Athletic - but it seems, from the commentators any way, that the greatest fun was trying to work out what the blazes the ref was playing at { From all accounts it wasn't football  yell }

Still the " Lucky Socks " appeared to turn the trick and t'Alex scraped a 2 ~~ 1 win  so I'll be sleeping the sleep of the innocent shortly   winklaughingsmile

    Happy days are here again . . . . . . . . . .

We also use/used Voltech.  We had a 940 for about 14 years, great tow car, then an XC90 from 2007,  which unfortunately was a bit of a lemon.

Since our first Volvo in 1972, we have had a total of 10 Volvos, I think, all owned from new, and the XC 90 had more go wrong with it than all the other ones put together!

So much so that we have switched allegiance to VW, now have a 2016 Touareg, which has been good so far.   Also not happy that Volvo is now owned by the Chinese.

    KjellNN,

Keep telling us about the Good, the Bad and the Ugly  as far as cars go, please.  I might, and I stress MIGHT , change from the moho  before I get  very much older, depending on various factors and such-like.

      Thank You,

Brian......we are happy with our VW, SIL has one too, and when her Volvo V40 has to go, DD will probably also buy a  VW.    We cannot afford anything more "upmarket" .

DS drives an ancient Audi, DIL a  Honda or a Mazda

We also like the Japanese  offerings at present,  but with the switch to EVs.....who knows!

We also have a 2 seater Smart, which has a good driving position for those of us with dodgy knees, but not so good now we have 2 small grand children to look after 3 days per week.  And the  very small wheels do not like the craters that seem to be everywhere these days!!!

We mainly buy new, have had a couple of pre- registered ones with 10-20 miles on the clock,  but we do like to keep a car for at least 10 years, so cost evens out over that time.

Hopefully you will be able to continue with your MH for some years yet.  We have looked at MHs a couple of times now, but the ever increasing prices are pretty much putting one out of reach for us now, unless we remortgage the house.     Our 2008 caravan will also be our last.

What a lovely surprise in the post, this morning - a card from our caravan dealers with our actual van on it! Whatever the cynics may say, it was still a kind gesture.  (They only knew I had been in hospital because I'm in the middle of arranging for them to do a repair on the Truma boiler) Thank you Adventure Leisure Vehiclessmile

Another of those cracking days, although the fog horns have been sounding since approx 0500 hrs this morning as the IOW is shrouded in fog.

It is quite surreal seeing the ferries suddenly appear from out of the fog or disappear into it. Lots of people swimming and paddle boarding this morning and despite all the doom mongers re polluted seas, the Solent was crystal clear, just needs the temperature to rise by 10 degs.laughingSolar panels generated 4kw thus far today, long may it continue, ideal day for doing lots of washing of dog bedding, towels etc for use in the caravan, long time since we took 2 dogs away in the caravan, happy days laughing

this picture is our old dog, 10 years, he is a Heinz 57, cross Westie, Beagle, Chihuahua, lots of folk think he is a Tibetan Terrier, was a dodgy Internet buy, but my OH could not resist him, but he is a great dog and loves being away in the caravan.

Our pup is a Lab/working cocker cross from my daughters young bitch, she wanted her to have puppies before doing the dreadful deed, when scanned vet said 6 puppies, 7 popped out, 6 were sold before birth so we said we would have No.7 , she already has 2 dogs so to keep another would have been too much, so now we have a race to see who is going to get the best seats in the house, my chair is strictly out of bounds to everybody except me laughing

I think we are going to have some interesting times in the caravan, but i have to say a Lab - Cocker cross does seem to work very well, he is very quick to learn, almost 6 months old now, did consider puppy classes but he does not need that, and living 5 minutes from beach means he meets lots of other dogs, so he has adapted very well, just more lead training is required, but Spaniels are renowed for pulling, or so i am told.

Cant imagine life without a dog, or 2, even if they do bog all the best seats and bedscool

Beautiful red sky tonight but getting very cold. We ventured out to some gardens today, although the sun was out the gardens were too low down and sheltered to get warmed up. Nice to see some plants starting to flower, but not many were risking it! I think we're in for a very frosty night again.

A bit of holiday planning going on here. I have been in touch with three CLs but only got a response from one, luckily it was the first one I wanted for an early trip out so that one is booked and two more to go for a later trip. I nearly missed another small site till I discovered all their systems had been knocked out in the NE storms, so I've managed a booking there too. Very slowly putting a few trips together....

Good to hear you're home Richard, hope things go well.

We've been contacted about opening our garden (along with others) in the summer for local fund raising. We're all two years behind on this one so fingers crossed it will go ahead. 🌻🌼

I had a medication review recently and as a result I’ve been told that my cholesterol is out of balance, too much bad not enough good.

Ive had a devil of a job getting a prescription made up. My telephone consultation was last Thursday and I was told to pick up my prescription on the Monday. I went to the pharmacy on Monday as instructed only to be told that although the prescription was there they hadn’t the medication in stock, come back tomorrow.

I went back on the Tuesday to be told that the prescription was only sent through on last Friday and it wouldn’t be ready until Wednesday. When I said that the prescription was with them on the Monday but they hadn’t any in stock I was told that’s not right we’ve always got this in stock.

I finally got hold of the pills yesterday. It used to be so much simpler when you went to see the doctor and they gave you a paper prescription to take to the chemist who counted out the pills while you waited. Half an hour tops, job done.

Nowadays computers have made it much more complicated and what used to take half an hour now takes almost a week. Now that’s progress!

To make matters worse I’ve discovered that statins and alcohol are not good bedfellows and I’ll have to drastically reduce my alcohol consumption . What a bummer!

Had freezing fog first thing today so thought not much to do outside then sun came out so a bit more washing was done only an hour later back to freezing fog grr, forecast says sun all day tomorrow so will see, as not keen on freezing fog, birds finding it difficult to get food from the ground and the red squirrel was up a field maple tree this morning eating the seeds as ground to hard.
