Thank you all for the kind comments about the Ducky & it's age,  but I'm more inclined to fret about the 'van being in good and serviceable condition when yours truly is l-o-o-n-g past it embarassed

    The one thing about the 'van is the height of the front ( Driver & passenger ) seats . Got a reminder of that today.  Took it for a shake-down & reset run this afternoon -- always needed after mechanics have had it to care for yell. Radio restored to Classic F.M. Seats , having swivels under them, are too high so the shades are correspondingly too low and in January sunshine it aint easy to keep the eyes clear & focussed. Then adjust the heater, also the seat  forward / backward positioning ~~ i am under 5'11" now but the legs are no different to 20 years ago ! { At least I still fit my trousers ok for length AND girth laughing. then adjust the seat belt pillar mounting - damn near throttled when I started off  frown.  By the time I am fully satisfied it might be time for the next service { Debit / Credit cards just started trembling again  surprised }

Why do garage people feel the need to adjust, seats, mirrors, heating etc. With electrical adjustment I never seem to be able to get the seat back to the exact position it was prior to the sevice/mot test! When I had my own repair shop it was only necessary to adjust the seat position if I could not fit between seat and steering wheel !

When they need to manoeuvre or road test drive the vehicle then they need such things to be correct, surely undecided.  Especially as the firm I use is in a fairly old part of town where streets are narrow  and also I did  mention earlier that it was c c cold and had been snowing, so the heating needed to be functioning across the wind screen & side windows.

My chair was bought online - my daughter-in-law helped my husband find it. He knew what I had and what I wanted. It's large, padded (arms as well) darkish brown leather and goes perfectly with the desk (a large old Partners Desk), and the rest of the mixed jumble of furniture in the kitchen. I don't know anywhere round here where we could buy one in person.

🥶🥶🥶🥶 We are away, and it’s f f f freezing outside. Nice in MH though, times like this is good to have a furry companion to hug. The pooch is enjoying himself as well.😁

If people ever wondered how people make money from Social Media I came across this yesterday which goes a long way to explaining it in simple terms. The guy is an electrician and mainly posts videos of jobs that he does for customers explaining why they are done in a certain way. Useful if you are thinking of doing the same. Whilst the figures look impressive I think it points out that to make a living from it is not as easy as is sometimes portrayed. Anyway, if interested, take a look https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HilR07bBF1Q&t=491s

    Morning

I know a couple of youtubers DK that make a good bit doing like you describe, one's a plumber and the other's a landscape gardener. Not got the skill or patience meundecided

This afternoon it's out with the sealant gun to finish of as I've decorated reception, back office and bathroom (including tiling). Saved the best 'til last, tomorrow it's a workshop refurb. I've brought stacks of cupboards and shelving back from Spain to install, just hope this wind and rain has gone by morning!

Gosh JK you know how to enjoy yourself but know these chores have to be done before the new season.

A very hard frost this morning and very foggy and the ducks were quacking outside the door 8am just a bit earlier for me today although awake once up they got their food think they maybe a lot plumper by the time Mike and Cath come back this weekend, local bread man came around 10.30am and he does great bread and croissants yum.

Hooray the sun has just come out but still very chilly no frost here tonight and looks like it will get damper over the weekend as we are packing up to go home on Monday.

I run my steam powered website which whilst it is increasingly expensive I can do it at my own pace and without the distraction of any reward!!! I think that if you want to make money out of things like YouTube you have to be pretty dedicated to it. There are quite a few caravanning and motorhoming channels out there, but I doubt many make any more than pocket money? To have a decent channel you also need decent equipment which will be costly and you also have to have film editing skills to make them look passably professional. I admire the determination of those that clearly spend many hours producing and updating their channel.

Funny you should say that, as it's exactly the same here!!wink

Hard frost for 2 nights on the trot, but it does mean that what was muddy ground is much better for walking on. Had a walk yesterday along the escarpment to Burton and today around the Flats, getting back to the van just as the weather changed to sleet and rain. Spent last night chewing the fat, over the odd drink, with a couple of good friends.

I hope you manage to keep warm TDA and nellie. It is freezing here. We have been on a U3A church visit this afternoon. It started to rain on the way there which quickly developed into snow and sleet but luckily not too heavy. Thankfully the church was surprisingly well heated. It was a lovely and interesting church and they provided a very nice tea. Although we had to sit well distanced and wear our masks when not eating it was lovely to see everyone again. Some are friends of long standing from our walking group and another lady was a neighbour when we were teenagers. It is our gt grandon's 2nd birthday today. Our grand-daughter has sent us some lovely photos and a video and we shall go and see him on Saturday afternoon.

Snowing here, or rather sleet, as we set off out. Our immaculate timing as usual🤣 Supposed to have been a bike ride this morning, but far too cold. We just had a run out in Jeep, took a picnic. We found the spot where the Romans crossed the Humber, then had a run down Estuary to a little wildlife reserve. Managed a dry walk, but it was absolutely nithering along the estuary banks, even with full Winter gear on.

Will be deploying good old fashioned heating method tonight, a hot water bottle. We keep a small oil filled radiator on in cab area, but can’t stand other heating on overnight. Even dog had a blanket on last night.

Stay warm the TDAs and the Nellies! Sounds like a nice place to visit.

Thanks DK and Goldie about the office chairs, I've been looking on line and can't make up my mind but I've been with a physio today and I think perching on an uncomfortable chair isn't a good idea any more.

It's chilly and damp in our area, the frosts didn't linger and I don't think we'll see any snow.

I had a look at the newly released 1921 census today, it costs £3.50 to download an entry. One interesting thing is that it gives more details about work, not just the job but what it involves eg my grandfather at a chemical works, it lists the chemicals in production. (Or as he used to tell us " a bit of carbon didn't hurt anyone...meaning for us, burnt toast, eat it up! I don't think we took his advice....wink)

Well there won't be a lot of sympathy heading Scunthorpe way from here. Silly blighters.🤣🤣 I've heard a hot toddy can work wonders for keeping you warm and too many of them means you don't care one way or the other! Enjoy the trip.

Looking to get a few days away in a week or so time ourselves.

Bitter wind today with some lashings of rain/sleet so a bit of internal work done on the house. Decided to start going shopping in the evening again as the local C19 figures are too high and around about 6.30 ish there seems to be a lull in footfall. So we managed to do both Aldi and Tesco and back home in half an hour.

Really cold here last couple of days OHs meds ran out yesterday and tracked prescription  via Royal Mail not arrived short of staff at depot  because of covid?,got car out to pick it up from depot ,telling OH to stay put until I got back,

When at depot met  one of our neighbours who is a ward sister at our local hospital she was saying that some of the staff that are off ,are quite regularly phoning in sick?

I can remember when I lived in Sheffield my past FIL was a manager at  a steel rolling mill, and he used to say that the only days they were fully staffed was on the Thursday and Friday and if  weekend overtime was available, Thursday being pay day?and weekends at overtime rates

The ward sister wished staff at the NHS were still weekly paid as they would probably be better staffed

Parcel of meds were out for delivery and have just arrived at 1555,

Same here JVB....  and managed to leave my coat in a school hall 25 miles away...  Had the job of going to collect it this morning....  I've grown out of my other coats since I have been on a diet...  Mind you, I've put a bit back on over Christmas (no surprise  there then!! 😃😃) - but I'm gradually getting back on track.

Been very cold here lately, and this morning we woke to at least 10cm of snow......enough to cause traffic chaos apparently.

SIL had to go to work, but Callum was allowed to stay home from nursery to play in the snow.

DD was coming up to help me in the garage but we told her not to  venture out as  cars  were being abandoned on the road up to here......we are quite high up compared to where she is.

Garden was like a Christmas card scene, but most snow is gone off the trees now due to some sun, but still plenty in the streets.

We have to go out tomorrow afternoon, so hopefully a bit of a thaw before then.

Nothing so dramatic down here in North Wales except for the deep frost this morning which made walking treacherous. We turned back after 100 yards and went this afternoon when the sun had got at it. It did turn wet with hail after 3 pm and it's been very cold all day but, hey, it's winter. Wonder how Sunny Scunny is?undecidedsmile

Been busy sorting out appointments for various things before getting sent to the kitchen.

😁 It was a touch icy this morning, the black kind, so in the interests of not wishing to burden the local NHS, cycling was called off again. It had warmed up enough to turn everything glutinous by lunch time though. We headed off to Beverly for a look around the Minster. Good choice, only us, masked up, another couple, masked up, and two volunteers, so we had a really good poke around the misericords (oo-er missis🤣), a chuckle at some of the wonderful carvings, and found 7 of 9 Robert Thompson mice! The lovely town was almost empty as well, so we did pop into one or two shops, and then gave the pooch a stroll on the Westwood. Bonus of course is you get to cross the Humber Bridge as well. It’s glacial again tonight, lots of stars out, so fingers crossed it won’t be a muddy last walk.🤞

Well it was for a while, although there has been the odd rain shower. Could see snow showers passing to the north from Barton around lunch time, but guess they didn't touch Beverley, reading tda's post. We had a wander around Waters Edge Nature reserve after doing our shopping at the new Lidl.

We liked Beverley Cathedral on our one and only visit there some years ago. We'd gone to Cottingham to pick up a Swift caravan that they were putting back together after delamination and they had poked a hole in the bodywork when cleaning it for us so we were asked to go away for a few hours whilst they fixed it.

So chose Beverley, which I recently discovered had been so named due to the numbers of beavers found in the area when naming rights were given.

Nice to hear about the visits.

Ahh, names from the past, Cottingham and Beverley! Spent four happy years in Cottingham and it was customary to take the train to Beverley on a Saturday night to have a few drinks in Nellie's bar at the White Horse Inn.

Many happy memories, actually the memories are crystal clear of going but a little fizzy about coming back for some reason.

"Beaver Lake" - WN (or was it Beaver Layke??).  I was born there in the no-longer-there Beverley Westwood Hospital, lived in North Bar Without for a while.  Later moved to Leconfield before we moved out to the coast 9 years ago.
