What are you all up to

Always seems a bit dreary when the decs come down Millie! In between some very stormy showers we crawled around the garden unhooking the Christmas lights. One lot left to go, the icicles along the roof are more of a challenge! Spoke to family in the north on Whatsapp, long chat with grandson as he showed us his new fully assembled lego set, also shown new bird....our son is keen on birds, I'm just hoping he doesn't get too many! 🐦
Yesterday I thought I'd look at a few holiday possibilities, it took so long to work out dates etc I soon reached a full stop, half booked and not knowing what to do! It looks as though I'll have to re-arrange lots of dental appointments which are already running late due to delays at the surgery. I tried to find a new dentist but they seem to be in very short supply round here. However it's much better than the start to last year...I hope!
Hope your Mum is ok TDA. One of our old neighbours, who finally moved nearer to family has developed dementia, such a good job they are near the help they need.
Sounds like a nice "menu" tonight WN, hope you're efforts go down well.

If I'd only known Millie I would have made more.
Must admit I do make a decent fishcake and make a baked bean dish to go with it but with bits of spicy chorizo in it and a 5 bean mixture rather than the 1. A bit of a faff but there's always left overs for the freezer. The only problem with fishcakes it that it's time consuming but I don't mind when I have some spare time.
MiL feeling sorry for me being stuck in the kitchen so she offered to give me one day per week off and do the cooking for us all. Had to break the news gently to her that I do it for Self Preservation.
God bless her.

Happy New Year to all. Didn't have chance to check in yesterday as we spent the day in MK with eldest son. They were sorting through all the baby clothes, wow they have so many!! I wonder if the baby will actually get to wear all of them!
The plan is to take down our tree and decorations tomorrow too, although may leave the battery powered fairy lights up, we've had 2 power cuts since Christmas and they have provided welcome light. Western Power spent the afternoon and well into the evening the other day digging up the path and replacing some damaged cable, just hoping it's now fixed.
Brue, we have also tried to sort some holidays today, but didn't get very far, only managed to book one weekend so far.
Millie - glad you had a nice day with the family
Wherenext - the fish cakes and beans sound delicious.

One CL we had planned to use is closed at present awaiting certification, we will contact them to ask what the prospects are for them being open by mid/late April, but we cannot delay booking for too long.
Kjell, which one is that, as we will be looking at CLs in Scotland for a trip later in the year, and would keep my eye on it re opening. Cheers.

Ref your second paragraph when we had a major power cut at FM earlier this year,I asked the men repairing the fault and it and they said they spend the majority of their time patching underground cables as most of the infrastructure is old, and in need of complete replacement even on new estates the new cables still are joined to the old infrastructure,,

Helen, the daughter and OH of friends also had an enormous pile of baby clothes, all sorted....except when the baby arrived late November he was enormous too so all the tiny sizes were abandoned.
Hope all goes well with the new arrival in your family.

Good to hear from you H&T. Hope the electric fault is fixed and you have no more outs.
Sounds a good day with the family, milie.
Hope your mum is ok, tda. Did you manage to get much work done in the garden?
Another pleasant day after more rain in the night, but cooler with a bit of wind. Visited Bolsver Castle this morning, which was busier than we expected, and then had a walk along the Stockley Trail, one of the reclaimed pit railway lines that criss cross this old mining district. Short shower of rain just as we returned to the car, but the sun came out again not long after we got back to the van.

Yes, we have been there a couple of times, and would certainly use again. Might be worth a phone call to see if/when they expect to be open.

We noticed that a few CLs were late getting their certification when trying to book them early last year but they all ended up with one by March. Maybe it's a time of year thing.
Forgot to wish Helen and Trevor good luck and best wishes for birth of Grandbaby, so belated best wishes.

Happy New Year to Helen and Trevor. Good luck with the expected grandchild. It sounds like he/she will have to have 3 changes of clothes a day to manage to wear all those clothes!
Hope all those trying to book trips away manage to sort dates etc . We have just booked a week in a static with a sea view on a site at Runton nr Cromer for June. That is as far as we have got so far.

Time to start taking the Christmas decs down. Had a wonderful few weeks, started with our 50th, then Christmas, Boxing day, New Year. Celebrated mostly at home, in the caravan, down the beach house. Have played some of those family classics, Ring on a String, UNO, Coppit, and not forgetting the After Eight Mint game
. Spanish daughter off to Scotland today for a few days before returning home. Bungalow is going to seem very quiet, but role on March when we hope to be trundling down to Spain for a few months in the caravan, dogs already had first round of jabs. Another of those non sun days today, but not cold and reasonably dry so all good. Did attend the New Years day swim at the local life boat station on the Solentr, but did not venture in, although i have swam when it has been much colder both in and out of the water

Daughter and family came for dinner yesterday, she brought a friend with her and we had a most enjoyable day. We have lived here for 36 years and our house backs onto a large wood. For all of that time we have encouraged the birds into the garden. Throughout our lunch her friend was intently watching the birds, he said some he hadn’t seen for years. We all finished eating way before him, as he was so interested in our wildlife. We never take them for granted but he did remind us that all these years of feeding them has paid off, it is often like Piccadilly Circus on our many feeders, with so many varieties visiting. We recently visited a bird hide at a NT place, we didn’t stay long as there was nowhere near the variety on view that we have in the garden.

We are similar Debsc, although probably not as rurally based as you. Feed a variety of stuff, plenty of water points, and chase off the cats and it’s amazing what will visit. We are fortunate in that us and most of our neighbours have hedges and mature gardens, so there’s lots of natural food variety and nesting/roosting opportunities. We have a big park and woodland close by as well, for different visitors.
Nice morning here, sunny and bright.

Sunny and warmish day up here. Took down the outside lights and Mrs C was proved right once again. When putting them up I couldn't find the spare EHU cable that I use with a waterproof box to feed the gardens lights, I looked everywhere but in the end I had to buy a new waterproof cable extension but Mrs C said I would find the old cable when I put the lights away. Guess what first thing I found this morning?
Another notable event today is that I received a 'personalised' email from the education secretary no less asking me to consider going back into the classroom to help out with the expected teacher shortage. The local teaching supply agencies have been asking too.
I mean it's nice of him to send me an email on a BH and it is easy money but...

Took the outside Christmas lights down yesterday and all the internal decs and cards down to day. All the lights and decs back up in the loft, that is becoming the worst part of it, getting them in and out of the loft! Must buy a lighter ladder, perhaps one of those concertina ladders would be the thing to go for as the one I am currently using is made of steel and very heavy!!!

We took all our Christmas decs down today as well and they are back up in the loft. I have vowed that when they come down next year they will go in the garage after Christmas. They will NOT be going back in the loft again!

After storing everything in the shed last year we've found Christmas far less stressful.

All our decorations went back into the loft, looks as though it was a popular occupation today.
A few years back we bought a new drop down extending ladder for the loft with flat wooden steps, it's been great to use. But the contents of the loft worries me and we need to clear it out this year.

Thanks Brue, I had the same situation with baby clothes, had sorted all the clothes for youngest son but when he was born he weighed in at 9 and a half pounds, he when straight into the baby clothes for 3-6 months

We were glad we cleared our loft out before Covid struck. Charity shops got most of it with a few bits and pieces going to the tip.
A nice, dry and sunny morning with a cool breeze so a good walk which turned out longer than we anticipated but quite glad of the stretching of the legs.
Trying to sort out, between interruptions from neighbours, a break away for MiL, both for her birthday at the end of March and for her summer one now that she has decided that she'd rather go to cottages in the UK. Will get her to make a decision on the options soon. Then I might be able to sort something out for ourselves.
Congrats Rufs on your 50th.👍

All our decorations and lights have also been packed away today, luckily it stayed dry while taking the outside ones down. Hoping to plant the tree in the garden this year, although not sure where to put it as the garden isn't very big.
Housework all done too, I broke a wine glass and had thought I'd got all the bits up, but still found small bits of glass when hoovering.

Apparently, so I've been told, ours are coming down tomorrow.... Carol will set the grandchildren on the task.... 😃. We have a tiny bedroom upstairs which we use as a store - mainly for caravan stuff - but it also houses Christmas decorations. Much easier than the loft.
Today, I've also booked a 3 night stay up at Chatsworth. It'll be the first time there for us. Looking forward to seeing the site and revisiting the area - not too far for us to go....

We bought a drop down ladder for.our loft a while ago brue but we don't have the luxury of flat wooden treads! I had the conversation with OH about clearing our loft while we were putting the decs away. He didnt look desperately enthusiastic 😁. We seem to have every suitcase we have ever bought during our married life up there for some reason 😳.
I didnt get round to the housework Helen as I decided to do some more tidying in the garden instead. I just did a quick vacuum. The rest will have to wait until Wednesday.

I always put the garden before housework if the weather is fine Millie😁 Mind we did both today, took decs down. We are lucky, proper stairs up to attic, and we have storage built in under eaves now, so not a difficult job. House always looks bigger somehow once Xmas decorations are down.
A Mum day for me tomorrow, we shall enjoy a ride out in car with a packed lunch, do a few errands, including buying some Winter bedding if our local nursery is open. Hoping we might get away for a few nights end of this week, will have to see if my Sister is ok, she’s been a tad under weather over New Year.🤞
It’s crawling with Police at the moment around us. Not exactly sure what is going on, but they have been around since New Year’s Eve. Apparently, there was some kind of big gang fight happened, and some of the miscreants ran away towards our area. I had no idea SY had so many police officers as when you want one they are always too busy, but the helicopter has been over as well. The resident drug Lord (we all know who he is) will be quaking in his boots, all this attention won’t be good for business. Fingers crossed he gets his comeuppance🤞

I think that there are 5 H/S pitches. It's a struggle to get a TV signal there, if I remember correctly, and not sure if WiFi was much better. However that would not put us off using the site again.

Lovely sunny but cool windy morning, ideal for getting the washing out, or so OH thought. Just got back from our morning walk and the rain came!
Occasional showers throughout the afternoon but we did manage another walk mainly in the dry. Last night here before we head on to our next CL, and I was able to book the one after that this afternoon.
