Oh so very dangerous H & T !!
I dropped my Pyrex Porridge bowl and, apart from sounding like a WW2 bomb going off ***, it became more splinters and shards than I could throw a stick at -- just glad I never, ever walk round my kitchen without some form of footwear !!
*** just goes to shew what has been on telly-box over the holiday period

Took the decs down on Sunday here and now all in a large reusable Amazon box we found in Mike's barn, at home we have two containers in the top of our large cupboard in the bedroom no loft space here as a modern bungalow and only the older houses have usuable loft space, we put in a new loft entrance last year in the hall as the old one was in the lounge and had to take curtain rail down to get the ladder down so the new one a folding metal ladder with flat rungs much better, OH goes up if he needs to do any wiring etc.
A very wet day here and windy same over night and kept us awake with all the creaking of the roof space, the 2 nighter MV went about 8.40am today glad I got up early and got the chain across the entrance sorted, they have a long trrip to Dieppe for an evening sailing back to the UK.

Just sat reading my morning paper and found this use of technology rather amazing.
REMBRANDT’S masterpiece The Night Watch can be examined as never before thanks to the largest digital image of an artwork, on the Rijksmuseum website.
As part of a mammoth research project, the 1642 portrait of Amsterdam’s civic guard marching out to defend the city can now be seen online in pin-sharp detail.
The Rijksmuseum in the Dutch capital, which has been studying the work behind a glass box since the summer of 2019, has now shared a composite image made up of 8,430 photographs.

Can sympathise with all the loft comments, ours is full of stuff as OH is a hoarder. We keep saying it must be sorted, then we put it off. Tried to do it in lockdown but the charity shops were shut and a shame to throw it away. Still have a lot of our (very grown up) children’s toys up there! They never seemed to want them for their children so really time they went.
Bad nights sleep last night, not helped by next doors recycling blowing all up the street as a bit windy. Tin cans do rattle as they blow. She never seems to push it down in the provided bags, which are rather useless, we often have her packaging in our front garden. Overslept and all blown well away from us by the morning though. Our son has one big bin for everything, we do envy him. We seem to have a bag or a small bin for all different items.

Before we had wheelie bins for our recycling it was quite a regular occurrence for us to be woken up with the bags of recycling being dragged down the road by foxes when trying to open them, as were the normal domestic rubbish, bags but not so loud

As I posted elsewhere a few calls this morning asking me to do some supply work, Mrs C said that it was like Dad's Army. I asked her what character I was, expecting perhaps Wilson, and she said Godfrey
At least it wasn't Jones.

Thanks Steve, that so interesting looking at the details. If I can I always walk right up close to paintings to see what's going on to produce the distant effect. Lots of galleries and museums have interesting on line "exhibits" if you can't get there in person. The Rembrandt painting is remarkable in it's effects, all that shining fabric is one example.
Just heard we have lost someone in our village due to Covid, a seemingly fit and healthy person, sad news.
Normally we have a social event at our garden club, but it won't go ahead.
Corners I can hear the children back at school today, lots of happy voices from the playground! I hope schools can cope over the next few weeks but I think it's going to be a struggle.

watched a snippet of news yesterday where one Headmaster was talking about creating booster classes, i.e. rolling 2 or 3 classes into one using e.g. 2 teachers and using space such as the sports hall as classrooms rather send childred home, at least somebody is thinking out of the box .
really cold today and showery but managed to walk the dogs without getting too wet, some daffodils out in the garden in the sheltered areas, surprised they have not got webbed petals

Yes sad news and brings it home.
and yes if they're phoning me they must be desperate!

OH asked me "what are we going to do with all the suitcases up there?"
So we're in a similar situation not to mention bits of furniture and boxes of ornaments that have family attachments but will never see the light of day again etc etc However we've done quite well for field mice up there, we caught eight over a few weeks, releasing them back whence they came. Apparently they leave a scent trail when climbing up walls so OH sprayed the outside walls with disinfectant, this seems to have worked. We are lucky, our neighbours have been invaded by squirrels, eleven so far, damaging electrics and insulation. But I did wonder, as we could hear the mice how anyone could miss the sound of eleven squirrels!!?

My sons obviously think of our loft as shared space!!! Modern house can't have lofts? The eldest one its all his University degree stuff, soon mounts up when you do 3 or 4 of them!!! The youngest has a large suitcase full of his old F1 race gear from his now defunct previous team. Probably make a fortune on Ebay but he won't let me sell it!!!

We still have our 50+ son's Hornby train sets in our loft, and his Scalextric (never can spell that!). We asked several times for them to be removed, then his wife said yes, she would take them and dispose of them!
We declined the kind offer, DD will be taking it all for her 2 lads in a couple of years. She has a very large hallway....terrible waste of space......so possibilities there for a good layout, and a huge open plan living area, so I think will have the space for it all.
Living in a ground floor conversion of a 100 year old extended villa, she has no loft, but great cupboard space. She also has a double garage with a pitched roof, so I have floored the loft in it, and fitted a ladder......sturdy wooden fold down one with its own hatch cover......so great storage out there now.
The ladder, though heavy, is easy to use as it has springs to assist with stowing it.

Thanks Steve. Really liked that. We're heading over that way, hopefully, this Spring and will be able to get a train into Amsterdam so may visit if C19 quietens down.
A day that seems to have flown by. Brisk early morning walk then off to buy some caravanning stuff including an electric point that we want to put in the side of the 'van. Quick lunch and then more searching of holidays. Booked a ferry, yahoo. Plans. Will they be met?
Narrowed MiLs holiday choices down a bit as well. Still more to go. She received holiday brochures ordered in November from a couple of companies today. One went in the bin unopened for Europe and the other followed soon after. So looks like I'll be the Travel Agent.

Dropped the Ducato in by 08.15 today ~~ short chat with senior chief mech ( The Owner & an old mate from BT, in our prime-days ). Walked home steadily.
Phone call at 15.40 -- MOT Passed, full service done & vehicle battery replaced under Warranty
.
Walked back to garage, got a little snow on my specs but all seemed well.
Had a good chat with Mate & his Daughter ( Senior Office Manager / telephonist ) She produced all the paperwork & the machine for the payment
not really too bad but at least the warranty exchange on the battery helped
~~ a 2 year old battery but down to 30% of supposed capacity, glad I did not do any long 'Off Grid ' stuff this year past (Sorry Merve
)

We must have had a little snow over night, but nearly all gone by the morning, with bright sunshine although it was freezing cold. We moved onto another of our favourite sites today, with an easy run from Old Brampton to College Farm at Alkborough. Only one other van on, although it has been full over the New Year according to the site owner.
Good result with the Ducato, Brian.👍

Getting more & more scary by the year, Nell !! 2012 Reg & I've had it since Feb '14 so eight years an ABM vehicle, and that is the longest I have kept any vehicle -- Even the Bambi was released from service after seven years, so it could well be a straight race 'tween the ducky & yours truly as to which says " Enough" first !!

Glad your Ducky passed ABM. Great when they sail through. Don’t fret too much about it being an older vehicle. Our MH is 20 years old now, and in the eight years we have had her, has passed every MOT👍

Same here, David. I could really do with getting up the loft and having a big clear out..... However, the spirit is willing, but the flesh..... 🤣🤣 I'm actually not sure that even the spirit is willing at this moment in time.....

Margaret got me a new office chair for Christmas. It was delivered at 6.50am this morning in the dark!!!! Worst still we got a phone call 10/15 mins before the delivery so we have been up a lot earlier than normal and I am yawning as I type this! Way too early for me. It is still sitting in its box in the hall as after breakfast we went out for a walk as it was such a lovely day, if a bit chilly. Might tackle it after lunch or just look at the box with good intentions

My husband bought me a new office chair for my Birthday a fortnight ago. I thought it would be fiddly to set up - but it was a one man job. I've set the height and tilt etc to suit me, but I think someone (my son) is adjusting it for someone taller. It's very comfy and doesn't squeak like the old one.

How did you choose your chairs?! I'm sitting on my Dad's old chair, which is a very uncomfortable windsor type chair, even he used to pad it out with pillows and cushions, I know why now, it's useless as a work chair!! I've kept it for sentimental reasons, I'll pass it on to a grandchild who'll no doubt discover it's limitations as they age....
I had an office chair when working and always felt ok using it. I think I need another. I don't like them as pieces of furniture but my back probably would....

Oh this did make me smile ..and brought back memories. I suffer from a bad back and my chair at work was set, height and tilt especially for my back. The problem was I also worked out of the office and staff visiting from other offices would often alter the chair settings when using my desk. After getting fed up with my many moans and groans while I then tried to re-set it my colleagues would warn them not to change it on pain of death. A few months after starting a new member of staff in our office confided to me that he had been wary of me at first, it seemed that on his first day he sat in my chair, went to change it and 3 members of staff shouted at the same time, ‘Don’t touch that! You will be in trouble’. It took a few days for him to realise I wasn’t an ogre! Just fussy about my chair.

That's the trouble with putting the decorations away. It reminds you of all the other stuff that should be cleared out.

A day of paying out lots of deposits!
Sorted MiLs cottage holidays out today and also booked a cottage for her 89th.birthday in March. She would quite happily fly to Italy for a holiday but only if I hired a private jet. Yeah, like that's going to happen.
So North Yorkshire and Lake District it is. Also booked a service for the caravan but that's not until July but the workshop does get busy very quickly.
Out for a walk in some pleasant sunshine this morning even though the temperature was just above freezing. Light dusting of snow on the cars on the drive but they weren't moving today. The sun brought out some songbirds who are beginning to set up territories. The local Woodpecker is hammering away every day now.

The main difficulty we had was finding one in stock!!! We had seen one in JL we liked when we were in the MK store but both colours out of stock. They have a facility to inform when they come back into stock which we did. In the meantime they said would you like to consider this one that happened to be discounted in their Sale and the same price as the one we wanted so we ordered it. Murphy's law being what it is as soon as we ordered it the original one came back into stock.
I put it together this afternoon and am sitting on it typing this! It's a bit higher than the old one which had lost its ability to be pumped up higher. Time will tell?
