Good to hear folk have had a decent day.
After all the hiccups before hand we did have an enjoyable day.
My sister and BIL came to us for lunch, we had a good video catch up with our 2 sons and families.
My niece is now once again on speaking terms with her OH
and her step son now back home with his mother, both of which are now in isolation. Niece and her OH doing daily tests until they can get a PCR done tomorrow. All is well
We've had a long catch up phone call today with an old army chum. Strange how having not spoken to each other for over 35 years nothing has changed, if you know what I mean.
Weather was great yesterday cold but dry and sunny, today we are back to grey skies and drizzle.

Miserable day weather wise, with thick mist and drizzle, after snow through the night which left a scattering on the ground when we got up. Walks along the local lanes again from the site but thankfully we didn't get wet, apart from Flyte that is.

I just could not face a winter walk in the Cumbria area this month, Nellie !
Heard / read on BBC that one walker on the hills slipped and broke her ankle ~~ carried down to the ambulance by Rescue volunteers and yet another man { I think } dropped and lost his specs so could not read his maps
Struggled to the top of what ever he was stood on from where they guided him back down - no opticians open on the 25th believe me

Excellent day yesterday, food was delicious, not too many leftovers.
DD and SIL had prepared almost everything the night before, so OH only had to do a few sprouts when we got down there at 10.30.
Our task then was to play with the grandchildren while the parents finished their tidying and table setting. Son and family arrived at 12.45, and we sat down to eat by 1.30.
After present opening we had enough space for dessert and coffee, then it was time for the visitors to head home. Later we had a visit from the in-laws for a few drinks. And after they left and the children were asleep, the "boys" beat the "girls" at Trivial Pursuit.
It was a relatively quiet day, but very enjoyable.
Having managed to fit most of our presents, and our share of the leftovers, into the Smart, today we headed home late afternoon. No plans for the rest of the year as yet.

Our home seems very quiet after the family left yesterday following a six day stay. They were able to see all the people and other family they wanted to see and go to their friend's funeral too. They managed it all by testing every day and everyone else did the same. Meanwhile the entertainments and catering committee at home kept thins going and we all had a good time.
We felt we were very lucky this time round to get seven of us together. Our elder daughter and my sister's family have had a less good time with Covid doing the rounds.
I hadn't managed to leave the house easily due to all the work involved but yesterday afternoon had a nice walk in the sunshine. Today it's raining so I'm going to enjoy not doing anything much!
Hope everyone's Christmas went well.

Happy to hear a good Christmas was had by most! Do hope all the germs/bugs/tests prove negative and all feeling better soon. Our Christmas was very quiet, too quiet?!! We could have gone down south to be with the family but the hotel stay to do that put us off. Very sad about it but too much uncertainty at present and as I have a operation coming up in January (hopefully) it seemed a safer option!

We had a quiet one as well. Mum and Sister on Xmas Day, but they were back home by 6.30pm. We made do with Xmas Day left overs (I always enjoy “twice done”) after a walk yesterday. Found some great short music videos to watch, browsed a few sale websites. Today going to hit the cycle up in the attic, then have a creative day, making some jewellery. It’s foggy and grim here, so I haven’t got the enthusiasm to get out into garden yet. Got a big Amaryllis bulb to pot up as well, present from a neighbour. Never grown one before, so fingers crossed.

Sometimes living halfway between London and Birmingham and half way between the West and East coasts of the UK has its advantages in terms of weather. Given that its been raining since Christmas Eve and has hardly stopped since I might have to reassess that advantage!!!
On Christmas Eve we decided to have a Chinese Takeaway from our usual place. We were told half an hour but when we got there they were clearly running late and we were all crammed (about 20 people) into the tiny shop which made me feel really uncomfortable. Fortunately we enjoyed the food, we will have to wait and see if we got any extras!!!
We have been on our own through Christmas, although my eldest son and his wife did come around for about an hour on Christmas Day night. We sat in the conservatory with windows open and heater on at his insistence.
I am not a great lover of American culture (if you can really call it that!) but for a few years after the last war they made some really wonderful films, some of which have been on over Christmas. Mind you as wonderful as Gene Kelly is in Singin in the Rain I can't get out of my minds eye Ernie Wise and Eric Morecambe rendition of the famous dance scene

At our local chippy David (two villages away) it's only one person allowed in at a time, either to order food or pick it up. OH had to wait in a long queue last week when he went with an order for seven..it also went wrong and took longer when various choices were not available!

So glad to hear that some of you have had a good Christmas. I am not surprised that those of you expecting to go in the hospital in the near future decided to be careful.
We were very lucky and our plans to be with our family were able to go ahead. We were all at our daughter's on Christmas day and our son's on Boxing day. We all tested every day to be on the safe side. It was so lovely to be with them all this year. We spoke to our N.Ireland family on the phone and they were spending time with friend's from the village and plan to see DIL's family who live further north sometime this week.
We usually have a Chinese take away on New Year's Eve but are wondering now how long we will have to wait. We would order is via 'Just Eat' to be delivered but would be get it before the New Year!
The weather is dreadful and has been all over the holidays. It is foggy, grey and raining. I am very envious of a friend who is spending the Christmas period with her family who live in Scotland. She sent me a photo of them on the beach (well wrapped up) in glorious sunshine.

Good to read that people were able to enjoy their Christmas. Our plans went ahead as planned we had Christmas dinner at My sisters house as planned and had a nice day. Yesterday we didn’t do much just relaxed at home the weather was terrible anyway so not a day for outside. Today we came away in the van as planned easy one hour tow up here early this afternoon site actually busier than we thought with quite a few arrivals today after us. After we got set up we headed along to Livingston as SWMBO had a jacket to change at one of the shops there. Shopping centre was absolutely mobbed so we didn’t stay long just got the jacket changed and away again. Not sure what our plans are while we are away hopefully just relax. We are having some family round to our house on Friday night to see in the new year so once we get home we will be busy getting ready got that.

The Chippy a few doors away does have a limit as well. However this Chinese seems to be a law unto itself. We have been using for almost as long as we lived in MK, probably not the same people but the food is still good. They are quite odd and I envy Millie having the option of having a delivery! Despite COVID they still only accept cash and food has to be collected. Margaret often has a problem eating too late so we tend to order as places open, it seems everyone else in the area had the same idea!!!

I think we would have had less misty and wet weather had we been in the Lakes, looking at Max and Paddy on FB, Brian. We are on the edge of the Peak District at the moment and not seen the sky for the last 4 days.

Yet another wet, misty day.
We had a quick dash down to Morrison's to get fresh milk and a few foodstuffs as we had daughter and grandson coming across at lunchtime for the afternoon. Great to see them both again and caught up with lots of family news. He helped to sort out some IT stuff for us old foggies, and daughter dropped off the chocolates that she has collected in her travels this autumn. We now have 15 different 200 gms bars and two boxes from 5 different countries, so that lot should last us for a few trips away.
Good to read that most were able to enjoy Christmas with their families.
Enjoy your time away in the van Francis.

We're like Nellie. The sky hasn't changed much in the last 3 or 4 days.
Not done a great deal today. Tidying the place up and a very easy "dinner" of left overs which we all enjoy. Finished off the last of the mince pies. So it's back to normal cooking for me tomorrow.
Christmas itself was just the three of us but a bit of a dampener as the news of family illnesses wasn't good.
Just hope 2022 is a bit more upbeat for everyone. Would be nice to just have a "normal" year. Well, maybe Robsail deserves a better one but I'll make do with a boring old sameish one from 3 years ago.

Evening
Great to hear Christmas has gone well. Having spent our winters in Spain over the last 11 years away from family and friends we looked forward to all the get togethers. We've had a fantastic time so far around east Anglia. Ate lots, laughed lots, hugged lots, cried lots, drank lots, watched rubbish tv, realised we miss having a dog (boxing day agility course with 35 dogs), and generally we've all felt after the crap 18 months we've all had that people we love are the most important things.
Left Cambs this morning on way back to north Devon to visit friends who run Cheddar site only to sit most of the day on the m5. 7 hours to do 190 miles
. Another great get together though.

JK, Not sure what the hold-up was on the M6 through Cheshire today, but as I gave the Ducato a trundle through the Knutsford area I could see three lanes heading south all stationary and some drivers out on he tarmac ! Just hope it was not the back log from JK's problem on the M5 !!
Still enjoying my time on here especially since my friends in Fuengirola or some such have just this minute called to say that they were happy *** and should be getting into Manchester Airport at about 2:45 on Thursday afternoon Boris etc permitting !!
That is assuming that they have got everything well sorted ! I say that 'cos *** the lady on the phone appeared to be utterly and totally blotto ! The Christmas meal itself was none too good, although fairly expensive, but the Liquid side of it all appears to have a lingering effect for some reason !! I think she was lucky that these mobile phones just have one button to press if they can read through the electronic directory.
lots of giggles at this end any way !!

Despatched stepson and his wife yesterday morning back to the wilds of north Somerset. Just my younger daughter and the other two grandsons to visit on NYE and we can return to semi-recluse mode and watch how Boris manages the situation. I'm getting short on excuses so I think I'll be wielding a paintbrush in the next week or so.

After three days of minimal work (cows don't know it's Christmas) it's back to reality today. I've stripped the turkey and made stock from the carcass. And there seems to be more turkey boxed up in the freezer, than there was on Christmas Day. We had an easy supper last night - my husband said "you know what I fancy? Christmas Cake and Whiskey". So that was what it was (I substituted the Bushmills for Gin}.

I did a very easy Jambalaya for us last night. Definitely going to be on the menu again, and an easy motorhome/van dish as well.
It is foul here today. Give me freezing cold but dry any day over this, gloom and rain. I started a knit project last night, so will get more done today after what looks like being a damp dog walk.

It's been like the wishy-washy laundry here for the last few days, except there's been no "windy" to help dry them. Everything here gets dried outside. Finally got the last things done today and re-made guest beds etc.
Hoping to have a day out before the New Year but the weather doesn't encourage either of us to bother.
Seem to have watched too much TV...was looking at West Side Story yesterday and wondered whether the new re-make is any good, anyone seen it yet?
Nice to hear James Rebanks guest editing Radio 4 Today, I expect Goldie tuned in?
We finished off our turkey etc yesterday, OH made a curry. Still a bit of Christmas pudding left..I bought two large puds so can indulge a bit. After that I think I'd better by-pass all the chocs and biscuits and start rationing them or we'll be waddling into 2022.

It was back to Welcoming duty for me this morning. It was very busy despite (or maybe because of) the absolutely dreadful weather. I got drenched just walking from the car.
Brue I did my washing yesterday. It is all hanging on the airer in the utility room. No chance of it drying outside in the forseable future here 🌧☔

After a rather wet night and start to the day we eventually saw the sun. Belated start on the washing but OH got it done while I took Flyte out for his mid morning walk. We managed an hour and a half walk round the 3 reservoirs this afternoon while the clothes dried in the van.
We too finished off the Xmas pud this evening, it was a large "30 month matured" one I picked up in January at Aldi's post Christmas sell off, and still within use by date.

If you want a bit more James Rebanks, he was on Sky Arts Book Club at 5 pm yesterday. I only realised when he tweeted it. I missed it, but it's repeated at 12:00 am on Monday, so it's set to record.
Make the most of these media moments as he'll be busy book writing in 2022.

What's that sun thing you were on about, Please, Nellie ??
Energetic neighbour has been out spending his hard earned pennies on a solar powered security light for the rear gate area. Even popped round to beg a few decent washers to help fix the panel to the wall.
Every thing worked a treat ~~ well for the first couple of days at least. I think it might have had a few residual mini-micro watts from when it was manufactured { probably somewhere in China
} Since then it has been utterly useless ~~ I am wondering if it will last long enough to perk up a little when the New Year Celebrations throw a few bright bits his way

Forgotten what the sun looks like! Arrived here at Sandringham last Thursday and it seems to have rained ever since then. We managed a walk in the woods by the visitor centre on Monday - in between the rain and that's been about it. Done a lot of reading, eating and drinking in the van, this week. Need to take the awning and Christmas lights down today and it looks as if we're going to have a car full of wet soggy gear on the way home. Oh, the joys of winter caravanning
We've decided that we're staying at home next Christmas - but I bet we don't!!

"We've decided that we're staying at home next Christmas"
we used to be all weather caravanners but the last couple of years decided against it, see no fun sat in a caravan with wet clothes hanging off of doors and 2 wet dogs, and a wet awning is my worst nightmare, so glad we did not venture out this year, even the dogs this morning were trying to hide behind the groins, still caravan not sitting idle, 2 guests sleeping in there and this afternoon we are having a games afternoon, so UNO in the caravan probably Scrabble indoors followed by a second Turkey dinner
and we will be warm and dry
