You can be prosecuted, but there’s no upper limit I don’t think. Same with riding a horse. (We used to go out on pub rides from our stables, everyone had a drink or two. Our old lad liked Guinness, good job he knew his way home. Bridleways though, not public roads) The chance of a policeman being anywhere around is minimal though, as for any misdemeanour. 😉

Hope you had a love day, Goldie, many happy returns.

Lots of busy people on here having got their Christmas shopping done, we will finish ours off tomorrow, but not much to get, thankfully.

A bitterly cold dull but dry day. We had a couple of walks along the Padiham Heights ridge, which give good views over to Pendle Hill to the north west and the East Lancs hills to the east.

Oo Millie, good for you. It’s getting through to the right person at Virgin that’s the hassle. Head for “I want to end my contract” every time on options. You get to talk to someone who is British, and they are able to make decisions about discounts. Every couple of years I put aside an hour of my time to haggle hard with them. I got our contract reduced, and a free 6gig sim off them this time, so ended up £25 per month better off! They are glad to get rid of me🤣🤣

Log chopping went well, we have loads done now, and it’s a better work out than the Gym. Less risk of COVID as well😂

Ended the day making some jewellery presents for family, little extras for Xmas. Have managed to source some more Swarovski stuff as well, at a brilliant price, so a good day😁

Thank you for the Birthday wishes. We celebrated by finishing the Christmas decorations (garlands and dangly things on the kitchen and small trees in the front bedroom windows), and getting some answers right on Christmas University Challenge.

Today It's another normal day - interspersed with food preparation for Saturday. This year I'm going to be SO organised (or not). Last night we sampled some Christmas Shortbread I made, and so far so good.

And today I shall mostly be listening to The Killers Christmas singles on a loop.

The quickest way to get to talk to a human is to select the option “if you’re thinking of leaving us press…”

It’s the quickest way to talk to someone British at Virgin😂Otherwise you get Colin in Kolkata, or Philippa in the Philippines. Always polite, but not empowered to give you the discount you really deserve. Tell them what you want, not what they think you should have, is my motto.😂

Cold here today, OH has decided on a bike ride (tough decision, I think not😉) while the pooch and I will be finalising the last bits for Christmas (no supermarkets involved) and then chilling out. More, later………

Our last Waitrose delivery before Christmas has come and gone. Our special beef arrived safely although I would question whether its large enough for 6/8 people, perhaps I am just greedy!!!! Only hiccup was leeks. We have learnt that if veg is listed as single you have to order the number you want, so two parsnips or in our case two leeks. It seems that our picker had given us two packs of leeks and charged accordingly! This was confused on delivery by only receiving one pack of two leeks, if you are still with me? At least it reduced our largest bill on the year by a tiny amount.

We have now had weekly deliveries for the best part of two years. If this pandemic diminishes to the point where it is no worse than seasonal flu, wishful thinking maybe, will we go back to weekly shopping in person? Its been very nice having the deliveries but it feels a bit lazy. At least when you visit a supermarket you are getting a bit of exercise and there is also the social side of meeting chums and former colleagues. Not to mention the coffee and Danish before starting the shop!

Just back from Tesco to get the click and collect Christmas Delivery, we normally have a home one but could not get a slot. All the special order stuff was in secondary packaging, so although we clearly had everything the dates were not obvious. When we unpacked at home, I noticed the lobster tails we had ordered for starters on Christmas day, had tomorrows date on them. There was no mention of anything being near dated on the invoice, if there had of been, we would have rejected them. However, I must say they dealt with it very well and reasonably quickly. I was only on hold for 5 minutes. They refunded the full cost to my card. I suppose it’s in their interests to keep us happy, as unlike pre covid when we used to shop around, 90% of our supermarket shopping now comes to our doorstep from Tesco.

We've never done an online shop either, I like to see things before I buy.

I wondered about the special offers to.

My sister has been doing them since all this started but she frequently has stuff missing so ends having to go to the shop to buy it. Milk seems to be one of the items missing often, it must be the time they make up the orders though when we were in Asda the other day they had very little milk. All the other supermarkets we went in didn't have a problem.

We picked up a load of fresh veg the other day in Tescos all reduced to pennies, still plenty of date on them not that it mattered all now blanched and in the freezer.

Another dull day here, at least its dry. Bonus for us next door didn't wake us up early this morning so had a lovely long lay in.

We have also been doing online shopping for the last couple of years.  I can’t remember when we last went into a shop!  Yes, we do get information about special offers on wine etc.  We use Waitrose, Sainsbury’s and Ocado (for mainly M&S stuff) and fortunately we have had very little that hasn’t been delivered as requested.  We have also been very lucky and very satisfied with most of what has been delivered, occasionally smaller than ideal bananas!

When the pandemic started and before we were vaccinated we did Click and Collect but we often had useless substitutes, items missing and I often ended up going into the shop for missing items that were essential for recipes. Often the veg was not what I would have picked. Much prefer to pick my own food with longer lasting dates. We don’t do pubs and very rarely go to restaurants and we wouldn’t consider the theatre or cinema but I am glad that I can do supermarket shopping again.

We have a C&C once every 3 weeks, mainly for the large bulky items and tinned stuff but we do get MiLs wine supply with it as local Tesco is hit and miss and she only likes sweet stuff (yuk!) and if there's a 25% offer on we get that.  Always make sure no substitutes and never get fresh food. I like to see the quality before I buy.

A bit brassic this morning, so a brisk walk but we met quite a lot of people doing the same and ended up having multiple verbal "round robins". Frozen when we got back but the day has got warmer and wetter.

Coffee break over. Off to roll the pastry and make a few mince pies.

The ‘best’ substitute we had with a C&C order was when vegetarian sausages, ordered for our granddaughter, were substituted with turkey mince!!

We had our food delivery today, all OK except we didn't get the gluten free Christmas cake intended for DIL. I had deliveries when I was working and just before Covid struck I intended to start them again. We're not near to any supermarkets and I tended to drop into the M&S Foodhall on trips to town. Waitrose has been reasonably OK, I used to have Tesco's and also tried Morrison's. I discovered a bit late in the day that I can leave a note for the picker against each purchase so will use this facility more next year. Also reading the product details and reviews helps. I'm disappointed today with some expensive ham which looks good but on closer inspection has been "formed." I would probably have missed the details even if shopping in person, the presentation was better than the product!

I don't feel lazy not going to a supermarket, unlike DK our nearest Waitrose doesn't have a very nice coffee shop area so that's not a draw. I use small local shops and producers too.

We're busy with the family now but having a break each day as they visit family and friends. All back for fish and chips tonight!

It's gone very cold, we had a brief glimpse of the sun.

We have had online deliveries for years. Supermarket shopping doesn’t rate in our top 100 activities list, even doing it with Shop and Scan, so suits us fine. Found Tesco most reliable, we get all the offers going in the store, if a date is close to use by it’s on the receipt list and the driver will refund to account asap(usually within 10 minutes). Very little in way of substitutions, and you don’t have to have them of course. Only time we shop is usually while away, and if we are anywhere near a Booths. Always worth a personal shop in Booths. Having said that, we do top up via Farm Shops, Deli’s, etc… through the month. I like to support good local shops as well.

We got caught out this year with the “state how many” button though. I pressed 1 for root ginger (thinking it would be 1 root) We got a kilo instead🤣 However, it freezes brilliantly, is easier to grate into stuff like soup etc from frozen, and it’s something I love, so nothing spoiling. I did hear of someone who got 5 tea towels substituted for a single quilt🤣🤣🤣

Doesn’t surprise me😂 I once had to explain to a visiting builder what those strange big birds were at the end of our garden going cluck, cluck. He had never seen a live chicken before. 🤷‍♀️

You usually have to be signed up to a particular supermarket in order to get deliveries and they usually have the option to send you emails for such offers. With Waitrose when you go on to their online ordering there is a tab for offers of all sorts so the information is all there as well. So I don't think you lose out by ordering online.

We shop at Booths once a week. We chat to the same staff every time and find everyone very friendly and helpful. I buy fresh meat, fish and cheese there and can pick and choose how much. Not constrained by pre packaged weights. The fruit and veg (especially veg) is as local as it can be - mostly Lancashire. They have a very good Spirits section.

Occassionally I get an Asda delivery  - for bulky stuff. Some things we buy mail order - e.g. flour and Who Gives A Crap toilet rolls. And wine.

I don't get on well in crowds, but Sunday morning at a small Booths suits me. And we treat ourselves to cream cakes - Coffee Renoirs. To eat while we read the free Sunday paper.

Oh you fortunate people. Living in the wilds of the Devon countryside we have no Waitrose and the only time we get to visit Booths is when we are on holiday in the Lake District, when it’s a special treat and we stock up a bit, especially with their fruit cake. We do have a Waitrose near the caravan site though. Even our M&S food hall in town isn’t very big. 35 years ago there was only one family owned supermarket for many miles, now though we do have all the bigger ones.

Same here, we have a Spar in the village but the prices are ridiculous. Shame for those who have to rely on it. Lots of the oldies with bus passes get the bus into Perth, it stops outside Asda on the way and then Tesco metro in the town. They can have a trip out do their shopping and the bus doesn't cost them a penny.

In town we have the usual Asda, Tesco, Morrisons, Aldi and Lidl. No Waitrose or Sainsbury, M&S food shop at the retail park and a big Iceland. No shortage of supermarkets and thankfully very little evidence of shortages in them. Asda seems to be the only one that's not got is usual stock but no empty shelves.

I don't think I would have the patience to sit down with a laptop to do an online order, I prefer to drive in and do it in the shop. I like to 'see' what's out there. I don't do much shopping on line for other items, OH tends to do a lot of 'surfing'

Thanks for the advice TDA we will remember that the next time we ring Virgin. OH  didn't like the response he was getting from the first person he spoke so he rang off and then spoke to somebody else who gave him a better deal.

During the 1st lockdown we had all our food shopping delivered either from Tesco or Morrisons but we had difficulty with Morrisons as they over reached themselves and deliveries were sometimes hours late and one didn't arrive at all. We then started click and collect with Aldi which was very succcessful. However they opened a big new store near us which was much more spacious than the old ones so we started shopping in person last summer and I realised that after a year I really missed it so we have carried on. We popped in to do our last minute food shopping this morning and it wasn't too busy at all

Before Aldi we went for a lovely crisp walk round Ferry Meadows. We walked past the caravan site. It didn't look desperately busy.

It was my last Welcoming duty at the Cathedral before Christmas yesterday. We had over 100 people during the morning. Who knows whether we will be able to be there next week 🤔

We have never bother with on line shopping for food stuff, we do all our shopping at home by calling in on an early evening. As we are frequently away, usually more than we are at home, we just shop as and when we need to replenish stocks, usually at Aldi and Tesco, although there are certain produce at Lidl OH prefers if there is one local to where we are stopping.

Today we went for a short walk from The Nick of Pendle but it was bitingly cold and there was some ice on the path, so we didn't go very far. Followed that with another, warmer, walk around Pendleton village before calling in at Aldi and Lidl in Clitheroe and a final walk from the van, after we had unloaded, around "Wizzle".laughing We move to our site for Christmas tomorrow.
