Our Christmas food delivery is coming on Wednesday. We have ordered a nice piece of beef for Christmas Day and I just hope that is available. We do have a small stuffed turkey breast in the freezer in reserve. If push comes to shove we will have to venture into Waitrose on Wednesday afternoon or the next day. Not so keen on that so we might just have to make to and mend, doubt we will starve. Don't think we are getting any guests for the Christmas weekend.

Another grey and miserable day today here the fog has all but gone we know have drizzle.

I'm off to the shops this morning, we are out (hopefully) for lunch on Christmas day but I want some more fresh fruit and milk, might even pick up some more brusselswink

Birds need more food but the cat is sorted, her face is looking much better now and she seems happier, good call taking her to the vets before we went away.

Lots of jobs to do but it's just to cold outside and in the attic to work, so OH is starting to get a bit fed up. All his hobbies and DIY stuff take place outdoors, being confined to the house is not good. I have lots of hobbies some outdoors but lots indoors so can always find something to do to keep me busy.

I like planning our trips away but OH isn't really into that, he's quite happy if I just tell him where we are going.

Our final food delivery for Christmas, like DK, is Wednesday. We've discussed contingency plans if things go wrong. We have a lot of sausages and two pheasants in the freezer....wink

We got caught out last year with the last minute lock down just before Christmas and couldn't get a delivery slot or click and collect slot anywhere so we went to the supermarket about 8.30pm - 9.00pm and there were more staff than customers! Another cold day here today but not as foggy - yet. My OH is like yours TG all his hobbies are outside ones. He is braving the garden this morning to do a bit of tidying up. I am not sure how long he will last out there!

We are down in Cornwall for Christmas - left home at 6 this morning, down here for 9 and a bacon & egg sandwich at the garden centre cafe for breakfast. Then up on to the dunes to give the dogs a long run (hardly a murmur from them all the way down luckily!  wink)

We have a click & collect food order to collect from Morrisons in Newquay on Wednesday - 2 years ago we used M&S in Truro,  which was horrendous with an hour queueing at the pick up point right next to the ladies' lingerie section! embarassed

Will get fruit and veg from the local shop on Thursday. We also have last  year's Christmas Pud which has been maturing nicely all year, although I haven't inspected it yet! wink

Hope everyone has the most enjoyable Christmas possible if I don't get chance to post again before the big day. smile

Happy Christmas moulesy to you, Mrs M and the dogs and a peaceful and healthy New Year. I hope you have a good one.

If they bring in curbs on household mixing now it is already too late for some people I know because as soon as the schools broke up on Friday their families were on the move and are already staying with them. Some of them have travelled from abroad and would not now get a flight back in time so what happens to them?

Schools not broke up here yet, everyone still at work.

Tesco was busy this morning but Asda wasn't.

Got my shopping now until after the holiday I hope.

Going out for Christmas Dinner to my nieces so very little needs to buy in the way of Christmas fare.

OH out delivering the village cards, seems his test is doing the rounds. He tracked it today to Birmingham, strange way to get to Nottingham. Good job it was a test on return and not to travel, its been over 72 hours since it was posted and still nothing. If we had been flying we wouldn't have been able to.

Fred Carno's circus, Tammy. Too late for him to visit his mum at Christmas?

A cold day here as well. Had to clear half of the garage out this morning as Scottish Power were having Smart Meters fitted and that's where the electric board is. Took the opportunity of washing the bikes down. Ended up with feet like blocks of ice. Parcel people turned up on time to whisk the wrong battery box away. Hooray.

Mrs WN had a bit of a scare today. She popped into town to get some food and pick up our cheese order from the deli. Whilst withdrawing some cash (only £20) from the indoor cash point in Santander she noticed a man loitering and assumed he was waiting for her to finish. She did but he followed her outside and when she realised she turned around to confront him and he ran across the road without even looking to see if traffic coming. She went into the deli and the kind owner walked her back to her car, even though she said she was fine. Mind you with the amount of cheese she had she might have made a more attractive target.

Take care folks and be vigilant.

Well we had a small visitor yesterday afternoon 1 mouse so things have been moved about it had even been on both settees here in the Gite so owners do not have any traps etc so out today to Super U got the necessary stuff and did shopping whilst there so no need for any more shopping hopefully nearer to New Year both fridge/freezers are full now, have cleaned everywhere downstairs this morning I am ok with mice outside but not inside.

The weather still very dull and cold as the wind is coming from the East so as soon as you go out of the door a cold blast brr, does look like we will get some sunshine for a few days then rain on xmas day, OH show me the camera view at home blue sky and about 12C typical.

Would like to do some tidying at the garden here but not mine so will have to stick to watering a few plants in a small greenhouse.

Not too many folk about shopping today mostly the older generation and OH got some fuel only to find it is about 11 cents a litre cheaper here than at home so that pleased him.

We had a heavy frost yesterday evening, and when I went out around 10:00 all the cars were frozen up and the pavements slippy. Thankfully it had warned up during the night and the morning was clear and dry. Easy drive through to CL, with only an odd delay due to road repairs following an earlier accident. Had a walk into Whalley after lunch, giving the van time to warm up fully, and then saw Goldie's OH and son on the local news this evening.

Bit of a fright for OH, WN, glad that nothing untoward happened, just a shame that the guy missed being hit by a passing vehicle.sealed

Have a grand time can in Cornwall, M. Hope the weather stays dry and you all  can get out and about during your stay. Merry Christmas to you both.

It's been a long day, left home at 12, having done  a LFT, down to DD's for lunch, then she dropped me off at the hospital and went off to Ikea, expecting me to be a while.  However I did not need another X-ray, the removing of my cast took less than 10 minutes, then the arm was cleaned up and I was fitted with a removable splint to use for a while, and given a sheet of exercises to do, so I was finished in less than 30 minutes.

DD had only got as far as returning some surplus items, so came back to fetch me and we went back to Ikea for what she wanted to buy, and were not back at her house till after 4.30.  OH was looking after Callum, reading books and playing games.

We had an early dinner and DD and SIL went off for their boosters, getting back just in time to save us from having to do bathtime.   However,  Callum wanted me to read a story and put him to  bed, after which I promptly fell asleep in the chair, so it was 9.30pm before we got home again.

OH still not feeling too good,  very tired, but her cough is much better, and her cold now gone.  Just her appetite to get back now.

Picking up the Christmas food orders on Wednesday, hope the shops will not be mobbed.

Your could do your Christmas shopping whilst you are queuing or at least browse. What's not to like?

No 1 daughter paid a visit yesterday with grandsons, the elder having his arm encased in plaster. Fell over his own feet in the playground apparently!

OH had text from her daughter who will not be joining us for Christmas lunch at a pub as she has just tested positive. As she is a head teacher, I'm surprised she has managed to avoid it for so long.

Before I forget, in the words of the Highways Agency, Season's Grittings to all.

Just catching up with the adventures (and misadventures😱) of others. Good to hear returning travellers are ok, and that those heading out (Nellie, that’s you😁) are ok. Happy Birthday Goldie🥳

We have all but fresh veg sorted here, I have found a very nice farm shop local, so will pop there tomorrow for last few bits.

I hummed and hawed about going to a funeral this morning, a close colleague from my early working days who sadly died early this month aged only 67. Not COVID, but it’s going to be a huge funeral, as he was Head of PE at the local Comp where I managed the Sports Centre, then went on to lecture at Sheffield Hallam University in his later career. Such a lovely person. But have got to protect OH, so will follow online and send my condolences other ways. Bit of a shock I must admit, he was a keen fitness follower.

Will be getting some warming exercise later. It’s log chopping day here. I love thwacking with a big axe. 😂

We had a problem in our sorting office around the mid of November. Posties off with Covid, not got the Christmas extras in and the management introduced a new way of working........ Yes in the run up to Christmas, I'm sure that they wouldn't have realised they were coming into the busy season 😉.  Some folks hadn't had post for 6 weeks before it appeared go be resolved mid December. Although I understand they are up to date things are being held up in other places for similar reasons.

We appeared to be lucky, first I knew of it was a posting on our neighbourhood social media, roads very close not getting post.

Our family arrived at 2am. We've got their large bouncy whippet for the day as they have now gone to the funeral of their friend. I think it will be a large gathering and son may have to be a pall bearer. Very sad to see a young man leave the world too early, he was disabled from birth and an only child but overcame many odds.

Sorry to hear about your colleague too TDA.

Grandson is very pleased to be here and after today we can look forward to something more cheerful.

Meanwhile we would just like a good night's sleep!

"Another day older and deeper in debt". And a very posh looking (from having only looked at an armrest) office chair to assemble. My husband was I think fed up of the creaking and squeaking of my old one (which was a hybrid of two older ones). Woe betide anyone who sits on it in mucky farming clothes.

And on pleasanter things - more Christmas prep this afternoon. Probably Rum Butter, meringues and savoury shorbread biscuits. Not to be eaten all together.

Happy birthday Goldie a very useful present and hope you get some nice things for xmas, I bought OH a new office chair last xmas the other one was falling to bits, like your afternoon chores yummy.

We had a very sharp frost here today and more of the same tonight and a bit of sunshine but still very cold 2C brr so had to wrap up to feed the cat, wild birds and Mallard ducks who now know who feeds them when they see you come out of the door it all go and quacks, the owners did have chickens but they got done by the local fox so not having anymore.

The mouse has now gone thankfully. It is the shortest day today so hopefully it will start getting a bit lighter at night soon.

    Happy Birthday Goldie.

yes shortest day, we were at Sainbury's at 6 (am!) and there were a few others either keen, wanting to miss the crowds, or idiots like us there as well! But now all the shopping is done and I don't intend to move outside the house for the next week or so. The 'Christmas cupboard', which started being stocked in October is now formally open and I'll toast you all with a Bailey's

    Merry Christmas to everyone!

Let me add my best wishes to Goldie as well. Nice to see you don't get a combined present for birthday and Christmas.

We braved Tesco this morning, not quite at the ridiculous hour that CS managed, but everyone there seemed to know what they wanted and all tills were open so it went smoother than the normal weekly shop.🤷‍♂️ Then went on to the library which will soon close for 3 weeks so we are well stocked up with books. Dropped off a card and some chocolates for them. They're a really good bunch there. Then went around to a neighbours to witness a will. They were panicking a bit as we were away last week and there were 3 deaths in the near neighbourhood so minds were focussed.

Unless we find, or don't as the case may be, that we've forgotten something then that is us done until mid next week for fresh fruit and veg.

Just fallen in love with a Labrador...our friend, who is on his own and lost his old dog has finally got himself a lovely rescue labrador. Brought him round to say hello today, all very happy with the much pondered over arrival, cheered us up to see the new companions together. 🐶smile

Hopefully the last Tesco shop this morning. Then sorted out the freezer, forgot what was at the bottom of it! Two loads of washing done, cleaned out the fridge, then the en suite and the cloakroom. Asked OH if he would clean the bathroom, reluctantly he went, that was 90 minutes ago! Either it will be spotless or, more likely, he has his laptop with him in there and is just hiding. I have blackcurrants soaking in gin and sugar and just off to give the jars a good shake, they should be ready by Christmas.
