Kept out of the way as Mrs.WN decided to have a complete sort out of her artwork materials. She decided she has far too much stuff that she hasn't used so it had to go.

Result? One very small cardboard box (empty) disposed of. It's not just men like Kj that have a problem with getting rid of stuff.🤣

I was looking for something today and ended up getting the folder for "Foreign Travel" out. Found €400 that we'd drawn out before supposedly heading off last March to Spain. Forgotten all about it.😁 I suppose it will stay there until next year when hopefully we'll be going abroad.

Looks like some folk have been busy.  OH is in the process of making a new shutter for our kitchen window nearly done his bit then I will be doing the painting as I am a bit more careful and enjoy painting where OH does not unless a large roller and he can cover a large area quickly, fiddly bit so he is not keen, I have been clearing out a very large pot with a young Strawberry tree in and it was doing well and as I had planted geraniums around it for the summer and had noticed that they were looking a bit iffy so pulled them out only to find the pot had got cockchafer grubs in and I really do hate them for the damage they do to the roots of plants so hence clear out the pot and sieve the compost and collect the grubs in a old jar and sorry folks they had to go so added some hot water to the jar and there was about 200 grubs yuck they will go over wall tomorrow and the local birds will find them, the grubs are a real pest over here so you have to change the way you plant pots I now use a mat around the plants and gravel on the top so the adults cannot get in the pots, now got a bad back from bending over the pot for about 3 hours but at least it was a lovely sunny day and mild of 22C but all change tomorrow and getting much cooler but we do need the rain for the ground is drying out even at this time of year and apparently it has been a very dry year here even though we have had a lot more rain this year than last year.

Hope you got there ok, TG, and are able to meet up with your son. We drove past Old Sarum on the way up to Marlborough instead of passing through all the roundabouts around Salisbury.

If you had forgotten about it you've got to much cash!!wink

After visiting Stonehenge earlier in the week we went to Avebury today. Walked up to Windmill Hill before lunch, and then around the stones and into the Manor in the afternoon. The car park was full when we left but it did not seem busy apart from round the cafe.

Black mark for me today as I managed to loose OH's NT card sometime this afternoon. Phone the membership department and they are sending a replacement to our house, and to enable us to still visit places while away they will (hopefully) email us a temporary one which should last us for the rest of our trip.

I've seen plenty of Frenchmen wait until the rain comes and then go and wash the car (and caravan/Mh sometimes) in the rain! No excuse Francis.😂 Sympathies though as you had more than your fair share of rain.

Had quite a bit ourselves and had to get up and unblock a downspout due to an overflow today. Need to clean the gutters out properly tomorrow.

Managed to sell our second bike today.👍👍 Gone to a good home.

Hope one and all are in the pink.

Having caught up with all the washing after our trip, it's been a leaf sweeping day, in between the downpours. We have our extra dog until Monday (it should be Sunday but I know it wont be! wink) Got several things on next week so will be busy and then a short holiday break in a cottage fairly soon. Finished knitting a hat and jumper for a baby boy arriving any minute, friends daughter....made a pom pom for the hat, forgot how fiddly they were, reminded me of school. One of those things that we were given to do to keep us quiet....

Whilst away we saw some of the HS2 developments, quite devastating to see parts of the Warwickshire countryside vanishing under such huge construction work, not like the old railway lines of yore, these are real scars on the landscape. Our family had been telling us about it but we hadn't actually seen it. frown

    Have a spooky weekend.....👻👿🕸

After a lovely evening out with our son & DIL the rest of the night we spent getting buffeted about by the wind and lashing rain.

Today didn't start off any better either, then the day just got worse. Accident on the A34 near Oxford spent an hour just crawling along. Managed to change our route after that then ran into more hold ups 😟

Then when we did our day 2 LFTs the results were negative ☺ but could we get the app to upload the QR code and photo. Once the test is done it takes 15 mins to get result then you have 15 mins more in which to scan it to the company to get your certificate. Talk about stress, ended up taking photo and sending that to them along with a complaint that their site wasn't working. Eventually we got an apology and another link to repeat the process. It worked and we now have our certificate 😊 goodness knows how some folk get on that aren't used to doing these things.

Now finally we are on our CL, dinner over and feet up relaxing. Meeting up with our other son and his family tomorrow.

    Have a good weekend folks.

I am pretty sure when the original railways were built, as well as canals, they must have been an equal scar on the countryside? The difference is, of course, that part of the building of HS2 will be to try and restore the habitat around the works when they are complete. I can't imagine that the building of HS2 is any more of a scar than say a motorway or a new dual carriageway? In the Home Counties most of the track is through miles of tunnels. HS2 Ltd put videos on YouTube at regular intervals giving details including the wonderful Roman artifacts discovered as part of the Archaeology survey along the route. Had it not been for HS2 they may never have seen the light of day?

Good to hear that you eventually got to your CL, TG. Hope your visit goes well tomorrow.

Although your forecast is for more rain Francis it may not turn out as bad as they expect. Have a relaxing weekend.

We had heavy rain overnight, but not the strong winds. More rain during the day but have so far managed 4 walks from the van without getting wet. We

We are thankful that we're not away in Cumbria or the Scottish Borders, at the moment,  which we may well have been had we not decided to visit the S West this autumn rather than going to Scotland as we had first considered doing.

I really was quite saddened by what I saw David (K) the site was vast. I enjoyed reading about the recent archaeology but they are no doubt working against the clock on that site and have had to move 3000 burials! Anyway it was an eye opener and may not benefit many of us in reality. We did notice a huge amount of freight on the motorways, it would be good to see HS2 being used for freight?! Just my thoughts.smile

Very wet here  most of today.   Lashing rain started yesterday evening, not so much wind today, but rain went on till after 3pm.

DD came up to supervise more garage clearing.   Callum was off nursery yesterday and today as he has a sore throat and just not himself, nor is he sleeping properly, so DD did not get much sleep either.  OH had both Callum and Nathan to look after for a while before her vaccination appointment, and as it was still very wet I drove her to the door then had to go elsewhere to wait....and wait.....and wait.

Was 30 minutes after her appointment time before she was seen........huge queues.....lot of people milling around......seems couples where only one had an appointment were turning up hoping to both get their vaccinations, causing hold ups for those who were booked, plus apparently the delivery of the vaccines was late.

By the time we got back, an hour later, DD had lunch ready, then we did a couple more hours in the garage before she had to go home.

Found we had a big puddle in the garage, no leaks from above so can only presume it had been blown in somehow, something that has never happened before.  We also found some mice had taken up residence and built a nest, the nest has been removed but the mice are now hiding somewhere in the garage, so they will have to be evicted.

The various piles for the scrapyard and  for giving away are increasing, and the skip is filling up nicely.  We have decided to continue in the garage first as that will free up space for me in which to do the woodwork, plus the countertop needs time to acclimatise before I start work on it.

Tomorrow we are due at DD's to do a few jobs for her, then it will be back to the garage for me.

when we lived in Scotland mice were the bain of our lives, they wrecked by OH's Renault Clio which was her pride and joy.

I had garaged it for the winter and bought her a 4x4 as i knew Clio would be no match for Scottish winter weather, but they got inside the Clio and built 2 nests in the seats. Was not aware of the damage until the spring when i uncovered it to get it ready for the road. My Oh would not drive it again she had this fear of a mouse popping out as she was driving. We get them occasionally now, but we have a few cats in the neighbourhood and they seem quite good at keeping the population in check.

We have a sonic mice scarer in our shed to hopefully keep the little blighters out. We also have one (or more) mice near the rose arch in our garden near the bird table. I can watch him scuttle out for food from the kitchen window, and have to admit putting a few crumbs nearer to his home when I feed the birds. Can’t imagine how he is escaping next doors 4! cats. I now also have a very tiny little fly type creature who lives near our coffee table, he has been around for weeks just minding his own business. Often sits on the back of my hand when I am having a cuppa. Don’t know how much longer he will live. OK I know, I’m getting weird in my old age.

Rained here all night stopped now but site roads still quite flooded. Quite a lot of activity here overnight and this morning lots of helicopters going overhead we suspect it will be to do with the COP summit in Glasgow Prestwick airport is close to the site and the Americans have a base there so it’s probably their diplomats arriving

One year when we were in Irvine for our annual Hogmanay celebrations , we had as guests of us all, a US aircrew who got "stuck" After their transport plane was declared a failure at Prestwick on their stopover from Germany to home frown

They had a great time they had not seen or been involved in such a great celebration  the First time they had seen the Address to the Haggis or send and heard the pipes as we always had the Maybole pipe band in attendancecool

The day started off very damp this morning, but we had a delayed pooch walk, and blue skies and sunshine most of the afternoon. My plan today was to go and have a look at a gym and pool complex not far away, but we got caught up in the aftermath of a dreadful situation that had traffic in chaos around us, so we gave up and came home. Sadly, someone found a body at side of motorway, and police had closed everything off, Which snarled up all the routes close by. Someone mentioned that they thought someone had committed suicide by leaping over motorway bridge parapet, into an oncoming HGV. Ghastly situation for all concerned. Happened in early hours of morning, but roads closed most of day.☹️

Home and house cleaning rest of day. Don’t forget to turn clocks back😁

We had a delay due to an "incident" when we travelled north recently TDA, had to divert from the M1 via Derby and Chesterfield, 4 junctions affected. It is sad to hear these things.

Our little mantlepiece clock stopped working when we were away, it's not old but I am quite fond of it so it can't be turned back anymore. frown OH has looked for a spare part but I don't think it will look the same, it's a pewter clock with a nice dial. The rest of our "clocks" are all digital...except the cuckoo clock which only gets wound up and let loose occasionally! wink

Woke up to sun which we agreed to share with Yorkshire by the sound of it.

After a walk and coffee I set to outside. Gutter cleaning but had to get access to some of them from the roof. Then noticed how dirty the underside of some guttering was, so started cleaning it which led to downspouts and window sills etc.etc.

Did some path clearance as well after lunch with plenty of folk willing to stop and give me advice but not a hand.😂 Bought some Poppies from a local who comes around for the British Legion. My how time flies. Nearly November. Got asked by young couple opposite if I minded their 2 young ones coming over tomorrow for a Trick or Treat. No bother but threatened to get MiL to answer door with her teeth out and scary witches shawl on. That'll frighten them.😱😀 Scares the living daylights out of me.😨

Just as it should be, JVB. I feel sorry for all those involved, but especially those on the receiving end, as it were.

More rain over night but woke to a dry morning, which gradually brightened up. After falling in at Tesco for a few bits we had a 3 hr walk through Savernake Forest. Got back to the van just before a heavy shower, but thankfully it soon cleared up again. Forecast for tomorrow doesn't look too promising.frown

Brought more stuff in from the van today, have not cleared it out for winter since DD and family used it as we had the workmen here, and no space to stash stuff anyway.

Now that the room where we keep our caravan bits is empty of most bathroom bits, we can start bringing in the caravan stuff before winter sets in.

After that we headed down to DD's so I  could  lower the base on Nathan's  cot now he is trying to pull himself up, and fix her last unit to the wall following her extension re-roof.  They are having people for dinner tomorrow, so she wanted the dining table cleared of all the stuff unpacked from the boxes.

We had some coffee pods delivered from our Tassimo subscription, so divided those between us, discussed plans for the coming week, played with Callum and  Nathan, then headed home  via  Lidl for some shopping, so it was a late dinner.

OH woke up with 2  very sore arms from her vaccinations, so has had to take it easy today.  She  could not lift her arms at all until this evening, and is still very sore, worse than anything she has experienced in the past.

Welcome!
