Bit late, tda, we visited the town today.
OH will, hopefully, get her retail fix at Cheshire Oaks in a week or so, just before we head home.
Had an interesting walk from Pershore Bridge through the village of Wick. The best way to see these out of the way, off the beaten track, Cotswold villages is to wander through them. Lots of impressive buildings on the waymarked history trail.

No, not yet JV, but it looks a cracking little railway. It’s changed a lot since we first found it, lots more retail outlets, some very nice ones. I particularly like the very good craft shop, and the big garden centre cum gift centre is very nice. We have had early breakfasts there twice, once after overnighting at Stratford in MH, and another time we used nearby Travelodge. It’s a good place to give dogs a good walk as well. It’s around four years since we last called, so might have changed more now. I think there was a big Farm Shop opening last time we were there. I did wonder if it might be possible to quietly overnight at top of car park, but it would involve being locked in for night🤔 For anyone in a MH, or towing, it’s a very good place to stop off for a break. We do Warwick to Tewkesbury leg of journey SW via Evesham.

MillieH,
Did you get your ears syringed at your Doctors Surgery
???
???
???
The Receptionist at my surgery said quite clearly that NHS don't do that anymore ~~ you should try a hearing aid company ~~ LIKE SPECSAVERS !! Brian was not a happy bunny but went back to his old habit of flushing out using Washing up liquid -- well it shifts pork grease don't it

ABM Yes I had them syringed at my GP's surgery. I have since heard from many people that they have been told the same as you - the NHS don't do it any more and have been quoted prices at other places ranging from £20 - £80😳. I don't think my GP surgery have received that email yet. I presume they soon will ☹.

Millie I had mine done, albeit 2+ years ago at Community Hospital. Think Wales still do it there, hopefully.
Another 10 minutes to wait before I can leave waiting area after just having had my Booster.
All very well organised. They're only doing those with appointments. No walk-ins.
Enjoy your day folks.

Millie
Margaret wears hearing aids and the local audiology department won't reassess her hearing aids until she has had her ears syringed. Our surgery has told her that they no longer do it so a couple of weeks before her next appointment in March (interesting its so long away as it was previously a walk in service!) she will go to Specsavers who charge about £55 on the basis of no wax no charge!!! Some time ago she was also told she had a B12 deficiency and needed to take B12 tablets, no prescription just told to go to boots. OK they are as cheap as chips but it seems to be the way things are going. MK used to have its own Commissioning Group but now we have combined with Bedford and Luton and I wouldn't be surprised to see more changes in the future.

I've got my booster on Friday.... mind you I did go for another injection last week (one I have to have every 14 weeks)... I had a phone call from the Dr's the day before asking me if I could change the time of my appointment. The receptionist said, 'Can you come at 2.30'. I just replied, 'Oh, dentist time'. She replied, 'No.... this is the Doctors'. 🤣🤣 I had to explain the 2.30 - 'tooth-hurty' thing. The phone line went quiet for a short time and she replied, 'Oh, I do feel sorry for your wife!'.... 🤣🤣🤣🤣 (True story by the way!)

Couldn't agree more David.
Referring to DK's post i think its disgraceful that his local audiology department wouldn't reassess his wifes hearing aids until she has had her ears syringed at her cost.

Glorious day again,
2 things struck me whilst out walking today, this was the only container ship in the deep water channel off the IOW today normally you see 4 or 5, report in news yesterday saying that an airfield in Kent over 300 containers stacked up because of the shortage of HGV drivers to take them away from the ports, me thinks Southampton may be struggling also.
muttley a bit apprehensive about going into the sea, but given there have been lots of reportrs re the dumping of sewage into our waters I was surprised at just how clear the water was, however, have put my bathers away now, much too cold, and not sure i fancy the local leisure centre just yet. There were a few brave souls out this morning, but all in wet suits, never fancied myself in a wet suit

I think I may have posted before we normally have to phone at 0800 for morning and 1200for afternoon appointments at our GP surgery, and you are always in a long queue on the phone
I decided as it was not urgent? to ring about 1300 on the Monday for an appointment some time in the future,? the lady who answered almost immediately ,asked if we could come at 1420,that afternoon
After I took OH to see the very young lady doctor, to us anyway ,she said she would contact the hospital for an appointment, we received a call from the geriatric clinic on the Friday for OH and I (now it seems classed as her carer)to attend at 1130the following monday
I have had several calls on my mobile since asking when we are back home, for us to attend again and also from social services dep't from our county council asking if there is there anything else,,i think would help, and when we are home to visit again, they have already given us aids to help OH round inside and outside the house,
At this time I have not ,had any complaints about the service we have had from anyone
Ps I have yesterday had a call from Amplifon telling me I can make an appointment at what ever branch I .want to have my ears sryinged as it is on my records that it shows I may need it

There has been a serious problem with over crowding at Felixstowe and add trains have been laid on there and Southampton tio take away some of the containers
Ps your picture shows what looks like a vehicle transport ship rather than a container ship?

Some of the telephone consultations were happening before COVID here in MK. Fortunately not at our surgery but like all others that is the system now in place. Margaret had a question for her doctor the other day which didn't warrant a visit anyway so a phone call was perfectly acceptable. Trouble was that unless you are up and armed with the phone at 8.00am you are unlikely to get a slot, particularly if you want to see your own doctor. We cheated a bit because we had previously acquired the surgery email address so she fired off her questions and the next working day got a phone call from the doctor. He seemed unfazed by the use of email. Not sure how it got past the Practise Manager who is usually a bit of a tarter!!!

Still sorting through all the 'paperwork' from late in law house and found newspapers from 1967 to mid 1980s that had articles that my father-law wrote. I won't bore you all with those but other articles are interesting. The first two are from the Northern Echo dated Thursday February 2nd 1967. I wonder what the Rev. would make of today's TV? And a policeman checking your bicycle brakes?
And wouldn't it be nice to have those interest rates now?

DSB, a nice old Chestnut (the post not you!)
Lovely autumn day today. No ill effects from the jab so went for a walk this morning and did some gardening this afternoon after picking up some bark from the garden centre. It'll be everywhere tomorrow once the Blackbirds have delivered their verdict on it.
Begin to get the caravan ready tomorrow as we'll be away on Sunday for a week's break. MiL acting as house guard dog!🐕

You are very lucky to even try to get a same day telephone appointment David. OH has had a concern recently and completed the onerous on line form to explain the issue. We knew it was for a telephone appointment as we don’t think they even entertain ’seeing’ people! Anyway, this appointment took 3 weeks, a blood test arranged and new tablets issued. After a week, and having the blood test results, he had a text from Doctors, to ask to arrange another appointment this was duly arranged but this is in 18 days time!! I feel for the old (ok I know we are too!) and vulnerable as however would they cope with all this faffing about. What if someone was seriously ill? OH stopped taking the new tablets as they made him feel so grotty - was this the right thing to do? Who knows, but we can’t get an answer now until the end of November. I’m sorry for the Doctors as we know they are really busy and stressed but honestly this is getting beyond a joke here.

I take some comfort from hearing similar GP tales from around the UK so I hope no one gets missed in the process. I have got used to verbal contacts and a recent "proper" appointment with a locum who made sure I heard his tale of the 100 mile round drive to get to the surgery didn't inspire me with confidence. In fact I think I was a good listener on that day...I hope he felt better!

I’ve spent most of the day getting quotes for the caravan insurance. They range in price from £141-£289 the most expensive quote being from the C&MC club. Just to look through them all now and see what is the best one so much info to take in. Winter has certainly arrived here it’s been really cold in the mornings we drained down the caravan when we came back on Sunday glad we did. Hopefully get a weekend away again nearer the end of this month if we can fit it in.

Another chilly night but don't think it quite froze. A cloudy cooler day, but with periods of sunshine and an odd shower of rain. We went to Croome Court this morning where we had a good walk round the grounds with Flyte before lunch and then into the big house, where they have done more restoration and have a couple of new exhibitions on till Jan 2022, that we'd not seen before. One in particular entitled "What is Home" would be of interest to tda.
Pleased to read that your jab went ok, WN.
Seems you are getting great service from your local NHS, JVB.

Where you off to next WN?
We have had a nice day out today. OH had a scan booked at a small private hospital the other side of Sheffield, so we decided to make a day of it out in Derbyshire Peaks. Had a walk and lunch at Shillito Woods, not far from Baslow, then drove down to Calver Bridge to a nice gift shop cum cafe. Shot back into Sheffield (OH was in full de da de da driving mode) to hospital, 20 minutes in there, then back out of Sheffield via Rivelin Valley route, turn right and head back over The Strines moorlands. We stopped off at The Strines Inn for a nice meal, pub was empty when we got there, and very good on C19 protocol. Pooch friendly as well.👍 They have a big car park, it’s not a Britstop, but talking to staff, don’t think it would be a problem for anyone in MH to stop overnight and eat in the pub. It’s a very scenic location, on a link road between two major routes over the Pennines, one via Ladybower and the Snake, the other links to the Woodhead route.
Photos, ancient cross in Shillito Wood on Drovers path. Other is view from Wood car park towards Curbar Edge. Cloudy day, but at least it stayed dry.

Not been to Croome Nellie, must take a look next time down that way👍

We're heading up to Chester CAMC site for a few nights Ttda as I want to do some birdwatching as well as a good walk on the Wirral and sites are few and far between up there, especially at this time of year. Chester site isn't my favourite site by any means but lack of an alternative means I'd have to cut my nose off etc., and as Mrs WN says I have a cute nose (it could have been an acute nose🤔), I'd rather leave it there. I hear Nellie's making tracks to somewhere nearby next week and I might grace them with our presence, if he behaves himself.🤣
Have to stay fairly local as I have an appointment with kidney person next week. As I've missed the last 2 and others have been cancelled by them I think it only fair to turn up this time.
Sounds like a nice day out. Best wishes to OH for a good result on the scan.

We like the Chester club site WN we have visited it many times over the years the most recent being just a couple of weeks ago. I know it’s not everyone’s fave but we find it handy for the main roads and for visiting Chester, Liverpool the Wirral etc. Enjoy your break
