Got back from Edinburgh just after 14.30 following a successful shopping expedition to Ikea. Pretty wet and windy out there, off and on, with sunny spells, fortunately dry when loading the car with the purchases.
The Ikea click and collect system was down last night, but we left home before 09.00 and were there when the store opened at 10.00, so got everything we needed. There was just enough room in the car for the uprights, which are 179cm long, plus we had 26 shelves and 4 drawers, so my arms are worn out loading them onto the trolleys and then into the car!
Afterwards, we went back in for a look at bathroom units, and to buy a pile of plastic storage boxes to put on my new shelves, though that will be a while away as we still have to make enough space to fit the shelving into.
Then we had hot dogs and drinks, filled fuel, and set off home. Very glad we went early as we avoided the inevitable traffic jams on the Edinburgh bypass.
Hoping for better weather tomorrow to continue the good work in the garage. All our purchases will have to stay in the car until there is space in the garage to be able to unload them!
We got a humane mouse trap from Toolstation.........one mouse evicted.....two to go. Just hope the first one does not decide to move back in. Seems our mice are partial to peanut butter!

Hope your grand daughter enjoys her what with you Debs, and the your daughter is soon clear of her back problem.
Best of luck with the MOT, tda, and that the hospital visit isn't as bad as feared.
More fireworks tonight, more spectacular than last night's but not for as as long, and still a fair distance away so no problems with Flyte. RK, I don't think that our Springer would appreciate being too close to the bangs and lights, he's quite content spread out on the caravan floor, dreaming of chasing squirrels!😁
Spent a pleasant few hours at Witley Court wandering around the woolands, gardens and up at the house. Some lovely Autumn colours in the trees.

Thanks for all the good wishes for our daughter. She had a riding accident in her teens. She had a big op on her spine, which now has metal casing, ten years ago but it’s deteriorating again now and she is back in a wheelchair. They don’t seem keen to operate again, despite her constant pain.
On the subject of dogs and fireworks - we had a lovely springer, as a pup she was to be trained as a gun dog but was terrified of bangs, so we bought her as a pet. She never got over her fear and cowered terribly every firework night. Last week we went to a display and there was a lady there with a white highland terrier it just ignored every loud bang, just laying down at one point. I did ask her if it was deaf, she said no, it’s just not at all bothered by them. Isn’t it strange how some dogs are terrified and others not.

RedKite wrote "we have a huge military exercise going on"
I do hope that's not a precursor to Mr Mackerel upping the anti in the scallop wars.

Not a great day here weather wise cold and very windy so just been a day in the house watching football. We have got our main summer holiday booked for next year after a bit of debate we have settled on Hillhead in Devon one of our favourite sites so that should be good.
Hope everyone else has had a nice weekend

Drove the huge distance, by Nellie's recent standard, of 22 miles to the Chester club site. Expected it to be only half full but there are more idiots out there than I thought willing to join this pair of idiots. Site is reportedly full but strangely there are gaps here and there.
Windy but not too bad. Had to visit M&S for some clothing for MiL! She gave us a list. A bit of food shopping then back to the now warm caravan. Just 3 nights here.
Best wishes DEBSC. We know someone with spinal problems and you are right, the surgeons are very reluctant to go near it if the problem is too close to the spinal cord.

We’re both fully protected from known evils now - flu jabs at the doctors last week, and Covid Boosters in Kendal Shopping Centre today. Both setups were very slick, and the staff and volunteers incredibly friendly . I had a pneumonia vaccination in summer, so I’m ready for whatever winter throws at me.
Now it must be time to start thinking about Christmas, and especially about presents. I think the easiest will be for our one year old Great Grandaughter and the hardest a toss up between my husband and teenage Grandsons.
I’ve dropped hints (maybe too subtle) about what I would like.

Back in harness and nearly up to par. I had a lovely weeks stay in hospital last week with lots of craic and mainly enjoyable
I did think on Wednesday that I had cashed my chips though. A number of people in hospital had the same infection and developed Pneumonia like myself. I may talk more about the staff pressures later. My problem was that I was scheduled with an MRI scan involving a dye.. To protect my kidneys from the effect of the dye two consultants had decided to increase my fluid levels to protect my kidneys. Unfortunately they had not taken account of the fact that I had already developed some fluid retention. I was given 2 litres of saline solution via a drip. About 11am on Wednesday Fliss was bringing a bag of things including beard trimmer etc and my intent was to meet her on the corridor. I went to the loo and found myself gasping for breath. I hit the call alarm but new that it might take 30 mins due to staff shortage. I got the chap in the next bed to get help whilst I collapsed into a chair. My lungs were full of fluid and I had little capacity. 0.5 seconds intake filled the remaining capacity and I was struggling. I thought that I was a gonner. I was pleased to realise that I was not afraid but very annoyed as there were a number of things that I would have wished to sort for Fliss. I was put onto a high level of oxygen and given various infusions to help my breathing. My hands and forearms were purple and I suppose that I was drowning. Not pleasant.
About an hour later I was breathing shallowly and on a drip to remove the fluid. Next I was tad weak but feeling better. By the end of that Thursday I was a lot more chipper. The various consultants cleared me to leave Friday. Another tale but suffice to say that I am good. Able to walk the length of the hospital to leave on Friday as I was not waiting for a porter.

Very sorry to hear of your experience EasyT. We had to stop hospital staff putting our mother on a fluid drip when she had end of life kidney failure, it worsened things for her.
Very glad to hear you are recovering! Take care.

Unfortunately the church closed at the end of October, RK, so we missed out this time. There will be another time, thankfully. Flyte too is from gun dog stock, but was never trained to the gun.
Fine dry day with high cloud here, although a bit breezy at times. We didn't go anywhere as our son, DIL and their dog came to visit, so it was just walks around the farm paths today.

We've been enjoying a short break overlooking Falmouth and the sea. St Mawes Castle by night and the setting sun.

Glad to hear that you are still with us, ET. Must have been a frightening experience, and not just for you, either!

But was Fliss as stoical?

I did not tell her how close I had felt to death until I was back home
and full of beans. I slept 11 hours that night, got up 10am went to bed mid day the next day and slept for another 6 hours and 9 hours last night; I usually sleep 6 to 6.5 hours a night - I was feeling great but exhausted
Fliss would have been horrified Nellie. I was being given insulin on my last three days as my sugar level was 19 (good levels stop at 8). Initially the diabetic nurse wanted to send me out with an insulin pen until I pointed out that that my blood test on arrival showed that the previous 6 months I had been at 8 without medication. How had it gone up so dramatically? Porridge and cornflakes, orange juice and yoghurt for breakfast, mashed potato, sponge pudding, tea and biscuits two or three times a day, baked rice pudding coupled with lockets. Most biscuits were eaten in the early hours. On the day before departure I ate normally (for me) but took an orange carton to see me through the early hours and on departure day was back down to 8. I spent my week dozing on a chair rather than laying down and hacking and as they were long days a treat was called for.

" ~~ On the day before departure I ate normally ( for me ) ~~ "
And that's all any of us can do ET !! We are all different in that a couple of units of sugar etc will have very different effects on you, me, and the rest of humanity ! It is so simple for 'experts' to state that this and that will cause that or this without knowing exactly how your or my body reacts to the same circumstances !
Just look after yourself & give our best wishes to Nurse Fliss

When it comes to shingles, as Richard Nixon observed "Life's a beach"

I purchased (identical) shelving like that online. After a few weeks it was absolutely covered in blue mould. My garage isn’t particularly damp, but the shelving resembled a petri dish! I wiped the frame down with dilute bleach, burnt the original shelves and replaced it with chipboard loft flooring panels from B&Q - been ok since.

That's nasty Goldie. A friend of ours had the same thing and has had some paralysis in her facial muscles ever since, well over 10 years now.
I've had Shingles twice so sympathise. I did read once that if you've had it twice you can't get it again but I think I'll ask the doctor rather than rely on hearsay.
