Garage tidying? It would be quicker to clean out the Augean Stables.

It was around 10 years ago, when I first became a CAMC Council member (CC in those days), when I bought up about being able to book pitch surface types - and I've been doing it periodically ever since. I think Covid has slowed things down this last couple of years, but at least we'll hopefully get there eventually.

We had a nice walk yesterday, headed somewhere we used to keep and ride our horse, around five miles from home. Got a lovely surprise when we got there, part of the route was fenced off, and it seems our local council have successfully won funding to restore a wonderful local landmark, one of the Wentworth Estate monuments, a historic tower called Keppel’s Column. Visitors have never been able to go up the tower in our lifetime, as it had become unsafe. But the workers explained that they had been commissioned to make safe the exterior, and refit the interior staircase, renovate/ replace the railings up on the top, so that visitors will once again be able to enjoy this landmark and the fabulous views from the top.
Photos show Wentworth Woodhouse in the distance (slightly left of centre) with the Hoober Stand at a distance on the right of the photo. Photo of Keppel’s Column, it was where we used to “rein in” the horses by going round and round after a very fast gallop! Our horse once jettisoned my OH at the bottom of the column, and made his own way home, with a very annoyed rider in hot pursuit on foot😂
Really pleased the Column is going to be looked after. Lots of local history around this area, much of it tied to the Wentworth Estates and the big house.

Thanks David, I thought I had remembered you visited the site. It was busy for half term, even the safari tents were in full use but it was nice to see lots of families enjoying themselves. We are now home, a mammoth trip seeing lots of family and friends, staying on six sites, up to Northumberland and back. However we feel pleased, after so many missed visits during Covid we now feel we've caught up with everyone (well nearly everyone.)
We arrived home, visiting dog arrived at the same time, said goodbye to daughter and partner as they hit the road north themselves....hoping they're in N Cumbria by midnight!
(TDA still hoping to visit the Wentworth estate in the future.

Our last night in France 😢 staying the night on an aire at Le Crotoy. Tunel tomorrow afternoon.
Managed to book both myself and OHs boosters and flu jabs for next week. ☺
Spending tomorrow night at Blackhorse farm then going up to visit our eldest son on Thursday, LF tests should be there for our day 2 test. Then up to see our youngest at the weekend. Then home, to a jungle of a garden, cold house and a mountain of washing. Why do we do it 😂😂😂

You would need a few days in area to do it full justice Brue, much more than just the big house. Some lovely walks, some surprising retail therapy, some great village pubs, lots of monuments, I am trying to persuade OH into a visit this coming Friday, possibly Stable Block Tour.😁

Have a safe journey home, TG. Good to read that you were able to book your booster jabs.
That's really good news, tda. It will give us another spot to visit when we get over that way again.
are now home, a mammoth trip seeing lots of family and friends, staying on six sites,
That's just a short trip for us brue, we are on our tenth site, and 1300+ mls, so far and have another 5 to visit before getting home.
,
Walked over from our current site to Old Wardour Castle today, famous as the back drop to the Robin, Prince of Thieves film!😂 It has very interesting history dating from 1390 and welll worth a visit.

Yes, I always enjoy hearing about your trips Nellie. I suppose ours was more of a whirlwind tour!
TDA I have an old friend who was brought up in your area and Wentworth never came up in the conversation...I'm going to ask her about it next time. I think we had other things on our minds when young, old estates didn't feature much!
Hope you enjoy seeing the family on your return leg TG. Glad you and others managed your trips abroad after so much waiting and uncertainty.

"That's just a short trip for us brue, we are on our tenth site, and 1300+ mls, so far and have another 5 to visit before getting home"
just off for a lye down in our caravan which is on the hardstanding next to the bungalow, you make me feel very tired Nellie, not sure how many miles we covered on our last trip (6 weeks), Devon-Malvern-Gretna-Yorkshire, but only 4 sites, more than enough for me

There’s always been a huge local interest in WW Brue, mainly because the family owned so much round here, and employed thousands in all sorts of capacities. Up to around ten years ago, very very few had actually been inside the house though, and certainly not able to wander around. This area isn’t fashionable as a holiday location, so the fact that such a big house, huge estate was here has been rather a secret. Most locals will have grown up walking some of the estate, maybe have a home built on former estate land, many, like me have relatives who worked for the Fitzwilliams. We were there the day the last private owner opened up the grounds by the house for a Classic Car show, possibly the first fully public event that happened. The queues to get down the drive, to be able to peer into some of the windows was astonishing. Luckily, it has all snowballed from there, and the house in particular is getting the care, and more importantly the funding it needs to survive. Lots of things locally are piggy backing on this now, it’s bringing tourist income into the area. The house, and the Estate are totally separate entities. The Estate isn’t just the land around here, but thousands of acres of moorlands stretching into Derbyshire, known as The Strines. Then there’s the land at Old Malton, the Peterborough Estate......

Sorting out some paperwork this morning before taking MiL to the doctors surgery for an annual blood pressure test etc.
Forgot to mention it the other day but I suppose it was going to happen one day. We popped into our new Aldi which shares the car park with McDs. It was a sunny day just after lunch time. There was a party of about 10 people all dressed up eating at one of McDs outdoor tables. It was a wedding do! Yep, some people are now having their reception at McDonalds. We know because a young lady returned to her car dressed to kill so we complimented her on her attire and she told us. No reason why they shouldn't but a sign of the times.
It's not the sort of day to be trusted weather wise out there at the moment.

Lying in bed last night having just dropped off to sleep about midnight when there was a crash of something falling to the floor in the room. Frightened the living daylight out of us. About 50 T-Light Candles, packed in a Zip Seal Food Bag had fallen off one of the shelves.
I had taken a book from behind them mid afternoon and must have just caught them and it had taken until midnight for gravity to slowly work it's magic and pull them to the floor.
It was the start of a bad nights sleep!

We once went to a wedding that had forgotten to cater for the vegetarians in the family. It was a BBQ type affair, majored on meat, with a bit of bread and salad. After a long day hanging around initially to get fed, salad and a bread bun didn’t do it for us. We left early for our two hour drive home and swanned into a McD drive through in our finery. I can’t tell you how nice that Veggie Wrap tasted!🤣
Watch out on 31st for that poltergeist WN👍

We went to a wedding a few years ago. The service was around Midday and afterwards we decamped to the reception venue a few miles away. First it was the photos and then as the afternoon wore on we eventually went inside to hopefully enjoy the wedding supper only to have to sit through speech after speech, mainly in praise of the groom, felt sorry for the bride!!! It was approaching late afternoon before we got to eat. Clearly people have no perception that people like Margaret who is a diabetic can't go half the day without food. It was a strain on those of us who aren't diabetic!!!

Similar for us at a wedding, filled with drink we were nearly keeling over by the time the food arrived. Even worse for me as we'd stayed at the hotel the night before and they served up the same vegetarian option I'd chosen the previous evening! (Mushroom risotto...didnt enjoy it much the first time round
)
TDA hope you didn't think my comments about Wentworth were due to a lack of interest on my part. I loved the Black Diamonds book you recommended about the family and the history.

I went to a funeral of Mrs WNs aunt a few years ago and I asked the barmaid in the pub if they had anything Gluten Free. They provided me with a partially thawed sandwich but also stuck a Sausage Roll and a meat pie on the same plate.
Hello!!! Oh, you mean meat pie has flour in it???
Fortunately I keep an energy bar in the car for emergencies. I now take my own sandwiches if going to places where I have no idea what's on offer on the basis that I don't mind throwing them away if not used.

Grey and breezy day round South Cheshire, but surprisingly warm for the time of year, so, apart from visiting Farmer C for another months supply of pills and Insulin, I've kept out of the wind for fear of it raining and decided to do a good days laundry { ooo, ABM can be a good lad when he puts his mind to it ~~ about twice a year according to those who know
}
Hope that you all are taking great care of yourselves, especially WN, whom I hope has stocked up on different flavoured energy bars -- purely for emergencies of course

I think the couple I mentioned got married at Noon, then it was hours of photos, speeches, this that and the other. I think it was around 7pm before food was served, and then there was almost nothing for us. It was quite a remote location as well, so we were ravenous. But yes, not good for diabetics etc....
We have solved the next family Wedding. It’s taking place at a very nice big hall not too far away. But we have booked MH into caravan site on grounds, so the dog is going with us, we can do our own thing if we get fed up, and we can definitely eat this time😂

Thank you Brian. I do sometimes find that, despite bouncing with energy, I have to eat them as sell by date looms (or occasionally has passed!).

Did your OH make light of the incident, WN?

Now on another CL that is new to us, Kingstone Fm, Marlborough, after an easy drive up from Ansty. Even the A303 was quiet heading East from the Amesbury roundabout. The site is directly opposite Savenake Forest so plenty of walking opportunities.

We are back in good old blighty
currently on Black horse farm. Site about 50% occupancy. Pretty windy.
Journey went well we even got put on an earlier train.
By the time we get home we will have covered around 5000 miles, 3 countries, 26 sites, 3 aires and 1 CL in 9 weeks.
Since we left home we have always had a phone signal until today
Black horse farm must be in a black hole. Neither of us has a signal. The site wifi works though.

Slight hold up with the new bathroom.......builders' van had a bad puncture on the way here yesterday, and they could not get the spare wheel out of its holder to use. One of them had to take the punctured wheel all the way across town to source a new tyre, so it was late morning before they got here.
They had hoped to be finished today, but ran out of time, so will have to return tomorrow to fit the toilet and the shower drainage. Will not make any difference to us as I will need at least a couple of weeks to do all the fitting of cupboards, countertop, door facings, basin and flooring, assuming we can get the materials required. DD was helping us look for some stuff on line today, and found quite a few things are unavailable at present.
Could be a while before it is all finished!
We are now thinking about whether we should get the upstairs bathroom renovated next year. It is smaller, so will be less work, builders are going to take a look tomorrow and measure up so they can give us a price if we decide to go for it.

Well after an early morning scramble to book our covid boosters we can now progress through the day in a more seemly fashion....
All this bathroom talk, OH is 2/3rds of the way doing daughters, visited friends who still have their new bathroom stacked in their dining room, our own bathroom is showing it's age but I'm now tempted just to make do and mend! It was the first "room" we did when we moved here, it was like an underwater cave, deep turquoise blue all over with a mouldy black ceiling. We asked a friend to help out and he managd to chip every new item going in, I've got used to seeing these things (I think?!)
In the meantime I have another load of things to go to the charity shop or tip and another clear out to do so that our Christmas guests aren't climbing over the boxes in December.
Very dark this morning and still mild. Not looking forward to the darker evenings but then it won't be too long till they start reversing.

That was our first site after we changed the moho last August. Couldn't get a TV signal and the phones were a bit iffy too. If you like nostalgia, have a look at the petrol pumps just up the road.

brue.......OH says if it were not for the fact that advancing age and dodgy knees meant we really wanted an easy access shower instead of a bath, taking the cost and mess into account, due to having to get someone else in to do the heavy work, she would just have kept the old bathroom!
We like this house, having designed it and had it built to our spec, so we would really like to stay here as long as possible. We have our living areas upstairs and our current bedroom and en-suite is downstairs, so we are working towards having all we need on one level upstairs should the stairs become a big problem. A stair lift would then be needed.
Also upstairs is the former "granny flat" where MIL stayed, which consists of a large lounge, double bedroom, bathroom and decent size kitchen. So far we have taken over the lounge as a study, the kitchen is a work in progress as we do not need it as a kitchen, it could become a utility room.
At present we are using the bedroom and the bathroom while ours is out of use. If we did need to have everything on one level, we would definitely need to renovate the bathroom up here too, so we are considering that for next year.
OH is already worrying about the mess that would make. At the moment we seem to have dust everywhere, despite trying to keep doors closed as much as possible, and the builders being very careful, so it will be a big clean up job.
