Sorry to take up bandwidth with a another test post but I have had difficulty with this thread all day and yes I have been in contact with Rowena. There still seem to be a couple of pages I can't access. Lets see if this works?

    David

Edit, it seems to have worked although it took a while to appear!!!

Booster and flu jab yesterday at local leisure centre, arranged by our Dr surgery. Booster 182 days after second one so finally very efficient. Feeling very under the weather this morning but not sure why, could be a few reasons. Both arms very painful in the night so only a couple of hours sleep, hurt much more than before, didn’t even know that I’d had it last time,  but not moaning just very grateful to get it. Pfizer jab this time Oxford one before. Also I forgot to take my thyroid medication yesterday so that could be a reason for feeling rough today. Lots to do so hopefully I’ll buck up later.

Thanks for getting the tech help David. Hope the web site steadies itself now.

A wild night indeed JVB, I thought we were going to take off from our present NE cliffs site! We could feel the force of the wind moving the van. Sunny now, of course. smile

Hope you feel better soon Debsc, sounds like a reaction I've heard about. But some are perfectly OK, good to get it done.

Will await to hear what TDA has been up to!? wink

When I tested the system and booked  yesterday, for OH and myself ,it stated on the website wait for an invitation?

I still can't access the page a couple of days ago but never mind.

Amended my booster jab for a week earlier, hooray.

Took MiL to town as taxi service, then picked up a Click and Collect from Tesco. I think if I lived in England I would be using C&C more often and for more of my shopping. Mask wearing in Wales in shops has declined a little but not as much as in England.

MiL was a bit groggy after her booster, DEBSC, which is quite unlike her (unless she's hit the gin bottlelaughing) but it just meant an early night and a sore arm. She seem fine today. Hope the effect of the jab wears off soon.

That'll be page 4656 of blessed memory I suppose  WN  innocent -- that's the only one I'm unable to access anyway  !

Brian is all chirpy now 'cos his Flu Jab was done five minutes early this morning at my local Well Farmer C which was fully staffed by ladies I've never seen there before, but then I've only been using their services since my diabetes was discovered just after Caesar left to find conkers elsewither wink.

Hope you all are looking forward to testing the heating tonight  !! Not sure how cold it will be since our tame  BBC chappy, Owain is banging on about a 24 hour drum roll for Children in Need,  noisy pup !!

Another lovely sunny day here, the garage clearance continues.

DD is becoming  exasperated with me as I am reluctant to part with all the wood I have accumulated, and dried, for woodturning.  But she is right......I need to let go!    Now loading up some to go to DS for his log burner, and if the 2 women in my life get their way, he will be getting a lot more!

DS is listing quite a bit of the garage contents on freecycle, seems to be quite a lot of interested takers.   Better than just chucking it in the skip we  currently have here.

Work on the bathroom renovation is ongoing, we had the plasterer today to skim the ceiling, and the installation of the shower valve is complete.  This involved a lot of turning water off and on, so man6 trips into the loft.

I think the shower tray will go in tomorrow, and the tiling be started.  We were out today to fetch the tile cement etc as requested by the builders, so I think we now have all we need.

The skim coated ceiling will need to be painted, that may be OK to do, by me, on Sunday and Monday, tiler will leave off the top row of tiles till I get it done.

Our  mahogany door facings did not survive removal attempts, so now we need to source replacements, which will not be easy.......or inexpensive!

The workmen might be finished by Tuesday, then it will be over to me for the rest.

Ha😁 Glad to say we have had a good day, and our “challenge” went well.

OH arrived on CL on Sunday, and MH ended up in a swamp. Subsequent nights of rain added to the moat surrounding us, but being us, we sort of didn’t panic. We couldn’t take her off site, but hadn’t planned to in truth, as we had the Jeep with us as I had ferried Mum and Sis up to their accommodation separately. But would the Jeep haul out a much heavier vehicle, and importantly, without doing too much damage to either vehicles, or the CL turf?

In the end, it turned out to be rather easy, needing just a good tow rope, a bit of steady low range starting, some decent tyres and some know how, which OH has in spades. No wheel spin at all, and that was hauling her up and off wedges and up hill!

It’s all rather interesting, as our very big Jeep matches to pull only a ton of caravan. The MH weighs 3.5 tons, but the Jeep hardly even knew she was on the back this morning, no wheel spin at all, in quite awful conditions.

Anyway, it was an interesting morning, not least for Mum and Sis. I think the pooch just slept through it all. We are all back home now after good drives home, MH via Selby, and me via Helmsley and Wetherby. However, must try not to pick a swampy pitch next time out😂

Thank you for your thoughts ABM, but I fear there will be little rest for me between now and Christmas!

DD is intent on keeping the momentum going on the garage clearance, and I appreciate her help, so that is the priority meantime.   However, once the main work on the bathroom is done, I will be fitting the new countertop, the basin, replacing all the cupboards etc, finishing the tiling, and laying the floor, so the garage will then be on the back burner for a while

Glad the challenge went well, tda. I'm sure that the pair of you knew full well that the jeep, in the capable hands of your OH, would have been up to the job.

Hope that you are feeling better tomorrow, Debs. Pleased to read that others too are now getting their boosters.

We had very heavy rain overnight resulting in the River Axe overflowing it's banks and flooding the surrounding fields and the road past the site, which is not that unusual as the area is a flood plain. When we got up at 7:30 our route up onto main road was under a metre or so of flood water, having been backed up by the full tide. It took until after 12:00 before it had subsided sufficiently enough for us to consider leaving the site with the van. We had originally intended to use the A358 through Axminster and Chard up to the A30 and to follow it to Shaftsbury and onto our next site at Ansty. However because of advice from a friend we chose to use the longer but mostly easier A35 past Dorchester to the A354 and A350 to Shaftsbury. It turned out that we made the right choice as the A358 was flooded and impassable north of Axminster. We are now set up at Copse Side CL which overlooks, and is within walking distance of, the downs of Cranborne Chase. It is a clear sky tonight and the full moon is looking down on us just now, so could be a rather chilly night.

Goodness, water, water everywhere for TDA and Nellie! Glad you all managed to get through. Hope you enjoy Cranborne Chase Nellie, some good walks around there. We've used the site at Sixpenny Handley a lot in the past, Cranborne itself is nice, especially if the Manor House gardens are open.

We're having a meal out tonight, seeing family.

Good luck with "pin pricks" ABM. wink

Did anyone watch the new "Shetland" programme this week? I'm hooked!!

It’s going to be a “watery Winter” I think😁 Glad you got out Nellie. It all adds to the fun of year round touring. MH is in for MOT Monday, so fingers crossed. Somewhat surprisingly, she isn’t lathered in mud underneath, so won’t be too onerous getting her sorted this weekend.

I think North Wales will be HS pitches only though, no Jeep with us on that planned trip. (C19 rates allowing of course).

Very Autumnal now here, temps have dropped quite substantially. We got the lovely clear moon last night as well. We still got the hooting owl, but no steam trains whistling last night😁

    Covid boosters to sort next.👍

We missed Shetland, it clashed with Hollington Place on ITV which Mrs M was following, though I gave up on it after a couple of episodes where I couldn't follow the mumbling! frown

But we will watch it on iPlayer, all the stories have been good, as might be expected, based on Ann Cleeves books. Oddly enough, though, we never really got into watching her Vera series. Maybe we've missed out on something equally good.

It's going to get a bit confusing though with ITV about to start "The Long Call", the first in her new Two Rivers series.

We tour all year round but only use hardstanding pitches so don't tend to have much bother. Our Volvo V70 is front wheel drive so doesn't like wet muddy fields a couple of years ago we were on a CL in Lancashire and had a hardstanding pitch but sily me strayed on to the grass in front of the pitch when reversing the van in and unfortunately dug two big trenches on the nice grass with my front wheels lol fortunately the CL owner was fine about it as they were adding two new hardstanding pitches in that area anyway so were just about to dig it up hehe. About 10 years ago we were towing with a Ford Mondeo which was a great tow car but again front wheel drive and we got stuck on a grass pitch near Edinburgh and had to get both the van and car towed out by a tractor so we only ever use hardstanding in the winter now.

Lovely sunny day here today but very cold. We have a family birthday party to attend tonight so looking forward to that and catching up with the family. WN and Nellie will be shocked as I still haven't had a chance to clean the car or van since our return from Chester last week so that's a job on the list for tomorrow.

Wow!!! this forum same as same as, laughing

after 8 weeks away 6 in the UK Devon/Cornwall/Malvern HIlls/Dumfries&Galloway/Yorkshire/couple of weeks in Spain, and as we had some club gift vouchers to use we broke our duck and used 2 club sites, Malvern Hills & York Beechwood, both had great dog walks which is a tick in the box for us, Malvern Hills has some 200 pitches which is a little large for us but was only 50Pct full which was great, York Beechwood, although almost full, very expensive, is a great site with almost new facilities block with underfloor heating etc, so both sites were a great experience for us.

Returned to find our weather just as great as when we left, dont know why we bother to go away to be honest, but they say a change is as good as a rest, and we also grew our family, this is Bentley just 11 weeks old, his mother is a cross cocker/labrador (Daughters bitch), his father was pure bred cocker, so he is a cocker/cocker/dor, Daisy was only supposed to have 6 puppies then out popped Bentleylaughing, couldnt resist keeping him in the family, and he is loving the caravan already.

I know you were asking for sites near Beaumaris when down that way but there isn't a lot of choice at this time of year with H/S. If you want H/S and to be on Angelsey then try The Brambles C.L. It's near Newborough Warren but a half an hour will see you at Beaumaris.

Thanks WN👍 I was going to ask😁 We have been to Anglesey before, but never overnighted, so it’s an area we aren’t too sure about. Beaumaris Castle is the draw, so either go to Castle and stay, or stay and visit castle next day then head to another Site on mainland. That’s hoping 🤞 all is ok C19 wise of course. Once in North Wales, the big castles are the draw (not Harlech this time, we did Harlech last year) so open to suggested CLs etc..... 👍

Like the new puppy Rufs and already settled in to caravan life.

Malvern is my old home area plenty f walks on the hills.

Have had some lovely sunny days and now very foggy am and damp but dry this afternoon but much cooler 14C but looks like warmer again for Saturday and Sunday, just been tidying a few more things in the garden and OH sorting out a new shutter for kitchen window so left jim to it in his shed.

TDA as to moving your m/v with your jeep glad went all ok and it reminded us of a Somerset rally in early 1989 on the Blackdown hills the field had a slight rise to the pitching areas and a shogun towing a twin axle got stuck so one of the rally folk got his classic Range Rover and attached a very strong towing rope and towed both vehicle and caravan to where they were going to be pitched no problem at all but owner of shogun did not think it could be done and to think a few years later OH has had 4 classic Range Rovers at that rally we had a Volvo 240 estate.

Glad you got to your next cl NTH and avoided the floods.

    Have a good weekend folks.

School holidays for the next fortnight here and looks like folk having booking holidays at home.

    TTda,

If it's a site for castles you are after then you might try Bryn Llys (lovely site) at Bethesda as this will allow you to go to Caernarfon as well as Beaumaris. It's about the same distance to Beaumaris as The Brambles.

Depends whether you want to take in some other EH sites on the island as there are quite a lot of them.

There are 2 CLs at Tyn-y-Groes near Conway but it's ages since we stayed at either of them so couldn't give a recommendation. Seems to have changed a bit since we were last there and we vowed not to go back then. Might give it another try this winter as there is not a lot of H/S sites around which are Open All Year. Not sure if you've been to Conwy castle.

Rain interrupted any chance of a long walk.laughing

Thanks to all for the good wishes following our flood avoidance. Think it's the first time we've had to delay leaving a site for that reason.

Tda, have u checked that the castles you intend visiting are open all week, as some may only be open on Saturday and Sunday?I

Francis, I see that you are following the WN trend of leaving the van cleaning for a time while you recover from your exertions of being away!wink

Brue, we were up on part of the Chase today, walking from the site, Copse Side Farm at Ansty. Had to turn back from part of our planned route because of cows with calves, and then the track had huge waterlogged depressions we couldn't circumvent. Still it was a lovely day with warm sunshine but a little chilly in the shade.

Thank you for your good wishes wrt my 5 - fingers of blood today, Brue !  As it happened I arrived ten minutes early, found myself a comfortable seat and sat back to wait.  As it turned out I'd barely warmed the seat when Angie yelped my name out and told me to get my waterproof coat off and turn my sleeve up ! Utterly painless and quick with it -- probably helped by her having had a hip replacement herself back in May.  I did ask what sort of hip it was because I'd heard the news about the Americans having done a heart transplant on a 'brain-dead '  patient using a  heart from a Pig surprised.  All seems to have gone aok  for both the American recipient** & yours truly { If I look at my arm under a bright reading lamp I can just, but only just, see a tiny red mark where the needle went in ~~ Now that is GOOD  smile }  So now I'm Triple C19, Single Flu jabbed, successfully retinal Checked and just awaiting Blood results.

**  I was led to understand that after a suitable period of time the pigs heart would be removed to allow for some serious checks to take place  ~~ if its finally classed as a good safe system then more transplants, world-wide could take place, saving more lives without waiting for 'donors' to die first.  We can but hope.

Hope that you lot out there, swanning round the world are going to have as successful a week as I've had  --  Take care, keep safe, warm & dry  laughing
