The day I retired I took my watch off and for 8 years never felt the need for one and the bonus of no white ring on my wrist, an even suntan achieved.  Two years ago the family brought me a Fitbit for Christmas and I wouldn’t be without it now

Drive down to Canterbury went without a hitch, M25 busy as usual.

Lots of empty pitches here, site nice and roomy with 2 good newish blocks.

Weather has been cold, grey and miserable since we left Scotland.

Watches, I have 4, usually wear one unless gardening. OH  probably has more and always wears one.

NTH, Jedburgh's toilet block still as it was, reminds me of my old school PE showers 😁 the block at Teversal was nice but no heating on, all windows open and it was freezing.

Good to hear folk are enjoying there trips away, even if the promised heatwave didn't happen.

"I had a Snoopy watch for years, his arms (legs?) went round to tell the time. Still got this too."

Hee hee, ttda - that made me chuckle - one of the faces you can select on the Apple watch is Mickey Mouse that does the same thing - plus it speaks the time as well! Totally daft.

That said, the face I select most of the time is the one with great big numbers since it's the only one I can make out without my specs on!

I use the move bar & prompt to aid my fitness regime, I set it, but if I sit too long-on line or watching a movie it vibrates on my wrist-I check in & in bold it tells me in a shouty way to move😱. I love tech but I’m not going to be shouted at by a watch, that’s just freaky, I disabled it👍🏻😊

Last night the last of the clamp silage went in the pit. It still has to be rolled and sheeted up, but will be done by dinner time. I'm always caught out by how quickly the grass comes in and it's all done and dusted, and I still have a fridge full of cold meat and pies etc (for lunch boxes) and tins full of cake. But it makes for an easy dinner today.

A thought - we call the midday meal "dinner". But if it's delivered in a plastic box(ex ice cream) it's a "lunch box".

Then this afternoon one of my bridesmaids from 51 years ago (and her husband) are coming for a quick visit. Not seen them for four years. A good job I have some cake and biscuits left.

But the real highlight of the day (of the year) will be tonight - a real live gig with real live music. The best band in the world for uplift and absolute joy - Merry Hell. Just 45 minutes away at Settle. Excitement is rumbling through me as I write.

    Merry Hell

A sample - many more onlne

I have always found it strange that timepieces - clocks or watches - were traditionally given as retirement presents. The time in our lives when we don't have to 'clockwatch'!. When my watch went for repair recently I wore my Dad's watch that was presented to him when he left his firm in London to move here. It is inscribed on the back. It is a wind up watch.

    Another grey overcast day here.

Took the bus into Canterbury this morning £7 return for the 2 of us, not sure if that is VFM or not as we rarely use buses. Seemed a lot for just over a mile ride.

Didn't think much to Canterbury to be honest, pretty grubby and unkept. Not much evidence of mask wearing going on or hand sanitizing, mind you some places have removed sanitizer's altogether. Lots of rough sleepers on the streets, some begging others just sitting. We didn't hang around, came back to site for lunch then went out on the bikes. Now just chilling before dinner, early night tonight for us as up sharp tomorrow for tunnel ☺

Hoping to find some space and sun over there, its getting way to crowded down here for us, not used to it.

Our third day here in Banchory, lovely sunshine after 2 greyish days.  Too hot to sit in the sun, or in the awning, but a nice breeze when out walking.

Monday we had tea and biscuits and a good catch up with OH's elderly cousin in Aberdeen, Tuesday we had a lunch invitation from a former work colleague and his wife, so a lot more chatting as we had not met up with them for several years.

Today we took a trip to Ballater for lunch and a wander around, then returned home by the scenic route up in the hills, superb views as the road climbs to over 1800 feet.

Last day here tomorrow, not sure what we will do, then heading further north on Friday.

Roads were quite busy when we travelled up on Sunday, but most people were heading south.  A9 at Perth was particularly busy.  Not too crowded up here as the schools are all back, but still quite a few visitors around.  The site here has been full every night.

Talk about out of the frying pan etc.laughing Phew.

Had a lovely 20+ mile cycle ride today on the Tarka Trail, out from CL site towards Barnstaple. Day was warm(ish) without being sunny. Sat eating our sandwiches at Fremington Quay when we saw a Kingfisher on the estuary flying towards us. If only all butty stops were like that.smile

The trail was quite busy this morning but less so after lunchtime.

    Off for a walk tomorrow.

TG, we found Canterbury to be like you did and we didn't tarry long the last and only time we paid it a visit. I remember it was early March and snowing badly so we caught a bus from outside BHFarm site. The city couldn't be bothered to salt the cobblestones. I often think there's a lot of latent money in Kent but it always seems to be poor and there are many people just scraping a living.

Have a safe journey wherever you end up.👋

Well you really are in our area Wherenext, we live in Fremington. Often see the kingfisher darting about down there. Small Egrets on the way from the quay to Yelland.

I do sincerely apologise for adding to the visitor numbers Debsc. I know you have had too many already.

I naively thought school would have started again this week. Not too happy with visitor numbers myself but that's being hypocritical. I'll be gone by Sunday.

I bet you enjoy out of season times. We are often drawn to estuaries. Consider them interesting at most times of the year.

No you are very welcome Wherenext. Although plenty still about, it has gone considerably quieter this week, maybe down to getting ready for school. We tend to stop home more during the six weeks or pop off to Stratford to our static. We don’t do beaches in summer, just walks out of season and the Tarka trail is our often route.

The businesses need the customers after the close downs but sadly three pubs/restaurants locally have closed again. Two due to staff having to isolate, rates are very high here again. Another one due to shortage of staff, then staff being off, the pub has been packed with so many holidaymakers and, due to waiting times, some customers have been very rude and aggressive to staff. Due to all of this, the owner decided to shut for two weeks until after the school hols, which is a shame.

I hope the clouds part and you enjoy the rest of your break Wherenext, and everyone else who is away.

A wonderful night out yesterday. Our first live music since December 2019. And the best band ever to celebrate with. Full of joy and laughter. Tears of happiness somehow pouring down my cheeks. And I apologise to anyone who was astounded to see a rather large elderly lady dancing in front of the stage.I was not alone, I hasten to add.

We are on our second Site now, happily pitched up in the very nice CL like area at Exeter Racecourse. Love this Site, it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but for us, it’s good points far outweigh the negative. We are off for a forest bike ride later, chill out day after travelling yesterday.

We have arrived in France 😊

Got the tunnel this morning, no issues. We even got put on an earlier train.

Passports not stamped, no checks for food. French border force didn't ask for Covid passport, neither did they ask for the entry form that is required. Very few caravans or MHs on our train.

We are on our first ever Aire for the night. Moving on to Nancy area tomorrow for the weekend.

Did some shopping on route, prices gone up like back home but it has been 2 years since we were last here. Fuel is a bit less than UK, so that has gone down, it was dearer last time.

Looking forward to a good holiday, now all the stress of getting here is over.☺

Yes there is DK, a vehicle and pedestrian underpass. Not sure where bus stops are to be honest though. I think the bus goes into Matford P&R, which is only a couple of miles from the Racecourse. From there, I can only assume you would get a second bus into the City Centre. The Racecourse is almost 8.5 miles from the City Centre. We used to drive into Exeter when we had van, would park up in multi storey close by Cathedral and walk. It takes about 10 minutes by car. I think you might be looking at much, much longer using buses. Half way house might be to park MH at P&R, then the one much more frequent bus into City Centre from there. It would be worth doing, it’s a very very interesting City, Centre is a mix of very old, and very modern. Cathedral alone is worth seeing, but the Castle and Quay areas are interesting as well. It’s got Roman ruins as well.

Exeter Racecourse isn’t an easy Site to get out and about from with a big MH if you like to use public transport. Most of the big MH’s here at the moment (and some are huge, Concorde, Winnebago, big American RV’s) have a car in tow. Others, including some MHs are on seasonal pitches, with folks coming and going by car. Location wise, it’s great though for just so many different places to visit.

This is us tonight, loads of room, and good firm underwheel surface in sheltered copse area. Other part of Site is in front of Grandstand, usual minimum spacing on hardstandings. It’s quieter down here as well, a lot further away from A38 traffic.

Yes, we have paid £15.49 per night, great value. It’s cheaper of course for one person, so better value than most CLs.

Have a good time TG, glad you are off to where you love.

Had a drive out to Hartland Abbey today. Very nice place. Didn't have the energy to do the full walk that we had planned. Might nip back on Saturday but we are out on the bikes tomorrow so more than likely not. For those that know the drive to the Abbey then you'll be surprised at myself at having to reverse to let a man and his caravan past just by the Abbey entrance.😱 He was on his way to the site at Stoke Barton just up the road.

Had a good day today as it turned out to be just a "1 plaster" day to stem the bleeding on a cut sustained on my shin whilst walking in the gardens. Mrs WN did mention it was a good job she didn't feint at the sight of blood otherwise she would have spent a lot of time theatrically falling.laughing

Which reminds me to put plasters and anti septic wipes down on the shopping list.

Good to hear most others faring well.

Thanks for that, I didn't realise there was an underpass. Couldn't see us nipping across the road and the barriersmile There are apparently two bus services along that road with at least an hourly service. We have no plans at the moment to visit but I like to gather information that may be of use in the future.

It’s a superb location for lots of areas close by, such as up onto Dartmoor, across towards Jurassic Coast, down onto Devon Riviera. Some nice NT and HHA properties not far away as well. But not as easy without a car, it’s one of those Sites where if you are staying, it’s better to have a car/van combo, or at least have a towed car with you. Like many, we used it as an overnight stop to head to Cornwall. But we came back the same holiday and had a full week exploring we liked it so much. Good for wildlife as well, deer all over, lots of different birds.
