My unreadable photo of a notice outside the Old Smithy Inn, Welcombe, on a previous page stated that camper vanners could park up for free overnight as long as they handed in their reg.nos and bought a meal. (also part of BritStops)

Since then I've thought about these bargain overnight stops...we paid £7.00 for the nearby CL and £38 for a meal and drinks at the pub. So work out which is the best place to stay if you don't want a meal out and which is the most expensive if you do both!? wink kiss....it was a birthday meal. laughing

Brue,  in all fairness should I use the pubs facilities for a nights pleasure ~~ a meal and a drink or two and just a few paces to my 'van with the licence kept clean & safe, ~~  then I think that I would find the cost reasonable enough  wink.

I do hope that all of you and yours enjoyed the Birthday Party  smile

Well a very lazy day, up latish, big breakfast then just walked around Grasmere. In the afternoon had a ride on the open top bus to Windermere, quite fun really. Warm to hot day but overcast mainly. Warming up for the next few days. Now just resting before dinner.

Another warm, sunny day here, just as all the schools went back! our 2 youngest grandchildren started secondary school today and all seems to have gone well so far.

I was on duty at the Cathedral this morning - an extra day for me this week covering for someone who did my shift a few weeks ago when we were away.  It was much quieter today as no children came in with their parents/grandparents to see the Moon Floor exhibition. We have great changes going on as we are to have a new shop and Welcome desk installed soon so everything was being moved around in preparation.

I hope you have a good day on Wednesday Goldie and that the new hat is a success.

Lovely photos of a lovely part of the country Corners.

I am so glad that your Setter Walk went so well moulesy and that a good amount was raised for such a good cause.

    What a belter of a day.☀️☀️☀️

Found a back route to North Sands car park area by Salcombe (but managed to bag a free parking space on a road nearby👍) Set off on a lovely walk, firstly inland then we came back via the SW coastal path. Splendiferous.

I don't think there was a flat bit in the whole walk but most enjoyable. We managed to avoid chaotic Salcombe on our return home. The area has seen some very, very expensive new residences (not necessarily homes) since our last visit. London by the Sea methinks.

Hope everyone else had a decent day.

Good luck with the travel tomorrow Nellie. And I hope the "do" goes spiffingly well for Goldie and her OH.

Goldie, hope that all goes well for you both at the show, and that you enjoy your night away too. We decided to head off a day earlier than originally planned so hopefully to avoid any possible traffic jams at the M6 junction.

WN, sounds like a good day out, and that the weather has improved for you. Has been warm here but nothing like the sunshine that you are having in Devon, as seen on the coverage of the ToB.

Millie, you seem to be getting into the swing again at the Cathedral. Is OH still volunteering in the Cathedral's garden?

Changed sites today now in Turckheim in the Alsace. Hot and sunny 27c but with some clouds, haven't seen any for the last 3 days.

Site very busy, very few pitches available when we arrived just after lunch. Lots of folk seem to be booking ahead this year. Not something we've experienced before over here.

Glad to hear everyone having a good time and that you now have some good weather to enjoy.

Retirement, we retired 10 years ago. Ferry was booked for 2 days after OH finished. We had planned to travel as much as we could. Still planning to do so. As Millie said best job we've had.

Lovely day here too in N Warks.  Spent most of the day in the garden cutting the overhanging hedge from the garden at the side, weeding, cleaning and setting back up the water feature, emptying the pots that have housed annual and had now died off.  Then, after tea, I've sat outside until 10pm - still in tee shirt.  Tomorrow, the front garden and hopefully clean the car...

Congratulations Mrs Cornersteady on retirement, lovely photos Moulsey.  Glad you are still able to help out at the cathedral, Millie and enjoy the Alsace, Tammygirl.  Enjoy the weather everyone - I think we're in for another lovely day tomorrow, and hopefully Wednesday.

It has been a very warm  day up here in Aberdeenshire/Moray too, and no rain.  Lovely sunset.  Farmers very busy gathering in their crops, mainly barley and oats I think.

We had lunch out again today, so no need for more than a sandwich this evening.  Bit of shopping.....milk etc.....should last us till after we get to Dingwall on Wednesday.  Not sure what we are going to do tomorrow.

I got a couple more souvenirs yesterday as well WN, two whacking great bruises, testimony to the power of the sea. We had a lovely picnic lunch yesterday, parked up in fields at NT car park at Gunwalloe. Gorgeous day so decided on a swim off Dollar Cove. It’s not the easiest of places to get in for me, large pebbles underfoot. But flip flops on, we crept down to tide line. Only to be unceremoniously knocked off our feet, thrashed around in surf, and dealt with like a pair of recalcitrant underpants in a Hotpoint! We were fine once out of our depth and the surf, but the journey back ashore was interesting. Hands and knees, clinging on as the undertow tried to drag us back. The worse part was the pebbles. Idiot that I am, I should have brought my beach shoes. Fabulous once out swimming though. Will be a Sandy beach today, much easier on the tootsies. Church visit as well,St Winwalloe, the Church of the Storms. Bell tower starting to disappear under sand again. And a great spot, close up view of a Chough, playing in the breeze around the Tower, came to rest right in front of us.😁

Dollar Cove with a really big surf. It’s where the shipwreck scenes in the Poldark remake were filmed.

Gosh you were both lucky TDA, that happened to me in Spain years ago and it was very scary.

Were you looking for lost treasure?! I think that's how the cove got it's name? wink

I will look forward to reports of a safer adventure in the Jubilee Pool!!

That must have been a very scary experience for you both TtDA, and one reason why I never go near the water now having had a similar experience some years ago on an apparently calm beach in Cyprus. Mrs M still braves the waves (she still has the home made wooden body board her Dad used well into his 80's) but hasn't ventured in at all this year. Maybe now that the crowds are dispersing she'll make it next time we're down. It will be the first time in over 30 years if she misses our completely.

Thats not good AD, terrible way to go. That’s not a photo from yesterday, nothing like as rough. We assessed the conditions carefully I can assure you, we had no intention of being statistics. My particular problem was underfoot, difficult to balance on the pebbles. The undertow was on an incoming tide.

Todays swim totally different, Sandy beach, walked straight out, choppy though, and you had to swim diagonal to avoid being taken onto nearby rocks. Mounts Bay, always breezy, but blowing a real hoolie today. Lovely and warm though. Cycling back to Site up the hill from Plain an Gwarry into a headwind took some doing😁

Jubilee Pool has now got a thermal pool. Might give this a try next, sounds lovely. Probably in the rain....😂

What a frightening experience TDA. I had a similar experience many years ago body boarding off Putsborough beach in N. Devon. A huge wave hit me and dragged me under.  I have never been so terrified.  I can still remember how frightened I was trying to swim my way to the surface and also being worried that my body board would hit me as it was also being hurled about.  We had been body boarding off that beach for years with no problem but it made me very wary after that.

Yes nellie by OH still gardens one morning a week at the Cathedral.  He should be going tomorrow but might give it a miss in this heat.  Where he gardens is an enclosed walled garden and a bit of a heat trap.

We got a brief glimpse of the Red Arrows this afternoon as they flew over our garden which was a bit of a treat.

My Goodness Ttda. 😱 Try to have a boring time from now on eh?

Millie, were the Red Arrows just for you or did everyone share them? What a kind thought from them if the former.😁

Tammy, we really like that area you are in. We have been known to cycle down from Ribeauville to the Rhine and catch a foot ferry across the Rhine to Germany for the day.

Had one or two scary moments ourselves today darting around back lanes in Devon that could only take 1 vehicle. There was some sort of incident on one of the "normal" back roads, the ones with passing places, and traffic was heaving so Mrs.WN kindly led me astray (again!)😂

She wanted to draw a scene of Burgh Island so we had to brave the Sun and Sand brigade at the start to get to where she wanted to be. Once there, with no-one else within sight never mind nearby, we were fine and we eventually had a pleasant walk to boot, including the lovely looking village of Ringmore with its thatched cottages. A lot breezier today and the weather is due to go downhill for a couple of days.

Got away around 9:15 this morning, as planned, and all was going well before seeing matrix sign warnings of hold ups between Junct. 19 and 17 on M6, following an accident where an HGV driver died when his lorry crashed into a bridge. We were turning off at J 19 so ploughed on only to meet the holdup just 1 ml before our turning. That mile took us about an hour to get through so arrived at the site later than expected, but not a problem as there is only one other unit on it. Has been very hot this afternoon, but much more comfortable now, with the sun disappearing behind the farm house and not a breath of wind.

Tda, that was some scary experience, glad to read that the both of you are relatively unharmed, and that you had a less exciting day today.

WN, you are certainly getting some walking miles under your belt. Hope that the weather keeps fine and reasonably dry over the next couple of days for those out and about.

    Hi Nellie.

Yes we have been on the go for over a fortnight but looks like we'll get a bit of a lie-in tomorrow morning as rain in the forecast along with thunderstorms. Quite windy now.

Tough on the lorry driver. That stretch of the M6 has always been dreadful. Glad you arrived safe and sound anyway.

Hope we haven't seen the last of the good weather for the trip and that you get your share of it.

Glad folks are enjoying their breaks away and glad all safe TDA.

Too hot here today 34C and a very hot wind yuck, so a bit of dead heading before it got hot and OH doing a few chores then both inside with a few more inside chores.

Off to Villefrance shopping early tomorrow before the heavy storms appear as it looks like we are in the direct line of the storm so strong winds and hail not keen on heavy hail as we do not have anywhere to park the cars or caravan under cover so hope it will not to bad.

We also had a nasty experience with rip tides many years ago at Bude North Cornwall and we were only upto our waists and got swept out but the life guards were brilliant and got us all out about 18 folk and we were between the flags and it was a very calm day, not to be repeated and still remember as if it was yesterday.

WN I would like to think that the Red Arrows were just for us as they flew directly over our garden 😁. I remember those Devon lanes with the 'passing places' and the resulting traffic jams very well 😮 Must be even worse now as the cars are much bigger.

Millie - I would like to think that the Red Arrows were just for us as they flew directly over our garden,

We had a similar experience a few years ago when we kept our boat in Burton Waters Marina - near Lincoln and a stone's throw away from Scampton. We were having a birthday party on board with a few friends - and since I share a birthday with the Queen's official birthday (some years!), the Red Arrows came back from their flight down the Mall and, as is their usual practice did a spectacular 'bomb burst' right over the boat before returning to base. Needless to say our friends commented "How on earth did you manage to arrange that?"!!embarassed I kept quiet knowing full well it's a tradition they have maintained for the people of Lincoln for years!

It’s not mine Rocky😂 Fantastic little beach. You don’t go in for a swim when it looks like that though. It’s one of two beaches separated only by a Church hidden in the dunes. Church Cove and Dollar Cove, at Gunwalloe.

It wasn’t frightening getting in, just frustrating for me on the pebbles. Once past the surf line, we had a very enjoyable swim. No wind today, it will be like a mill pond.😁
