A group of us had a hike around Hayburn Wyke & a meal at the Hayburn Wyke Inn yesterday the W3W-cape.incensed.committed, Home made food, good portions, good prices, plenty of room to park & stay either camping in their field or B&B at the Inn. Nothing but good to say about the whole experience. Not far away is a waterfall that flows thru the valley over the land & splashes onto the beach, beautiful part of North Yorkshire. The waterfall is accessible from the Inn(with care) the hike is for seasoned hikers mind👍🏻

We would love to Nellie, Dartmoor is always a fantastic watch, as you can see them coming at various points from top of a Tor. But it’s a heck of a hike up very busy roads, with roadworks, so no, not this time. It would normally take a couple of hours from here up to Okehampton, but traffic was bad, and we were delayed a good hour and half arriving on Friday, bad RTA, a camper van, didn’t look good, camper was a write off, occupants were in ambulance being taken away, and not concious either☹️
No, we are up early ready for a steady ride to far side of Penzance, masked and sanitized. Bit strange up on route, we had expected more in way of Land Art and trimmings, we have got so used to all yellow bikes, spotty painted cafes, yarn bombing up in Yorkshire for a big cycle event, but there wasn’t much about yesterday. Sure Penzance will be good, they enjoy a good festival😁1 -
My parents used to live in Westward Ho! Wherenext, Dad used to get annoyed every time they built new houses, he said, ‘there are only two small roads in and out’ it’s getting too crowded. We are waiting til autumn, and hopefully it’s a little quieter, to go back for our walks. Hope your ice cream was a Hockings, the best. We live 6 miles from Appledore and haven’t been there for 20 years either. Mum and Dad lived there as well.

Arrived at the Swan in Grasmere for a few days R&R. Weather is just perfect. Going to sit out with a few glasses of something.

We had a great time this morning, lots of folks down at the start of the Tour in Penzance, but nothing like the usual mosh pits at the festivals down here thankfully. Weather was overcast, but stayed dry for us. Got a brilliant spot right on the start and in front of the stage, so got up close to the team presentations and the roll out. Took some nice photos as well, not enough data at the moment to post them on here. One of Alpecin Riders dropped his bottle and it rolled under fencing to by my feet, I went to give it him back, but he said no, keep it. So a nice little keepsake. I don’t think he missed it as he came in 10th😁

We are actually here to celebrate. Although Mrs C has been technically unemployed since Wednesday she is taking tomorrow as her day of retirement as that is when she would have had to go back to work. She says she going to start breakfast at the time she would normally go in
You can probably guess where I had my first day🙂😀

I officially finished work when we were staying on Beddgelert Campsite in the early 2000’s. Decided to take redundancy money and run. Turned out to be a very good decision. Hope you have a great time Corners👍

Some better weather up here today, hot in the sun this morning, but turned a little grey later, and now raining, though still warm.
We went along to the Dolphin Centre at Spey Bay today, had some lunch there and a short walk. Unfortunately no dolphins to be seen, but we did find lots of seals. Came back all along the coast on the little roads, that was interesting, one bridge was only just wide enough for the Touareg!
TG......yes, we are staying on the CCC site at Dingwall, been there once before, a couple of years back. We had a pitch backing onto the fence in the same row as the reception building, and diagonally opposite the facilities. Must have been an OK one for TV reception as I do not remember having a problem.
Dingwall is a nice wee town, but must keep OH out of the hardware/cookware shop ........too many tempting things!

DEBSC, Pity they didn't build a few more roads to go with the houses and holiday parks!

Nice one Corners. We'll be celebrating our 20th.year of retirement at the end of this month and I haven't missed work for 1 single day. We've been extremely fortunate in more ways than one that we've been able to self fund ourselves for these last 20 years but mostly we've been fortunate that we have survived to spend some of it. Long may it continue.
Hope you and Mrs.C enjoy the retirement as much as we have.
Glad you had a good day Ttda.
You souvenir hunter you.

Travelled down from Bideford area to Kingsbridge area today. The first part down to Okehampton was a stressful ride but at least the traffic was light. Then down to Exeter and around past Totnes to the CL.
Loads of traffic heading towards Cornwall and quite a bit leaving but not as much judging by the flow.
The mist/haar seems to be descending. We'll be away before the Tour of Britain passes the CL by tomorrow. If it had been first or last thing we may have stayed and waved a big "HI TO ABM FROM THE WNs" at the cameras, obviously not stepping into the middle of the road to do so!

Happy retirement to Mrs C. We took early retirement in the year 2000 and have never missed work at all. Like WN we feel very fortunate that we have been able to fund our long and happy retirement. It is the best job I have ever had!

We have had a lovely afternoon out with eldest son, DIL and 2 grandsons. We went to The Orchard Tea Gardens in Grantchester for tea and cake. It is a big orchard with old fashioned deck chairs and little tables. Such a lovely relaxing place. We had a nice walk by the river and watched the paddle boarders and swimmers all enjoying the lovely warm sunshine.
The day has been marred since as we have received a phone call to let us know that a very dear friend of ours (age 82) had a bad fall yesterday and is in the acute assessment ward of our local hospital. It doesnt sound good. Even her daughter is not allowed to visit

Good start for the tour TDA I managed to watch about a third of the race and remembered some of the villages that we have been through many years ago and a good finish to the race.
We have had very warm weather here upto 32C late afternoon, did have a ride out to have coffee and cake next to a small lake very few folk about and a nice shady spot to sit and enjoy our morning break, had our main meal early has OH off for blood test tomorrow morning early as he decided this week rather than last week as doctors appointment on Friday 10th so whilst he is out I will just finish off the small iris bed for trimming and weeding before it gets to hot as 33C tomorrow and 34C Tuesday then some heavy storms on the way on Wednesday but the garden needs it.
Enjoy your break Cornersteady.

WN. We must have been on the same route out as you, it seemed to take an age to reach Okehampton. We didn't go to Hartland Abbey as planned, probably a good idea as it took us twice as long to reach home. Very busy roads.
Such lovely warm weather, a week ago we thought about lighting the fire!
Sounds v warm in France RedKite.
Millie sorry you had bad news after such a nice day out, isn't that sometimes the way.
Good to hear Mrs Corners will now be free to enjoy retirement. Our own retirement improved when we were both finally free together.
Perhaps you were on TV TDA, retrieving the bottle?!
We have had a lovely time in Devon. This was the sign at the local pub..if anyone wants a free stop over in the village of Welcombe, an apt name.

We have had a fabulous day on Dartmoor. 41 Setters, 5 Spaniels, 3 Retrievers along with a Doberman, a Husky and a Daschund (yes really!) turned up for the Rescue Walk. Most were happy with the shorter version, but about 20 braved the full 5 miles in perfect conditions, cool, dry and comfortable.
No final figure yet, but we'll over £1000 will have been raised for a small charity which, along with others, has struggled over the past 18 months.
Some pictures to give you a taste of the atmosphere.

After the walk, we all head back to Spitchwick Manor in Poundsgate for a full on Devon Cream tea (but they do get the scone arrangement the wrong way round!
) followed by a group photo (there were more but these were all I could fit in on my phone!) and then it's "unleash the hounds" time and it's a magical sight to see them all racing around the grounds playing and, for some, diving into the lake to cool off!Just to make Ralph's day, he found himself an admittedly less than willing girlfriend - and she's not a Setter!

You certainly had what looks like grand day out M, and super pictures too.
Didn't spot you at the start, tda, but it was only the highlights that I saw, perhaps others who were watching the roll out did. Nice souvenir of your day though.
Good to hear that those travelling got to their destinations safely, albeit slower than anticipated.
Sorry to hear of your friend's fall, Millie. Hope that bit isn't as bad as it appears.
Congratulations to Mrs C on her retirement, I'm sure that she might miss going into on some very rare occasions, at least in the early months. Lovely spot for your stay, Corners, and the Lakes may a little less busy after this weekend too.
I will have been retired 20 yrs this December, and can honestly say that I was glad to be able to retire early. We went off for our winter caravan trip just a couple of days after finishing and have continued in that vein ever since.

Great photos Moulesy and glad you had a good day and raised a good sum of money, as an ex spaniel owner can spot them anywhere.
OH back from blood test now having breakfast as not eaten since 4pm yesterday and he said was the first one in, whilst I finished the iris bed off and a bit more weeding before it gets to hot. Washing the next chore.
I have a french garden magazine and this month under whats on is a garden plant sale not to far from us at end of the month so might go to that, nearly two years since we went to the last one.

I hope I’m not taking this discussion off track but reading of retirement and first day freedom plans made me smile. OH had already been retired a few years when my turn came. Big plans, three whole non interrupted and restful weeks at Moreton in Marsh site. Well it was 2012, the summer of rain, we moved pitch 3 times, complete with full awning, due to flooding, everything in awning soaked. Then the rain eased... and I got a severe stomach bug! We had to return home early. Best laid plans and all that. It did get a bit better after that. Happy retirement everyone.

Retirement? What's that?
I retired from "paid work" on Christmas Eve 2010. I had such plans to be a proper "housewife" and keep on top of dusting and ironing etc. But, I'm still waiting for that to kick in. Farm paperwork and admin has increased over the years, and I'm glad I don't have to fit it in on my days off. But sometimes it starts to feel as if it's getting me down - so I have announced that I will be retiring (properly!) when I'm 80 - a few years to go. But I don't think anyone was listening.
My husband of course will never retire. And I know I couldn't not be involved, I need to know and be a part of it all.

I'm not sure if you can read the text on this photo taken from our local paper, but if you're in the area on Wednesday or Thursday it will be a Grand Day Out.

And hot sun is forecast for Wednesday!

We have made the most of our retirement, travelling "over there" being chauffeured by different forms of transport, but mostly in the Uk with both motor caravans and caravans,
Having lost so many friend's and work colleagues since we retired from full time work in 1994.
The majority were full of plans for their retirement ,but did not carry them into their retirement, and one or more of the partners left this world
So If I can say to those nearing retirement or looking to later retirements ,if you make plans just do it. ,do not think it will be a decision for later
We now have made plans and booked sites to the end of September next year, and have every intention of keeping those bookings(with maybe a tweak here and there)roll on the October bookings release day ,even if 2022 may be our last year of so many nights away in What ever LV we may have by then

Come on Goldie you know you love it, well maybe not so the paperwork, you had better start training them up on that one. Who would make all those cakes and the food for the workers. Also we love reading about the goings on at the farm.

Have a good day on Wednesday Goldie and did managed to expand it enough to read and you have the same name as my mother had only her second name was Nellie she had a lot of fun at school as it rhymed with jelly ha ha.
We have moved our bookings 4 times now so hope all will be ok for end April into May for our visit to Cornwall 2022.
Just looking at the weather here for next week and it looks a bit grim rain all week so looks like our break away may not happen but we will be going to a site we use near Loches for about 8/9 nights in October and will have a few nights on the way up and back.

I have written a manual (which I ought to be updating) - it was one the things I did in my former working life. Lots of screen shots and arrows etc.
Maybe I should do one on how to cope with an ancient old Aga that decides to go slow when I particularly want it on top form (cooking dinners for 6, plus baking cakes that are suitable to pack in boxes for the Show Team). As an emergency backup we bought a Microwave a couple of months ago - so at least I am able to thaw a previous meal from the freezer.
Mr President and I will be fed and watered at the Show from Tuesday night to Thursday night, so no worry for us. Then we are having a short (one night) break in a wonderful hotel, with Afternoon Tea in another hotel - courtesy of vouchers we were given last year for our Golden Wedding.
