Talking about large outfits at Exeter racecourse site TDA 1 of our friends has had friends of theirs arrive back in UK this week from Spain so came via Santander ferry have got an older Concorde and have bought their Fendt caravan back from Spain where it had been for a few years on a seasonal pitch and that is 9m long so I bet that was interesting to see on the ferry. A long time since I have walked around the racecourse and as you say good for wildlife.

Had a thunderstorm in the night and some rain 3.1mm but need a lot more and more storms this afternoon and tomorrow then hot again for 3 days 30/31C then cooling down again and the forecast is not good for the next 10 days a lot of rain, such a strange year for weather here very unstable.

Enjoy your breaks folks and TG now you have arrived here.

Good to hear of everyone's trips away. It sounds as though all is going well. So glad you got to France eventually TG. Have a wonderful time. Nothing much happening here. We have had a workman doing some running repairs to the woodwork on our conservatory (it is not UPVC) so hopefully we are all weather-tight for the winter. Still no sun here. Take care everyone.

Woke up to sunshine and blue skies, haven't seen the sun for awhile! Perfect for your onward trip TDA hope the "tour of B" gets off to a good start. We are moving on to the N Devon coast today.

We had a phone call from our friend in Germany his family are with their van in Bavaria. I wonder where you'll get to TG, have a good time!

I'm sitting in the Waitrose car park in Holsworthy just now, sent OH in, we forgot to bring enough milk with us. Hope he finds the bakery section too. wink

    Brue

Speaking of Waitrose, we had an email from them a couple of days ago saying that from any online orders place after 9th September will have a £3 delivery charge added. Not sure its universal across the country but I think it will be on the way for all branches. They were one of the few that weren't making a charge.

A gorgeous day today  (just right for anyone returning to school! wink).

For us, a slight change from a favourite walk and a return to a beach we haven’t visited for some years. smile

Usually, we will park at the NT car park at Carnewas  and do a circular walk past Bedruthan Steps down to Porthmeor Cove, where if you're very unlucky and it's busy you might see as many as half a dozen other folk, stop for lunch and then back up and down the very steep climbs to the car park.

Today we decided to park just further on at the smaller NT car park at Parkend and carry on from Porthmeor to the lovely, but much busier dog friendly beach at Porthcothan Bay. Fabulous views up the coast to the lighthouse on Trevose Head, loads of space for Ralph to have a romp on the beach and then a picnic lunch back on the clifftops overlooking the beach.

I'm always intrigued when we walk around this area by the field boundary walls which are built with this unusual herring bone pattern. Obviously very strong and have stood the test of time; I'm not sure if they're found anywhere else in the area.

Now back on site for a cuppa and a (proper) cream tea while the dogs are snoozing!

PS - thanks to Seaside Bill for his post the other day which reminded me about Porthcothan!  👍  🐕  🐕

Oh really Moulesy, don't rub it in! laughing

We are on our next CL, a bargain at £7 a night plus £1 for the dog...considering her size it should be 50p. wink Nice views to Lundy and the cricket playing family have just lost their ball in the hedge....!

DK I will await the news from Waitrose. The store in Holsworthy was even smaller than our local one. Holsworthy looks better than it used to, quite some time since we visited. Nice journey to the Atlantic coast, fresh air blowing in.

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

    Great photos moulesy.

We decided to treat ourselves to a day out today. We went to the newish Rushden Lakes shopping complex. It opened around 2018 (I think?). We have been promising ourselves to go for ages but it kept closing  (I can't think why 🤔). It is a really nice place to shop with lots of my favourite stores and even a department store - House of Fraser (now called Frasers). Also some good restaurants and a lovely walk round the lake. It is not an indoor centre which I preferred. Also as a bonus the sun came out this afternoon 😎

Glad to hear your trips are going well brue and TDA.

Hooray, the sun put in an appearance today. Typical that when it did we were in a tunnel of shade for about 5 miles on a bike ride.

Can't really complain as it did stay out long enough for when we finally finished our ride of about 20 miles. If I'd only known how good the bacon smelt at the cafe halfway around I would have taken a GF Panini to have some. Not fair.

Last day here tomorrow and then off to Kingsbridge area to set up before Tour of Britain comes through the place on Monday.

Probably go for a coastal walk tomorrow, maybe Westward Ho! ( don't forget the exclamation mark!)

Enjoy whatever you do this coming weekend.

A very dear friend of very long standing called in to see us this evening for a couple of hours on her way home to Southwell from Cambridge. It was so good to see her after more than 2 years. She rang us on the off chance. It was such a lovely surprise.

Grand photos, M, Is that Parkhead car park? We will be down near Wadebridge later in the month and Porthcothan Bay looks like a great place to take Flyte. Just as a coincidence we too had scones with clotted cream for our dessert tonight.

Yes, Park Head (I think Parkend is Forest of Dean! laughing). Another place where the honesty box has been replaced by a pay & display machine.

Porthcothan is a huge beach, just right for dogs beyond the first stretch where most folk seem to congregate. And two easy access points at either end, which is just as well as the tide was coming in fast and we'd have been cut off if we'd had to return to the car park end. surprised

Tomorrow is Dartmoor Setter Rescue walk day and, having been forecast wet windy weather at the start of the week, it now looks as if it will be fine, sunny with just a little breeze to keep the dogs cool. More than 50 planning to be there, a great way to raise money for one of the smaller charities which has struggled during the pandemic. 🐕  🐕

Got back from Outer Hebrides on Sunday, where my phone died!!  I just didn't realize how much I'd come to rely on it These days, I seem to do most things from the phone... emails, text, CT... almost everything.  New phone arrived this week, but it's took me around 2 days to set it up as I wanted - including the time I spent looking for the tiny sim card which I had managed to lose somewhere in the lounge.  Still afraid to take the new phone very far until a new screen protector and case have arrived.

In the meantime, I guess I need to look around for a competitive way of insuring the phone, at least until it eventually goes out of contract...

Our phones, and indeed all our IT stuff, are covered by our household policy. I think there maybe an upper limit for a single item, but it's way above what they cost. And we don't have to specify individual items. Covered the same way as watches, cameras, jewelry etc. (Under things taken out of the house).  We've never had to claim, but I'm confident of the good customer service. NFU Mutual.

We have moved further north, to the NE coast a few miles from Fraserburgh, to Gamrie Bay CL.  The site is very popular, full every night at present, a mix of caravans and MHs.  Easy access and hardstandings with water and waste on every pitch.  £17 per night at the moment.

Weather is not great, a bit grey and cool, though we did have some sun early on, and it is brightening up again a little now.

Went along to Fraserburgh today, via all the little coastal villages, some seriously steep and narrow roads up here!

Here till Wednesday, then we move west to Dingwall.

Had a 'Notice of Intended Prosecution' yesterday. Apparently I was flagged at 57 in the M27 roadwork restrictions. I was, to say the least, mortified having had a nice clean licence since I can't remember when. From the paperwork it would seem that they take no action up to 56 ( 10%+2mph being the trigger). The good news is I am eligible for a "Speed Awareness" course which keeps my licence pristine. I'd reformatted the dashcam so wasn't able to cross-check the incident. Irritating as I'm always so meticulous. With the current congestion through that part of the motorway, one tends to pace with the surrounding traffic.

Oh dear CY, there are so many speed cameras everywhere. frown

We were struggling on the Devon coast today, top speed nearly zilch as we found Devon miles to be more than they seem. We had to give up on one vertical challenge which linked into a footpath to the route back to our CL. Will never believe the short walk to the beach reviews again! Anyway we made it to Welcombe Mouth, where the rocky strata reaches out into the sea.

We are on our second night at our second site in France.

Very nice site on the Moselle river near Nancy. Cycle path just outside the site takes you miles along the river, we managed 12miles today in the 27c heat. Not up to our usual 20 miles yet but it has been awhile. Saw lots of blackberries ready for picking but no container with us. Going back tomorrow with container laughing

Site is fairly empty in a morning, then fills up again late afternoon. Lots of Dutch on site, a few French and today we had a couple of Scandinavian MHs come on, we are the only Brits.

Vaccination forms accepted without any issues, checking in is taking twice as long, due to the extra information required. Everything feels nice and safe, masks are worn by most and hand sanitizing is still being done.

Kj, are you staying on the C&CC site at Dingwall? Its a nice site, only downside is if you like to watch tv the signal can be a bit temperamental on some of the pitches.

Good to hear others are having a good time away.

Might have to do a bit of storm dodging next week, the forecast is not looking good here.

Great to hear things are going well Tammy. We were in two minds to take a Tunnel trip and cycle around parts of the Netherlands but decided that MiLs mental health couldn't cope with the worry. She has been paranoid about going abroad and after trips to Yorkshire and Northumbria recently has decided to include England as abroad.laughing We suspect that she'll manage to grace us with her presence when we toddle off to Norfolk in early October to a cottage booked specifically with her in mind.

We were actually discussing where to go abroad next year on our walk today so your early sortie will not be in vain.smile

Got up fairly early for us and parked in Westward Ho! free car park before most people were up and about. Had a lovely 6 mile walk taking in quiet inland country lanes, sunken paths and coastal path in quite beautiful weather.

Got back to W.Ho! and my goodness. The world had gone bananas. Glad to get out of the place which took some doing. Drove to Appledore as it has been over 25 years since we have been but once again the crowds were too much for us. We managed an ice cream and beat a retreat.

Enjoyed our 5 mights here at The Barton CL. Off tomorrow.

Ttda, no we won't be watching Tour of Britain. Hopefully we will have escaped the crowds and headed to somewhere like Bigbury to do a quiet coastal walk. I know you'll be watching so hope you enjoy the spectacle. It's far too long for me to sit still!laughing

We drove the Lands End bit of the Tour route this afternoon, spectacular scenery. It’s decided us to ride bikes to start tomorrow from here at Site, we will watch the team introductions, meet the riders and perhaps watch a bit on the big screen, then head back to a site to follow it on TV. We stopped off in Zennor, had lunch in MH, then walked to Zennor Head. Interesting weather, thick haze on Penzance side, but nice blue skies over tops closer to St Ives. A brisk wind though, riders will need to wrap up warm.
