"That is my last tour duty for a while as we are off to N.Ireland next weekend ..."
Millie - might I pick your brains about travel to N Ireland because I've seen an advert for what looks like a very interesting 5 nights city break to Belfast. But I can't find any details about testing requirements. Are there any? I know that it is part of the "common travel area" but I'm not sure if that exempts visitors from testing either before going or on return?
0 -
As far as we are aware moulesy there are no testing requirements. We both have proof of our vaccination status - both digital and paper. We will take lateral flow tests just before we travel just to be om the safe side but I dont think that is needed. Or son and family got out of NI and back in again after their trip to Staithes last week without any problems. Also some visitors to the Cathedral from Belfast a few weeks ago confirmed they had no problems either. We have our fingers firmly crossed 🤞. I will keep you posted after our journey over there next weekend.

Hope your trip to N I goes without hitch, millie, and that the eye OP is a success.
Sounds as if you've done too much again, in the garden, WN. Fingers crossed that you are up and about again tomorrow.
Not too long now before you've completed the self isolation, brue. Hopefully you and the rest of your family have avoided catching the infection.
Easy run across to Gainsborough to a newish CL that we've not used before. Site is fine, with a very posh washroom, but feel that it is rather overpriced for the facilities on offer.

PS. Moulesy I have just rechecked and we are advised to take a lateral flow test just before we travel and on day 2 and day 8 of our stay. I will ask our son if their results were checked on their return to NI. I hope this helps.

TDA, the carpet shampoo'er is a Bissell. I've had it for years but it still does the job fine. Not as big as the Vax so more emptying and filling of tanks. I fancy a Vax next time.
Very hot here today, managed to get the back deck stained before the sun got round there, not like it though so went and bought a different colour, will re-do it tomorrow. I got the side deck done this afternoon once the sun went off that one. Much easier as its still fairly new, just a clear oil and its looking good again.
Bike ride late afternoon once it had cooled a little, stopped on the way for an ice cream, nice but they were a bit stingy on the ice cream
bit pricey to for what we got.Still a long list of jobs to do but we are getting there, I'm glad we have a 5 night booking for a CL on the Moray coast for August, it will make us take a break. If it wasn't booked we would probably just keep going and end up to tired to go away at the end of August (as if 🤔😁😁)
Must phone the library, they have changed their system for ebooks and I can't get it on my tablet, I'm loathed to buy another new one as there is nothing wrong with the one I have. This is the 3rd time they have changed systems in just a few years.
Lovely photos brue.
Millie have a wonderful time in NI
WN, take it easy, remember you're a pensioner now

We've had a great weekend, our neighbours have been away camping 😁 not sure if they've had a good time or not, dad sounded a bit frazzled when he was unloading the equipment from the trailer, will wait till tomorrow to ask.

No we dont have relatives in MK. You might be thinking of Helen and Trevor who have a son living there. I love the JL in MK but am not keen on the drive there. We shall probably use the one in Cambridge as we can use the guided bus from St Ives. I am not a fan of shopping online.

Lovely sunny morning in North Yorkshire, off to Scarborough this morning to see if OHs buggy is as poorly as it sounds

Freezers should be stood for one hour if transported upright and four hours if transported on their side

JL at home in WGC is still open (it is theirs not on a lease)plus the apartments above bring in money to keep it going, their click and collect is always busy, the manager says the store is not big enough to cater for all the customers if click and collect not available

I understand what you mean about online shopping milliehull but we are doing it more and more now. Like Peterborough JLewis our store in York has also closed, although it was only a small branch, nothing like the size of Peterborough or Milton Keynes (we used to live near Bedford). We have found that sadly whenever we wanted to look at something in store it was never available to look at, we were told - ‘it is available online if you would like to order it’? JL seemed to have less and less in store to view so we don’t even try anymore hence the demise of what was a great store. Since Covid I think I have only been in a shop (of any sort) a handful of times anyway. Have a great time with the family in Northern Ireland, hope all goes well with the travels; we are seeing ours next weekend for our very belated Golden Wedding meal out.

The manager at our store said to keep shops stocked these days, like in the past is very expensive, hence the on line stock that will come direct from .a distribution centre which then means they do not need to have such large stocks it is a sign of how on line shops work , and is another reason High street stores are struggling

Hope you like the cardigan Millie. As we're not in an area which has larger shop like JL I do a lot of on line shopping but it's nice to actually see things, I send quite a few things back.
Nellie, just our daughter's partner has had Covid, thankfully, but as OH had spent days with him cooped up in bathroom renovation works we've been lucky. But OH did keep a mask on and this was regarded as a bit over the top at the time! All double jabbed except daughter who's due for a second.
Yesterday evening I decided to go out from our back garden and look at the cornfield which is next to a field behind our home. Whilst enjoying the view and the ripe wheat I turned round and caught my foot in a rabbit hole, fell flat on my face and twisted my foot in the process. So now I wish I hadn't left the garden. Very painful swollen foot! OH can do the cooking today I think......and I forgot to put paracetamol on the Waitrose order which arrives this morning!
Pesky rabbit holes....🐰🐰🐰

Heddlo, enjoy your belated Golden Wedding anniversary, congratulations! 🥂
My sister and BIL completely forgot theirs recently so I've just sent them a belated gift. They managed to have a family meal out after they remembered! We all blame the after effects of the last year.

Millie
Sorry, you are right I am getting you mixed up with H&T.
I tend to agree that shopping online for clothes is a bit hit and miss, probably why they get so many returns!!! I don't know if I am getting lazy or whether it was the pandemic but I tend to look online now as my first port of call. Our JL is only just over two miles away but I will often use their Click and Collect rather than go into the store. Had JL not invested so much money in Click and Collect in recent years I wonder if it may have gone the way same way as other department store groups? No one could have foretold COVID but I reckon that investment probably saved them.

Another cracking day in Stubbers, should be in Spain now heading for the Malaga region to stay in our daughters holiday cottage, glad she decided to stay in some ways, and we cxld our trip.
Heading for 41c in Malaga this coming weekend, just toooo! hot even for a holiday cottage, caravan would have been unbearable, and spending £2k on a round trip just too frazzle is not my idea of fun in the sun, did look at maybe doing October - November but return trip in December can be a bit dodgey in Northern Spain/France, so looks like jolly old Blighty until next March, but not complaining just soaking up the sun.

Waiting for dishwasher repair man to arrive, it is washing but i think heater is not working, 12 years old, so if repairs are going to be expensive will invest in a new one, you can get a replacement, next day delivery and installed/old one recycled for approx £350 with a 10 year guarantee.

Thanks, Millie - it will be interesting to hear from someone who's been. The tests themselves aren't a problem but just want to know exactly what is expected.
We've been to Southern Ireland many times, Mrs M has family there, but never to the north. Will also have to check out what the visiting arrangements are for indoor attractions like the Titanic experience.

At last the 10 days are up and our son and family can cross the yard and come in our house, and work together outside etc. He feels fine, but has still no sense of taste or smell.
There are no big shops near us, so for several years I’ve bought most of my clothes online. There’s an undercurrent of guilt, but I’ve managed to overcome it!
Yesterday was our 51st Wedding Anniversary, so I splashed out and bought some cod when we shopped in the morning. Maybe it was me and the way I cooked it, or maybe it was the cod, but it was an expensive disappointment. The strawberries and cream, and a glass or two of English Fizz made up for it.

I have just spoken to son in NI. They didnt have lateral flow test results or vaccinatiom status checked and they have checked with various friends who have travelled back from 'over here'and they havent been checkec either. You dont need a PCR test. NI is beautiful.

heddlo No I haven't been into our city centre more than 3 or 4 times in the past 18 months. If I want to shop (rarely) I go to a local retail park near us which has M&S, Next, TKMaxx and a few other stores. It is where I met up with our daughter yesterday. It is easier to park and is also free to park. I hope you enjoy your belated Golden Wedding celebrations.

Lovely sunny morning, repainted the back decking before the sun arrived there. Much happier with it today, looks like a new deck now.
Did a bit of touch up paint work on the covered deck, that's all looking good to.
Washing out and dried, good job to as we had a heavy rain shower half an hour ago.
I don't mind online shopping for something's but not keen on it for clothes or shoes. I like to feel the material etc. When we lived in Germany I used to run a ' catalogue' most of our clothes were bought from that at one point didn't bother me then.

WN, take it easy, remember you're a pensioner now
Thanks for that Tammy.
Pot, Kettle and Black spring to mind.Another morning digging and planting. We must be due to strike Oil soon. Beginning to resemble something but that's only one border area. Another 3 to go in the back. Had to make a trip to the refuse centre to deposit 3 old style black bin worth of stuff as our brown bins are full.
Had to get a pest controller in as we have an invasion of Wasps. Normally i don't mind taking care of them but this was a large nest and they were very active, plus we wanted to know if they had got into the attic. Anyway man in a funny suit came and dealt with them.
Just finished talking to someone in the village who has just celebrated Christmas with his children and grandchildren in his garden. Christmas Turkey and Pud and Mince Pies, even presents. First time they've all been together for 18 months.
Santa didn't turn up as I think he's been "Pinged".4 -
All this holiday talk 😭 am I jealous 🤐? Glad folk are having a good time.
Brue who's a silly person? More annoying and harder than isolation. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Goldie glad your family can now mix and match.
Online shopping hmmmmm not a fan especially clothes! That said I've just did a trip to B&Q and then Screwfix for a shed lock, very basic sort, the key to ours disappeared a few days ago, hasn't turned up 🤔. But OH RADAR key opened it. No joy at all. Quick online search on my return, found one almost identical immediately. Would have saved tangling ourselves in traffic, fire on A12 so plenty avoiding it in both directions.
Milliehull I loved the Peterborough John Lewis not that I was a regular but it was so big and had a good selection. I was shocked when our son said they were converting half into a cinema and worse when they announced its closure!
We got a John Lewis a few years back, possibly 5, as we were away when it opened. Whole new retail area built, I was bitterly disappointed that the building I thought was John Lewis and huge, it has their name on, turned out to be a cinema, food outlets and shops. The actual store is quite small, considerably smaller than our Debenhams was, a very basic bit of each department - but it did escape the closures. Click and collect is great but you have to pay for carparking.......... and its a good walk with anything heavy or light 😉! It certainly brings in different shoppers, but they must be very disappointed in the rest of what our city offers. For the county town we lack and always have so many decent big name shops and have very few if any now independent ones. Our M&S was reduced in size 20 or so years ago, no bedding towels etc, but it used to carry that and furniture at one time. Until online we were told to go to Lakeside 🤢. Only been twice, 2nd time was to return something with our daughter. Like shopping on another planet! No John Lewis there either, that was Bluewater , although I understand Westfield at Stratford has one.
Visited son and family Sunday, boy their lad grows, he's a cubba bubba make no mistake! He's getting really interesting and got to read him his bedtime story last night 🙂. Date for baptism now, he won't fit in our family's Victoian gown, granted he'll be 3 months older than previous generations were. Glad I won't be a Godparent, they'd better start upper body work-outs immediately 🤣🤣🤣. Nice day with no rain, we were to have met halfway for a picnic but forecast dreadful and a house came on the market, not the one for us but we did a 2nd viewing of the one from last week, even better this time. Fingers crossed 🤞 they've not got anywhere yet. The other one we like is still looking as well as hers fell through. Its a right game and can't say I care much for it. Probably why we haven't moved for 36 years..... I've got no interest in our house or garden here beyond the very basic it's all very unsettling.
KjellNN sounds like you'll need another holiday in a minute. Please don't forget the sponge recipe when you get an opportunity.

Wow😁Have we dropped onto an absolute gem of a CL Site. Arrived last night, only two of us here with acres of space, wonderful scenery, quiet location and brilliant for dark skies. Perfect so far 👍

Hope it stays the way you like it TDA, I've got my eye on a very basic CL in September a follow on from one with a nature reserve which sounds interesting.
Thanks for the commiserations B2, I can't believe I did it, hobbling around now as can only get one shoe on. (My fault for daring to venture off site.
)Hope the house searches come together, I don't think it's easy at the best of times. I epect your grandson is bringing lots of enjoyment!
We had massive thunderstorms this afternoon and torrential rain, strange weather, very warm too.
WN hope you can take a break from gardening after all your efforts!

Is it "D" day tomorrow Brue? It must be weird, having to self isolate as opposed to wanting to. Good luck with the gammy ankle.
Mrs WN nearly came a cropper today. Just started through the village en route to the tip, wound the windows half way down, only in second gear when a Pigeon flew into the bottom half of her window. Frightened us nearly to death.

Arrived at Exbridge Lakeside CAMC site yesterday. Spent today getting a new number plate made for the back of the caravan..... the other one appears to have fallen off somewhere during the journey!
Then the fresh water hose split at the end causing a leak. I thought, a simple solution would be to cut the end and refit the connector Unfortunately that doesn't always work with a 'flat hose' as the end of this hose was slightly thicker. If you cut off the thick bit at the end, the 'new end' is thinner and will not seal in the connector, So, in addition to a number plate, we went on the search for a new food grade hose to connect to the serviced pitch tap
Oh well! Ther weather turned out nice.... 🤣🤣🤣

Very fortunate, it could well have caused some nasty damage to OH, WN.
Good to hear that your CL is even better than expected, tda. Enjoy your stay down there. Hope it's not too hot for your visits to those gardens on your list.
Hope the ankle isn't too sore, brue, and you can enjoy your "freedom" tomorrow.
We had another fine day and it got up to 28 C again this afternoon. After a wander round the site of Gainsthorpe Medieval Village we had a couple of walks in Twigmoor Woods and Flyte enjoyed a cooling dip in one of the Gull Ponds. Thankfully it has cooled down again so the temperature should be comfortable for sleeping tonight.
1 -
So where is it then or are you keeping it to yourself?
0 -
Brue hope your ankle improves soon and soon out of isolation, WN my OH said he had a pigeon hit the front air vents on his old series 111 Landrover made a right old mess and our springer not impressed with bits coming through the air vent.
Glad folks are enjoying their breaks away and bakers2 hope you find a house soon.
We are off to friends for 6 days as we have both got birthdays mine tomorrow and OH's Thursday both 71, so off for a meal tomorrow with our friends then Thursday off to Brive via Bricodepot for new window shutters and another meal then back to DIY for OH from Friday to help fit the shutters and on Sunday we doing a boot sale we have only have 2 conatiners already priced our friends are clearing a lot from their loft so a big trailer is called for but what does not sell will go to Emmaus charity shop after as our friends do not want to put stuff back in loft good job they have a huge loft as we do not have anything in ours as very small so could be a busy day Sunday and OH and our friends wife do not do mornings and the boot sale will be open for sellers from 6.30am
0 -
Redkite happy birthday to you and your OH twins in a different way 🎂🍾🥂.
Good luck with the boot sale especially the early start. We've not done one for years, OH doesn't do mornings and never did, but our start was 8am. It takes a while to set it up and we had other sellers at our boot whilst we were unloading. Maybe the answer is to get the owls to set it up overnight and you do the early selling? There was a boot sale around here that didn't start until the afternoon - don't know if its still going and no use to you anyway 🤣
Heddlo enjoy your golden wedding anniversary celebrations and time with your family.
1 -
Not the best of starts for you David, Exebridge is nice but a bit out of the way for replacing things. Hope you have a good stay.
Happy Birthday to the RedKites this week! 🍷🍰
WN we're officially out of isolation midnight Weds. but will break out earlier as we have a timed collection to do for someone else. All tests have been negative so far. The pigeon incident must have been a shock! We have Mr & Mrs Dopey Pigeon nesting in a precarious position in a silver pear tree by our conservatory. We found a pigeon egg shell near the nest yesterday, so dopey pigeon junior has arrived....usually the nest falls apart before this stage. This is a regular occurance. We will now be on magpie duty to help things along! 🐦🐥
