Are you sure you didn't run over not just one black cat but a whole cattery Robsail? Visit The House of Mirrors and crack every one of them? Walk around a building site and under all of the ladders? On Friday the 13th???

    My sincere best wishes.

Much warmer and sunnier up here today round about 22c, so not super hot like the midlands and the south are suffering.

Just fine and dandy for working in the garden. Before that though I had to give some plants a good soaking as they were going limp.

Another 3 bushes trimmed, well one I've given it a right chop job, its in a corner behind other bushes so you can't see it now.

I got the shredder out and now have a lovely big black dustbin full of mulch. Better than taking it to the skip.

OH was busy doing the big hedges, one is now looking good on our side, he filled the trailer with the cuttings and took it to the skip. Tomorrow its the other side to do, its in our elderly neighbours garden but we always do it.

Then he only has the back tall hedge left  but we only do our side and the top as he can't get round anymore to do the other side.

We've managed to get a replacement skylight for the Omnivent that blew itself to bits while we were away last month. Not easy to get as lots of replacements  are out of stock everywhere. Not going for an Omnivent this time we've got an ordinary Heki  easier to clean and it won't scare the life out of me blowing up.

It will be fitted when it goes in for its hab service. Should have been today but the chap who does it is in isolation until next Monday.

Take care all those in the severe heat, drink plenty and find some shade.

Not suffering TG, loving it, just back from morning cycle and dip, currently a cool 20c, I have one of those low maintenance gardens so apart from cutting the grass not much to do this time of year except laze in the garden laughingwhen the autumn comes I have a gardener in, needs quite a bit of ladder work and i dont do ladders since i had my knees replaced.laughing

Hope you have fewer problems with your knees, Rufs, than my nephew has !!   He's not been the same since his bad tempered horse rolled on him !!  The first replacement got him a voluntary discharge from the  Blues & Royals, since he was no longer deemed fit to ride !  At least he was in " Every day "  kit  or he would still be in there tapping away getting the dents out of his cuirasse  surprised

Weather here is glorious again 27 degrees already it got to 32 yesterday down here. Had a good day yesterday visited the Haynes Motor museum which was excellent we had been before but it was about 15 years ago so good to go again. Lots of interesting cars and motorbikes a really good collection they have we spent around 4 hours there and it was nice to be inside in the cool away from the heat outside. After that we went to Shaftesbury as we wanted to see the famous Gold hill it was worth the drive the view from the top was great I went a walk down to the bottom and back up but SWMBO done the sensible thing and waited at the top. Day was rounded off with a BBQ at our van joined by sister and family sat outside until quite late on and it was still t shirt weather. Not sure what plan is yet today.

TG - Glad you had a nice trip and got back ok.

Nellie - Glad you got away ok. We came down the M6 last week and it was surprising quiet

Well, we were all packed to go yesterday but now unpacking to stay today...Covid has struck the family and we have to self isolate....lots of decisions all taken during a sleepless night!

Good to hear you are enjoying your stay Francis. Is the Fleet Air Arm Museum open? That would be another good place to visit, maybe you've done that previously? It might even be cool inside there, wonderful weather for everyone on holiday.

PS The cat is happy, no bags to unpack and a pleasant day under the shade of a hedge rather than the cattery! 😺

Sorry to hear about your cancelled trip.

I believe the fleet air museum is open we have been there about 15 years ago and may go again if we can fit it in

Oh dear brue, sorry to hear your news. Sounds like your village is having it tough. We are still being super careful, little in the way of socialising indoors going on, and in truth we are quite selective around who we meet. We have decided to keep touring, avoiding super busy places, but that’s out normal touring style anyway.

Decided on our next big home project yesterday. We have been let down umpteen times now trying to get a plumber to redo bathroom shower cubicle, so have modified our plans and decided to do it ourselves. Work to commence August, and on the plus side, it might possibly save us a few thousand pounds. After 30 plus years of restoring our old house, we had reached the stage where we preferred to get someone in, but after a year of being promised this and that, we have had enough.

Thanks all, just very glad it wasn't a big trip or one where we had packed lots of stuff, future trips are short, fairly local and on CLs so I'm glad we've done the special ones earlier on. Still miffed though!

Take care with your family get together Rufs.

Our dilemma is due to OH volunteeering to renovate daughter's bathroom. Now the pair of them, daughter and partner are confined to home without much in the way of facilities! frown

Sorry about your trip and hope family all OK brue.

My thoughts are with you Rufs and as brue said take care.

Golie hope son is ok and as you are busy as well.

Sorry to hear about your son robsail and hope for some improvement in his health.

Very hot here upto 35C today and tomorrow and Thursday 37C phew, and we had to go shopping am get back before post as parcel coming and it did 5 minutes after we got back, OH needed fuel for his car and then fuel for ride on mower and lawnmower as we are  moving things around a bit outside so grass mowing with tractor and me with my little electric one have already done part of it as it is quieter as we have restrictions in the village as to when you can do mowing, strimming etc 9am to 12 noon, 12noon to 2pm lunchtime and  2pm upto 7pm in the evening, normally at this time of year the grass is dry and brown but with all the rain everywhere is lush we much prefer green to brown.

We did notice the other day that the river Lot is very churned up and a chocolate caramel colour so there has been a lot of rain near its source,  very surprised to folks out on pedalos as the flow was very fast. Take care folks in this heat.

Oh brue.  I am so sorry you have had to cancel your trip. I hope your daughter and her partner are not too ill and recover quickly.

I hope all goes well with your MIL's funeral Rufs. Take care.

I was on duty at the cathedral this morning. It is now a personal decision as whether masks are worn or not. I decided to wear my mask as I believe that we still need to take great care.  It was about half and half with visitors wearing masks.  It is also voluntary as to whether you check in or not but we do still ask people to sanitise their hands and follow social distancing where possible. We have the 'Walking on the Moon' exhibition in the cathedral at the moment which has generated quite a lot if interest. It is the anniversary of the Moon Landing today.

Brue so disappointing to have to unpack without going anywhere. Fingers crossed you and your OH avoid it and that your daughter and partner are not badly affected. Such a shame about limited bathroom facilities for them too.

Our Tesco delivery just arrived 1st question she asked is are we isolating or have we been abroad and awaiting PCR tests? Had deliveries to 2 so far today who have causally mentioned the children are isolating! So she said whole house then? Well yes. You can amend your order until almost midnight the night before, 2339 I think mine said but they hadn't added to the delivery notes 😤🤐. Lots of cases in the city again she said so back to wiping everything down before storing.

Wedding invitation arrived for niece's delayed wedding, in 4 weeks. Much reduced numbers apparently but we'll still celebrate well. 🍾

We will,  in fact I am, still mask wear our tesco delivery lady did too.

Milliehull one good thing about the cathedral is its large and airy and rarely warm to hot 😉. But I still think its sensible to be cautious. When does the exhibition finish? I'd love to see it but we seem to be on mad rush visits and barely catch sight of the family at the moment. Oh how I wish we still had the motorhome! It will be replaced but I need lots of money in the bank at the moment. Keep contemplating cottage or b&b but haven't done anything about it yet. No idea why 🤣🤣. Seems like hard work too when the van was always battle ready.

Far too hot here, viewing tomorrow if grass isn't cut tough luck. I'll whizz the vac over when it's cooler later and I see the dog managed to find somewhere damp and muddy to leave a trail in the conservatory!

I'm off in a bit to meet a friend for a cuppa and catch up, masks at the ready. I'd like to cancel because of the heat and viewing but it's been a year since we've met.

Stay safe folks and above all stay cool.

first saw ice cream being sold like this in Spain many years ago, then it was quite popular around Sandbanks/Bournemouth area, and now we have got are very own at LOS, not much custom as beach very quite despite it being the most gorgous day.

Pooch had a bath today, he loves the sea and the salt water seems to love his skin, but his coat does mat up very quickly and gets that sticky feeling so bath and shower ready for doggie day care tomorrow.

Tks to all for comments re MIL funeral, all close family have done lateral flow tests today and all are negative, so that is a reasonably good start. 4hrs of driving tomorrow, mostly motorway with a little bit of M25 but all seems to have been good today, so fingers crossed.

Rufus I overlooked your MIL's funeral, sorry, I sincerely hope it all goes well.

Good catch up with friend, we sat indoors it was sooo hot, 31c the car said and didn't change on the 4 Mile journey. Just as well as we had a terrific storm and heavy rain. So heavy we were allowed to stay in the tearooms for 20 minutes after closing time so we could dash to the car! Car said 25c so had cooled things a bit but it's getting warmer and humid again. Fingers crossed for a cooler night. We are not included in the extreme weather warning area so heaven help those who are.

Set off in a very hot car, as said 31c, couldn't believe my eyes as got near the park, 300 yeards or so from our house, woman dressed in skimpy summer dress and flip flops with cocker spaniel on a lead leaving the park poor dog trying to make her walk faster 😤🤐😤🤐. Would she have appreciated wearing a fur jacket and walking barefoot on the black tarmac pavement and road??

Very excited to find tadpoles in our pond at lunchtime, not seen any frogs for ages or frogspawn so delighted. They have so far survive the common and crested newts.

B2. We've had a job keeping our pond water cool, sadly lost a fish that was already weak.

Golf ball sized hail in Essex?! We could do with some to keep drinks cool.

Have stocked up with lateral flow test kits, life is so exciting...

Daughter is disappointed, she has won an art prize in an exhibition and now can't collect it. We're waiting to hear which prize, will it be £800 or £8? A friend has volunteered to go on the opening night.

    Flax field coming up. smile

Brue our pond is 4 feet deep in the middle, very few fish in it these days. The field of flax looks beautiful. Fingers crossed your daughter gets the 800 prize.

No hail in Writtle where we had our meet, very heavy rain gutters overflowing  as they couldn't cope. Plenty of thunder and possible 2 or 3 storms going on at once judging by the thunder. Local flooding, where the rain couldn't get away on the drive home. Had some rain at home, but not as much, local news said hailstones in Basildon with home filmed video but hailstones didn't appear as big as golf balls. That's a good 25 minute car ride away.

Delighted to see the moon exhibition at Peterborough cathedral featured on the local news too. There's even a recreation of 36 metres of the moon surface. Looks amazing. 52byears ago today - who stole those years?

Another hot day into the 30s today with hardly a cloud in sight.

Up and out early with OHs twin to walk the middle section of the Malvern Hills. It worked out fine as we got back to the car at midday. Had a session on the way back picking cherries and strawberries (raspberries were decimated at weekend) so we had some of the best ones we've eaten in a very long time. Lazing by the caravan for rest of day.

Sorry to hear of your woes Brue. Hope you steer clear of the dreaded thing.

Bakers2 I agree about the poor dog on hot pavements. Some owners dont seem to have any idea how to look after their dogs sadly. I read today that Tesco stores are going to patrol their car parks to make sure that no dogs are left in cars and if they find any they will contact RSPCA. Good for them. I hope other shops follow suit.

The Moon Floor exhibition is open until the end of October so plenty of time. I hope your house hunting proves successful soon.

Milliehull thanks for the info. Hopefully we'll get there I'll try for a Tuesday 😀.

Not heard that about Tesco, good idea but RSPCA got a bad reputation here at the moment as folk say they report and are told no follow up due to pandemic and funds - that's only heresay though..

Thanks for good wishes on house hunting it's not a particularly enjoyable experience. I think we've not chosen the best time market wise but I'm sure it will work out. The house we have an offer on should be due for exchange of contracts any time now but the vendor lost hers. Fallen for another but need ours to sell. Very odd market here, usually snapped up before hitting the market but sold/available signs alternate on several of our roads so I know its not just us. That'll teach me to be complacent. My mantra is - if it's meant to be it will be. Not so clear cut in the wee small hours. At least we have no job or school pressures.

Viewing this morning so got to be out at 10 for a couple of hours must find some shade! It's already 22 in the shade. Stay cool and safe folks

B2 all the animal charities have got excellent hot weather dog care advice on line. The advice in hot weather is to take dogs out early and late and try touching the ground, if it's too hot for your hand it's too hot for your dog.

Hope the house viewing goes well!

ABM now we are ensconced at home, I feel lockdown has never ended! PCR tests show positive for daughter's partner and negative for her. I've got a sore throat but think it's from the hay dust. We'll carry on with the lateral flow tests.

Hope Goldie and family have got through their Covid isolation OK.

Extremely warm again, another dose of 30C +. Managed to sleep last night, all the loading and unloading of the van and changes to plan was quite tiring.

Brue I agree about animal charity online advice. Folk I've heard grope are exactly what takethedogalong mentions about being called to animals in distress. Very sad . Not heard it about hot cars though.

Last night and again this this morning I was out hand testing the pavement, not our block paving but the tarmac before walking the dog, despite travelling by car and straight into the woods 🤣.

We are now sitting in the shade of a beautiful park whilst our house is viewed. Very pleasant but the dog still wants the ball thrown, which isn't happening and she's very vocal and loud!

Hope your sore throat is the haymaking dust 🤞

We had a lovely day out today. The morning was a bit cooler than yesterday, which was a scorcher in the afternoon, and we had an hour's walk from the site, much of it through a wood. We then met up with tda, her OH and dog for a splendid plated picnic lunch by their M/H at Renishaw Hall. Lots of laughs and pleasant chat before we strolled around the Hall's beautiful gardens, and finished off with coffee and chocolate biscuits, again by the M/H. It was great to meet up with them again, and hopefully it won't be too long before another meeting.

Sorry to hear of other's misfortunes, and that you can't get away yet, brue. Hope you soon get an offer on your property B2, and you can get on with the house move. Early morning walks are definitively the thing at the moment, WN, and you are doing well getting OH up and out at the crack of dawn, or what must feel like it to her.wink Only one more section of the Malverns to do, did you manage that?
