Hope Dora is OK B2, our visiting dog, a robust terrier often has to have antibiotics for his eyes. No known cause just prone to this problem.

Hope you get another look at Stratford Francis, wondering if less visitors from overseas have cleared some visiting space? It's nice to stroll past the theatre to the church and also take the little hand operated ferry to Bridgetown green. If you get time. smile

Think you are right Brue we went there yesterday expecting it to be busy and it wasn’t we had no bother getting a space and on the open top bus tour there was only us and a handful of other passengers. It may well get busier as the month goes on

Sitting in the hairdressers waiting on the colour. Been an hour and a half putting it in 😱. Hope I like the results!

As I suspected Dora appears to have an allergy. Antibiotic drops this time, much easier to administer. Suggested saline eye drops after a walk and antihistamine pill every other day especially when the pollen is high. Very thorough check before diagnosis. Hopefully she'll grow out of it as her body creates her own antibodies. She does adore running through the longer grass and which our local estate have managed really well this year, fabulous selection of wildflowers some I've not seen for years. Yesterday despite much training about not going into wheat and barley fields she did  . The field margins were pretty too with grasses and wildflowers.

Called in the small local Boots chemist near the hairdresser to buy supplies. Huge bottle, size I have at home 250ml, of saline solution so didn't buy. Asked for antihistamine was shown an large array of 'varieties' made the elementary mistake of saying they're for the dog 😱. Told I couldn't buy them they're not licensed to sell for animal. Said it was the vet who said to buy at the pharmacy 🤣. No sale.

I'll go to our independent chemist after the hairdressers, just out of the way from today's errands. But I'll support them, I always have - moment of madness today! But I won't mention the body which will be using the meds 🤣..mind you  knowing them they'll be checking they are compatible with our meds so may have too......

Rain did stop soon after we started our walk, really humid now. Can't decide which I prefer.......

Our static is at Stratford and we walk in to town a lot when we are there. Yes it is a little quieter this year without overseas visitors, but still very busy some days. The river ferry isn't operating this year, due to covid, maybe after the 19th? Can I suggest parking at the Rec grounds when you return Francis, it's a nice walk across the park over the bridge and in to town from there. Try a coffee and croissant at Honey Blue, just off Sheep St, or something at the Fourties, also Sheep St.

    Telephone day today.

"Press 1 for This, Press 2 for That, Press 3 To find out how much we value your custom (but not enough to employ someone to answer the ruddy phone), Press 4 to Have a good rant etc..."

"You are number 18 in the queue and have 18 minutes to wait....you are 10 in the queue and have 10 minutes to wait...you are 7 in the queue and have 14 minutes to wait..WHAT?..." "Sorry, due to unforseen circumstances we have had to close the booking office"  This was for a blood test!

Thankfully, eventually, blood test arranged, gas service arranged, car recall appointment made, window installer appointment made for slight repair, BT contacted and sorted. And breathe.

Caravan in for service first thing. Will be a day or two. Going away at the weekend so fingers crossed.

Hope everyone had as good a day as me.😤😁😁😁

Thanks for the recommendations about Stratford we are hoping to get back before the end of this week. Went to Coventry transport museum today what a great place we spent most of the day there lots of great cars and a good exhibition about the blitz highly recommended to anyone who is in the area well worth the money and a good car park near by. Back at the van now cooking pizza on the Cadac actually turned in to a nice evening weather wise

Hope that the new medication sorted out Dora's problem, B2.

Fingers crossed that the service on the van goes without a hitch, WN.

Managed to complete the online paperwork for the renewal of my driving license yesterday, and have posted off the cut up old one. Sure I won't get the replacement back before we head off in the van, but did take a photo copy of the old one and retained the renewal letter just in case I should need it.

Has been dry for most of the day but we did have a short but very heavy downpour around 4:00 this afternoon.

Spent a half decent day checking over more Steam Rallies today { smile well I would wouldn't I laughing}  then visited a couple of very good slightly younger friends ( Best man back in '67 ) for a good old chinwag and now just a short time on here 'fore  bed calls bracing myself for a morning visit to Elderly Sister. Thats something I am NOT looking forward to, T'owd girl had aged Alfie cat to the vets three (3 ) times over the previous fortnight. As others have said, Bills from the vets really cause the wallet / purse to cringe. Sadly the old fellow didn't make it so they phoned her very early on the Sunday morning to pass on the bad news Not that she could get there and was not willing to wake any family to give her a lift. So eventually got there, terrible deed was done, and home she came very sad but cat less.  Three or so days later getting over it nicely and up pops an envelope from Surgery with a card with Deepest Sympathy  etc on it.  Doubtless somewhere in the account it will be found -- just one more unaccountable line ending in a few more quid GRRR yell  RRRR yell  !

ABM so sorry to hear about your Aged Sister's cat. So sad for her to lose a much loved companion. We too received a card from our vet when each of our cats died during the past year.

I hope both Dora and Flyte soon make a good tecovery.

We had a torrential downpour yesterday morning so watched all the intrepid walkers setting off and then decided it was the day for a nice lunch in the Cod and Lobster and very good it was too. I would recommend it to anyone in this area. Afterwards we had a wander round the art gallery and local arts and craft shops and then exlpored some of the many little alleyways and byways around here. We then watched the drenched intrepid walmers come back. There was a bit of a sea fret when we took the dog for a run on the beach in the evening and as she is dark grey we almost lost her in the fog🤣. We then watched the lifeboat go out on an exercise trip. The sea was surprisingly rough beyond the harbour walll.

Hang in there Millie, weather is due to improve after today, mind sea frets are a bit of a conundrum🤞
Bakers, I know all about the frustration of trying to get human medicines
prescribed for pets, been doing it for the last three years. Our dog has to take Cocodamol, and we use Chloramphenicol eye drops for him. Both carefully researched by our vets, both doing the job for our pooch. But it’s like the Spanish Inquisition when I go to buy them. I never ever mention the word “dog” now. Boots are the worse I have found. We simply do a regular route around various pharmacies, limping or blinking as required. We don’t always get the third degree, and never get annoyed with the staff, they are simply doing a job. But it’s like only being able to buy a certain number of paracetamol, it’s not beyond the wit of most folks to use more than one shop if you need more🤷‍♀️ I am sure there is some logic in there somewhere, but it’s eluded me so far.....

Same thoughts from me ABM, always sad to lose animal companions. cry

I woke in the early hours, phone discussion with our gp earlier on and appointment for hip x ray in the pipe line, must have disturbed my peaceful dreams!

Tried to find some replacement walking sandals earlier. I've had two sets of good Clark's ones but alas that design has finished. Not that I am walking miles but good support definitely helps. I found something that my suit but will see what arrives.

    Any suggestions welcome.

Hope the Staithes trip is going well Millie, forgot to say previously. We had a reply from a Devon CL so hopefully will visit for a short break next month. Far from the madding crowds I hope! I read that Kynance Cove on the Lizard had been closed to visitors, it was deemed full. I think this will happen more over the holidays.

A few years ago we were in Bridlington supermarket and a young man, late teens was buying 4 boxes of paracetamol for his Nan along but the assistant wouldn't let him. Told him to put it in our basket and gave it to him when we had paid. He didn't have any money as he had paid by card but it didn't matter to us. The assistant told me I couldn't do it. Told her I could do anything I wanted with MY tablets, even giving them away. As you said, the logic defeats one.

Anyway off in a minute to take Mrs WN for a foot appointment.

A dull damp day here and top temp 19C brr back to trousers and tee shirt, inside chores today fit new sink to kitchen cupboard all cleaned out ready for OH to do the fitting with my help carrying new sink from outbuilding inside as it is much heavier than the stainless steel one which is fitted at present trying a granite/quartz one instead just had so many problems with stainless steel sinks over here not made as good as the one we had for 25 years in Somerset.

The problem with that WN is it’s open to abuse. Painkiller addiction is a massive issue with a large part of society. Some dealers exploit it by getting painkillers & selling them on the black market & then foisting more powerful drugs-‘free-just to take the edge off’☹️

PS-I’ve been asked by younger folk to buy beer for them-I don’t do that either👍🏻

We're having trouble sourcing things for our daughters bathroom refit. Empty shelves at supply places, she's had to change her plans, find different tiles etc.

Good luck with carrying the  sink!

And apologies to Millie, I missed the post about the weather!

Weather much brighter today but it doesn't really matter as the most important thing is that we are with the family at long last. Son went for a long run this mornng up the hill along the top, through some woods and found a different route back down to the village down some steps and steep allyways 😳.

PS brue I find Hotter shoes and sandals give me the best support. Unfortunately they have closed our local shop so unless I want to go to Cambridge (not at the moment thank you) I will have to buy online.

Thanks Millie, I agree about Hotter but I couldn't find anything I liked this time round, some strange colours!

Sounds like the hill challenge in Staithes will leave some of you fitter at the end of the stay! So nice to see your family, the important thing as you say.

It's our youngest grandson's birthday soon and he's hoping for some binoculars...they have booked a lodge on Loch Ness and I know what he's hoping to see....it's nice to be young. smile🐍

I believe it was introduced to prevent overdoses, but as a piece of legislation, it’s somewhat badly thought out. As I said, anyone can just go into another shop and buy more. Or even go to a different check out🤷‍♀️ We often double up, I will go in and get what we need, then OH does same. Mum gets them prescribed by the 100’s. There’s more chance of her making a mistake and ODing than us. It’s not a logical to me. 🤔

The paracetamol conundrum 🤐. The GP prescribes them by the 100. My mum had a vast stockpile because they're free 🤐😤. So does an aunt who if she were brave enough would use them 😪

Human meds for animals. I think I may have interpreted the vet incorrectly 😱. I called the vets and spoke to reception re buying my items, which I did secure from our lovely local chemist and the pharmacist, him saying 'I didn't hear who's going to take them' 😀 I knew he'd question in case they were for OH, he really is a caring chap and almost as good as the original owners! Apparently the receptionist said they sell both items....... 🤣 Be interesting to compare prices just once.

I have foot problems brue. Vionic shoes are designed by podiatrist and offer good support, I live in their flip flops. Sadly despite the designers their sandals don't accommodate bunions the straps are in the wrong places for those I buy Josef Siebel, did secure a pair in the flesh but now buy same style online. I use them for walking 😉 no I mean both sorts. Again not made or designed here so style's are sometimes different. But I have vionic 3/4 inner soles in shoes and boots and know if I haven't used them. Recommended by podiatrist not cheap but alternating a couple of pairs extends the life. They have made so much difference I'm not not even considering bunion surgery 😱. Which I was seriously going to pay for 3 years ago! I'll second Ecco too but not easy to source here. Our Hotter shop has closed but again strange designs. Including flower patterned block heels on shoes 2 years ago surprised

ABM sorry to hear about your sister's cat never easy to loose 'family' members.

Shopping delivery due, conservatory to vac friends coming and plenty of debris on the floor there for some reason.

Cleaners been self isolating for 2 weeks so i've missed her and just had a phone call to arrange a viewing. Said Thursday afternoon as car service tomorrow! Cleaner agreed to come early and stay as long as needed on Thursday so should be ok. Housing market dead now. No hurry to sell for us as nothing to buy, one we have an offer on still stagnant as she can't find anything....... It'll happen when the time is right. Oh forgot to add much rain and warmer temperature means grass and weed growth. Why am I wasting time on here??

Lovely day today very warm and got sunny in the afternoon. We went across to Oxfordshire today spent some time in Thame this morning great market on today then we went for lunch to a lovely little pub the Six Bells Marlborough we have been to it a few times over the years and it never disappoints it’s a must see for midsomer  Murders fans as they use it often in the show the meals are excellent. The afternoon was spent in Oxford one of our favourite cities we done the tourist bus again been on it many times but still interesting the city was not as busy as usual certainly for this time of year it was quiet probably due to the lack of overseas visitors. Had a pint in the Turf Tavern although we had to sit inside as all the outside tables were taken still enjoyable though and another pub that’s been on tv a lot as they filmed both Morse and Lewis in there. Back at the van now sitting outside as it’s still nice here Plan tomorrow is a relaxing day

Brian - Sorry to hear about your sisters cat such a shame

Town this morning. Called in at the library as I was meeting OH there after her Chiropody appt. They get extra Brownie points as they saved me 2 books knowing I was away until this week. Ended up with 6 books and 2 maps.😀

Mrs WN felt old today. Talking to the Chiropdist and she mentioned her fathers favourite actors, Burt Lancaster and Errol Flynn. 30+ something young man hadn't heard of either.😱

3 hours in the garden, working not sunbathing, in afternoon. Sky man fitted a new box. Caravan ready for collection. Will go in the morning then start packing it for Saturday.😁

Glad to hear you are having a good time Francis. There's a M/Cycle museum in Solihull if you're interested. I only know because one of our neighbours is a bike nut.

Sorry to hear about Elderly Sis's cat Brian. She'll feel the loss.

Millie, looks like we have role reversal.😂 Cod and Lobster one of our stop off places.

Thanks for your shoe ideas B2. When I was at Clarks Village last week Clark's shoes had greatly reduced their retail area, Sketchers had plenty of the wrong sizes and Ecco shoes have closed their outlet shop. So it's handy to have a few reminders about other makes of footwear when looking on line.

Francis, sounds as though you are making the most of the Midlands (my old home area. smile)

Hope you enjoy your next trip away WN.

OH has spent the day tiling daughters bathroom, third choice of tiles as they were difficult to find. Several goes at trying to purchase a handbasin too.

Meanwhile we have been waiting six months for our kitchen floor! A rethink is needed....

It is silly legislation. If the Government were that concerned they would have made it pharmacist/ doctor only availability? Having said that larger quantities are easily available. A pharmacist will always supply more if you are prepared explain the reason. I have successfully purchased up to 100 tablets online. For those of us that need it on a regular basis the current over the counter limits are very annoying but as you say you just harvest the tablets in other ways!!! I had thought that paracetamol was no longer prescribed by doctors as it is a cheap over the counter drug?

Just how slow up this forum tonight? Crawls along at a speed a snail would be ashamed of! And it was down for maintenance again do they slow it down each time?

Our departed elderly neighbours inherited a paracetamol mountain from a deceased relative but still asked me to buy two packs a week...I presume they'll be leaving paracetamol in their wills!!

Thank you all for your most kind comments wrt Aged Sister and her late Alfie~cat.  Saw her today and I think that her children have got her welfare well in hand !

This afternoon she was due to have an hour or three mad whippet sitting whilst her eldest attended Hospital clinic about his {second } dodgy knee, then on Wednesday her daughter is taking her shopping for a couple of items that she, her daughter that is, reckons are time expired and will be left in the relevant shops waste after replacements are purchased !

Hm,  demented animals, great expenses of dubious merit,  and talking away quite well,  yes I do believe the kids have her welfare firmly in mind  !!  wink
