Last night we met up with four of our oldest friends. We haven't seen them since before all these troubles and missed out on celebrating Golden Weddings. So we sat outside by our almost complete Summerhouse (a work in progress) and raised a few glasses.

We were lucky with the weather as today it’s raining, so plans to finish painting the shed/summerhouse are on hold.

Wow!!! some hike, i did start out many years ago as a Munro Bagger but had to give in to my knees which have been replaced but not as successfully as i would have liked, but not complaining, as the consultant said "stick to the flat, or cycle" i do both laughing and now live in a bungalow and in an area with relatively few hills.

was out in the Solent early this morning, the new virgin cruise ship "Scarlet Lady" is now at anchor in the sound, but a bit hazy this morning so photo of little use.

Thanks! Wasn't meant to be such an excursion. Angletarn Pikes and Angle tarn was the objective but as it was such fantastic weather we just kept going on a bit more and a bit more... Once you're up on the Far eastern fells it's fairly easy to go quite far. This is half way up High Street.

Off to Wallington Gardens NT today. Drove down to it via the scenic route through Rothbury and onto to Cambo. Hundreds of cyclists out on a, presumably, charity cycle run as they came in all shapes and sizes. Good luck to every single one of them.

The gardens were something special. Magnificent. We were rather fortunate in having 2 hours of dry weather to appreciate them, especially the Walled Garden. A few photos. Are the first 2 Delphiniums? The local experts don't seem to know and no signal whilst there to download any apps. The flowers on these 2 were quite small but I was able to get close to them.

Had a light lunch and bought some proper food on our return to cottage.

I was side swiped Nellie, and not for the first time. Shows I don't get any more female savvy as I get older. We thought about about Gibside but it didn't fit in with the timetable we had. Like you, we'll have to find a CL at some point nearby.

Good luck with the trip away on Tuesday and fingers crossed for all clear on Flyte on Monday.

Last night of this trip frown home tomorrow.

We've had a good time and been fortunate so far with the weather, that may change tomorrow.

We don't do costings of trips or how much fuel we have used but  we have been on 8 sites. CLS x 3, CCC x 4, CAMC 1. Only 2 of these I wouldn't rush back to, nothing wrong with the sites they were fine but 1 was near a busy noisy road the other was a lovely site we just didn't take to the area.

The CLs were great though 1 has had more that 5 units on all the 5 nights we have been here, 7 again tonight.

Caravan not being used again until August but I need to sort out a few trips in the MH. If we do get away to France come September I don't want any nasty surprises through lack of use.

    WN nice flowers.

Wallington Walled Garden is magnificent, definitely in our top three. Such a lovely interestingly layout. Are those first two flowers inside the Hothouse WN, they do look quite exotic, not Delphinium like at all🤔

We had a good ride home. Left cottage at 10.20am after thanking owner for such a lovely stay. Decided to avoid Newcastle area, so did the A68 route from Kelso, right through to Corbridge, first break for lunch, then onto Darlington, picked A1, had a break at Scotch Corner (horribly busy, but needs must😱), then all way back on A1 without a single hitch thankfully. Standing traffic going other way though at Darrington, looked like a 5-6 car shunt, no one injured, but plenty of car damage, police sorting everything out. Tailback was miles long sadly going North. Home, unloaded, had an hour in garden as no clothes to wash until OH arrives home tomorrow with MH. He is on a very nice looking CL just South of Barnard Castle. Think he booked it via new CL App.

Corners.....👏👏👏 Thats some walk, beautiful scenery.

Best wishes to everyone else out and about, hope your trips go well.😁

In case everyone is thinking I did even remotely well, I should point out we were overtaken on the path to the hause by two mountain bikers actually carrying their bikes!

Great walk, CS, puts my own local wanders in the shade, and grand photos too. You certainly wouldn't be doing the same walk today, with very low clouds and rain.

One of my solo evening rides got very hairy this week. oH had looked up a route for me, one he was going to incorporate into a longer ride. Horrendous, deep ruts so I couldn’t pedal, rough stones and very long grass, and all on a steep half mile downhill. I got down without mishap, but no way was I returning uphill. Went round longer route, another nine miles😱 Needlesstosay, OH didn’t use that bit of route on his ride.😂

Have decided to abandon the first week of the trip, and cancelled the CL so won't be looking for That Tree!! Intend heading straight to the Peak District a week on Tuesday, after seeing the get on Monday.

Have booked the first 12 CLs for our Autumn trip, the final ones can be done much nearer the time.

I am pleased to hear that so many of you are having/have had good trips away. Some of you have had had much better weather than we have had here.  Until Friday it has been chilly and damp. Much better the past couple of days though and none of the forecast thundery showers today.  It has been very humid but the sun came out this afternoon and it has been very pleasant.  I have had to water some of the plants this evening (while OH watched the football).

WN you seem to be visiting some our our favourite haunts.  OH was born in Newcastle and then lived in Darlington until he went to university in Leeds (he thought we was in the deep south therelaughing) He spent most of the weekends and school holidays cycling round the Dales with his mates staying in various Youth Hostels. Richmond is one of our favourite towns. Reeth in Swaledale is another favourite if you are ever that way again. FIL had relatives that lived in that area.

We have to face the A1 on Friday and I am not looking forward to it especially as I seem to suddenly be a very nervous passenger. I suppose because we have not been anywhere these last 18 months. We are off up to Staithes in N.Yorkshire to stay in a cottage with our son and family from N.Ireland. I am trying to get organised and have discovered that I am totally out of practice in getting ready for a holidaysurprised

Our young Latvian neighbours got married today. It was obviously a very small affair but the wedding party have just arrived back (about 10 of them) all looking very smart. I am so pleased for them as they are a lovely couple. I think they had planned a bigger affair but obviously their family and friends from home are unable to travel here.

PS OH and youngest son went up Hellvellan many years ago (I couldn't join them as I had broken a bone in my foot - that's my excise anyway!) and were most put out that they were also overtaken by mountain bikers.

I bet your OH suspected that the route was a bit iffy, and so sent you that way to reccy it before he headed that way himself.wink

Glad that you, and all others that have just returned home this weekend, have had a good time away.

WN, lovely flower photos. Wallington is a special place to visit, especially at this time of the year.

At the moment my walks are confined to the flattish roads locally, but I do try to step out and are averaging about 3 mph for an hour or two. I haven't done many big hill lately and would struggle at even your pace perhaps.

I hate it when you're puffing and panting away halfway up and wondering why you do this when a Fell Runner not only passes you going up but has enough puff to ask you if you are OK and is gone before you have the breath to answer him/her.😤😤

Not just the flowers in the hothouse but me as well. Could have sworn MiL said Delphiniums but she apparently said Exotic Petunias as a guess!embarassed

Millie, I could say the same about your upcoming trip as Staithes is bang in the middle of some of our favourite places. Hope you enjoy it but suspect it will come second to seeing the family and quite rightly so.smile

Have a great time Millie, it will be lovely to see your family and you will enjoy Staithes, although I can’t do the hill these days, it’s a lovely area.  Try to visit Runswick Bay, lovely beach for a picnic, usually fairly quiet.  Saltburn is another favourite of ours, pre - pandemic we enjoyed the fish restaurant there, gorgeous food.  There are so many lovely places in the area but I’m sure just being together with the family will come first.

Round the IOW yacht race yesterday over 1k entries, weather very reasonable for sailing, this is Scarlet Lady anchored off shore IOW, sorry not a brilliant picture but you can see the colossal size.

Daughter and partner + 2 dogs arrived Friday evening so a bit of knees up yesterday, track and trace have called twice already tongue-out

😂Payback Nellie. I took him down the flooded nature reserve road at Alkborough Flatts, it was up to our cranks😱 He should know better than to follow me, my inbuilt “danger ahead” monitor was warped as a child🤣

Millie, much to my surprise, not having driven very far myself in last 15 months, the A1 was fine. I just had a look via my IPhone for any hold ups, knew there were road works past Gateshead, and both there and back were very good. Traffic a lot lighter than I thought it would be. Have a great time in Staithes. I can highly recommend Perry’s Nursery and Garden for a great outdoor afternoon tea if you fancy it. Just South of Whitby at Ruswarp. Gardens very nice, all along River, with steam trains chuffing by higher up, and nice food.👍

WN I did my right click Bing search and the plants at Wallington are Salpiglossis (they're annuals, grown from seed.) We drove past Wallington as well as Cragside recently, have been there many times, seemed strange to be driving through and not stopping, the road goes through the estate and we could see people enjoying their walk arounds. I used to love the dolls house in the house itself.

Rufs, good to hear your daughter arrived safely. That boat is huge, my friend looks out on the Queen Mary 2 from her home in Torbay.

Millie have a lovely time in Staithes, hope the journey goes well, I think road journeys this year are harder due to everyone staying at home!

Meanwhile, back at home and in the garden, I spent ages winding wire solar lights round our new  pergola a couple of weeks ago, they seem to have failed! Will have to climb up and reverse the process. Maybe candles in jam jars will be easier....

Well done on identifying those flowers Brue, I failed miserably. Like you, I also, spent an hour and a lot of blood winding solar lights through my rose arch, and they have failed after a couple of days. You can replace the batteries I think, if you can get the solar unit open.
