What are you all up to

I too love West Bay and the surrounding area. I had a few holidays there with my Mum and Dad when I was a child and I now have a cousin and his wife living in the area. They say they try to avoid Lyme Regis and West Bay during the height of the holiday season though.

brue, it's good to hear that your new young neighbours are interested in their garden. Quite a few youngsters have got interested in gardening during the last 15 months or so which is good. I just hope it continues and they don't get bored with it once they get back to their 'usual' lives.

We hope to be down that way in September time Brue. Just trying to work out if Booster jabs will interfere with any of our bookings and plans but if they are giving them 6 months after the second vaccine, as they have indicated, then we should be fine.
Had another smashing day today, the best we've had weather wise. Had a pub lunch in Ripon before going onto Newby Hall to satisfy my Chippendale urge ( I can just see ABM's pencil being sharpened now!
). That man was a genius and along with Robert Adams produced some breathtaking furniture of all types and designs. We then sauntered around the well kept gardens and all of us thoroughly enjoyed it.The Church on the way in caught my eye. Sometimes small is beautiful.
We've had a grand time here in our rented cottage but most of all MiL has had a holiday that felt like a holiday at last. Off to Northumberland on leg number 2 (cut it out Brian or you'll run out of lead😱😂) of the holiday and a new to us cottage a few miles from Rothbury. Weather doesn't look so good but I'm sure the North Eastern welcome will make up for it.

Will you be visiting Cragside WN? It's OH's favourite place. He is a great admiter of Armstrong's achievements. I just absolutely love the house.

We drove past Cragside on our recent NE visit and I was surprised to see how much landscape clearing had gone on since we last went there, mind you we used to go a lot when my sister lived in the NE and that was qute some time ago when things were quieter and the NT hadn't got the manpower. I think they're going back to a similar thing now so maybe it will get overgrown again?!

We have visited Cragside on a number of occasions. Now we don't like the house, Millie, but enjoy the gardens and the drive around the estate as there are lots of different walks that can be done in them. Hope you have as good at time up that way, WN, as you've obviously had in Yorkshire.

The engineer arrived this morning to service our gas boiler, and all was fine, so it looks as if it will last a while longer. Get another visit to the vets this afternoon, after my solo 3 1/2 ml walk, ( It does seem strange not having a 4 legged companion with me), and they were pleased with the progress of the wound, but must pay them another visit on Monday for a further check up, the result of which will hopefully mean that we can get away as planned on Tuesday.
Booked a further site for our Autumn trip, but only after phoning the CL owner when we got no reply to our email. The owner thinks that my inquiry had gone into her junk mail which she hadn't checked. Perhaps this also happens to others who complain about not getting responses to their email booking enquiries.

TG.......the Hertford site is very big, nice and flat, trees dotted around, so you can have shade or sun as desired. 2 facility blocks, fairly modern looking. We are up at the far end of the site, quite a few really large outfits.....MHs and 5th wheelers.....as well as plenty of other MHs and vans.
Warden advised that pitches near the entrance got road noise.
I have not been in the showers yet, will report on them later. OH will use van shower, but I will use the site ones to save hauling too much water around.
The water and waste seems to be in separate places, not at the blocks. Unfortunately we have ended up halfway between 2 of the service points, which is not so good as it means a fair trek over grass. OK at present as it is warm, dry and sunny. Only 5 such points on the whole site as far as I can make out. Wish they had site maps on line!
We are on a hardstanding, wide enough for van plus awning, car is on grass as is usual with CCC. Pitches are plenty long enough.
Toilet emptying is only at the blocks, and refuse is only at the gate. MH service point is there too.
Wardens are very pleasant, check in was outside, warden with clipboard checking car number and asking about covid etc, where we had been, had we been abroad. Another warden helped is choose a pitch and made sure we could site the van easily. We had to use a plank under one set of wheels as there is a slight sideways tilt to the pitch. Most pitches seem similar.
The site is easy to find, they give good directions on their website. The road to it is narrow in places, but not a problem.
If you want some food shopping, there is a big, new Aldi not far away. Turn left out of the access road and continue on the A414, which is a very busy road, past 2 roundabouts and a couple of bends, and it is on the left right next to the road, just west of a river.
Otherwise there is Big Tesco on the NE side of town, with fuel, which we will probably use before we head to our next site.

KjellNN good to see you are posting. Hope you're enjoying your break, from what I read you are.
Not at the moment, but please can you put your daughter's sponge recipe on here again? I had great success with it. So much so that Ihad had to purchase a deeper storage container to store it in. 😱. Not had the opportunity to use it yet as my tablet died last weekend and I've had to buy a new one. The old one won't charge up so I'm unable to retrieve anything from it 🤐😤😡. There was no warning at all. So cross.
Enjoying reading folks posts but am keeping fully occupied here at the moment.
Take care and stay safe, we actually have a warm day today - our fire has even on most evenings over the last 2 weeks!

Yesterday we moved from CAMC Battle site to CCC Hertford, via the A21, M25 and A10, just over 2 hours and 90 odd miles. We made good time.....only queue was approaching the Dartford crossing.
Before we left Battle, we got a call from the site here to say our credit card (which is in OH's name) to pay the balance of the site fee had been declined, which was strange as we had been using it for other sites, fuel, shopping, and the site £25 deposit just a few days earlier, and the credit limit is well in excess of what we spend. A second try gave the same result so we had to dig out a different card.
After we had lunch I went on line and paid the Dart Charge of £2.50, using the same card, I am an additional cardholder, seemed to go well and I got a receipt via e mail.
Then we went along to Aldi for shopping, I have my cards on Apple Pay so used that, and again the same card was declined.
Managed to log on to Barclaycard to check account, all seemed well, no strange transactions, Dart Charge in pending transactions, however OH rang them this morning to see what was going on.
She got the usual inquisition, lots of being on hold, multiple "discussions with colleagues", and no problem was found, so it is all a big mystery . She was told it should be fine, use it again and get back to them if we had more problems. I have just used it to reserve some tap washers at Screwfix, which went fine, so we shall see.
Not sure what we will do while here, we seem to be in a National Trust "black hole", with nothing nearby to visit. Suggestions welcome!

Hatfield House isn't far away KJ, the Salisbury family have another country retreat in Dorset, both lovely old houses. We missed Hatfield on our visit, would like to have seen it, your card might splutter at the cost. Hope you get the card mystery sorted..is it getting worn out on holiday?!

PS what is the Hertford site like, we should have used it, but forgot it's existence. Hertford has some nice old buildings.

Spent the morning finishing the assembly of a very cheap bird table from an on-line company { Stortford Based } grrrrr Should have spent half as much in B & Q or similar and just re-furbished t'owd un ! Just completed giving it a coat of stain so now it's balanced on top of an open wheelie bin to get plenty of drying sun before the storms arrive over night. Spending a while on the P.C. now to get in the BBC programme of Diamond League. Heck of a change to watch athletics and not T de F or Wombledon , nor even Kickball

( Yesterdays krikit was a perfect sleeping pill !! )Take care Y'all & be ready for a few days of soggy & 'orrible weather -- keep the awnings up & anchored to allow your pups to have a stroll at least in the dry especially those with pawly paws

Thanks JVB.
We looked at Shaws Corner, only the gardens are open, and booking is required.
London.......been many times and seen the main sights, and in warm weather as we have now, would not be good for us who are used to lower temperatures.
I think we will just relax here for our other 2 days.
The site here has really filled up for the weekend, lots of tents now.

Hi KjelNN. You could try a trip out to St.Albans. Plenty of Roman history and the cathedral itself is worth a visit. Not sure how far away that is from Hertford though but seem to recall it's not too far.
We had a transition day today and decided to stop off in Richmond for an hour or two en route north. All of us really enjoyed the experience having never visited the place before. We've made a note to call in when passing again to visit the castle as we didn't have time today. Then called in to a pub for lunch, The Shoulder of Mutton in Middleton Tyas near Scotch Corner if anyone passing that way. They take the C19 precautions very seriously still and good to see. Food was good as well.
The A1 was a drag but as Ttda had already advised us of it, it didn't come as a shock and we had time on our side. We've been on worse but I think we had luck on our side today.
The cottage is completely different from last weeks and we all like it. This one tucked away down a mile long farm track where the only problem I had was remembering that we didn't have a caravan behind us, which would be normal fare for this type of road.
Just come in from sitting outside in the evening sun having a glass of red. Might be our last sun for a while judging by the forecast. Take care one and all.1 -
Glad you had a good ride up WN😁 Richmond is rather nice, some good shops, brilliant castle and some nice pubs. We overnighted there enroute to Scotland one year. Enjoy your Northumberland stay.
Last night for us in our cottage here in Borders. Lovely weather today, we stayed fairly local to our cottage and just had an afternoon in Melrose and Jedburgh. Been a very nice stay, different given there are still a lot of places not open here in Scotland, or on restricted opening. Visited some very nice gardens, and it’s lived up to being a brilliant area for cycling. Home tomorrow, see what the gardens are like.......😁

Kj, many thanks for the info on Hertford, it should do us fine for an overnight on the way to the tunnel, enjoy your stay.
Day 4 here near Stranraer, weather has been good so far. Doesn't look great for Sunday when we are due to leave but as we are going home it doesn't matter.
Met a couple here the other day who we just seem to hit it off with, haven't laughed so much in ages, another meet up in the planning.
Went down to the Mull of Galloway today, bit hazy so couldn't see Isle of Man or Ireland. Quite busy with lots of cars but didn't see many folk, don't know where they all were. Afterwards we took a drive up to Port Patrick, lots of folk around there.
CL full/over full every night, one long stayer here, most just a few nights.
Great to hear other's out and about are enjoying their time away. Have a good weekend all.

Sounds like you have had a decent break Ttda. Good weather as well.
The A1 is going to be a bit of a nightmare for a few years yet and anyone travelling around Newcastle would be wise to build in a delay of some sort, 15 minutes if you have some luck or more if unlucky.
I'm afraid MiL and Mrs WN found some clothes to buy in Richmond. I've told them, One in One out but they don't seem to understand that the car only has so much room!🤷🏼

That's your error for taking them into a town, WN. I thought you knew better! Did wonder if you'd call in at N/T's Gibside on the way up. It is one of those places we intend to visit but never seen to be in the right place to do so. Must find a CL code by and pop in someday. Enjoy your time in Northumberland.
Tda, good to read that you all had a good time in the Borders. There are certainly a lot of interesting places up there to visit without having to travel over far.

Had a blitz on the front garden today. Two Hippo bags and three council garden waste bags later......
I booked a slot at the "tip" earlier this evening for Monday.

Technically yesterday but a record breaking nine Wainwright's in one day in fantastic weather. From Glenridding to Boardale hause then Angletarn Pikes, Rest Dodd, The Knott, Rampsgill Head, High Raise and Kidsty Pike, High Street, Thornthwaite Crag and Gray Crag then down to Hartsop. All 12.01 miles. It's true what Wainwright said from the hause onwards we didn't see a single person.
The pic is lake that only walkers will ever see, Hayswater with the High Street range behind taken from Gray Crag.
