    Sounds interesting jvb.

Goldie, after a big event it always seems strange to suddenly get back to normal. Glad it all went well.

Nellie, poor Flyte, hope the next attempt at stitching holds up well.

Still raining here, two days of washing waiting to get dried. Think it might be better tomorrow?!

Goldie, it sounds as though you had such a lovely 2 days. And what great weather as well.  It has been grey and rainy here all weekend. Yes after such a lovely occasion life seems a bit 'flat' for a while.

Nellie I do hope the vet was able to re-stitch Flyte's wound and that all will be well.

I have had a quick emergency trip to the dentist this morning as one of my crowns and the bridge fell out yesterday. She has managed to stick it back in as a temporary measure and will re-assess at my check up in the Autumn, unless it all goes wrong before then.  First my eyes and now my teeth.  I am falling apart heresurprised

We had a damp Abbey Choir BBQ on Friday although Ssturdsy was a bit better.  Travelled up to Durham Grange CAMC site on Sunday afternoon and have been on the beach at Seaham (just S of Sunderland) today.  Also been to see the Angel of the North this afternoon.  Only here for a few days.  Weather lovely today in the North East - even got the shorts out...

We had a lovely day at Harewood House yesterday. I did wonder whether we had made a mistake as there were hundreds of cars already there just after opening time but there was a big Charity Dog Walk through the estate well away from the house and gardens.

I took quite a few photos but for some reason the computer isn't speaking to my camera. Shame really as the Himalayan Garden area had some lovely plants. Might post them later after the expert sorts it out. Recent update just before coming away so will get the expert in (when she can tear herself away from her drawing exercise). I was most impressed with the Digital download version that Harewood provided for descriptions of the articles in the house as Volunteer numbers were down. You can access it from their website so everyone can view it. The musical clock, El Greco painting and Chippendale wine cooler were voted the favourites plus the impressive sculpture of Adam in the entrance hall.

Quieter day for me today but not my bank balance as the ladies hit Harrogate and the shops.😱 Lunch at "Gino d'Acampo's". The queue at Betty's for lunch was unreal and quite disturbing at this moment. Mrs WN called in first thing and bought a box of Cheeky Little Rascals for her and MiLs tea tonight.

WN. There's always a queue for Bettys! (I'd be in one too...wink)

Fed up today, Waitrose order came with six big items missing, not even my paid for paper and the order was after 3pm...grrr

The sun came out so it's stopped feeling like October.

Nice to hear about trips away.

Sorry to hear about Flyte Nellie☹️ Just in case you carry a doggy first aid kit, try Vetwrap for covering wounds. You put padding underneath, then hold in place with the Vetwrap, which is an elastic bandage that clings to itself. Your vet might sell it, but a lot cheaper via a Saddlery. As used extensively with horses. Hope he gets sorted👍

Lovely warm sunny day here, garden visit at Floors Castle for us.

You're not stalking me are you DSB? Having driven past it a number of times, we stopped off on our way to Durham to get a closer look at the Angel of the North, known locally as the "Gateshead Flasher" apparently.  Didn't stay at the CAMC though, but a CL just on the edge of town for the princely sum of £7 per night.

great if you stick to the rules but looks like it hikes the premium if you so much as go a tad over the speed limit or you have to stand on the brakes for whatever reason, have been doing a lot of motor way driving over the last couplle of weeks and i find that there are times when you have to exceed the speed limit to avoid others who maybe doing 50mph in the middle lane surprised to avoid an accident.undecided

Engineer been in and done her job (she's a keeper).

Some photos from yesterday. It proves that "Satire" isn't dead. Last one is a Stupa (google it!)

We needed some food yesterday so we called in at a Waitrose (Otley). Left without buying anything. So you're not the only one annoyed with them Brue. Went to Sainsbury's instead and came away with £50 worth. Waitrose is a waste of my time. Take something as basic as your humble sausage. Waitrose still add flour (if you could find any of them on their shelves). Aldi, Tesco, Sainsburys, Co-Op etc all have modified their fillings to put in things like Rice flour nowadays, a big change in the last 5 years.

I was intrigued about the Waitrose sausages...they do sell some that are GF by Musks and another producer. I suppose it's the luck of the draw what's on the shelves when you go in...?

Yes they sell three varieties of GF sausages. Although it's not something I have ever looked for I wonder if they place them with their other GF produce?  You should have asked, I am sure the staff would have been happy to help.

iSorry to hear about Flyte's leg NTH and hope you get it sorted, I have got some bandages here that are self adhesive and stick very well and are suitable for pets also good with rain, think a lot of sports folk use them also in many colours.

The vet wants the repaired wound to be open to the air to speed it's recovery, so no bandages. There are heavy duty stitches inserted and he will be wearing a collar of shame at bed time. No running or jumping for him, which will be difficult to control as he is a typical Springer.

Lovely warm sun today once we got away from the high Pennines.

The A1 was busy but everything was moving fine. Arrived at our CL for the night just after 13.00.  Really warm sun so decided to sit out for a few hours enjoying it. cool

Off to another CL near Stranraer tomorrow until Sunday, hope the weather holds.

Hope Flyte's leg gets better soon, its so hard watching them all the time.

WN, sounds like you and the ladies are having a good time.smile

Glad Flyte has been sorted and yes we have been there with stitches and the collar which our Springer got off  and looked at us as if to say try that again.

A dull damp morning here after we managed to get some grass cut yesterday as it was a bit long the rest will be done when drier, off shopping this morning to Villefranche and now OH's Landcuiser all sorted he can drive for a change.

Off to RHS Harlow Carr this morning, when the 2 ladies can shift themselves.laughing Sun shining at the moment.

It's not just sausages at Waitrose. When we're away like this we tend to eat more ready made meals. The women folk insist that I have a holiday from cooking. Waitrose lags far behind other stores when it comes to using alternatives flours than wheat. I know because I look for it, probably more than most other people on here as they have no need to. We can get some stuff but it is very hit and miss.

WN. I suppose because I'm doing on line shopping at Waitrose I can bring up all their GF products with the click of a switch, not so easy when you're ploughing round trying to find things on shelves unless there is a dedicated area. Haven't been inside our Waitrose for a long time so can't remember how they display GF.

Ah Harlow Carr....another Betty's queue (or there was one last time we were there) hope you all enjoy your visit.

We're off to look at the Sixth Form art exhibition from our daughters school department, finishes Thursday at Bridport Arts Centre if anyone wants to look in....might be nice to escape the damp weather and see all their efforts. A major achievement getting this together through Covid.

Then we'll have lunch at Groves garden centre near West Bay, the high life!! laughing

Beach today for us😁 A slightly remote, little secret place, too far for lots to walk, but our 92 year old manages with an arm to lean on, and the dog to follow. Good place to take MH as well, park up in dunes, spend the day.

I hope Yorkshire is being kind Wherenext, weather and crowds wise. 😁

CY, which CL did you use? OH paid £7 last week, just wondered if it was same one. He’s booked into an £8 one for travelling home. He does like to spend😂

Nice warm sunny day here again today. Not the most pleasant morning for me had a dentist appointment to get 2 crowns fitted was there for over an hour hoping it’s not going to be too painful after the anesthetic wears off. Shouldn’t need to go back now until November. Just a day in the garden today enjoying this weather while it lasts.  Sounds like those away are enjoying themselves

TDA, we were at Baxter Wood Farm No 204 in the SD. Actually it was £7.50. It was the next one, The Old Station House  No 1790 between York and Stamford Bridge that was £7.  No wonder Harold chose that spot to fight the Vikings. It's a real bottleneck over that bridge with the traffic lights. Having to wait for the green light just to get a few warriors over at a time would have played havoc with Harald Hardrada's strategy.

We have been in a Waitrose in the last month but because I don't require GF products I don't really look for them, but will next time I am in. Doing a search of the Waitrose website shows up hundreds of GF products. Also I checked in our freezer at some of the Easy to Cook range which we often use for convenience I noticed that where flour is mentioned it is rice flour which I assume is OK? I appreciate that if you not familiar with particular supermarket I suppose it takes more than a short visit to establish what they sell in the way of specialist products.

DK, it's a bit more complicated than just looking in GF dedicated areas. I look at food in the general areas. If it's an Indian Curry I want then I look in the Curry section (Indian food tends to be pretty good for leaving out wheat flour whereas Chinese food doesn't). If it's sausages I want I look in the Meat section and then check the ingredients. Most stores do not have these type of foods in designated areas. The "Free From" sections tend to encompass a lot of Cakes, Bread, Crackers etc rather than full on meals. There are some sections for ready made meals from specialists like "Kirstys" that pop up in GF sections but since Vegan and Vegetarian food has taken off these tend to have had their shelf space reduced. Even M&S has reduced their shelf space and number of products in their Free From section, which is a dedicated section for ready meals such as Lasagnes and Quiches etc.

I may have been a tad unlucky with Waitrose the other day as it was Sunday afternoon but having crossed the road so to speak to Sainsbury's I found everything I wanted. I will use Waitrose stores again but stand by my comment that they are poor compared to most other supermarkets for my needs. I will compliment them though on their fish, which generally is of a good standard.

The Ladies had a smashing morning at Harlow Carr, without having to visit Bettys, and had a lot of sunshine to go with it. They said that everyone in there behaved themselves regarding distancing etc. Some photos attached of their favourite specimens. they'd like to know the name of the pink "hanky type" flower and the Purple fir cones tree if people know.

    The Hosta was a miniature!

MiL tired out by here exertions this morning but a G&T currently acting as a Reviver.smile

Weather and Crowds fine here Ttda.smile

I have to find somewhere between here and Rothbury to stop off for a few hours on Friday on our trip up to Northumberland. Might need to also find a pub to spend lunchtime in. Can't get in until 4 pm in our next cottage. Any ideas? Best if not far off A1 heading north.

Our son and DIL lived for many years in York before going to N Ireland and we had some very happy times at Harlow Carr. Lovely place.

We have had a good day. I spent the morning on duty at the Cathedral. We had some lovely visitors who were mostly here on a short holiday from various places in the UK.  This afternoon we had tea in a friend's conservatory (6 of us with the doors and windows open). It was the first time we had managed to meet up for over a year so we had a really good catch up. OH's day has been made complete by the result of the match 👏. Did anyone watch Andy Murray's match last night? Talk about a nail biting match!

There's a free phone app called "Lens" which you can use to identify flowers, among other things, in situ. Just open it up and point camera at the flower and it will search for the type and provide further data about it.
