What are you all up to

You never know you might start hearing better without them. I was prescribed hearing aids about 15 years ago, exactly the same time as Margaret was told her hearing was fine. After a couple of years I gave up on them and I am pretty sure my hearing has only marginally got worse in the last 10/12 years. Margaret on the other hand now has to wear them and is as deaf as a post without them!
Your hearing might be a lot worse than mine but it will be interesting to know if it makes any difference?

Not quite as wet here today, but have had some rain and it's been much cooler than previous days. Took Flyte to the vets at 9:30 this morning and collected him at 4:00 pm after his operation to remove a couple of ugly lumps on one of his front legs. He seems fine this evening but has spent a lot of the time resting quietly, which is unusual but not unexpected. It will be a few gentle walks over the next couple of days or so before we'll be putting in the miles again.
Lovely photos by both M and Corners, you both have had super days out.

Main problems are listening to conversations when there is background noise and TV sound ,my hearing aids are/were blue tooth which enabled me to block and/or enhance speech and could connect direct to tv for cleared sound and I could alter volume

Glad Flyte is ok after op Nellie but they do recover much quicker than us as I remember with our two springers.
Had 42.9mm of rain overnight certainly had more than a months worth now with all the rain we have had in the last 6 six days since we came back from the Cantal region, no gardening here and the grass is growing rather well it is usually a lot drier and browner at this time of year but the jetstream has been a lot lower down towards Spain than above the UK.
Inside chores for today although OH's car is due to be collected today have had a few busy days as the garage had the CT done but found wheel bearing needing done plus another part and our friends camper was done as well but they did not do the CT and being done today even though they said service and CT and as CT is done at a different place about 10 miles away heyho but at least all done, the owner of the garage told us that from 1st November until end of March that vehicles must have tyres on for snow conditions M/S mud and snow OH ok as his landcruiser has them on but will need to sort mine out and our friends had to have 2 new tyres on the front of his camper so at least they will conform, nearly half departments will have this rule and chains for the mountain regions we have not had snow here for about 7 years, the tyres are road tyres not the really nobbly ones that are used for off roading.

Finished the back door step replacement this morning. Now trying to Unseize everything!
Off to town in a moment. Mrs WN has a hair appointment for a tidy up and we need to pick up all sorts like prescriptions etc. A walk around might help the back.

We have some hazy sun at the moment. It'll do I suppose.
Best wishes to Flyte. He's in good hands.

Goldie That sounds like a really relaxing holiday. (I am not a fan of motorway driving either!)
Moulesy Such lovely photos. It looks like you are having a really good holiday in the LD.
Nellie I do hope that Flyte is recovering well after his operation.
WN I hope this afternoon's jaunt with 'unseize' everything.
It was OH's birthday yesterday and as he was feeling a bit better we decided to start the day at our local farm shop and have breakfast sitting in the sun. After that we drove up to Easton Walled Gardens as it was the first day of their Sweet Pea Week. We had such a lovely day and the gardens looked wonderful in the perfect weather. We can't believe our luck as it is back to grey skies and showers today. Our son and daughter came over in the evening (at separate times to comply with the Covid restrictions). So all in all a very good day.

We have been over to Loweswater today, one of the remoter lakes, though, oddly enough, we met more folk out walking today than in some of the "easier to get to" spots we've visited this week. Maybe folk are consciously looking for what they hope will be quieter spots.
We stopped for coffee overlooking the lake and with the northern part of Crummock Water visible beyond. A few minutes after I took this picture the clouds descended and the view had disappeared!
Returning along the lakeshore, we encountered this very "friendly/curious" herd of, I think, Belted Galloway cattle, one almost coming nose to nose with Ralph. Lovely animals, though and not at all threatening.
Near the lakeshore someone had decorated this huge sycamore tree as a "goblin tree" complete with spooky decorations.

Spent the afternoon sorting out a UK tour for September / October, 17 sites in all, a mixture of CAMC and C&CC. We decided to postpone France until next June 🤞before Brittany Ferries took the rest of the money. Now they don’t take it until next March. It was all looking so uncertain for France and the sites we were looking at in this country filling up fast. Disappointing but I think it’s for the best. I certainly didn’t think when I booked the ferry last July, we would be in the situation we are now.

Some photos of our visit to Easton Walled Gardens for OH's birthday yesterday.

Thanks David. France certainly looks like it’s likely to be more problematical than Spain. President M and Chancellor M are buddies. I spent another hour trying to sort out a test for coming back in St Malo, without much success. Part of the problem is that both out and inbound meant that the test was required at the weekend. Sorted it here but wasn’t convinced it would be problem free in France.

Pleased to hear Mr H felt well enough to enjoy some birthday treats Millie, the gardens look beautiful. I've got some sweet peas growing at home, mostly purple tinged white ones...got my seed packets mixed up! 🌱
Sorry that some on CT are having to change longed for holidays abroad, very frustrating for you.
We have had some nice breaks so far this year, searching out a few new places has been good but our next break will involve a short drive into Dorset.

Thanks, Redkite, WN and millie too. He seems to be doing fine, eager as ever to get out for a walk and eating his meals without any problems, so the antibiotics haven't upset his appetite. Will we what the vet thinks tomorrow when he goes in for a checkup. I guess it helps that he is an active fit dog generally, and is not overweight either.
Glad to hear that your OH was feeling better for his birthday, millie, and that you had a good day out.
Hope your back is soon better, WN. Not the most pleasant of conditions, especially when you have to drive any distance.
Redkite, you were fortunate not to have that amount of rain while you were away. Hopefully it will have all passed over and not return, as the TdF starts this weekend. I'm not sure if it is passing through your region this year.

Thanks Nth no tour through this area this year and of course a bit earlier due to the Olympics so will catch up on that .
Had the rest of the day yesterday dry and today but storms again over the weekend,OH should get his landcruiser back from garage today and our friends are coming over in their little car to pick up their camper think there was a crossover in language when they took it in for CT and service.
We had a storm whilst away on the first week in the Cantal had to stop in layby as I could not seen through the car windows and wipers were on top speed right next to the river Lot, better the second week but the 2nd gite was higher up at 400 metres and they had a small ditch right around the garden of the gite so the grass was very lush and quite soft to walk on, but we enjoyed the area and want to go back next year sometime as a lot to do in the area.

was at the Portsmouth ferry terminal yesterday and could just see the new Virgin cruise liner (Scarlet Lady) tied up alongside. It is a giant of a ship makes our new aircraft carriers look quite small, not for me though, 3000 passengers is just a little too much, she will do her first cruise in August, not a brilliant photo as i could not get close enough to the quay side to take in the full picture.
Bit of nostalga and a bit grainy but that is the 1400 hrs Portsmouth to Caen ferry just leaving Spit Head.

With all the current uncertainty, escalating figures, various costly tests, potential quarantine being imposed, blocked entry, I can't work up any enthusiasm for booking a crossing. This is the second year I have postponed my trip each time thinking that perhaps by autumn it might be better. Now I'm hoping for late Spring 2022. I just have this nagging feeling that we will be in the same mess next year.

Sadly I fear your nagging feeling is correct. We seem to do as we're told and almost reach the finish post before it happens again.........
Hopefully more being jabbed and keeping people out unless quarantined, I make no mention of football 😤🤐, will see us to the finish line this time. And when there's indication of another variant, shut down travel/mandatory quarantine straight from the airport, to lessen the chance of spread until we know vaccine will help against it.
We have to learn to live with it but at the moment I feel we are being contained but certain things are acceptable, and have been all along 🤐. All animals are equal but some are more equal than others! Crowds and singing at football, no choirs, Ascot and Wimbledon limited numbers for weddings...... I'll say no more........

Six months to Christmas btw

We hope very much that our flights over to N Ireland in August will go ahead this time - at long last. We haven't seen our youngest son and family over there for 18 months. Other than that I have no wish to go anywhere 'over there' for the foreseeable future.
Yes brue and bakers2 I have the same feeling about the huge cruise liners.

Just opened a beer and SWMBO has her wine.
