However the pitches are not wide, so just as well we did not want to erect an awning. Rally in the next field, but all very quiet.

Kjell, you must have been unlucky with the size of your pitch as most of them are appear to be as large, width wise, as those in club sites although they are a bit shorter. There are quite a few vans here now that have awning on their pitches. The site is again nearly full, as is the C&CC site. The rally has gone, but there is a circus with the tents being erected today, along on the Rugby Club fields, opposite the Land Rover garage, with performances starting on Wednesday.

Drive down from Clitheroe went without a hitch.

Site not full but not far off. We are on a grass pitch at the far end of the site overlooking the river Dee. Only 12 outfits in this bit of the site, has the feel of a large CL.

Really hot here yesterday so put off a cycle ride until late afternoon. Cycled along the Wirral way to west kirkby. It was busy even then, everyone having a good time in the water on paddle boards and canoes. It looked very inviting, made do with a nice 99 ice cream though before cycling back.😁

Had to get up at 3.30 am to take down the sun canopy, the wind came out of nowhere, a few others doing the same. It was a bit overcast when we got up this morning and there had been some rain but neither of us heard it.

We had a fright the other day as I was cooking dinner, I turned on the Omnivent having opened the skylight first. All fine for a minute or so then BANG the fan blade shattered, quickly turned it off, bits of blade chips everywhere around the hob. Thankfully the pots had lids on so dinner not ruined. OH had to dismantle it after dinner, it has broken the whole casing but thankfully not the skylight. What a fright it gave us.

Thanks WN, AD, for the suggestions will look at going over to New Brighton tomorrow morning. We popped into Cheshire Oaks this afternoon while out and about, I got a new pair of Sketchers☺ might go over to Liverpool on Wednesday, would like to go on the ferry so will check that out tomorrow morning as well.

Millie, glad the op went well ☺

AD, one day the planets will align and we will met up 😂😂😂

Well we sprung a surprise on ourselves today.

After completing a walk this morning over moor and down gorges and back up again we got back to the caravan about 1.00 ish. Had a coffee and Mrs WN suggested we pack up and come home (supposed to be tomorrow) so I agreed as it seemed sensible to do so.

So an hour later we were off and home in a couple of hours. Mostly unpacked but the remainder won't take long tomorrow.

Had a great holiday of 3 weeks. Walked miles, cycled a few as well, ate well, had excellent CLs to stay at and the weather played it's part as well. Hope everyone away or just setting off is as lucky as we were.

TG, if you like gardens and don't want to travel far then you could do worse than try Ness Gardens, not far from Burton just down the Wirral or maybe save it for another time.

Had a lovely few days away last week at a site called Green Acres, just N of Carlisle.  Managed to visit Gretna Green and Hadrian's Wall (at Housesteads).  We tend to avoid larger tow s these days, so didn't visit Carlisle.  It was good to walk near the lake at Talkin Tarn Country Park and also made a quick visit to Watchtree Nature Reserve.

Started this week off with a visit to the vet for the dog.  Lizzie has an eye infection, so we have some eye drops.

Managed a Cadac tea in the garden this evening.  Thought it was worth a go as the weather could turn later on in the week.

Not sure if the pitches vary in width, but ours was only wide enough for van+awning or van +car, and the site instructions asked thateverything be on the gravel to maintain spacing.

Several vans had awnings up, mainly smaller vans, and they had gone back far enough to be able to park across the front, partly on the road.

With an 8m van, we had to go back over the grass about 1.2m to have hitch well clear of the road, no way could we have parked the car across the front.  Possibly some pitches are longer, but did not see any that looked much wider, but did not like to stare at occupied pitches!

Was fine for us as we were not using an awning.  There were some unused grass areas, possibly we could have parked the car nearby if necessary.

We are settled in at New England Bay. Somehow we got away earlier yesterday than usual, and after a good run up arrived half an hour early at 12:30. I apologised profusely and was warmly welcomed.

The site is almost full, but doesn’t feel crowded. It’s fine but breezy, so we’re just relaxing in the awning (pretending to be outdoors).

A bit of a disaster this morning as someone nameless knocked over a full carton of cream. Breakfast was delayed while we scrubbed the carpet and I washed his shorts and shirt.

Goldie146 we have had cream fall over in the fridge on a long trip took ages to get rid of the smell, was a few years ago.

Thought of you as where we are in the Cantal region the local farmers have been busy cutting grass all around us and then we watched them do round bales then the back bit of kit wrapped them up then it was dropped then carry on with next one with pale green wrap but most are black around here and like you they start early 6am this morning, the local cows are Salers are all the deep red/brown colour but they also are black, one of the oldest breeds in Europe as I was reading about them last night.

    Enjoy your break.

We have been to a high local viewpoint 770m with stunning views for 180 degrees around so have taken some photos not sure what they will be like, very narrow road going up but the one down a better road as that is for coaches and motorhomes but still narrow in places, best views in the Cantal the owner of the cottage told us this morning and agree with him.

A lovely warm to hot day, a trip to to the Tyne but this time headed westwards and went Gannin' alang the Scotswood Road, to see the Blaydon Races.

Although today's version would be gannin' along and counting all the car dealerships - 9 in total.

Past Blaydon and along to Prudhoe then south east back to home. That part certainly which was on roads crossed four old railways lines and wagonways and made realise just how blooming clever these railway engineers were in not going uphill. There are some big hills in-between and I did 2398 feet on assent, luckily not all at the same time. Fell asleep in the garden this afternoon.

The white building in George Stephenson's birthplace and the fantastic (I was in rapture just looking at it) over track signal box is at Wylam, where the pub is the Best pub in the world, or so it said on the wall.

We arrived to our cottage at Dudlestone,  midway between Ellesmere and Chirk, yesterday afternoon, having negotiated the final half mile down a single track road with high grass in the middle! surprised

We are truly in the middle of nowhere with only very slow "rural" wifi, so what with that and CT's legendary speed heaven only knows when (or if) you'll get to read this. frown

Cottage is very pleasant, including a hot tub in the yard (which we probably won't use, so maybe we should be asking for a reduction!  wink)

Just over the road is the most basic of basic looking CLs, a spot called Kilhendre Hall Farm, an idyllic location with a small stream running through the grounds and just the sheep for company. One van there at the moment, I assume they must have used a different access route.

It's been a very hot day today so we set out early for a walk from Whittington, a village just down the road with the remains of a 12th-century border castle.

And what a walk it turned out to be with several overgrown footpaths  (I can never quite understand how they can be so well waymarked but apparently never walked on since!) and it was nettles they were overgrown with. Several very high stiles to lift two, thankfully very willing, dogs over.  Then got chased by a large flock of sheep who appeared to think we had come to feed them (not sure what make of sheep they were, all black with a white stripe down their face - any idea Goldie?). A stretch of canal with swarms of midges and then to cap it all, had to cross a very marshy area just before the end. (Mrs M was not a happy bunny with her new fabric walking boots on, but we won't go into the sort of language I was hearing - don't want to be banned from CT for offending folk laughing)

All in all, it took us the best part of 4 hours so by the time we got back it was exactly the sort of temperature we'd been looking to avoid.

And yes, it was my choice of walk so I'm hankering down now, not having mentioned the France v Germany game that's coming up later on tonight.

    Wish me luck! surprised

They could be Zwartble sheep. A local farmer has quite a large flock to them, they are very tame, nowhere near as cautious as most English breeds.

We’re in the ‘van  at Hawes this week, love the area, and good for get away again.

    🙂

Had a frustrating morning trying to rearrange medical appointments. System modelled by Fred Carno. Then trying to speak to someone at HM Gov about pensions. Had to try again after lunch. Got through finally but no joy, they'll ring back, which to be fair they did later on when we were out.

Had a lovely couple of hours sitting out in the sun having a drink and a chat with Tammy and her OH. It was nice to be back doing another normal thing. Enjoy the rest of your trip away.

Escaped from the first of the neighbour removals yesterday, never seen so many removal vans, do people have so much stuff?! The last three big vans departed at 7.30pm. Note to self, keep up the clearing out of surplus possessions.....

We went over to the Willow and Wetlands centre for lunch and a walk around. Surprised to see more visitors than usual, they are expanding the venue. Very hot so was glad of some shade in the woods. The river Tone and rhynes had plenty of fish and wildlife on view.

Nice to hear of a CT meet up.

Don't melt in the heat today!

Great photos brue and memories of the area.

After being up on a superb viewpoint yesterday today we are going the other way and have booked a train trip from 3pm to 6pm on one the older trains called the Gentiane Express line in the high Auvergne and looks like some more lovely scenery and it looks like the last dry day as storms are on the way from tomorrow s have decided to leave a day early as Saturday looks dry so can get washing done and OH do the chores on his Landcruiser for its CT(MOT) on Monday also our friends are having their small camper done at same time so will be with us for 2 nights then take their caravan back home as all their groundworks will be done and they will have peace and quiet again.

Have enjoyed this area more than last weeks so will come again next year but a different area and a cottage again.

Glorious walk in our local estate this morning.

Was really cross when I spotted this. Still can't decide if it's VERY LAZY or a nice gesture for someone else celebrating up the there with an open air gathering.

    Enjoy your day folks

Milliehull that's exactly how I felt. I've posted it on our local fb page, hopefully it will be collected by someone local to be used. We've had some lovely balloon arches, numbers and fancy shaped ones put on our share and care fb page since lockdown for others to benefit after the originators use.

I find it unbelievable that folks can carry a picnic/cans/cups/bottles etc full to 'their' spot of choice but can't bring them back empty or put the in the bin 😤😤😤.

I saw one of the park folk emptying bins and thanked him, I would anyway, for keeping our lovely estate park so beautiful. We discussed the state of  the bins, I was disgusted by a very neatly placed dirty nappy - behind an EMPTY bin, along with the debris from a McDonald's meal 🤐😤. He did say that the foxes empty the contents but then they are scattered......

Why do some folk always think its someone else's job to clear up behind them? This is one of the reasons a parking charge is being introduced instead of free access for all........

    Rant over- I think 🤔

Glorious here currently 24c in the shade, having been out early with the dog, the dentist at 9am and a walk into town to get essential bits and chat to banks 😱 over protocols, I'm now chilling in the shade before lunch. Grass cutting must be done later as rain forecast - hopefully overnight and without a musical accompaniment, must have things looking good 😉.

Stay safe folks and enjoy your day.

Totally agree with you Bakers2. I went for a walk on Southport beach last weekend where you can park your car on the sands. There was plenty of people picnicking next to their car but later in the afternoon there was several  spaces where a car had been, but had left the remnants and litter from their picnic. Absolutely no excuse. They had been right next to their car, and only a minutes walk from a bin.

I totally agree. People leaving litter is one of my biggest bugbears. It makes me so angry.  I just don't understand why people can't take their own litter home with them. After all they managed to take their picnic/takeaway out with them so why can't they take the litter back with them?

I agree with what you say about people dumping their rubbish, even when they are a short distance away from a bin.  I think that it is the fault of councils as they should employ people to serve very heavy fines on people who leave rubbish.  An ex colleague of mine was, quite rightly, fined for dropping cigarette ends outside our office in Southport town centre (she certainly didn't do so afterwards), so one wonders why they  they don't fine people who leave littler on the beach.

We've had another hot day today; in fact so hot that we had to abandon the walk we'd planned to do from Ellesmere to Welshampton and back along the Llangollen canal because it we clearly going to be too much for the dogs who both decided to lay down in the first bit of shade we came as if to sat that was it for the day! laughing

So we had a very pleasant stroll around the mere and back through the park and settled for a pub lunch instead!  surprised

Shropshire council seem to have decided that now is just the time to resurface the main roads around Ellesmere so we had a very "exciting" trip through some of the counties narrower lanes there and back (so many potholes) including a short delay for one of the local farmers to move his herd of cows along the road for milking time!

Back now for a much needed cuppa (and maybe, just maybe there'll be some footie on TV later on - I think Wales are playing tonight aren't they?) wink

I've no idea what we're eating but it will be later rather than earlier!

Still hot here, was 28 in the shade but we now have a welcome breeze  and the odd cloud. The garden is desperate for a drink but a nice steady rain please 🙏. My rambling rector is making a magnificent show be nice if it can last until at least Saturday. Last year it got bashed by heavy rain the day after it flowered 😪 came down to a white lawn and bare stems 😐
