What are you all up to

As I understand it the idea on the 21st June was to remove all restrictions including mask wearing in any context. Given that we know so much more now about how the virus spreads I mentioned public transport because it is a place where people can be cooped in close proximity for some time. There is maybe a case for keeping them in the circumstances you mention but whether we continue to carry the great British public with us remains to be seen?

Nice sunny day at last ☺
Got the washing done and general tidy up of the caravan and car.
Site almost full last night, we had a late ish arrival next to us. Father and son on bikes with a tent, they quickly set up and went off in search of food. Arrived back just before 23.00, not sure if they found food but I'm pretty sure they found alcohol. The young lad was a bit loud and jolly 😁 didn't take them long to settle down though, then we heard the snores
thankfully it didn't go on for long. When we got up this morning (at our chosen time)they had gone, never heard a thing.Had a nice cycle ride out this afternoon along the Leeds - Liverpool canal.
WN you sound like you have had another good day, far to energetic for me

DK, I hope they do delay for another few weeks, gives more time to get younger ones vaccinated. I to hope masks remain indoors and on public transport. I would also like to see sanitizing of trolleys etc to carry on while we still have high numbers. There will always be new variants of Covid we just have to hope the vaccines are effective against them.
Off to the Wirral tomorrow, been trying to get a visit there for ages, lost our booking there last year due to a lockdown.
Hope Millies Op went well.

Have been sorting out and paying for upcoming shortish trips, CL and rally this time, coming in at £13 and just over £10 per night, nice to have the options for cheaper places and just as good as some sites, if not better or should I say different? Might even go for a THS if we can squeeze in another small break but OH is grumbling about his tomato plants etc.

I even watched the cricket today...thump, whack and out....
maybe not a good idea...1 -
You seem to have done many of the same walks as us during your time in Derbyshire, W. That Curbar Edge walk is a great one to do, but quite a slog to get back up from the valley to the car park (if you started from the RSPB car park.)
Moulesy, we normally do the White Edge/Curber Edge/Barlow Edge round, if it's been dry or the ground is frozen solid, parking on the roadside just off the Sheffield road, where there's usually plenty of room during the week.

We thought we would let you get the cows and sheep used to visitors before coming ourselves.😁
We always start the Curbar Edge walk from Baslow and when we come up from Curbar itself we climb the road out beside the church until Gorse Bank and come past tge farm after walking over a few fields. Last time we did it we were surprised to find a bull hiding in shade under a tree in the last field. Fortunately it was too hot for him to be bothered.😨😝
Enjoy Ellesmere. We often wander down that way for a stroll, especially in Winter.

TG, if you are interested in museums and collections then try a visit to Lady Lever Art Gallery at Port Sunlight, the village itself being of interest. The Gallery is closed Monday but is free (and not just on Mondays😁) You'll probably have to book though.
Good cycling along the Wirral Way as well.

Hoping that MillieH is getting used to seeing the world a lot clearer and brighter than before ~~ If so could the dear lady please forward the surgeon's address to the England & Wales Cricket Team 'cos I think, from a good distance I know, that they need urgent optical advice

Can’t believe our weather at the moment, glorious. Prep for getting away continuing here, sorted out MH yesterday, load of washing done and dried, packing today. Fingers crossed it stays like this for a few more weeks now🤞
Brue, I fret about plants as well. Hoping to have my greenhouse empty by time we head off. OH hasn’t bothered this year with tomatoes. Mind, his theory seems to be plant them and then hope a garden fairy looks after them.....😉0 -
Thanks for your inquiries about my op folks. All went well, very quick and completely painless. (Helped along by the fact that the consultant was a very good looking Greek guy
.) Eyesight not completely focused at the moment but improving all the time. Sorry I am not in a position to help the England cricketers ABM! Pleased to hear that all those that are away are having such a good time and enjoying this glorious weather. Eldest son, DIL and grandson came over yesterday evening and it was so lovely to sit in the garden until late. Next door neighbours were enjoying their hot tub. Enjoy the sun but take care.We haven't heard from Bakers2 for a while. I hope all is well with them

Weather here has been lovely all weekend very hot and sunny. We had some family over yesterday afternoon for a few drinks and a BBQ in the back garden so nice to see them again first time we had all been together for a long time.
Millie - Glad the operation went well hopefully you see the difference soon. I had also though about B2 not being on here for a while hope all is well with them same goes for Helenandtrevor not heard from them in a long time hope all is ok there too.
Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend

Francis. I am in fairly regular contact with Helen and Trevor and all is well with them.

I'm still here, thanks for thinking about me.
Been busy mad about here for a few weeks and likely to continue in the same vein for some more! Thankfully we are both well and managing to see new grandson fairly regularly. Been reading posts when I get the opportunity - inbetween 🤐🤐🤐 error messages! So I've been keeping up with goings on. Good to read everyone's news. Error messages prevent a reply along with time constraints!
Milliehull great that your op has gone well, doesn't it make a difference? Also good to read HelenandTrevor are doing ok. I do wish there was PM facility here, but there again it might crash the site 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Managing, when I allow myself, a chill - not the weather variety 😉 day, had to take to the shade after early dog walk through the woods, but usual routine tasks have to be done. Will need to do some important paperwork later plus dinner later, meant to chill yesterday but could only settle for 15 minutes maximum. I can't relax if I know things need doing.
Stay safe and keep your fingers crossed for us, I'll enlighten once everything more definite..........

Really hot here today complete it seems ,change of membership arriving, from the weekenders, most of the new and almost new twin axle top of the range caravans behind Range Rover, and BMWs , the arrivals so far today have all been small two berths or older family c/vans , towed by recent plated cars, plus a couple of older M/Cs and two new M/Cs with older drivers

And no curtain twitching needed

Ps Just been reminded by OH ,quite a few "gin palace"outfits arrived last Thursdayand the majority went on serviced pitches
also there is only one "meeting point" with ccep and waste water also mc service point, there are several other drinking water and mixed waste points (sorted at depot.)

Great to hear from you Bakers2 and to.know that all is well. Also good to hear that you are managing to see your new grandson regularly. I expect he is growing apace.

Pleased to hear your op went well Millie, a big relief for you no doubt.
Intrigued by the Baker2s plans!
Our day revolved round bees, see the What have you seen thread if it's of interest! I had just gone round to say goodbye to our first neighbours to move next week when we all mentioned there was a lot of humming in the air..🐝
Nice to hear you had a good day with the family Francis.
We've got visiting dog but both dogs are inside due to the bees.
The cat and I are just having a quiet moment together outside, I don't think he'll want to wander too far just now.

We are now in Wales, on our usual CL near Broughton, to visit our friends near Ruthin. Very warm when we arrived.
Good run down from Kendal, though traffic was quite heavy. Yesterday was warm in Kendal, but Friday was dull and damp. We were on the Spital Caravans small site just opposite the school, nice site with all serviced hardstandings. However the pitches are not wide, so just as well we did not want to erect an awning. Rally in the next field, but all very quiet.

Just missed you Kjell, as we arrive at the Spital site tomorrow. We know the size of the pitches but as we don't bother with an awning it's no problem. Is the rally still on during the week? There was one last time we were there and they too were very quiet.

Millie, glad to hear that the OP went well.👏
It's good to hear from you, B2, and that you are both keeping well.
Nice that you could get together with your family and have had a good day, Francis.
We've not done a lot today, just a few walks from the site with Flyte. Lots of cloud about at times, interspersed with periods of sunshine, but it has been warm with not a lot of breeze. Took the opportunity to do a final wash, which saves a load or two when we get back home, and all dried by lunch time.
The Lapwings are out and about just now swooping over the fields infront of the van.

So very pleased to hear that, MillieH & Bakers2 are doing well, wish that I could claim the same !! Sports mad peeps in this country really have to be uber-selective in their chosen sports, alas.
Millie ~~ after my cataract ops, I was ever so well behaved, standing in the front window, hot coffee in hand reading, or trying to read, vehicle number plates as they passed a point in the road self-designated as a good Licence Qualification

The only problems Chez Brian is due to my smelling the definite presence of calories being prepared out there in the Great Outdoors, despite it being a grey sky from East to West. Still it 's allowing the neighbours youngster to raise our spirits with his splashing and giggling in the paddling pool ~~ always a pleasant noise

Take care, have fun, enjoy the warmth !!

Just read your bee posts brue, it much reminded me of my Aunt, also Godmother. She passed away 4 years ago this week. A renowned bee keeper, she kept them for 70 years. Once, at 91 she received a phone call to collect a swarm, I went with her in the car. She placed the box under the branch and got the bees in the box all within a few minutes. As she placed the box in her car I said, " I think I'll walk back Auntie", just a couple of miles and ever the coward me. By the time I got back the bees were in a previously empty hive and the kettle was on. She was so eccentric, I have so many funny tales, she made life interesting for sure.

Debsc. Our lot were also transported off in a car about 9pm last night, all very calm in the box with a sheet over them. A few stayed behind but we were told they'd probably find another colony.
We have often thought about keeping bees but the most suitable space in our garden (strangely where they swarmed) has another house nearby, built after we came here and we feel it wouldn't be workable now.
Our alternative is to grow lots of good plants for insects.

Brue your bee post reminded me that many years ago at our previous house we had a wasps nest in our loft. We noticed a lot of wasps buzzing around under our eaves and OH investigated and found the nest. We rang the council and they sent a guy round who wasnt hapoy about going up into the loft (said he wasnt insured for that) but went up there anyway and puffed something all over them. He came back the next day and retrieved the nest once they were all sedated (or dead?) and showed it to us, especially our children who were fascinated. It was an amazing construction and I felt very guilty but we couldnt leave it up there sadly.

Millie
We have had the same both in the loft and in our canopy over our lounge windows. When we had canopy insulated a few years ago they had to remove several nests. The one in the loft I did myself, in winter I should add!!! Apparently the nests are made out of wood which the wasps chew and then use to build the nest. As you say fascinating construction.

Stayed overnight at Exeter Racecouse a few days ago.,.exceptional value at £15.40 but that’s another story. However, I was sitting on the swivel passenger seat and could hear a noise which I initially put down to the headrest slightly catching on the closed window blind. When we turned in for bed we could still hear a noise which sounded for all the world like little feet scurrying in the space above the cab overhead shelf. It was intermittent, but the more we listened, the more we became convinced a mouse (or worse) had taken up residence in the cab. We tried to go to sleep, but the noise persisted. Conversations ensued about whether I should try and dismantle the shelf and lining, should we take it to a MH dealer or enlist the services of a pest controller? The more we listened the more vivid the image of creatures in the cab roof became. We got up again to have another close listen and my wife noticed the blind moved slightly thinking the mouse was just about to introduce itself! Then the penny dropped…… the passenger door window behind the closed blind was slightly open allowing the breeze to rustle the blind! How stupid we both felt… but very relieved.
Travelled via A35 to Poole today, never seen so much traffic heading west in my life - this staycation lark is definitely catching on! 😲

And us, it was a nice change to get bees! I think our bee keeper did quite well as a new colony can cost £300 plus to install and if they don't like it they might not settle. A friend of ours bought some doves for his dovecote and watched them all fly off! (Dovecote= medium back garden not large estate.
