Last time I borrowed a pair of bolt cutters from a tool refurbishing centre to cut fencing wire, I was told that it was the police that had donated them! The polis used them for opening padlocks, chains and handcuffs? Your neighbours weren't handcuffed ??

WN & Robsail. The neighbours had lost the keys to their hefty padlocked gate...I think OH had to use a metal saw in the end as the bolt cutters weren't much use.

Two months after ordering our new Summer House has just arrived. So far it doesn't look lke the photo on the website - just a lot of panels stacked against a wall.

All I need now is some strong willing farmers (3 generations) to assemble it, so I can sit outside without needing a scarf when it;s breezy, and retreat to when it's too hot. And I'm off to look online for solar powered fairy lights etc.

Goldie, I've just bought these solar  wire string lights from eBay. Have been charging them up this morning, going to drape them around our new pergola (except I'd forgotten it's quite a high structure!)

The forecast did say it was going to be sunnier at the coast and so it was. A lovely 22C. For those staying at Old Hartley the lifeguards are now back on duty.

I thought I was dreaming during the night when I heard a Skylark singing. It was only 3 o'clock in the morning. Still dark as far as I could see but then again I did have the curtains drawn.smile

So dropped off back to sleep only to be rudely awoken at 5.30 by the Cows in the adjacent field deciding to have a "Lowing" Competition. Ah well, sleep is overrated.

Had a nice cycle ride in the sun. Off tomorrow to another CL. It's been super here.

Testing, testing. Am I back in?

I went for.my covid test this afternoon prior to my cataract op on Friday so OH and I are now self isolating until after the op. OH wouldnt be going far  anyway though as he is still feeling the effects of his shingles so a quiet couple of days is just what he needs.

Sad news from here. We had to say goodbye to our lovely old cat Charlie yesterday. He was 19 and getting frail but was fine at lunchtime and demanded his lunch as normal but took a sudden turn for the worse at teatime. We shall really miss him as he always made his presence felt. His sister died nearly a year ago to the day so the first time for the whole of our married life we have no animal companions.

You are coming in loud and clear Millie, saw your other post earlier too but wasn't signed in.

Best wishes for your cataract op and also hope Mr H starts to feel better soon. Very sorry to hear about your dear old pussycat, you will certainly miss him.

We nearly had to call off our visit to eldest daughter this week as working grandson developed a bad cough etc he did a self covid test which was negative but work insisted he did the full test which has just come back negative too. We think he has a bad dose of hay fever which our son used to get. Anyway the trip is on again.

Sorry to read the news about Charlie, Millie. It must be hard especially having lost his sister so recently. But you will have so many memories of happy times with the two of them.

Hope you have better luck with your op than I had last week - did the Covid test, 2 days self isolating, got taken into theatre and given a dose of some really good stuff that knocked me out completely and then woke up in the recovery room to be told by the nurse I'd been there for 15 minutes and they hadn't been able to remove the teeth because, even under sedation,  my gag reflex was too strong! So if I want them removed now it'll have to be at RUH under general anaesthetic! Not very keen on that to say the least so,  as they're not actually giving me any pain I'll put up with them and just hope no more bits break off! surprised

So sorry to hear that moulesy. What a disappointment after having the covid test, isolating and spending time in theatre all to no avail. It must be so frustrating for you. I am so not looking forward to Friday but it will be good to get it over and done with. It was all so much easier when OH had his eyes done about 5 years ago. Now it is all tests, isolating having to go in on my own everywhere. The price we pay under the current circumstances I supposr.

That must have been a worrying time for you brue but it is good that people are being extra careful. I am pleased the 2nd result was also negative. So glad you can now see your family.

Thanks for your good wishes folks. The sadness and emptiness we feel.now is the price we pay for so many years of faithful companionship.

Sad news indeed Millie. A good long life though and something to be both thankful for and proud that you could provide it.

I have empathy for Mr.H. having had it twice myself. Good luck for the cataract op.

What can one say Moulesy? Maybe you'll just have to grit your teeth and bear it. Sorry.

Day 3 here at Ravenglass, one more left until we move.

Have enjoyed it here, site is nice and quiet just couples. There's lots of trees on this site it reminds me of some French sites.

Weather has been good, not always sunny but mostly so. Been out cycling, walking and even did the narrow gauge train ride.

Millie, good luck with your Op on Friday. Sorry to hear your sad news, 19 is a great age. Hope your OH recovers soon from the shingles, its a horrible thing to have, I had it some years ago so can understand what he is going through.

Oi,  WN, I'm supposed to be the purveyor of lousy, rotten jokes, if you don't mind !!

Welcome home Millie,  hope everything goes ok with the operation on Friday -- don't forget the shades tho' cos everything will seem a little brighter and colours will be two or more shades lighter.

My aged sister has an aging moggie, Alfie by name, who has lived ten or so years with her and must have been three at least when he transferred from her g/daughters tender care, so he's likely to be getting a visit from the Moggie Pension Bureau very soon !

Sorry to hear your news Millie😢 They don’t half leave a massive hole in a home. A good long feline life though. Our house is the same, always had an animal companion of some sort. Hope the op goes well, and that your OH is feeling a bit better.

Bad news on the Gnasher front M, teeth are on my list of nightmares. I’m a grinder......🦷

We are still packing for the start of our trip, tomorrow.  First stop is Kendal.

OH is pretty organised, just needs me to carry some stuff out to the van for her, then she just has the fridge/freezer stuff to do, and last minute bits and pieces in the morning.

I, on the other hand, am, according to OH, disorganised, though apparently a bit better than usual!!

Discovered when packing clothes yesterday that I had missed one pair of trousers that were to be shortened, so still that to do.  Car mostly packed, and caravan bits such as Aquaroll, OH has written a list we will check through soon.  Bound to be something I have forgotten!

Rain this morning, hope it stays off now and will be dry tomorrow.

Had Callum on facetime at lunch time, he is missing us already and had a very sad face.  DD was also on facetime this morning, she was missing our company, nobody to talk to!

We have offered them the use of the van in early August for a week, so they are looking to see where they can find a pitch.  Not too far away as I will have to tow the van there and set it all up for them, then return to pick it up.  Looking at sites on the Solway.

Between our return and them using it, it will be going for a service, so that will mean everything has to be emptied out and replaced again.  At least we can call on DD to assist with that as they will be bringing their stuff here to be packed.

Bit of a grey cloudy day today, so lazy morning followed by a drive out in the car. Got brighter as we got near Millom but it didn't turn into sunshine frown we did however have a nice ice cream and a walk before coming back to the van.

Brue, the little train was nice, although a bit shaky. The hills along the route are in full flower with Rhododendron bushes just now so was looking lovely.

    Moving day tomorrow.

Bound to be something I have forgotten!

Kj, I'm in the same boat! Got 15 minutes up the road with caravan behind me today when we got a phone call from the previous CL. We'd (that's the Royal We)  had left the motor mover lever on the pitch!. So I turned around some 5 minutes later and returned to fetch it. The day only got worse from there.

I think everyone must have had days where small things keep going awry and after a couple of hours you want to scream. We both had one of those days.

Nevertheless we're here, set up, showered and fed. New day tomorrow.

Happy travelling TG and Kj. Remember those check lists.

Doesn't sound like the best of days, WN, but pleased to hear that you have at least got set up.

TG Hope both your and Kjell's journeys are without mishap.

We moved up from Olerton yesterday to a new to us CL at Loggerheads. What a great view from the site, definitely one of the most extensive from any the many sites we've used

Visited Hodnet Hall Gardens today and was most impressed with the displays of Rhododendrons, Azaleas, Berberis and Magnolias.  Well worth a visit at this time of the year if in the area.

I remember we had a trip like that WN once. It was heading to Dorset. First bad luck was a tyre on van going on M1. OH got that sorted ok, Then we had a tyre go on Range Rover in Dorset, got that one sorted fairly easy. Then Range Rover steering lock refused to budge. That one needed assistance, duly sorted. Throughout it I remained calm, laid back. Then I discovered I had picked up the wrong soup, a meaty one instead of veggie. That was a crisis😂

Glad you and Nellie both having a good time, we are in the starting blocks here, not long now.....

Been off CT for a few days so I'm a little out of touch with what's been going down on CT... We're out in the caravan at the moment at Green Acres Caravan Park, just on the outskirts of Carlisle.  Been to Gretna Green, have found bits of Hadrian's Wall, and have visited Talkin Tarn Country Park and Watchtree Nature Reserve.  Still avoiding large towns, but off home tomorrow.

    Hope all are well.

Following the upsurge in cases of Covid and the advice for those in Lancashire not to undertake non-essential journeys we have cancelled the next site on our trip, which was in the Pendle District, one of those with a higher number of cases, and instead are heading up to our home county on Monday. I have however been a questioned whether this was necessary, but we do not consider our trip to stay in the area essential travel hence our decision. I just wonder if we are being over cautious, but we have already had to head home early twice following lockdowns and fear that this could happen again.
