My dream location to live would be somewhere like the middle of Dartmoor. We can both happily get along without to much contact with other human beings, and much prefer animals of one sort or another for company. Friends and family would be welcome visitors and no doubt we would enjoy something like being volunteers at say NT or other heritage centres, but we like our own space, and are lucky (at the moment) not to be dependent upon any kind of health or social needs. Good wifi, a land line phone, a big freezer, 4x4 vehicle, space for our hobbies.......bliss!

We are awaiting new neighbours next door. Imminent, we have met them and said hello, they seem very nice. Going to be a big change for them, in forces and from South East. 🤞

I best not talk of my 2 single 60s y.o. men neighbours, one each side, except to say they are both a complete waste of space. Man Child springs to mind for both.

Woke up this morning and opened the curtains to a canvas of blue and green with "Simpson" type clouds and dry stone walls making a chequerboard of the countryside. A Skylark started to sing from the adjacent field and a Curlew flew down the valley calling its evocative cry. I thought the day might turn out to be a good 'un. laughing

I was right. We were soon up and out, driving the huge distance of 2 miles to Hartington and then walking up Beresford Dale and on up over the hills to Alstonefield. A coffee from the village hall and a return down to Wolfescote Dale and back up the other side.

Sometimes everything just seems so perfect. The weather, the lack of crowds, the countryside, the walking itself. We couldn't have chosen anything better, anywhere.

So, yep, the day turned out ok.😊 Even got the clothes off our backs washed and dried.

Currently watching the exceedingly hard working farm staff gathering the silage in from the fields that were cut yesterday. Been at it all day.

Hope everyone else enjoying a lovely day.

Our most spectacular neighbour so far once spent the night in a police cell, so far no-one has quite come up to her level ....(or should that be down to her level?)  Over the years we have had every sort of neighbour imaginable, luckily most have been ok, fingers crossed for the next arrivals. wink

In one of our first houses we lived next to a young couple. They had no stair carpet on their stairs and the wife used to go upstairs in those heeled backless slippers, on each step she clonked. One evening her husband popped into chat with my OH,  on hearing her go up the stairs he said, " what the hell is that?" We laughingly told him, we never heard it again.

We live in a village, it has a Drs surgery, chemist, butcher, post office, Spar, village shop,  primary school and nursery, hair dresser, pub and a hotel. So not lacking in any of the things we need.

The bus service to town is every half an hour.

There used to be a garage but the brothers retired a couple of years ago. The ground has been cleared and is currently being used by someone to sell 2nd hand caravans. Though not for much longer as its in the stage of containing planning to build a couple of houses on it.

When we moved here 30 years ago it was mostly retired folk, now there are lots of families moved in and we have a new housing development, 4 more are planned in the next 10 years.

Our elderly neighbours passed away over 10 years ago, their daughters owned the house and it sat empty for a few years while their mother was in care. We had got used to the nice peace and quiet. They sold it 6 years ago to a lovely young couple with a small toddler.

They have now got 2 children, 5 and 7, a big Labrador and a cat. The once beautifully kept garden is now a jungle and dog toilet. They are in the process of ripping out the lovely beech hedge and installing a fence 😡 so far its took him 4 weeks, he has now got the posts in and some rails. He doesn't tidy up as he goes along so it looks like a demolition site.

The garage has been demolished as she is having a wooden cabin installed, so she can operate her business from it, she does 'nails'

They have a habit of door banging all hours day and night, dog let out into garden rather than walked, who then barks her head off to get back in. The once lovely couple have become a PITA

Thank goodness for owning a caravan/ MH we can escape as often as possible.

Its been a nice day today, tomorrow will be even better, we are going away again 😂😂😂

    Have fun folks.

I was born a Townie (just a small town Townie) but since I married a farmer 51 years ago I've lived in the country. I love there being no houses round us (there's just my son and family across the yard). We're midway between a village (with church, school, village hall but no shops or buses) and small town. My mother used to compalin about the volume of our children's voices (they were used to being as loud as they wanted with no one to disturb).

I don't like crowds and even more so as I get older and would hate to live anywhere else. With brilliant  hyperfast broadband, and the onlne world of shopping, we've got everything we want.

Home after a nice 2 night stay at The Ranch AS site in Maybole. Weather on Friday when we arrived was excellent and during the day yesterday was nice too although we did get a bit of rain last night. Site was full looks like people are enjoying being back out in their vans. We never really done much just took a drive along the coast yesterday and had a walk around Girvan but mostly just spent time on site relaxing. Lovely weather again this morning so no bother packing up then an easy 45 min tow home. Got the Volvo washed and caravan away as we won’t be again in it again now until the end of the month as we have a few family things in over the next couple of weeks. Had a lovely view last night from our caravan window of a lovely red sky photo below . Re discussion about neighbours we have been quite lucky we live in a small coastal town but Glasgow is a 40 min drive away and the larger towns of Irvine, Kilmarnock and Ayr an easy drive or bus/train ride away so we have access to all we need plus our town has an Asda a few pubs restaurants and shops the by pass starts at the end of our road too so easy to get most places. We have been in our current house 33 years and have been lucky neighbours have mostly been great had one who moved in next door an elderly lady a few years ago who liked a moan about the kids when they were younger or the caravan blocking her view (no where near her house sits at the back of our drive she couldn’t even see it from her windows) after she died though the family who are there now are ok not had any issues with them and the neighbour in the other side is fine too so touch wood it stays that way for us.

We live in a square of 15 detached houses. All are well very kept except for one. The front and rear gardens are an absolute tip, rubbish taking up 95% of the area including two scrap cars. Inside of the house is, apparently no better and it is only the back door that can be used because of rubbish blocking the front door and patio door, inside and out. The house is owned by a lady in her 60's who lives there with her 30 year old daughter. About four years ago there was an electrical fire  and the power was disconnected for almost a month. The fire service said it was unfit for habitation. We all thought / hoped something would be done to clear the place up as a result but unfortunately not. How we all hope she would move away but I'd pity anyone who bought the house. It would be a mammoth task to get it back up to standard. It would need a train's worth of rubbish skips.

Funnily enough, I told our daughter who lives locally too and she said she'd picked up some nice strawberries from a fruit farm near us...obviously Waitrose have to wait for a delivery from further afield...and there will be a lot going spare this year if Wimbledon doesn't go ahead, all 23 tonnes of them!! wink

One of the problems that blight some properties in our area is people have moved ;and when sold to letting companies as it is usually a quick sale, but when let get no care by the tenants resulting in scruffy Gardens and  lack of attention to the houses by the landlords and that is with rents of £2000/2500 and above per month

Weather is a tad iffy today, bit of rain this morning, but now dry and sunny. Decided to be a domestic goddess today (doesn’t happen often😂) and having a good old tidy up, clean up etc... I loathe housework, would far rather be upside down in garden, but after over a year of having no one but Mum and Sis visit, might be seeing friends hopefully soon. So more of a tidying effort required. The dog has a date with a Furminator once he wakes up........😱😁

I know I shouldn't complain - but I've had to come inside as it was too hot!

We've rummaged though a cupboard and finally found an actual camera. Well, we found three, but only lifted the most recent one out. It hasn't been used fora few years, but I'm thinking of taking ot away next week and getting used to it again. I don't imagine the output will be any better than from my phone (I blame the camera woman), but it will seem like a "new toy".

Time now to prepare supper - mostly northern English (Formby asparagus, Lancashire potatoes, Lancashire strawberries and Scottish salmon)

Couldn't believe it. Woke up to rain. Had to do some shopping.😱

Cleared up later on so we've done a decent walk. A lot have gone home judging by the empty walk paths we used. 2 have left from site so I suppose they were half termers. I know one of them was a teacher.

Not too hot here Goldie. A nice 18° at the moment and bits of sun breaking through.

Two pleasant days although yesterday was a good bit warmer than today as we had cloud cover for most of the day after light rain through the night. We've done two walks of over 7mls from the site, yesterday to Eye Church with it's alabaster effergies, and today up onto Bircher Common. Have just had a light shower of rain.

After the heavy mist had burned off, this morning, it's turned out to be a hot day here on the East Yorkshire coast.  Washed the car, polished the van, deep cleaned the Weber BBQ and a few other jobs, in readiness for our trip to Low Hedgeley Farm near Alnwick, on Thursday. This is a trip we had to cancel, last year - so really looking forward to it.

It's all happening here!  OH kept saying he had a nasty pain round his midriff last week which was worrying both of us but he wouldn't ring the GP. Then one morning he was getting dressed after having his shower and said 'I've got some spots' so rang GP - telephone consultation within the hour and then called down to the surgery as they wanted to see him. You've guessed it - he has shingles.  This is despite having the shingles jab a few years ago. He was told that like all jabs it is not 100% effective but will hopefully mean that the symptoms will be milder. He has been given anti viral tablets.  He still has a lot of pain and feels a bit low. On top of that I had my outpatient appt at the local private hospital about my cataract op last week and was asked by the consultant when I would like it done.  ASAP I said  so I am booked it for Friday.  They have booked me a covid test tomorrow afternoon and providing that is negative it is all systems go. OH and I have to self isolate from tomorrow pm until Friday which isn't much of a hardship if the weather stays nice. I am not looking forward to it but it needs to be done, especially after being on the NHS waiting list since Feb 2020 and being told recently I was looking at a wait of at least another year, maybe 2.

The tours have started at the Cathedral and I was on duty on Saturday morning and showed a lovely couple of ladies around.  It was good to be back in harness again.  I am hoping I will only need a couple of weeks off after my op as OH has said he will be my chauffeur until I am passed fit to drive again.

I hope everyone is having the same lovely weather as here.  We had a bit of a blip on Friday when it rained most of the afternoon and evening and yesterday was cloudy but very warm. Very pleasant day here today.

Warm day here, middle child and partner doing us a BBQ this evening (tomorrow OH will be starting to sort their bathroom plans which have gone awry and ground to a halt...)

Around 9AM OH had to release neighbours from their garden with a pair of bolt cutters...heard that new neighbours replacing them will be in their 70s (maybe soon we'll all be past sorting these things out and will all be safely locked in?! laughing) Then OH shed clearing, couldn't bear to look at that event. Garden centre and vets visit later, dogs still waiting outside with their owners, it looked like Crufts but not a very cheerful line up. No wagging tails outside the vets 🐶🐶🐶

We're off to see our eldest and family this week, a chihuahua gathering I think with a take away in the garden.

M/H goes in for a small repair after that and I hope nothing else crops up!!

Had another super day's walking, this time from Youlgreave, along Bradford and Lathkill Dales to Monyash and back across the tops. Lovely warm weather, great nature watching including seeing a Slow-Worm which I almost stood on. Phew.

Back home for shower and clothes washing. Just about to have Bangers, Sauteed potatoes and fried eggs. Need the carbs for tomorrow.😁

I'm intrigued as to why bolt cutters were needed to release the neighbours Brue. Do tell.

Yes, it is great to be doing normal things, although we beat a hasty retreat from Morrisons in Buxton the other day. A reminder that there are still covidiots around.
