What are you all up to

I have recently renewed with Avro Energy I have had no problems with them and they don’t push you into fitting smart meters a plus for me.
It’s sunny with blue skies this morning in Dawlish Warren. So far we have been caught out every day with the showers. On Monday we were playing crazy golf on the sea front at Teignmouth when it began to hailstone
, we were already wet so carried on playing, well I had paid for it.

I hope you get away on time WN and that you have a good trip. It looks as though you might get a good spell of weather.
We have been with SO Energy for the last 3 years. No problems so far. We have been with most of the 'bigger' companies over the years all with their own problems.

A dentist appt for me this morning for a clean and polish.

Last site on this trip. We are now on a CL at Dornoch. Very short hop down from Brora.
Weather not as good as forecast but it is dry, just grey skies. Off into Tain shortly to get some bits of shopping.
The CL was not easy to find using the coordinates printed in the site guide as they are wrong. However our trusted NTH had given me a heads up on what to look out for 🙂
Only 2 nights here then sadly home for 8 days before we head off again.
I think our decision to start off on the west coast proved to be the right one as we had good weather there while the east and rest of Scotland had rain. Now on the east its still dull but at least its dry.
We got a message this morning from our GP surgery giving a link to NHS Scotland for our Covid 19 vaccination status. All now registered and able to access on our phone 🙂 just need for more 'Green' countries to be able to go to.
NTH, speaking to the chap looking after this CL he tells us the whole farm and CL is going up for sale in the next few weeks.

Glad to read that you got there in the end, and that I was able to help in some small way. As far as we are concerned it would be a great pity it the site closed, as it suited us fine and was a bargain when Malcolm owner it. Unfortunately he passed away last year, I think, and it passed to his brother.
Hopefully it will stay dry for the next couple of days of your trip.

It certainly does. EDF are our 5 one in 4 yrs as I keep swapping suppliers to get the best price. I think that I missed out last time not going with Octopus.

We are settled in Kent at Bearsted site ,great journey on M25 and M20 no other c/vans? ,stopped at Maidstone services for lunch as running 30mins early
; they have about 10 bays near services dedicated caravan drive through parking, about 10 bays only one available the rest occupied by white van man vehicles

Same here. Had a bit of bother when the Co-Op changed to Octopus as the recently installed smart meter appeared not to read on the gas side of things but they got that sorted eventually. Very easy to deal with by email.

Yes, they communicate really well, which is a big plus. We don’t have a Smart meter yet, older property which needed some modification of some sorts to outside meter box area. They just never came back to fit the actual smart meter🤷♀️ But OH simply emails monthly readings, takes a few seconds, and we get reply back very quickly. I think they are a well regarded supplier.
We had hoped to go for a local bike ride today, but weather is very hit and miss, so we have done other things. More DIY tasks, quite enjoyable really. Just brightening up now. May has been a very wet month here☹️ Roll on June, fingers crossed it will be better.🤞

Thanks Nellie, we are off to Shin Falls tomorrow. Went there years ago when we had the dog but she was 16 years old so not up to much walking.
The chap looking after the CL said it passed to Malcolm's son and daughter, neither of which are interested in running the farm. Its a far size of place as it includes the land all the way down to the sea, the house and all the farm equipment and buildings. He reckons it will go for sale offers over £800.000.
There is ehu here now and price gone up to £15 pn

Yes I swap nearly every year, so far have avoided the ones that go under but it does happen, looks like we just missed one! I find a new dual fuel fixed contract and then leave if I find a better one at the end. Some companies are good some not so.

Off to our last site tomorrow, a CL in Worcs.
Hope everyone has some better weather on the way.

Packed up the final bits this morning and left after the oven had been repaired, so MiL happy (on both accounts).
Had a nice easy run to the CL. Plenty of space and actually chose to site ourselves on the grass as it wasn't as bad as I feared and we're due a dry spell. Had a run out this afternoon. Sun now shining through the front window as it faces west.
We're thinking of doing a long walk tomorrow but with the safeguard of a short cut making it half the distance. Looks like decent weather for it.

When I had my orthotic inserts done by the specialists at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Hospital in Gobowen I had them within 2 hours. Just a long wait in the waiting room. This lot has taken 5 months to see someone within Betsi Cadwaladr's system (our North Wales Health Board) and will take at least 6 weeks to arrive. I foresaw this happening an had a private lot made but wanted to get into the system for future as well. You can never have enough good orthotic insoles for various shoes and slippers.

Thanks for the gen. The price is just a little bit out of our league, although I would have thought it would have brought more. The site's had EHU all the time we've visited, and it used to be £10 pn until a couple of years ago and then it went up to £12, with an apology for having to do it too.
Enjoy your walk up at the Falls. The last time we were up there the cafe had fallen into disrepair.

Glad you got there eventually
Hope the weather holds and you manage the longer walk. The area is popular with road cyclist, we saw Laura Kenny out on a training ride the first time we stayed there.1 -
Gillian B went to the Exploris Centre in Portaferry on Springwatch this evening. We have taken our 2 grandchildren in N Ireland on the ferry from Strangford to the Exploris Centre so many times. Such happy memories. Hopefully it wont be too long before we are back there. I read today that as we will be going from England directly to NI we wont need to take any tests. I hope that will still be the case in august.🤞
Glad you got the cooker repaired and got away om time WN..Hope you have a good time.

Another fine day. OH managed to get washing done this morning before we headed out for a walk from the site. Lots of birds singing in the greenery, especially Willow Warblers and Robins, spotted a Chiffchat and what I think was a Hobby. All washing dry by the time we got back 3 hrs or so later. Clear skies now so could be a cool night.

Magnificent days walking today. The weather was just about perfect. Neither too hot or sunny and virtually windless.
Drove the 15 miles to Upper Hulme, parked up and walked up Hen Cloud and then via a roundabout route up and onto the Roaches. Anyone who has stopped at either of the 2 main clubs sites at Blackshaw just outside Leek will have seen the skyline filled with these rocks. Covered about 8 miles with ups and downs and a bit of hair raising scrambling down the Roaches as I missed the turnoff. Oops. The Moors have stood up to recent rains quite well.
Can't remember the last time we enjoyed such a walk and to make it complete the Roaches Tea Room was open so we popped in there (outside seating but my, what views) for a cuppa and a lovely piece of cake, even for me.
Back home for a shower and a beer and a sit out in the sun. Actually feels like a holiday. Can't imagine having many better days but we'll try our very best.
Some photos, but the flatness of the countryside can't do the view justice so just a couple of Hen Cloud and a view through the rock formations. It's possible from there to see a long way into Cheshire, Staffordshire, Shropshire (the Wrekin is visible), Derbyshire and Greater Manchester.

We arrived here at this great little CL in Cumbria early afternoon after an easy 2 hour 20 tow from home roads surprisingly quiet and not many vans out although I suspect that won’t be the case tomorrow. Got set up quickly and the weather was lovely so we decided just to stay put for the afternoon cooked dinner on the Cadac and then sat out and had a few drinks it’s just got a bit chilly so we are back in the van now. Weather not looking great tomorrow so think we will head for a walk around Keswick.
Hope everyone else has a nice bank holiday weekend

We are due to set off 2 weeks today, looking forward to it, jealous of those already away!
SIL has time off school, tomorrow and Monday, forecast is reasonable so asked if they had plans. Seems they may do something on Monday, so we will be down there tomorrow then take Saturday/Sunday/Monday off, time to start cleaning the caravan and start loading up stuff.
Will be nice to have all that stuff out of the house, but will not be a quick job!
Today I was helping DD in their garden while OH took Nathan out in his pram. Callum was with Granny after nursery for a couple of hours, they had a great time in the park, watching the ducks and playing on the swings and climbing frame.
Nathan was not a happy baby today, he did sleep a bit, but DD reckons he is teething so he was very upset inbetween sleeping.
Apparently a few children at Callum's nursery have chicken pox so we need to be careful. I have had my shingles vaccination, OH thinks she has had hers, but I am not so sure. Hopefully we can find out tomorrow.

Last day of this trip and what a cracking day its been.
Its my birthday today and to celebrate it the sun has been out all day and still out now. Warm enough still for sitting out.
Took a drive to the Falls of Shin, we had 2 nice walks, lots of water coming down the falls after all the rain. Sadly the cafe wasn't open so no cuppa. There is however 4 EHU points and places for MHs to overnight, there is also fresh water and chemi emptying point. Strangely no signage to say if there is a charge or how you could pay.
This afternoon we cycled into Dornoch, then on to the beach. Wow what a huge beach it is. Lots of rocks and rock pools but also sand as far as the eye can see.
What a day to end this trip, back home tomorrow 😞 we've had a good time and found some smashing places that we will return to.
WN and Francis hope you both have a good trip away and of course anyone else who is out.

KjellNN. Contrary to what a lot of people believe you cannot contract shingles from someone who has chicken pox. It is in fact the other way round you can contract chicken pox from someone who has shingles. Adults who have shingles should definitely avoid anyone who is pregnant as it can cause problems with the unborn baby. If your OH is unsure whether she has had her shingles jab or not can I suggest that she rings your GP surgery and ask them to check her records
Happy birthday TG. It sounds as though you have had a really good day to celebrate.

A beautiful day here, although it has clouded up this evening. Drove down to Gilfach Nature Reserve, instead of going into the Elan Valley, and had a couple of good walks along by the river and through mixed woodland. Lots of birds about including Pied Flycatchers and a Dipper, also heard a Cuckoo there and back at the site.

Thanks Millie, I will get her to check with our GP tomorrow. The vaccination is offered to the over 70s, so as she is 72, she should have had it.
She reckons she has had it, it is me who is not so sure.......not that that is much to go on these days.....my memory leaves a lot to be desired!

Happy birthday TG, looks as if the weather God's were on your side today.
That sounds like a grand walk WN. Hope the rest of your trip is as good.
Enjoy your stay in the Lakes, Francis. Which CL are you using for this trip?

Had a couple of caravan days this week.
Yesterday the 'van went in for it's annual service. No damp 👍👍 They replaced a window seal, tightened catches in the rear washroom - we were getting a small leak. They found a nut that had cracked in the gas system and replaced it and told me I needed to replace the Alko stabilizer friction pads. I booked the caravan in to get the Alde fluid replaced in September and booked in next years service for the end of May 2022.
Today, I bought the pads and fitted them, and cleaned the front and back of the caravan, with Dry Sparkle.... The back and front always gets dirtier than the sides.
Soon I'm going to need to get new tyres - they are coming up to 5 years.... so that gone on my wish list....

Sounds like you are good to go David!
We were travelling behind a swaying caravan on the M5 yesterday, the neglected sort that makes you want to get round it quickly, owner driving too fast with a powerful car. Laden with holiday stuff.
We're on the Avon in Worcs now. The aptly named village of Wyre Piddle. Debating whether to leave tonight or early tomorrow to avoid the holiday traffic. But will attempt to enjoy a riverside pub lunch first.
Have been listening to a cuckoo across the water meadows.
Hope TG had a good birthday.
Enjoy your break Francis.
The heat seems to have been turned up here, we've had everything except snow on this trip!
