Our grand children came with us when younger. but not now ,just when we need them to help with water and waste, which in the past they used to "enjoy? "doing in exchange for the treat of staying with us, or was that not the right incentive

Yes indeed, David -- do you remember how worried folks were with such "Key Workers " having to travel across borders, large mileages etc, not being sure of the reception they might get. Seem to recall some were suggesting that they should get letters etc from the Constabulary to ease the passage. Green as grass some, and it's only just over a 12 month !! No names but

For a couple of years I used to take the Western Ferries route every day to go to work at Ardyne Point where several of the North Sea platforms were built. We lived on the hill directly above the ferry terminal on the west side of Gourock, fantastic views from up there.

Yes, it was Wolverley, I was a student in Worcs and enjoy going back there. The barge in the photo is an old one similar to the ones which used to be in OH's family. We had a long chat with the owner who was selling fuel to the barges and boats covering a big area of local canals familiar to OH.
Happy travels Part two, we have had a drama since arrival in Cumbria with the control panel, no 12v, contemplating life without a shower for two weeks!! 😡 Called engineer who has been inundated with similar calls. OH has just taken everything apart and we have lift off..I had just planned how to wash my hair with a bucket and jug....
Hope you are doing better than us Moulesy! 😊

brue, it can only get better from now 🤞. I am glad you got your 12v problem sorted and can now have a shower. I had to smile about the forgotten chargers. We had the opposite problem some years ago when in France. We had a frantic phone call from our daughter to ask if we had her phone charger ...... oh dear yes we had mistakenly packed it as a spare. We had to post it home pronto so we went off to the post office. You wouldnt believe the form filling and form stamping we had to go through! I hope the rest of your trip goes well
Moulesey how lovely to be back in Cornwall. Good idea to book your cottage for next year. We must get our act together before too long and make plans for next year.
It has been a grey, damp and chilly day here but we had a pleasant (if slightly expensive 😁) trip to our local garden centre as I decided as the frosts seem to be over 🤞 it was time to sort out my pots and hanging basket. I do the pots and OH does the heavy work! I hope the weather plays ball so I can get them planted up over weekend but having seen the forecast I am not terribly optimistic.

DD had a call on Wednesday from her OH's tenant with the bad news that there were several problems at the flat.....broken washing machine....dodgy fridge freezer......broken electric shower switch.......non filling toilet cistern. He is a considerate fellow and had not wanted to bother them in a pandemic, so had been saving up the problems but really needed a washing machine.
So I was dispatched yesterday to see what was needed, and 2 new appliances were ordered from John Lewis for delivery late afternoon today. And parts to repair the other, minor, problems.
Unfortunately the JL delivery van broke down so they were not sure they would be able to deliver today. I went down this afternoon to disconnect the appliances and we got them out onto the landing to be removed for recycling, then I came home.
Turned out later that they managed to deliver them around 7pm, so I am off back there tomorrow to install the WM, and hopefully fix the other items. That's a couple of hundred saved by SIL on a plumber, an electrician and the WM installation!

A day of 3 halves.

First half was a wash out as rain stopped play so we went to Waitrose in Menai for some vittels for the weekend, came home and had lunch. Second half was a trip to the west coast and South Stacks above Holyhead to look at the seabird colonies. As you can see from the photos there was a significant improvement in the weather. The seabirds including Puffins and some Choughs were as usual a delight for us.
Mrs WN in photo striking a typical pose of looking down on me.
Taken from the Lookout if anyone knows the area. Had a good long walk as well as birdwatching. There are some interesting Circular remains of huts and living accommodation up there going back a few thousand years. Third half was home for dinner and more rain.Well your trips have not been boring so far this year Brue but I bet you are looking forward to a boring one. Good luck.

Well yesterday was an interesting drive, lovely weather so views on the drive were stunning but parts of the drive were on single track roads which were busy so lots of stopping, pulling over into the bays.
We are on the C&CC site at Poolewe, smashing views over the sea loch. Site full yesterday but a few empty pitches today.
Weather dry with sunny spells but definitely not as warm as it should be. We did however manage to sit out for awhile this morning after we had done some washing and this afternoon when we returned from a cycle ride.
Last evening was lovely with a wonderful sunset, I'd forgotten how great the sunsets are over on the west coast.
Tomorrow looks to be a another dry day so think we will go across to Gairloch and explore around there.
Shopping up here is a bit different, only one shop and quite often not much choice if the delivery man is due. Bread was £1.79 and 4 pints of milk £1.75. When you are used to Aldi and Lidl prices it comes as a shock. 😁
Sunday we move on to Clachtoll, that should be another fun drive, especially the last 5 miles or so, maybe we should have brought the MH instead of the caravan😂😂😂
Have a good weekend folks.

The rain stopped overnight and it has been dry for most of the day, although we did have to get the brollies out for a short while. Change of plan as we decided to head across time Laugharne, where Dylan Thomas spent time. It is also the location for the filming of the TV series Keeping Faith.
We walked the Dylan Birthday walk before lunch, and got chatting to a couple who were doing the Welsh Coastal Path in stages, using 2 cars and walking about 10 mls a day from one to the other. Definitely a long term project, as it is 870 mls in total!!
In the afternoon we walked the other way, past the "garage" DT did his writing, and then the cottage he rented while staying in the town. Unfortunately the castle was closed, so had to give that a miss this time.0 -
We are off to Wolverley for three nights on Tuesday. Forecast is less than promising though. Could be some soggy canalside walks.

A lovely day here at Kyle of Lochalsh. Currently sat in the van in the Coop car park while the OH shops for weekend supply’s. Then it’s off to Kinlochewe for a couple of days. It will be the first transit day when it hasn’t been raining cats and dogs, so the drive should be pleasant. We did right getting here fairly early, there was plenty of room in the car park but now filling up fast. It won’t be long before I’m in the way.

I remember that Co-op, Steve. Have you nipped over the bridge to Skye?
Kinlochewe and the surrounding area is pretty spectacular too. We saw a pine marten in the village.

If you do get a good day, CY, it's well worth the short drive to Kinver Rock Houses which are interesting (but check opening times) and a short, not too difficult climb takes you up onto Kinver Edge where there is a wonderful viewpoint covering, from memory, 7 counties.

If you walk towards the village and up the path to the church and drop down the Rocky lane to the Queens Head pub, there is a nice sheltered woodland walk through their car park. It's a sort of mini Kinver type area which Moulesy has mentioned. There is a cafe next to the pub, we ate outside at the pub but the cafe looked more popular.
Yes it looked like a noisy weekend ahead ADP..

We had a lovely active day out with MH yesterday. I was dropped off on the Trans Pennine Trail and given instructions to “follow the signs”🤣 Lovely scenery, nice cycling surface and my first time through a long ex railway tunnel. Arrived at Dunford Bridge, needed to climb a (very, very) steep incline up to Winscar Reservoir. Level 5 on motor, little legs going like Wilma Flintstone, puffing like train, but I made it without getting off. Even managed to pass a couple of other cyclists pushing up. (Got a cheer for keeping going, did confess I had help😂)
Nice picnic spot up by Reservoir, some good bird life. After lunch OH disappeared on his bike towards Shelley, Denby Dale, Penistone, proper Yorkshire cycling territory. Weather was kind as well, dry if a tad cool. Pooch had a good day, he did part of TPT, then had a good snooze until teatime. We had a nice dinner as well after our day, all cooked in MH. Finally arrived home around 8.45pm. Another similar day planned for next week as well.😁

We are just cherry picking our days at the moment Brue, dodging the weather. We might stop out a night next week, if there’s a space on a CL somewhere. That moor behind the reservoir is Holme Moss/Woodhead, so we were surprised no rain. It can get very bleak up there at times. We have Peak District on our doorstep, so some great places to spend a day from home. I think OH has Monsal Dale and it’s tunnel planned for me soon. Hope your tour going well👍

We have used the cafe next the lock, they did a nice bacon sandwich if I recall!!! From the site you can also walk into Kidderminster along the canal. If its a nice day a pint in the pub garden, right alongside the lock is a nice way of passing the time. There is a back gate out of the site which exits very near the pub.

Not this time TW, we did when we were here a few years ago. Did a tour of the Talisker distillery and sampled some of their wares.😀 Found out why the Coop was quite first thing, didn’t realise you couldn’t buy alcohol until 10am. OH had to wait a full minute until the till would accept the purchase.😂
Lovely drive to Kinlochewe, although some of the roads are in a right state. It would be very easy to put a wheel in a sizeable hole when moving over to pass another wide vehicle. The only really good ones have signs saying part funded by the EU. The one from Achnasheen to Kinlochewe in particular, which as you say has some spectacular scenery.

It's a good spot for walking and eating!
A bit different in Keswick this year, very quiet, we walked round the market this morning, very few visitors except people from the caravan sites. Nice not to have a crush but it must be very hard for local traders. Going to do a few easy walks, the weather has been OK so far.

We were staying in Troutbeck last week brue. We did pass through Keswick last Sunday and it was so busy we didn’t stop as I didn’t fancy the crowds, perhaps it’s only busy weekends? Had an enjoyable if chilly week, a good day in Wastwater last Tuesday with a meal at Wasdale Head. Also enjoyed a meal at the Horse and Farrier in Threlkeld, (one of our favourites) although this time we had to do all the ordering from an App! It frustrated OH as he couldn’t understand the need for such complication when a real person taking the order would be so much simpler and quicker! I would have liked a dessert but we were throughly chilled after 45 minutes so decided against it. It was great to have a few non cooking days. Enjoy your stay.

Went out this afternoon to a nursery for some plants before they finish for the season as they are only open for 1 month for bedding plants it is nearly opposite the view of St. Cirq la Popie, we did notice on the way there that there were a few motorhomes parked in the Aire about 10 altogether and on the way back a new to us small Proxi supermarket with a lot of Carrefour items in there so maybe they have bought Proxi but a very good to have a supermarket just down from St Cirq also a small fuel station one lane wide enough for motorhomes and a car wash also 1 space with built in steps so you can wash your motorhome 1st time we have seen that. Only thing with touring around until next Wednesday there are no cafes restaurants or bars open plus a lot of shops in St Cirq are touristy shops and they are not open either and not the weather for walking around here today rain all night and today so some folks did not look if they were enjoying their time away, also saw 1 couple on road bikes with their panniers fully packed and they looked soaked to the skin not our idea of a holiday.

No, neither us, parts of France and parts of Italy are having decent weather at the moment. We are watching Giro D’Italia, and there have been some very wet days. Fingers crossed June is warmer and drier🤞

Another very pleasant and interesting few hours spent this afternoon matching up old photographs with their present day view. I do all the pre-work at home but it always takes a while to find the actual location on the ground.
This is just at the top end of Chester-le-Street and past what was South Pelaw junction. The bridge has been bricked up but the old abutments are still there. A Riddles 9F with a train from Consett to Tyne Cock in the mid 60s.

These were taken on top of the bridge in my pervious post. It was really very satisfying to find the same location but also to look for any reference point to link them all. In the first photo, again in the 1960s, if you look at the middle of the locomotive above the steam you'll see a post, this is there in the early 1970s next to a new signal and opposite them is the signal box.
In today's view you can spot a blue lorry on the bridge but (and this made me so very happy) while wandering along the path I found the old post still there and opposite I found the remains of the signal box. I was in absolute rapture as if I'd found some ancient monument. Yes I know - sad, but who cares it made my day

Another lovely day here, sun and blue skies, still a chilly wind if you are out of the sun.
SteveL, you are just down the road from us, we are at Poolewe, lovely area. Where are you heading next, we are going north to Clachtoll.
We had a good day out today, a drive down to Gairloch, then out the headland as far as the road goes.
Found a smashing campsite, not a white post to be seen anywhere. Lots of pitching areas, some on the cliff tops some down in sheltered glades. While some were among the dunes.
We asked if we could look around first of course. No problems there help yourself. Site goes right down to a beautiful sandy beach where some brave souls were in the sea kayaking and paddle boarding. One to note for the future.
After that drive we went back to Gairloch and had lunch, then went out in the opposite direction to Port Henderson and beyond. Most of it on single roads with passing places. Views were stunning, you can see over to Skye one way and South Lewis the other.
Stopped off on the way back and did a lovely walk to a waterfall. All in all lovely day out.
The site was almost empty this morning when we left, came back to an almost full site.

Rained nearly all night low cloud this morning , which had its upside as one of Duxfords? Spitfires under the cloud base heading that way

Speaking to a "New arrival neighbour who bought a new motor caravan with euro 6 engine as his OH is German and in laws live in one of the German cities that has very strict emissions rules (no name mentioned)and said he has found out that it is now euro 6e engines only, are exempt from the very expensive charges and it means a 230mile diversion to not having to pay it
