That’s interesting. Thanks.

I agree. That's pretty much what I was saying but it still renders those with the virus, despite having the vax, capable of passing it to others which is the danger, or are you saying that aspect is being re-assessed?

Hi Easy & TW, It strikes me that when discussing almost all Covid related questions Doctors will caveat their answers.
My understanding is that the vaccines being given seek to be 'effective', so prevent you developing serious symptoms, but are not 'sterilising' so preventing you catching the virus.
I was advised to assume nothing, in terms of any 'protection' given, by either having Covid or the vaccination.

I think the point in your second para is a given, A&J.
My point is that you can still contract and spread the virus, despite having the vax while Easy believes spreading it may not be the case.

To put my twopeneth in, my understanding is the the vaccine will reduce the amount of virus infection thereby reducing severity of the infection. This will also mean that you will still be able to spread the virus but at a reduced level compared to someone who is infected but not had the vaccine.

My previous post seems to have disappeared so I will repeat it with a little extra.
The only assurance the scientists and doctors are giving is that in most cases if you have had the vaccine and do catch the virus you are less likely to get seriously ill, although that is not guaranteed.
Having had the vaccine does not that guarantee that you have not got Covid.
It is not a guarantee that you will not catch the virus, and
It is not a guarantee that you will not spread it if you do get infected.
Bearing in mind that the primary objective of the virus is to replicate, the later mutations seem to be residing more heavily in the upper respiratory tract of those infected making it much easier for the virus to be spread by aerosol (coughs and sneezes spread diseases).
One thing we have yet to see is the SARS-CoV-2 virus becoming less dangerous. It can't replicate if it kills its hosts so it may yet become more able to easily spread but less of a killer. Sneaky!

My understanding s that you can spread it before you are aware of having contacted it

My understanding is the same-that you can have it and can spread it.
It is thought that the vaccines effect may mean that, as you do not have such a severe case as you may have had without the vaccine, your viral load is less and you may be less likely to transmit to others.

Have logged on to the wrong thread here?
I remembered that I had an unopened jar of mincemeat in the cupboard left over from Christmas so have made some mincepies. A little out of season but I have lost track of the days anyway 😅

I know I've still got a jar in the cupboard as well. You've prompted me to get the oven on!

crikey you were quick off the mark, thought you might have still been having your siesta
, love mince pies, but into hot cross buns just now, still looking longingly at an untouched Christmas cake, OH made 2, one without nuts for our daughter who lives in Spain who has a nut allergy, and should have been with us for Christmas, but covid put paid to that, still got plans for maybe visiting Spain later so as it has been soaked in alchol it should be ok for a wee while, just hope that is not on the prohibited list
Snow stopped now, window cleaner just been, he must be freezing, gave him coffee and the biscuit barrel

Thanks AD👍 There have been quite a few instances around the World of various animals having contracted Covid. Canine Kennel Cough is a very infectious virus itself, so no great surprise dogs can get something similar. Like the Covid in humans, it affects each dog differently. Years ago we started walking in local woodlands with our then young Choccy Lab, and our elderly Airedale bitch. Within days of using this walk, he picked up a really bad case of KC, was really poorly, despite having his boosters. Of course we were really concerned the older dog would really suffer, and it’s so infectious, there was no way we could resolve the transmission between them. She did get it, but it was hardly noticeable, surprised us no end. We had never had a dog get KC before. Vet said there was a cluster of cases in area where we were walking, just our luck☹️ Both fully recovered though.

A interesting and fruitful day in Durham. Weather wise it was just amazing, here roads clear, two miles in Chester-le-street at the A1M, heavy snow and roads covered, then sunshine in Durham that lasted till about 2pm then heavy snow again! Very cold though.
