What are you all up to

Brian - the trouble is there ain't a pool of willing individuals out there prepared to take on the job, so who replaces them? I'm not sure what the true situation is anyway; I know that at Dad's care home every single one of the staff, including the handyman, gardener and receptionists had their jab the same week as the residents.
Mind you, I'm also not sure why anyone in their right mind should refuse the jab in the first place (medical/allergy reasons accepted.)

NO!!

I am suprised that you were given the Oxford version, does Sturgeon know?

Yes, probably much the same reasoning the government is using in refusing to consider vaccine passports because they would be "discriminatory". Well, er, yes, they'd discriminate between those who have had the jab and those who haven't!

But I think another U turn might be in the pipeline!

I was lucky enough to be able to travel extensively throughout my career and always tucked into my passport would be a certified list, in booklet form, of the vaccinations I had had. It is still up to date with the exception of Covid 19 but I hope to get that rectified with jab 2.
Of course having had the vaccine is no guarantee that you will not catch Covid nor a guarantee that you will not spread it.

That's a good point actually. We both have travel health passports from our travel clinic recording details of the vaccinations we've had over the past few years for typhoid, hepatitis etc. We will take them with us when we eventually get round to being jabbed and ask if it can be added. At least we can keep our covid record cards with them.

Whilst as cautious as the next person in guessing at HMGs reasoning I would think it’s their view that it would discriminate against those who cannot, or are advised not to, have the vaccination.
I have heard some reports that being vaccinated lowers the transmission rate but even when vaccinated you can ‘have’ Covid and pass it on.
Maybe HMG sees a danger in people rushing to travel and mingle?

I imagine that we will get them signed up but I'm not sure what would be the purpose of a travel passport. The vaccine only provides some assurance that the recipient is less likely to get serious ill if they catch the virus - nothing more.

One of the problems with vaccination passports is that they were no guarantee of an individual even having a vaccination, as you can obtain them and negative Covid test results, from countries that are already issuing them, for a price through the internet. I think the only way to be sure is to have your doctor certify that you've had one actually on your passport, and not as a separate document.

Greece has already announced that they will allow those who have had the vaccine in when they open for business in the Spring.
I saw the interview this morning where it was said that the UK is not going to issue vaccine passports, when asked what about the countries that ask for them the reply was, that's up to them. Not very helpful if you want to visit that country. As to being discriminated, it was the fact that some folk won't get both vaccines until the end of summer so they would be disadvantaged.
The travel industry is calling out for them and many other countries are going down that route. I agree with M it will be another about turn, I cant see they will have any choice if they are asked for by operator's and destination.

Of course but according to the vaccine minister its ok as your GP will have all your details. I can just see the GPs loving the thousands of requests for a proof of vaccine letter.
By the time we have paid for tests in and out the country, quarantine hotel bills and paying for letters from our Dr the travel industry will be gone. Its on its knees now, how they are going to survive all this is anyone's guess.

but which passport in my case? And will the EU/Italy accept my 'certificate' from the UK? There are also no plans, though pressure yet for Italy having such certificates. Interesting times

I know the having vaccine counts as what have you done today but this thread appears to have become a discussion (which I've added to and found interesting) about travelling outside the UK, and/or should people have the vaccine? I've had to go back a number of pages to find what people have been doing today.
This is not a moan or anything like that or trying to change anything, just an observation.

Good to know what you've been up to David.
I've been reading CT and watching telly, also been dreaming of sailing through EU passport control waving to you lot in the queue

Sorry my quote of yours appeared after your edit. hope it still makes sense

I’m thinking for the future it will be an annual fundraiser for some individual/company/Dept as it’s said the vax will be like the flu jab for at least a few years until it can be understood better. It could be-no pay no play re vax proof🤷🏻♂️

Given that everybody is given a card with their jab details on it, ISTM that it would take little effort to make it a 'travel document', saving a lot of subsequent admin but when have governments ever done anything simple and sensible?
